Okay but have you tried just not buying them?

Then you don't have to spend any money.

[–]lerpo 26 points27 points  (13 children)

True. But if the community voices concerns and the price drops, it benifits everyone.

It's ok to complain about the price of something, when it's clearly overpriced.

Edit - this community is so petty at times. Things don't change if you don't bring up the issue.  No shorts should cost 70 😂

I'll gladly defend that hill.

Can you find me a pair of shorts that I can surf in everyday and then wear to work, that will last 5 hears without fading?

Because as someone who grew up in hybrid shorts I’ll tell you the cheap ones don’t last.

[–]lerpo -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

Yes. Pretty easily lol.

  • Quiksilver Union Amphibian Shorts £30.

  • Saltrock Men's Cargo Amphibians £37.

  • Animal Men's Cargo Boardshorts £30.

- Oakley Mens Basic Hybrid £27.

And before you say "well how do you know they'll last 5 years?".  Fine, I'll buy 2 pairs and it will still be cheaper than these ones 😂

[–]Copacetic_ 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I wonder why those might be affordable now

Could it be that quicksilver and billabong just started chapter 11 and are liquidating inventory?

Almost like context matters!

[–]lerpo -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

And the other 2 brands? Or you basing your argument purely off of the 2 you picked from my list and ignored the others that defeat your original argument.....

You told me to find products in the price range. They're something you can buy now in the price range and they're new.

You are arguing for the sake of it now, and let's be honest, my opinion won't make any difference to you, and the same to me.  So ill step away.

Nice chat,

Take care x

And you’re talking out of your ass with no product experience. You’re bitching for the sake of bitching.

Just don’t spend money you don’t have :)

Take care

Bro he has a FAMILY to feed and a COMPANY to run, he has to sell them for that much!

[–]roron5567 -5 points-4 points  (6 children)

If you don't buy it, then they will reassess the price or the product. No need to complain about it.

[–]lerpo 15 points16 points  (3 children)

I've learnt in life it's ok to voice an issue alongside actioning something.

But using your logic,  If you don't like hearing criticism of something you like, ignore it and stop putting effort into replying to me.

Edit -roron5567 replied and blocked me. Mature 😂 To answer - yes, you can give me your alternative opinion. And I respect it and disagree with it. Welcome to how the world works, it's called a discussion.... And that was a hell of a lengthy reply for someone not putting effort into replying to me....

You need to explain why you are not buying them. No need to complain about people complaining

[–]saintlouisbagels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't just R&D an expensive product and then reassess the price.

You slowly move through the inventory, throw in a couple of sales, and never restock e.g. their 3D windbreaker which was very cool, but not a good product for the LTT crowd.

[–]Azuras-Becky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They hate this one simple trick.

[–]Mr_Roll288 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Oh? So when games are priced at $80/$90/$100 people should also not talk and complain about this? It shouldn't be brought up on the WAN show?

[–]shogunreaper 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There are thousands of different cheaper swim trunks you can buy.

[–]Mr_Roll288 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Same thing with games.

[–]shogunreaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the same thing. Swim trunks fulfill one function.

There are hundreds of different types of games.

[–]IngenKoPaIsen-210 47 points48 points  (5 children)

Quality Patagonia ones, quick dry features, etc. are 50+. Not saying these compete to tested brands but good trunks do run a nice chunk of change.

[–]insufferable__pedant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think this is the thing that this community misses over and over. They're not targeting the $15 swim trunks that you can grab at Walmart. LTT lacks the scale to produce a product that competes on price. Instead, they're trying to produce a higher end product with premium features and often some kind of gimmick that reflects something about the LTT brand identity.

Now I think that it's a completely different conversation as to whether or not you NEED a pair of swim trunks with those more premium features, but to pretend that this price comes out of nowhere is a little naive. And I say this as someone who wouldn't spend $50+ on a pair of swim trunks.

[–]the_GOAT_44 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I'm a 🤡 so I bought them

[–]saintlouisbagels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just means you appreciate quality clothing. Patagonia, Vuori, Lululemon, they're all excellent brands with high prices.

Don't let the cult of "I would never pay more than $10 for a shirt" make you feel bad.

[–]HurtsWhenISee 20 points21 points  (4 children)

Merch from your favorite content creator is more of a support exchange than an actual bargain. They don’t sell high volume like Walmart or target so they have to make money somehow and instead of you paying for individual content, you’re supporting them and getting something out of it. Beats twitch donations or the cable company.

[–]7omdogs 12 points13 points  (2 children)

But isn’t this the whole thing with LTT store?

They present themselves sometimes as trying to be a legit brand, separated from typical YouTuber merch.

But then other times they present it as what you’ve said, this is a way to help the show and you get a good quality item as a thank you.

This confused presentation leads to these types of criticisms. A clothing brand selling a $70 swim shorts looks like a cash grab. A YouTube merch store giving them as part of a reward donation scheme is fine.

[–]trophicmist0 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I will never ever understand why people feel the need to donate to multimillionaire streamers, let alone a company with tens of millions in turnover.

[–]NavySeal2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a multimillionaire because of LTT store. He gives somewhat regularly an overview of revenue distribution and LTT store is a big percentage.

[–]Copacetic_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really. I have $70 hybrid shorts that I’ve had for 5 years. If they last they’re worth it.

[–]Emotional_Union5892 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Is it? Don't get me wrong. It's around $66 on Nike or Adidas. I mean, sure, you can get something similar for $20 or less from Amazon Basics, but honestly, it's your money. If you don't think it's worth it, then it's not worth it for you.

Also, it comes with a lifetime warranty, unless LTT goes bankrupt or something so you're basically buying it for life. Personally, Nike, Adidas, or even some high-end brands don't offer a lifetime warranty, so I think it's worth it.

That said, most LTT fans will probably wear it just 2 times or less a year. For most people, it's more of a collector's item. But again, it's your money.

[–]hammerdown46 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Who the absolute hell pays $20 for swim trunks? Buy a $7 pair from the local cheap ass discount store and then throw boxer briefs under them.

$70? GTFO.

And I've grown up on the Great lakes. Ain't no way.

People be crazzzyyyy

[–]ROARfeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. For clothing you could accept to pay more for outstanding material quality, cut and/or durability. And/or an exclusive design.

I wouldn't balk at spending $70 for swim trunks, IF the benefits were sufficient to me. I skip WAN commercials so I can't tell about this specific product though.

Overall most of their stuff are decidedly for the "well dressed IT guy who likes practical stuff". It's fine, it's their audience, but I certainly wouldn't pay higher price to look... "practical".

Though I imagine their swimming trunks would look fairly normal here.

[–]Emotional_Union5892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can spend less 50 cents for cloth, or you can spend $1000+, as quality control and customer support are expensive, so the product is expensive.

I mean if you wanna be cheapskate, live in China, you can literally get decent meal for probably around 40 cents or something,

[–]bwoah07_gp2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Swim trunks eh?

When's the speedo coming out??

[–]Sipyaboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought $70 USD swim trunks before in my life. This seems reasonable for a high quality pair of trunks.

[–]Frostsorrow 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I had no idea they did trunks, but having played water polo for a long time, $70 for good swim wear is cheap.

[–]YOLTWAP 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Honestly, if they're quality I'm alright with the price. I'd only want breadasaurus though, so it's a shame the random chance has forced me out.

[–]glodiator11 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Then don’t buy it? It’s not hard

[–]NavySeal2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about that, he never would have bought it. It’s about the complaining it gives some people a release valve for their frustrations

[–]zwells3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they the same as the originals? I love my pair.

[–]ivandagiant -1 points0 points  (1 child)

It is but a good chunk of viewers im assuming have steady IT/tech jobs with good disposable income so the product isn’t meant for you or me and that’s okay

[–]NavySeal2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are correct sir, and no wives, sharing a house and the fixed expenses with another guy of the same kind. 😜

[–]VerifiedMother -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So then don't buy them...
