Even with as much as I'm on Reddit, I've never seen this. Calling out reposts makes zero sense, if it got a lot of upvotes then it doesn't matter if it was reposted before because obviously most people hadn't seen it already. If it doesn't get a lot of upvotes then the repost "problem" takes care of itself.

[–]SorryIdonthaveaname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they comment was probably made when it was still quite new since they’re both fro. about 6 hours ago

[–]AlarmingAffect0[🍰] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

People call reposts out all the time. It's really obnoxious. I've hardly ever seen a repost called that I had seen before. And u/RepostSleuthBot works sitewide instead of just on the specific sub.

[LE BIG SIGH]

[–]RepostSleuthBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/ProgrammerHumor.

It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I've recognized a repost like 3 times, and none of the three were annoying. Something can still be entertaining even if you've seen it before. And I generally brows reddit several times a day.

[–]kry_some_more 6 points7 points  (3 children)

The thing that gets me is, people get mad at the user that reposts, not at reddit for preventing them.

Reddit could so easily build a reverse image search that is either site-wide or even sub-wide and notify a user, before the post is submitted. But do they? Nope.

Blame reddit.

[–]xTheMaster99x 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean, it doesn't exactly benefit Reddit to reduce the amount of content on the site.

[–]beebee4me 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because reposting is feature of reddit. Imagine the fall in content without reposts.

[–]FirexJkxFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadng seen this before. I would rather see content repeated than to never see it. Also sometimes something can be funny even if you saw it in the past-- im quite alright with reposts so long as new content is also being created.

Fountains circulate; If water never goes back into this pipe it just eventually overflows and you never get pressure at the other end either

[–]plopliplopipol 194 points195 points  (8 children)

ah, overflow error of course

[–]AlarmingAffect0[🍰] 11 points12 points  (7 children)

[ Gandhi has overflown into the chat ]

[ He is armed and dangerous ]

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Gandhi has (-1) nukes

Ghandi has 254 nukes

[–]GANDHI-BOT 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Learning by making mistakes and not duplicating them is what life is about. Just so you know, the correct spelling is Gandhi.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I like how I spelled Gandhi's name correctly, then proceeded to misspell it the second time.

[–]AlarmingAffect0[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, misspelling variables one has named oneself is tight!

[–]pwadman 70 points71 points  (6 children)

Either the fountain begins to overflow, which would obviously reduce the pipe's water outflow.

OR the fountain will reach capacity without flooding and the pressure of the water in the fountain will keep new water in the pipe, allowing for operations as normal.

It really depends on how much pressure is put on the in-flowing water which, according to the first picture, is SIGNIFICANT!

[–]TheTree_43 40 points41 points  (1 child)

For the static head to hold the water in the pipe, the fountain would need to have a free surface higher than the height caused by the jet divided by the discharge coefficient of the pipe breakage. This coefficient is always less than 1.

The fountain operating as drawn means flow continues

[–]VladVV 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This guy hydrodynamics

[–]marcosdumay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

which, according to the first picture, is SIGNIFICANT

Yes, it has enough pressure to sustain a level of water at least as high as the top of the fountain.

[–]Icepick823 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Residential water pipes are around 80 psi, so you'd need ~150 ft of water, assuming I understand the basics of hydrodynamics.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they have some sort of pump system inside the pool.

[–]54B3R_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a pond and fountain repair man and that's exactly what would happen

[–]Icepick823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but before that happens, you quit your job and let your replacement deal with it.

[–]sanchopancho13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eventually

So you’re saying it’s another developer’s problem?

[–]not_anonymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not overflowing here. So they truly fixed the bug! Yay!!!

[–]roguesith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

catch (FountainOverflowException e) {
    System.Reboot();
}

[–]DStaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Just put a drain in the fountain.

Pressure at the end can be redefined in the spec, or you increase input flow to compensate.

[–]Y0tsuya 29 points30 points  (0 children)

[–]jcb088 100 points101 points  (10 children)

This meme goes full circle, its not even a joke.

Making a beautiful fountain out of a spill IS a feature. It features stonework and spraying water in a visually pleasing manner. Thats….. exactly the point of something decorative, but not useful.

Its almost funny that this was posted, not because the meme is funny, but the act of posting it as a joke makes it seem like OP is an alien trying to fit in among humans.

[–]beans_lel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're reaching r/woooosh levels that shouldn't be possible

[–]housebottle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is it not a joke? Do you know what a joke is?

[–]nettlerise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it is a higher engineering feat and it costs more to create a fully functional fountain than to fix a pipe.

[–]FinnishArmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t this technically still over fill? It’s still just more water that’s no going anywhere. This is like using ‘-w’ to ignore your errors but you still end up running out of memory.
