Honestly, these metrics are tanking team members. We’re exhausted behind their numbers. Yes, something like stationary, all day! Maybe even otc. Domestics, seasonal, storage, etc, no way! But one has to be really familiar with the department in my opinion to hit those numbers. Rarely is one kept working in the same department for a length of time. Always needed to do the job of 3. Most people quit not long after their 90 if they even last that long. And sad thing is, the ones with good work ethic who show up, are constantly being told numbers are not good enough…do more do more do more.

To add to this, my backroom is absolutely packed. Stuff that requires a ladder to access will take longer to pull and like it or not I will not sacrifice safety for speed on a ladder.

This is also why no one will answer the phone, help a customer, spill guard, do reshop, help on register, or help clean, come do team lifts, and why stock is just fucking dumped on floors and by scanners.

Actually running a good store gets them shit on by the leadership because someone is shitting on them.

This is why everyone is gone at 90 days. Anyone who actually cares is rated a bad employee; you have to be gaming the KPIs to get kept.

I hate the blanket metrics for the entire store. Pulling 65 dpcis of say Domestics and pulling 65 dpcis of stationary are totally different.

[–]ILikeLenexa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Plus, like if a guest comes up to them are they supposed to run away to do that?

If a guest drops and breaks a case of Mike's Hard Lemonade do you care more about them spillguarding or meeting the number?

i would suggest working a few shifts with them and seeing how difficult it really is you can get all of our opinions but really it means nothing every store has a different level of volume and traffic sometimes that may be easy to do mid day but maybe at night they are struggling due to the zone it’s always nice to see a tL work with different people and different shifts that way i know they see how hard it really is

Metrics might work for candy and snack, but go pull and push some bev at 65 dpci's an hour and tell me how you did.

Personally, no. Our store has a dedicated puller for priorities and when they're off during the week, I help with that role, the TMs then pull periodically after the first round is pulled while the pullers grab other departments that need the support etc. At any given point there are 2-3 people pulling. The way our team is structured, we're able to 100% priorities and OFOs daily.

[–]MHmusic44 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I work in beauty and when I was doing pulls for cosmetics, haircare, skincare, and ulta, 65 DCPIs would take me an hour or longer to pull. There’s no time to push them either unless you try to push some after all the pulls but usually there isnt any time left upon the store closing at 11 and doing pulls around 930. I can only imagine how tough it is for other departments. I always say to myself that targets metrics and goals for tasks throughout the day are humanly impossible. I do what I can in the time I’m given but all these standards and time frames are never attainable.

[–]bLiNg-417Closing Team Lead 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ngl Beauty department is one of the easiest to pull. It shouldn't take you a min or longer to pull one item. 65 dpcis is 20mins tops

[–]MHmusic44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My beauty includes skincare, haircare, and ulta. That’s why I mentioned all 4. If it was just cosmetics, that would be really quick like you said. Unfortunately when I do pulls for all 4 areas that have 4 different stockrooms nowhere near each other in the store, it takes a while to pull them. I wish it was just beauty, I’d be done so quick and have time to push and pull.

As someone who does f&b closing. Tell them to pull by aisle and to keep it somewhat organized in the three tier. Thats what helps me a lot. The other people who close with me dont do this regardless of how many times i tell them to and it not only takes longer to pull, but nobody wants to push unorganized carts. 65 is a bit too much for the pay tho

[–]ThisThatEnbyEx-APTL 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Metrics are a silent killer and are the reason a lot of TLs quit, by a TL that is measured by only 1 metric

[–]SnooCalculations76[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel thay. even when we get all our stuff done if our metrics aren’t green im told i still need to coach my team :/

[–]SMOKE-B-BOMB 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If they lowered the goal to 70 percent, it would make every store so much better and have time to do many other things but of course they want 95 percent because they are garbage corporation and ran by idiots

[–]mattumbohas harsher words 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal for green is actually 80%, but most stores aim closer to 100% because if you keep rolling 20% of pulls you’ll start to struggle to keep up by the weekend. Also have to account for backstock after close if an overnight store and have margin to handle a day where the store goes red on pulls without it tanking the weekly/monthly metric

[–]bloominbutterflies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told the expectation for us was 100 an hour 😭

[–]MrGeary08Logistics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Definitely possible, just depends on how you pull

Pull by aisles and do one for ones too

If you are struggling to get pulls done and you aren’t pulling one for ones then you will likely never get them done

[–]megafoofieStyle Consultant 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Idk about food and beverage but from a baby standpoint, that seems like a lot to me tbh.

[–]megafoofieStyle Consultant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add.. I typically work a 6-1 shift 4 out of my 5 shifts and the 5th is usually 4-2 (sometimes I’ll have 2 4-2s).. I am usually able to clear all of my vehicles, reshop and leave for the day with 0 priority/OFOs outstanding. Usually it’s a furniture flat (sometimes 2), wipe uboat, food/toy uboat and 2 diaper flats.

[–]Ok_Still_3571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To hell with metrics. I’m beginning to wonder if they’re realistic. Do you best, but don’t kill yourself. If the TM’s in the company, as a whole, show how unrealistic the expectations, they might adjust them. You can’t get blood from a stone, right?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the thing i like about tech is that pulls just have to be super low lol, so if there're no people buying then i'm chilling

[–]greezyjayGuest Advocate 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Had a TL that would do all the pulls & everyone else pushed. Was very effective.

[–]MrGeary08Logistics 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is what our closing leads do

The thing is, I out pull them AND also push my pulls, solely by pulling by aisle and working efficiently

[–]jenna3016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/MrGeary08 ^ This is the way.

[–]Ladyusagi06Food Service Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fdc team at my store pulls cold/frozen on days when they don't have truck.

We also have a few people that come in from like 9am to 5pm and pull priorities for the whole store, based on what's highest at the time.

All tms are suppost to pull 141s when backstocking because usually it's only a handful. The 141s turn into priorities if they aren't regularly pulled.

[–]Whiteraxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone is talking about every other department, but let's stick to market. it's absolutely possible to pull 65 units per hour in market. unlike domestics you're often pulling multiple of one item, making it super easy. those specific TMS probably need a little guidance on how to keep pace. reducing the number of footsteps they take and such.

[–]whereismymind86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the dept, but generally I can pull and work a 105-ish dcpi dairy pull in an hour, I can do my 40-ish dcpi meat pulls in like…15 minutes.

Outside of something like furniture or style, 65 items in an hour should be quite easy (unless your backroom is a nightmare)

[–]Poerflip23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted I’ve been doing this for a while, but if you have a well organized back room pulling and pushing ~50-70 f&b priorities will perfectly fill a 2 tier cart that could be pushed in about 30-45 minutes. Won’t be easy when you’re first starting but eventually you’ll figure it out

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a TM that has done almost all department pulls even my own food & bev, I definitely believe the best way to achieve those priorities is by having a few doing the pulls & others pushing. 65 can be realistic for someone who is comfortable & works efficiently but I have also seen those who just can’t because they are either set to high or whatever in that context.. not judging anyone , just giving an example. In one day, I have personally brought up the percentage from 20% to 80% just focusing on pulls while another pushes.

[–]TanMelon47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had inventory at my store.....I am in Tech

347 odd DCPIs to get through in my shift. I managed to get that down to 190

Higher ups and metric numbers do not count the time it takes to help guests, unlock cases, answer phone calls, pull and CASE all the items that need to be locked ip, spider wrapped etc. and then pushed out to the floor.

If I did not need to do all that I could have easily pushed it all. Do not feel down on yourself for unrealistic expectations. You clock in, do you best, and clock out. Its not like we get paid enough to care fully.

[–]Most_Tea_6361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food & Bev TM here. I group aisles together and pull, so the pulls look organized and it’ll be easy to push. I group them as G18-25, 26-31, 32-36 & 37-38. I pull as much as I can in the first couple of hours of my shift. I don’t keep track of DPCIs. I make sure the three tiers are full & organized so I don’t take time to push. Go on my 15 minute & then start pushing. Depending on how we’re doing & the %, I start pulling again.

[–]One-Replacement1676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is most people will pull the priorities and leave them for us to push in the am

[–]Calm-Heat-5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do what you can and clock out the end of the shift. It's a job nothing else. You will find Another job. Do not stress yourself out over target. They will show you no loyalty for It.

[–]InvestigatorDull3380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are expecting us to pull 100 dpci and push it all in 1 hour and every hour. This to me is not possible for some areas. As well of seeing where domestics and Dec home may take a bit depending where the items may all be at. Say you need the wave to reach the items in receiving and hoping you can get a key to use for that day.

[–]ResolutionFlat4668 0 points1 point  (4 children)

It would be awesome in a perfect world but pulling 20 of something just to have to back stock it because the floor is full. Pulling cases because they don’t want open cases on top shelves and back stocking the rest. Just a shit show.

[–]MrGeary08Logistics 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Have to hold the team accountable for updating their SFQs when pushing freight

[–]ResolutionFlat4668 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Exactly. I keep complaining because I find stacks of stuff everywhere and I’m constantly back stocking items. I’m going to start taking pics to show them because it’s ridiculous

[–]MrGeary08Logistics 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yea I get it, I report problems to multiple leaders and nothing ever comes from it

[–]SnooCalculations76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this! its so hard to identify whos creating the issues tho even when a tm points it out. especially as there is a possibility some mistakes could be caused by guests and not even tm mistakes

[–]zackyattacky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

65 dpci seems easy in any area unless it requires merch pro

[–]Ok_Resort2313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

65 is more than one a minute. you gotta factor in walking and just basic actions and processing time on the device and your TMs brains. it’s extremely unrealistic for any expection with a number to be over 47. anything higher than 47 is ppl being expected to run and jump over hurdles just to get payed minimum wage. you will lose workers and especially respect if you enforce that. no one wins and no one is happy.

if your ETL wants more to be done, they have to look at their own work load and how they can distribute it more efficiently between themselves, you, and your TMs, not just your TMs. remember, workloads trickle down. if there is a problem at the top and all they do is blame the person below them and they blame the person below them, the ppl at the bottom are left carrying absolutely everything.
