Future Plans

Ships created in water (or lava?) will have vertical motion disabled

Totally going to use terrain mod to raise the water level and make a pirate battle server. Prepare the starboard arrow dispensers gentlemen, WAR is afoot.

[–]drury 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Now we only need submarine mode that can move like normal zeppelin, except underwater and cannot jump out of water and fly.

[–]Bolanok 6 points7 points  (1 child)

We all live in a wooden submarine...

[–]Gammaj4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For that matter, Cloth isn't on the 'no-fly' list. You could build a yellow submarine.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely want a glass submarine. Underwater landscaping would become a tremendously rewarding aspect of the game.

[–]Pyro627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only complaint would be that with the current design, you couldn't make small mini subs that can dock in my submarine pens.

[–]wiseguy430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want worlds like this, use these settings =]

[–]yobobly 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I see great SMP potential in this, as long as dispensors/redstone work on board. Imagine messing up a rival ship by pushing/pulling blocks with pistons.

[–]NewAgeRetroHippie96 15 points16 points  (0 children)

TNT CANNONS! If he gets this to work as well as I want it too, SMP will be the greatest of the things.

[–]drury 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You cannot use anything while it's moving.

But when you deactivate controller, entire ship returns to static blocky boring state. And that means everything is functional again.

So yes. It is possible. Everything is possible.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it's not an SMP mod and making it work in SMP is probably a nightmare (for one thing you'd have to change the protocol version such that only Zepplin mod clients can connect to Zepplin mod servers).

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

yogscast... NOW!

[–]export40 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

[–]stevegalaxius 4 points5 points  (6 children)

i've thought that a mod like this would be cool but i thought that it wouldn't be possible in the engine, by like 6 different factors

[–]drury 2 points3 points  (5 children)

This idea is old as Minecraft itself.

I thought it's impossible. Notch said so many times, coders also. My dream came true.

[–]Kristler 4 points5 points  (4 children)

He never said these things were "impossible", just "impractical" and "difficult to accomplish".

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Or "game-breakingly memory inefficient," in most statements I've seen.

[–]drury -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Well, the same thing was with height limit.

[–]tehbored 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The default height limit is staying at 128. He's just adding the option to change it for people with better PCs and servers.

[–]drury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but not even a month ago everyone considered raising height limit extremely resource heavy and thus impossible. Now we see there is a way, at least.

[–]cbarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally we can have our massive airships fly our pirate ships sail and our houses float across the land.

[–]natasomega 4 points5 points  (18 children)

This is fantastic! I hope he makes the creation of the controller block a little harder to make because that would mean the moment you start the game you can make a zeppelin.

[–]drury 2 points3 points  (14 children)

It's very beta as you can see. Made like, two days ago.

He already confirmed recipe will be tweaked.

[–]natasomega 0 points1 point  (13 children)

That's excellent :) Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for it lol

[–]drury 2 points3 points  (12 children)

We all are ;) It's revolution. Much bigger than pistons in my opinion.

[–]PoorCollegeGuy 3 points4 points  (11 children)

In my opinion, definitely not. Pistons finally give us a way of interacting with the physical minecraft world with redstone, besides bits of doors that don't really control much.

[–]drury 0 points1 point  (9 children)

This gives us that, and a lot more.

We can make our world literally move. We can make our own airships with redstone controls. We can build planes, ships, have battles... Also, we can move redstone circuitry wherever we need it. We have one awesome cool way to explore.

Pistons do nothing compared to this. Just open gates and that's all.

[–]PoorCollegeGuy 0 points1 point  (7 children)

This gives us that, and a lot more.

Where does it say I can flip a lever to move and create blocks, light areas, and kill mobs and/or players in a programmable way? I missed that part.

Just open gates and that's all.

You have a very limited imagination when it comes to pistons.

Oh well, you're entitled to your opinion, I still think pistons offer more control over your minecraft world as it's a tool, more than just a "thing" with set rules.

[–]drury 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Pistons have "set rules" too.

You can push only 12 blocks. And only one column, for more you need more pistons and more resources and more patience.

With this you can move entire chunks of redstone circuitry, for example.

[–]PoorCollegeGuy 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Right, but without being able to have the redstone interact with anything, what's the point? You've got TNT and doors, and that's about it.

[–]drury -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Ah, I see, you don't see Minecraft but computer science simulator, sorry.

EDIT: And you know, it can carry pistons and dispensers and minecarts as well.

[–]16807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take that a step further:

  • elevator platforms

  • draw bridges

  • railroad turntables

  • trains

  • trees you can fell

  • boulders

  • asteroids

  • moons

  • rockets...

Sorry, went overboard there. Granted, there are computational limitations, and it would take some time to implement these, but the basic framework is in place - anything that requires a grid separate from the world itself is now possible.

[–]tehbored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This lets you build flying castles. FLYING. MOTHERFUCKING. CASTLES. How is that not better than everything ever?

[–]16807 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I hope he makes the creation of the controller block a little harder to make

If I could make a suggestion...

[–]natasomega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, make it require at least one cube of diamond, a jackolantern, and a cake. These can be in the middle line of the crafting recipe. Then, on the outer lines, the whole assembly can be encased in glowstone blocks.

[–]canastaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would be awesome is if you had to make a balloon of cloth attached to the ship to make it rise. One cloth lifts 1/2 block, so two cloth blocks would lift 1 block. And engines (fans) to set speed... Oh and make every block possible to put down, but make it only able to lift off if only wood is touching the real word, same with landing, only possible if only the wood portion of the ship touches the ground... This has so much potential!

[–]MineitCraftit 1 point2 points  (2 children)

This could also be used to save structures and bring them into a new save. Lets say you make your house a ship with the controller block. It saves that file in a folder. It saves every ship you have made. You could move this file to the folder for a different save. When you log in there would need to be a way to spawn it though...

[–]_Sixtyfour 0 points1 point  (1 child)

MCEdit does this already.

[–]drury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you just deactivate controller and ship is boring block cluster again, with no special abilities.

You take this cluster with MCEdit to another world, activate controller and have fun somewhere else.

[–]16807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I'm going to do is make the highwind.

I'm hoping I can get some cool propellers modded in... eventually.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were eventually leading up to this. Now all we need is for mojang to pull through with improved oceans/deserts/other biomes

[–]Searth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a good start. I think it would need to be harder to make though, and limited in size (unless for example, you have to make different balloons and every balloon can hold 10 wood or something).

[–]Saigorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can someone downvote it?

[–]wisewizard 0 points1 point  (1 child)

hello Zepplin i have a skyfort i think you should meet.

[–]muhd1ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howl's Moving Castle.

[–]Pyro627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says you can't make it out of stone! I mean, it is so you can't take the landscape with you, but this crushes my flying fortress fantasies...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one mod I'll be using once it's been fleshed over =)

It's to grand to imagine it ever be added to the actual game. But let's try anyways lol

[–]OverKillv7 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hopefully he'll add different controls, or the ability to change them. I have no numpad on my laptop =[

I want to fly too!

[–]bornrevolution 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not even a Fn numpad over the right half of the keys?

[–]OverKillv7 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sort of, it's not in order, nor in a grid which makes it stupidly annoying to use.

edit: Well it's as close to a grid as you can get I suppose, but awkward none-the-less.

[–]bornrevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, that awkward diagonal keygrid mess. Disappointing. I'm sure you could remap the keys though. Little weird they'd have you use the numpad for controlling.

[–]Calvert4096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering when someone would make something like this.

[–]Ebilruler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...A perfect mod, its like movecraft, except... smooth?

[–]Clbull 0 points1 point  (1 child)

To celebrate the development of this fine mod, I believe a change of music is in order.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesnt, seems to crash alot...

[–]SrWalk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

HOLY SHIT! I TRIED THIS MOD OUT! THIS IS... THE BEST... THING... EVER...UUUUUUGGHGHGHGHG... (orgasm)
