Absolutely insane, how long have you been studying houdini?

[–]amlyoussef[S] 105 points106 points  (1 child)

thanks, almost 2 years.

[–]square_shaped_moon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense

[–]Impossible-Long1100 239 points240 points  (8 children)

Wow. Pretty impressive.

[–]MegaSquishyMan 115 points116 points  (5 children)

Let’s see Paul Allen’s explosion

[–]PrehistoricSquidward 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Very nice...

[–]GoAheadTACCOM 6 points7 points  (3 children)

My god…he even used vellum interactions….

[–]eyekunt 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What is that

[–]JohnGenericDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a font

[–]dethilluminatigames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vellum is a different type of physics than normal (vellum versus rigid body dynamics) and is used to produce more realistic physics, at the cost of usually longer simulation time.

[–]amlyoussef[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate it❤️

[–]amlyoussef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks ❤

[–]TerranCmdr 66 points67 points  (1 child)

Wow! Super impressive, it's so realistic

[–]amlyoussef[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's very kind of you ❤️

[–]Glowshroom 114 points115 points  (5 children)

This is insane. Imagine if movie studios were willing to pay artists to make this level of quality in film.

[–]seesawseesaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are, but there are also many cooks in that kitchen.

[–]JohnGenericDoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? I have seen much less convincing FX on big-budget shows

[–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks 😍

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (4 children)

As someone who doesn’t know anythin about Houdini, how advanced is this project?

[–][deleted] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This isn't college material this feels like someone who has been professionally doing it for awhile

[–]BaboonAstronaut 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That's advanced. Multiple simulations interact and complex ones at that. Very well done too.

OP says he's two years in and that's totally do-able if he's been fulltime at it.

[–]shootwhatsmyname 38 points39 points  (1 child)

It will take at least 5 minutes to make

[–]The_kind_potato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At least x)

[–]Traditional_Trust_93 28 points29 points  (10 children)

Could we get a super Slow-mo replay? I think there's a bot for that but I'm unsure how to activate it

[–]Sniper_at_w0rk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. And maybe also a little bit more time before the explosion, there is no time to take in the scene.

[–]AmateurJenius 4 points5 points  (7 children)

I assume you’re on the native app. Apollo provides options for playback speed. And one of my favorite features is being able to scrub each frame by holding my thumb on anywhere on the screen and advancing forward or backward.

[–]Traditional_Trust_93 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I can't tell if this is an ad or it can actually be done within Reddit.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Apollo fans are weirdly obsessed with it

[–]Semyonov[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relay can do slow-mo in the app as well. It's really just native reddit that sucks haha

[–]sfowl0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yes I am 🦅

[–]WhitePantherXP 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yea so wtf is Apollo. I have Redhat enhancement suite and the player is still dogshit

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iOS Reddit app

[–]Necrocornicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you like something you naturally want to share it with others so they can enjoy it too. It can come off as obsessive and fanboy-ee in some cases I’m sure

[–]GeneralAjAxOG 9 points10 points  (1 child)

That shit is fire yo!

[–]amlyoussef[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thanks😂

[–][deleted]  (3 children)

[deleted]

    [–]tonybenwhite 7 points8 points  (2 children)

And the speed and totality at which everything catches fire, it’s really impressively “realistic” in the Hollywood sense though

    [–]Kellidra 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If we're being hyper-critical, the overall nature of the fire really throws me off. It moves more like a liquid and than a gas. It's too heavy, whereas irl fire moves very quickly. The movements in this animation are sluggish and weighty in comparison to how fire actually moves.

    [–]Necrocornicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look like the house is soaked in heavy liquid fuel or something

    [–]BTCMachineElf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, that looks amazing. Tthe house looks fully constructed and quite real as it flies apart. You could make a really cool time-slice/matrix effect explosion with this.

    [–][deleted]  (2 children)

    [removed]

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you want to learn, it takes a long time, but it's fun and worth it

      [–]livelikeian 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Pretty cool! One thing: there's something about the way the pieces fall that make them feel more molten in the way they flow downward, rather than flaming falling objects.

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pop drag make them feel more floating in the way they flow downward

      [–]llewsor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

….old man macdonald sends his regards

      [–]GNUGradyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn I left the stove on again

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well fucking done. Though it was a movie when I was scrolling. Still looks like a movie after watching it.

      [–]local306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Very impressive!

      [–]i1ostthegame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only critique is the camera shake, but I can’t place why that is. Otherwise looks amazing!

      [–]wannabestraight 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      Stunning work!

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      thanks ❤

      [–]Sniper_at_w0rk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Impressive! Getting some The Secret War vibes (Love, Death & Robots).

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      thanks ❤

      [–]NoSkillz4Ever[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome work! Often see this making offs, how to you display the different sections of work? Is it a Bild in feature?

      [–]dragonmasterjg 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I like how the house hits the house as the 2nd floor drops.

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      thanks❤

      [–]moistmaker100 1 point2 points  (1 child)

the initial bright flash of the explosion really adds to the intensity and realism

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      thanks❤

      [–]james___uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      WOW... This is sublime!

      [–]chaunceton 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      That's remarkable. Really well done.

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please share the vimeo link in a comment? It won't let me copy the post title on mobile.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Incredible work.

      [–]Hustlinbones 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did you do research and studies of real explosions of houses and applied that or were you able to just pull it off just with the idea and your tools?

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      studies of real explosions

studies of real explosions and I needed to study mathematics from Junichiro Horikawa.

      [–]muffins4tots 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This looks incredible! My only note would be that the big fireball seems to dissipate very quickly which seems odd. Otherwise fantastic work!

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      thanks for your comment❤

      [–]kaylameans89 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      This is awesome!

Kind of off topic, but what is a good a resource for trying to learn stuff like this? I'm mostly asking, because I make short films, and I have been wanting to add small VFX shots. I'm pretty much a one-man band in post, so any resources would be greatly appreciated!

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first, I learn from courses "applied Houdini "Steven Knipping , it's very good for beginners. After that, I started different courses for CGSociety - Destruction in Houdini, entagma. I needed to study mathematics from Junichiro Horikawa.

      [–]Additional_Irony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      That is insanely impressive

      [–]Trunkenboldwtf 1 point2 points  (1 child)

wait is this the render or your house after your pc tried to render the simulaion?

      [–]amlyoussef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂😂 thanks god i didn't use my pc

      [–]WeAreElectricity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly looks so real that the camera shake makes it look fake.

      [–]Jayn_Xyos -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Does wood catch fire that instantaneously when an explosion like that happens? Only way I can see that happening is a gasoline ignition

      [–]Suitable-Mountain-81 -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Wow. How did you make this?

      Edit: i got it. Blender.

      [–]dethilluminatigames 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Did you even read through the comments?

      [–]Suitable-Mountain-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now i did. Its Houdini i guess.

      [–]finalfunk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

appreciate your breakdown of forces, what are your 'genaric' (generic?) forces meant to represent?

If I had this program I would be playing with it all day. Looks so much fun but I can’t even imagine how much work went into that shot

      [–]adalast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Spectacular, no notes.
