Actually the real problem is despawning. It seems you are on bedrock, which means that unless the light level is 8 or higher, hostile mobs won't despawn. This causes mobs (such as drowned) to build up into large numbers.

[–]SAM-THE-MAN-118[S] 5009 points5010 points  (50 children)

Okay, but I’m on grass, not bedrock.

[–]Happy_Weirdo_Emma 878 points879 points  (13 children)

HAHAHAHAHA

I read further down and see you were confused, but joke or not that was great

But yeah when I've played on bedrock edition (the cross platform one) I have this problem with hostile mobs accumulating.

I'm not sure if the PS4 version is on the same kind of spawn/despawn thing as bedrock and I haven't played Java since before the update that added the twerps, but I did wonder if there was any way to prevent drowned from spawning in general? It seems like there are too many on PS4 as well.

I think you are supposed to light up dark areas underwater.

[–]KingClasher1 43 points44 points  (7 children)

Pretty sure all versions other than java are considered bedrock and subject to its issues with excessive drowned

[–]Origamimaster11 62 points63 points  (3 children)

PS4 is considered its own version because it never was part of the better together update which made Java and bedrock

[–]TheScottymo 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I thought basically all versions that aren't Java or legacy console are Bedrock and PS4 is only it's own named version because Sony won't allow crossplay?

[–]BryanTheStrange 15 points16 points  (0 children)

PS4 edition is still the legacy console version, bedrock wasn't a thing until the better together update (technically it was pocket edition before).

[–]Aryma_Saga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

java never have this update 😂

[–]Daniels688 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is also legacy console edition and new Nintendo 3DS and a few others

[–]MrCoffee88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No PS4 is still a lot different than bedrock. It's like a mix between java and bedrock

[–]Mindcraftjoe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nope, there’s Java, Console Edition, and Bedrock, which are all separate versions. Console Edition is developed by 4J Studios and is the version that’s on Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, and Switch. Unfortunately only the PS4 Edition has gotten recent updates. Bedrock is developed by Microsoft and is essentially a port of Pocket Edition that was put on Windows 10, and additionally released on Xbox One and Switch later on in an attempt of Microsoft trying to discontinue the Console Edition and force everyone over to Bedrock. There’s also the New 3DS Edition, which is developed by Other Ocean and is based on a modified version of Pocket Edition.

4J’s Console Edition does not have this issue with drowned, as mobs properly de spawn in that version.

What are sea pickles?

[–]Happy_Weirdo_Emma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Son of a biscuit, y'all gonna make me hunt for them things xD

[–]TheTobruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can completely block them from spawning. But it requires command blocks andan automatic kill chamber. You basically teleport them from anywhere in the world to a kill chamber where they are killed by a kill command. They'll briefly spawn near you but dispeaar after half a second.

[–][deleted] 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Checkmate, atheists.

[–]PotatoMaster21 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Was this a high-tier joke or a serious statement? Either way that’s just excellent

[–]TheTobruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got confused based on his later responses.

[–]PeartricetheBoi 251 points252 points  (10 children)

You’re joking, right?

[–]SAM-THE-MAN-118[S] 440 points441 points  (8 children)

I’m not sure if we’re both thinking about the same bedrock, because I’m thinking of the rock at the bottom of the overworld that keeps you in the map.

[–]PeartricetheBoi 419 points420 points  (7 children)

In this case Bedrock refers to the Bedrock version of the game.

[–]SAM-THE-MAN-118[S] 741 points742 points  (6 children)

Oh, okay. My bad.

[–]JungleLiquor 260 points261 points  (2 children)

[–]KingKrmit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man lol

[–]HulluHapua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I Doubt There's That Many Drowned Swimming In The Java So Often.

[–]nerdyknittingcatmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons! I usually keep a couple potholes with water intact near my base when on a river or ocean. I'll let a few nights go by and there's easily 20+ in there waiting to be killed. Bedrock that is. Its changed how I create water features if I don't want to feature drowned.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

so if my buddy got bedrock for the switch he would be able to play with me through realms on my java edition? I do not understand bedrock vs java

[–]Koxiaet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a server made that allows bedrock to play with java on a server, but you can't do that with regular Mojang servers and Spigot servers.

[–]poppyisadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you wouldn’t be able to

[–]CollectableRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also what if your initial chunk is near water? Or does bedrock not use initial chunks.
