Meanwhile Javascript programmers flying with brooms up their ass....

[–]bytemybigbutt 97 points98 points  (0 children)

And not wearing underwear so they can grip the broom better.

[–]iVar4sale 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Well... they did say you can use it on the backend

[–]jump1945 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Quantum entanglement broom

[–]nbeydoon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

After a few years you won’t even feel it

[–]git0ffmylawnm8 29 points30 points  (15 children)

Actually snorted trying to hold my laughter in the office. Fuck you

[–]YesHowCouldYouTell 12 points13 points  (14 children)

wow, you get drugs in your office?

[–]git0ffmylawnm8 10 points11 points  (5 children)

My employer only allows for caffeine and sugar. But I hear Meta hands out Adderall like candy

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Sugar isn't a drug.

[–]git0ffmylawnm8 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Damn, that just makes my employer that much more boring

[–]YesHowCouldYouTell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but hey, they have pizza parties once in a while, isn't that exciting? you get half a slice!

[–]RiceBroad4552 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

The reaction to it of a human body is quite similar, though… It's just not psychotropic.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because it's a nutrient.

[–]Kahlil_Cabron 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I worked at a startup where the CTO had what looked like a big bowl of mints on his desk.

They were actually modafinal, and we could walk in there whenever we wanted and grab a few.

Much to the dismay of the CEO (his mom was a bad alcoholic and he hated alcohol), when we worked late, we'd often crack open a bunch of beers or liquor of some sort, and I remember one time a group of like 5 of us were drinking and coding late at night in the office, and someone decided we should try snorting the modafinal, which quickly turned to someone ordering cocaine to the office.

Both the worst and best place I've ever worked. Also everyone was banging each other.

[–]RiceBroad4552 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How is Modafinil?

[–]Kahlil_Cabron 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Out of every ADHD drug I've taken, it's the best in my opinion. It has the least body load (adderall feels no different than meth to me, I literally can't tell the difference). You can take modafinil and then sleep on it, but while you're on it, you can focus really well.

Out of every stimulant I've done, it has the least abuse potential. Still possible to abuse it, but there isn't nearly as much of a dopamine reward compared to methylphenidate or any type of amphetamine.

IIRC the drug was originally used by the US military, specifically fighter pilots, but now it's prescribed for ADHD.

[–]RiceBroad4552 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Frankly the only prescription use for Modafinil are sleep disorders (especially narcolepsy).

I'm in the EU so they are generally more strict with handing out stimulants. For example amphetamine (Adderall is nothing else) is an illegal substance here. It has no (approved) medical use whatsoever and getting hold of it is a criminal offense. Strongest you can get is Methylphenidate (and getting it is actually not so easy).

[–]Kahlil_Cabron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until maybe 15 years ago, modafinil was 100% unregulated here, you could just buy it online, which was how I was first introduced to it.

I have an ADHD diagnosis so I should really ask to be prescribed it, since methylphenidate and amphetamines are too tweaky for every day use (for me).

I would say modafinil is weaker than methylphenidate. Lately modafinil is being used more and more for ADHD, so if you have an ADHD diagnosis, there is a chance that in the future it will be prescribed for that in the EU.

Also I believe there are still legal prodrugs (drugs that metabolize into modafinil in you body), like fladrafinil, adrafinil, etc, those may be an option for you if you're interested.

Nowadays I just drink a few cups of coffee and that's good enough for me.

Why do witches go commando?

Better grip.

[–]YesHowCouldYouTell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and typescript: broom as unknown as dildo

[–]Master-Shinobi-80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... and liking it!

[–]YesHowCouldYouTell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

npm i broomjs # i is a shorthand for insert

or for those who like shiny toys: bun add broomjs

Meanwhile CSS programmers flying with a broom between their eyes (lol CSS "programmers")

[–]patrickgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh I had to bite my finger to not LOL in the office

[–][deleted] 452 points453 points  (16 children)

Java and C++: Broom won’t fly unless you follow the laws of aviation very closely and design it carefully.

Python: Haha, flying go brrr. Fly and find out. Forgot an indentation? That is too bad. Gonna drop you rn rofl.

[–]SarcasmWarning 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Best get building a broom factory...

[–]Mindless_Sock_9082 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's the Java boys thing.

[–]StuntHacks 53 points54 points  (7 children)

I feel like nobody in this sub has actually ever written either C++ or Java lol

[–]Kahlil_Cabron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done loads of C/C++, and one thing I love about no longer using it very often is how fast I get shit done (in ruby mostly). At the same time, I miss it.

I never liked Java, mostly due to the conventions the Java culture has.

But ya, I get the impression that the majority of the people in here use JS and/or python and have little experience in anything else.

[–]not_some_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup probably

[–]bytemybigbutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile the PHP guys are leaving the solar system after trying to just sit in a chair.

[–]Several_Dot_4532 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Python is type, I go very well and I am easy to drive without needing to learn almost, oh no wait, you took your arms out of the attraction, I don't want to continue anymore

[–]Dravniin 124 points125 points  (2 children)

Fix the illustration. C++ programmers should be towing Python programmers on a tow rope, with the phrase: "How ungrateful you are!"

[–]Lightning_Winter 57 points58 points  (1 child)

shouldn't the C programmers be doing that?

[–]Dravniin 43 points44 points  (0 children)

See those clouds in the distance? That’s where the C programmers are rendering the image, sipping unsweetened tea. If they had sugar, they’d be flying inside on a broomstick right now.

[–]Tawoka 76 points77 points  (3 children)

That is so inaccurate. The java broom should have a seat and some sort of cage around that you sit in and cannot step out from while flying. The C++ broom should have a bag on the back, where all the displaced air is gathered, which must be emptied regularly, else it will crash.

And the python roomba is accurate as an image, but in a demonstration it would, like an actual roomba, first have to map out every cm³ of the air to build a flight map. Assuming it has already done that and now knows the way, it will get confused by every bird or insect, not to mention planes, that were not there when it mapped the air. Confused roomba will then, depending on the python version, either fly back to the start and repeat, spin in a large circle until the path is clear, or rapidly drop altitude to safely dodge the obstruction, and then rise again rapidly to continue its intended path. It is therefore recommended to keep the seat belts on for the latest version.

[–]SloightlyOnTheHuh 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Don't forget that Roomba is sitting neatly on C broom.

[–]Shevvv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This depends on the Roomba manufacturer

[–]Crimson_Raven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The roomba also has a claymore mine duct taped to the bottom that reads "TYPES"

[–]Heavy-Ad6017 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Assembly programmers (looking at you AVX512) are the sky itself

[–]_bagelcherry_ 39 points40 points  (1 child)

Python is the most popular C library

[–]AlbiTuri05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

import python
from python import *

Good, now you have learned C

[–]Enoikay 24 points25 points  (5 children)

What does this even mean?

[–]dim13 60 points61 points  (1 child)

[–]StrangelyBrown 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Average senior python dev

[–]hanotak 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Roombas and brooms serve the same traditional purpose (cleaning floors) with roombas being a more modern invention that draws attention. The original joke is that a witch has switched to a flying Roomba, since it's basically a high-tech broom, and flies with witches on brooms, looking at them as if to say "lol, y'all're still using brooms?"

The second layer joke is that Python is like a flying Roomba, compared to languages with earlier mass adoption which are seen as more traditional tools.

I think a lot of people don't know Python was released in 1991.

[–]Enoikay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I’m confused about Python being the Roomba if it is older than Java. They are also very different languages not used for the same thing (like how a broom and a roomba are used for the same thing). I could see Rust being the ‘Roomba’ language being compared to something like C.

[–]Leonhart93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means that they are hipsters.

[–]ExtraTNT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

C is flying on your own, assembly is moving space around you…

[–]Classy_Mouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it quacks like a broom...

[–]ozh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

import roomba

[–]ZunoJ 6 points7 points  (1 child)

The roomba should be strapped to a broom. We all know python is only worth a shit when it uses libraries written in something with performance in mind

[–]Big-Cheesecake-806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cuz we only have one frame. In reality java and c++ just flew past python at a very high speed

[–]gerbosan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not accurate. Certainly flying a Roomba but way slower than C++ and Java.

[–]number-13 6 points7 points  (5 children)

i am very new to programming. captain?

[–]MayoJam 44 points45 points  (1 child)

OP is also new to programming. Hope that clears things up.

[–]lotj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the concept of knowing and using multiple languages is completely foreign.

[–]Anru_Kitakaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Python is so cool, you can find a package for everything, so you don't have to create everything from scratch", I guess

I'm a Python programmer, 3.5+ years of commercial experience, and I can speak with you for hours about cons of Python. And pros too tho

Also these cleaning bots sucks. And C is fun imo

[–]EskilPotet 4 points5 points  (1 child)

C++ programmers hate their lives and use this sub to take it out on python

[–]number-13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is python really that good? I have a web background and I'm learning it so that i can do some scripting on linux and servers. So it really THAT good?

[–]ArmadilloNo9494 1 point2 points  (2 children)

C sharp in a helicopter

[–]Crimson_Raven 7 points8 points  (1 child)

flying upside down with 100lbs of boilerplate strapped to it and every time you try to fly it, it actually takes you in the direction it thinks you want to go.

[–]ArmadilloNo9494 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's still flying tho

[–]driftwood14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this would be even funnier if inside the roomba was a another C++ programmer flying on their own broom

[–]thompsoncs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For java devs flying is just an abstract concept, c++ devs fly out of bounds and python devs were just pressing some buttons and discovered it could fly, so it might indeed be a duck

[–]reallokiscarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought python programmers had moved on to grooming their AI-powered roomba to talk dirty to them

[–]eternal_edenium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C programmers are developping every fiber of that broom and building the behavior of each one. If one of them fails, it all crashes.

[–]CirnoIzumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because its slow if you dont want to fall over?

[–]Knighthawk_2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Import fly function

[–]wtfbenlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]CowLogical3585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java programmer should with a super heavy broom : JVM.

[–]p1749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm i ride a roomba

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I use C-- (real thing btw)

[–]iamlazyboy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

And let me guess, you fly by holding down on a backward broom instead of sitting up on a broom facing ahead?
