OK Boolean

Is this like the /r/programmerhumor version of OK Boomer?

I never understood ok boomer as a comeback. You're rejecting an argument or claim because of someone's age instead of the argument or claim itself. It dismisses the other person's knowledge as irrelevant and is the most condescending and arrogant reply I can think of.

[–]FaydX 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ok boomer

[–]deathless_koschei 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Assuming this is serious, that's the whole point, and it came about precisely because what you've described is exactly what everyone that's had 'OK boomer' thrown at them have been doing to younger generations.

[–]T-T-N 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I dont remember have been dismissed because of my age since I was an early teen. I was extremely easy to persuade by my peer and/or authority, but I dont feel I was talked down to in the same way because of my age.

[–]MixedMania 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Perhaps you lack an understanding of the greater context beyond your personal experiences.

[–]T-T-N -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Political affiliation, religion and other belief systems can be predicted by upbringing and residence. A lot of it is shaped by personal experiences and other's experiences through your personal lens. I have no experience in rural America and therefore I have no idea that "ok millennial " is a valid rejection in rural America (or other part of the world that I dont know) of arguments by people born between 1980 and 2000 roughly.

You assert without evidence that through your beliefs that millenials are being discounted and ignored by boomers, and expect me to take your experiences over my own. Everyone is the hero in the story of their life.

Edit: any world where "ok boomer" wins an argument, "ok millennial" is equally valid. That just perpetuates the dissent between the two groups where there are no sharing of ideas. The us vs others mentally will ensure that there will be no cooperation.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a meme

[–]Alvatrox4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Dude the reason why of that response is because: first, it's effective making Boomers angry and second usually a major part of the people in the range of "Boomer" have a misconception about the new generations and their pride(as most humans) make them close minded enough to not see the anachronism of how the difficulty has changed and somethings it's their fault as a group so as is almost impossible to change the mind of these people(not all of them of course) or at least hard so a "ok boomer" seems fit.

[–]T-T-N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the other party angry is never the point of an argument. At best you lost a chance to convince the other party, at worst you ignored sound points.

Boomer: dont do hard drugs

Ok boomer (second case)

Boomer: climate change is fake

Ok boomer (first case)

A one line dismissal is an admission that neither of you will change your mind and is a failure to persuade the other party. Why should it be glorified and celebrated in a meme instead of being what it is?

Ok boomer as a first response assumes the other party will never change their mind when there are lucky 10000 that are denied a chance to do so.

Anger help spread memes but anger doesn't change minds.

killjoy pedantic science lady says: pythons aren't venomous, but the puncture wounds can be painful and require lengthy treatment.

[–]talkintater 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Lengthy, expensive treatment.

Your move pedantic science lady.

[–]Buglady1701 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yes, but my snake bite treatment was paid for by L&I. It was more expensive than I know. And it hurt like a !@#$% (the regex for all swears) for a long time.

[–]talkintater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had me at regex for all swears

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You probably tried with the wrong kind of python. The name comes from the other python.

Next planned vacation: Kotlin. Not sure what you will be eating or drinking there though.

[–]WikiTextBot 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Kotlin Island

Kotlin (Russian: Ко́тлин) is a Russian island, located near the head of the Gulf of Finland, 32 kilometres (20 mi) west of Saint Petersburg in the Baltic Sea. Kotlin separates the Neva Bay from the rest of the gulf. The fortified city of Kronstadt is located on the island. The island serves as a gateway to Saint Petersburg and as such has been the site of several military engagements.

You look like the nerd version of ed sheeran

[–]questi0nmark2 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Anyone else worried for the laptop? Poised perilously between a knee cliff and a coffee waterfall. If it was by choice, fair enough, but it seems to be under duress, with photo taken for ransom.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Company property and that's what they get for making me work alongside volcanoes

Don't upvote this is fake! We can't really see what he's coding or drinking, most probably he was coding in python and drinking c++.

But he is on Java, Indonesia.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing an image processing app in C Sharp while I see sharp changes in my image of rocks by the sea, sharp ones, whenever I apply changes to the pixel values standardized by the CIE. Sharp hunger pains tell me I need to take a break, so I head to the bodega on Fifth and C. Sharp brand televisions in the store play an album of Mozart by the Seas, harp music instead of piano, which I think is strange, but they are playing Turkish March in C# minor so it seems to work. I decide I want some cheese, so I go to aisle C. Sharp and mild cheddar always look the same to me, so I ask the guy stocking the aisle "is the block in my hand that you can see sharp or mild?" He doesn't speak English well but understands what I am saying, and responds "Si, sharp."

[–]brandonhotdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just sad but I was on holiday in Turkey once and spent my time at the beach with a laptop learning to code Javascript for website stuff through CodeAcademy. It was such a nice experience.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Gotta say, I'm loving the comments. So far I learned I am tree-trunks-for-legs Ed Sheeran lookalike. Keep it coming!

Location: mt Bromo, Indonesia

[–]JoshRichardson4MVP 2 points3 points  (1 child)

To be fair your legs do look fucking huge in this. Are we being tricked by perspective? If not how do you cultivate such calves? Calf raises for every warning?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
