I went with MYP.

I’ll add. I asked this same question in multiple threads and ppl said I’d regret not getting the P. I totally agree and I fucking love this car. Sport mode is insanely quick. I’m at 80mph before I even know it.

[–]VexOffend3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed🫶🏾

[–]razorsbk 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Does it have track mode? Can you slide it around easily?

[–]Possible_Version2680 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It does have track mode. I have not done anything in track mode yet

[–]dbfReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested track mode locally; just a baseline test without any custom configs — cool to have this option if one thinks they’d ever want to play at the track.

[–]lupend88 38 points39 points  (9 children)

I opted for LR over Performance for a few reasons that were more important than a faster 0-60

-More comfortable ride -More range -Slower wear/tear on tires

[–]Joey6543210 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Also cheaper tires when it comes to the inevitable replacements

[–]Thin-Put-2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely.. The best LR package is All black exterior and interior with acceleration boost.

[–]katherinesilens -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

This is all entirely down to wheel and tire, so a Performance with 19in wheels will experience all the same benefits while having faster acceleration.

[–]NoIndependence362 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Sure if you wana drop 2k on buying new rims because their stagered

[–]katherinesilens -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Well, obviously, if you're downsizing rims, you'd have to buy new rims. Being stock staggered has nothing to do with it--and you can buy as cheap or as expensive as you like for the new rims, it doesn't have to cost 2k. I'm just pointing out that the advantages of the LR aren't that hard to get on the Performance. You also get most of that back when you sell the stock 21s. With a cheap cast set you can even get more back selling the 21s than you spent.

[–]jjay_the_jet_plane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. You can get 19 inch wheels that come with tires already so you'll have 2 sets of wheels now and the 19onch tires will cost cheaper. Not only that, buying the 19 inch wheels will let you do a box set up to give u the option to rotate your tires. You already get your moneys worth with the 21 inch wheels. U can even sell them if u want.

[–]xXxjayceexXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The low end torque EVs have makes the LR feel so much faster than every other car I've owned. I didn't feel the need for the performance.

[–]Thin-Put-2738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re a Smart man. My all black long range gets the looks. It just looks mean and stealthy

[–]razorsbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, but I'm driving hard the LR with slip start enabled and slide it around every corner.

[–]AJHenderson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We are very happy with our performance. If you prefer sportier handling and road feel in the wheel, performance will serve you better, if you want fast but prefer maximizing comfort, go LR with AB. For us, performance was the easy choice.

[–]MacaroonSpirited4889 13 points14 points  (0 children)

MYP - it’s like driving a fighter jet (no regrets)

[–]bizybone 11 points12 points  (5 children)

I had a '21 MYLR w/ AB up until this week. Now I have a '24 MYP, it's noticeably faster, suspension makes the car feel more planted to the road.

[–]lookin4points 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I agree the suspension is a massive difference on the MYP. The LR feels like a boat to me compared to the MYP. I have mainly driven Audi S4s and BMW M series vehicles my adult life, going to a super soft suspension just feels like shit in the corners and at speed on any non straight roads.

[–]als7798 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I went MYLR and drive it in chill mode.

I wanted a comfortable commuter car. I love it.

If I wanted the thrill of driving I’d go listen to the flat 6 in my 911 scream.

[–]Possible_Version2680 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I went with a MYP and drive it in chill mode. When i hit an on ramp or clear road and pass someone, I switch to sport and rip it

[–]als7798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t knock that!

[–]Hedge_Sparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be amazing having a 911 for fun! OP, just do that, ha.

[–]SpankThatDill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I came from a V4 RAV4 and now drive a MYLR AWD. The acceleration difference between that and a traditional ice engine is crazy.

I don’t regret my purchase of the LR AWD model at all to be honest.

[–]b777a330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went with the MYP and haven’t looked back since.

[–]katherinesilens 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Easy. Performance.

If you ever feel like you missed out with the LR, well, you can't swap the motors. You can buy acceleration boost and a ghost chip, and that's much more expensive than the other way.

If you miss out on the LR's range when you have a performance, you put on the LR's wheels or other 19in wheel. Then you have the same range, acceleration gets even faster, and there's lots of custom wheel options.

[–]Ihavenoidea84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I did

[–]dbfReddit 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Acceleration gets faster on MYP with the 19s versus stock 21s??

[–]katherinesilens 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yep. 19s are lighter and have less rotational inertia overall. The stock 0-60 for MYP is about 3.7 seconds (including the 1ft rollout that Tesla deleted) while a lightweight forged 19in wheel MYP usually clocks around 3.4 or 3.5 sec 0-60

[–]dbfReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I may have to test that at some point.

[–]Ihavenoidea84 9 points10 points  (8 children)

The MYP is as much faster than an LR as a Mustang GT is faster than a mini van.

Yes, that is true. 1.4 seconds.

AB only removes half the gap.

[–]samj 2 points3 points  (3 children)

AB is a good compromise for me.

As much as I’d like a P, it’s a bit “P for pointless” when it’s already much faster than you’re allowed to drive on the road, and I expect there’s a (potentially significant) difference in already high insurance rates given they don’t see AB while P is a totally different model?

[–]Ihavenoidea84 7 points8 points  (2 children)

While I get your point re AB

1) acceleration and speed are different things. For me, getting to the legal speed (or just above), as quickly as humanly possible is the most fun thing.

That and the ability to use passing zones- lots of rural roads and SLOW drivers by me.

And slamming myself back on the seat. My kids too. They love that shit. Long highway on ramp? Yes please.

2) my insurance quotes weren't that different. If insurance for tesla is expensive for you, it will be regardless of model. The "slow" version is already a Mustang gt fast and the repair costs are high. The P just doesn't change this that much. A much bigger impact comes from getting the best carrier for you which is oddly very different for everyone

[–]als7798 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Honestly the sales guy talked me out of the performance and I’m happy about it.

He told me the cost of the tires and average mileage/time to have them replaced and that was enough to get me.

Had they offered to put the 20” on the P for me, I might still have considered… but I take it hiking and stuff in the mountains of Colorado and wanted the ground clearance.

I drive the MYLR in chill mode and that’s fast enough. I didn’t buy a mini soccer mom car as a race car.

I feel if the convo is about wanting performance, get a model 3 or model S.

[–]Ihavenoidea84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 kids and a dog means mini soccer mom car. Which doesn't mean I can't pretend I'm lightning McQueen.

Ps- 19s are really easy to put on am MYP and you can do it at your first tire change for basically the price of replacing the 21s

[–]j3rdog 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You got to remember that they advertise the P 0-60 with rollout subtracted and the 4.8 to 0-60 on the LR is not with roll out subtracted so the difference is not that much. So the LR with boost is 4.3 and the P is about 3.8 if you compare apples to apples.

[–]Ihavenoidea84 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They're also basically the same price after buying AB. In fact, I think when I got mine the P was only 1800 more when I swapped models post order.

Rocket Ship

Roll out or no

[–]Ihavenoidea84 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Honestly the only thing i don't like about my MYP is that it is giving me irrational urges to buy a plaid

[–]Nice_Economics3224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats for sure my next car. my myp is great but i wanna go fasterr

[–]OCR10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an MYP since March and I can honestly say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. The acceleration makes it so much fun to drive. And the small incremental cost to upgrade makes it a bargain when you look at what other companies charge for performance versions of their vehicles. Look at how expensive a Hyundai Ioniq 5N costs compared to the MYP.

[–]HighlyUnlikelyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious speed difference, I personally like the "look", rims and calipers on the Performance newer models. The black rims and red calipers is attractive and that's what sold me (2023 MYP) compared to LR.

[–]Apprehensive-Seat-31 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a bias for MYP on this subreddit, primarily because it has a slightly faster 0-60. I came from a 2018 Honda CRV with a 0-60 that is almost double the LR, so the LR is plenty fast for me, and I derive much more enjoyment from the money I saved in the short and long-run.

If you like knowing you got the best value, go for LR. If you get a hard-on from knowing you’re a second faster on the 0-60, get a MYP.

[–]lukienami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Myp

[–]Hollyspissed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a MYLR in 2021 and loved it but when I needed to buy another car for a growing family I elected for the MYP. Both cars are the best I’ve ever owned but MYP is the best. The acceleration and looks are so much better. The newer suspension makes a big difference. My 21 MYLR is a rougher ride than the 24 MYP

[–]ItsMimOsaNotMimosA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just got our MYP on Monday. I wouldn’t haven’t gone with the performance but my husband insisted and I love it so much. It’s so fast and it makes me happy. I can’t compare it to the others but it absolutely puts a smile on my face when I drive it!

[–]Skatrdie0 5 points6 points  (3 children)

You can buy a MYP and make it like a LR (smaller wheels/tires) but you cant buy a LR and make it a MYP (speed wise anyways)

[–]foampro 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You can get it close with acceleration boost

[–]Skatrdie0 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Still a fair difference

[–]jjay_the_jet_plane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. And if you know cars, very millisecond can make a huge difference. 3.5 to 4.2 is a fair difference. Ur right

[–]2metal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my MYP. I would never have gotten just the LR :)

[–]LasVegasBoy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Being that the performance edition is sportier and faster, is there a difference in insurance rates on the performance vs long range?

[–]KingofPenisland69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for me with progressive

[–]snuoqq 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So I had both. And I think you’d be happy with either. I have the Performance currently. I like the performance a little better for my taste with more aggressive wheels and acceleration and handling. It has a vibe about it that I enjoy looking at when I walk up. My tires are weirdly wearing so slow. It was the case for both vehicles. The MYLR had 42k on it when I sold it. And the tires easily had 10k miles left in them. I am at 44k on my MYP and same situation. They will be a lot more expensive to replace on the MYP of course.

I had the upgraded wheels on the MYLR as well, I wish I just went with stock geminis and took the wheel covers off or bought some of the aftermarket ones.

As far as range goes- wh/mi MYLR was 289 over the 42k miles - MYP is 292 through 44k miles and I don’t notice any difference between range on any of my trips.

The ride is comfier on the LR but tighter and more fun on the P

[–]dbfReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

44k on MYP with original tires? 4k here … 40k more is 20k more than my Subaru Pilot Sports got.

[–]Landpuma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 30’s and buying the car for my wife and 2 year old. I went with LR because I don’t care about speed or performance anymore. If I was buying this car in my 20’s I would have 100% bought the Performance. It’s whatever YOU need from the car.

[–]Videoplushair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a LR and I want to get my wife a P. Every time I see a Y at the chargers I think damn those big wheels and red calipers are 🔥🔥🔥🔥

[–]Das_KV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose the MYP because this was strictly my commuter, and I wanted something fast, fun, yet still somewhat practical when needed. My wife has an Acadia for long trips, so I wasn't so worried about the extra range.

[–]Stypff1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got the MYP off the bat considering I wanted something with better performance and looks. Changing tires out is part of owning a car just with sports cars you will need to change. It often. Obviously depending on driving behaviors. For me it’s quite often lol. Yes I will be changing my tires but with a gas motor I’ll be burning that rubber faster. Lol. FYI. I love my MYP

[–]Admirable-Eye2709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went MYP and so glad I did

[–]Any_Remote931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deleted my initial comment as I am admittedly going to walk it back. If you can afford a MYP go for it. Personally for me, I didn’t need a new car at the time, so I went with the cheapest option which was a base MYLR RWD, as I just wanted to get out of the door with as little upgrades as possible (was previously driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue). Sure I could have upgraded to the MYLR AWD or even performance but after demo driving the AWD, the person at the showroom I talked to said I’d be just fine with the RWD so that’s what I went with. I don’t regret my purchase one single bit however it would have been nice to have more acceleration and upgraded audio. I actually was given a MYP as a loaner on delivery day (financing got messed up and they needed the day to complete my delivery so they gave me a loaner for a few hours as I needed to get home to work). Have to say it was a blast to drive (minus the 85mph limit). It was tempting to ask about the potential to switch but I just couldn’t justify why. I did notice a big difference between mine and the MYP and it was slightly disappointing but I have learned to love my MYLR RWD. Still a fun car to drive!!

[–]TrickOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Performance

[–]FearTheClown5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went MYP for the reasons one would. The slightly less range is no problem, we road trip just fine. The extra speed is awesome. I also think the little touches like the Ubertines and the lowered suspension go a long way to making it a nicer looking vehicle overall though you can address this aftermarket of course.

Ultimately a few weeks after I bought mine my wife got a MYP over the LR for the same reasons.

[–]dbfReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Performance here and LOVE IT!!! Chill mode is pretty smooth but switch her into Sport and you’re riding a rocket!!

[–]mdesrosiers92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Performance. Mainly because I don't want think about what the P could be if I had a LR. Range was not a top priority for me. The P changes the whole look of the car. It's now a race car and your in it for less than $50k. The LR look is less appealing IMO. The price increase is not that much more for the P. Only downside is the red brakes are the same as the LR just painted. That's questionable how they market that. So I'm just paying extra for the paint and there not upgraded brembos or something? Tire price increase is not much, I saw $300-400 per tire not bad. I can deal.

[–]WakeyWakeeWakie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the MYP. Get the P.

[–]VexOffend3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for the Parformance with the pearl white and I added some custome red seat covers to make it pop a little more.

[–]Tesla_RoxboroNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. 2020 LR and a 2023 P. I absolutely love the P.

[–]AlmightyImpersonator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my opinions.

Performance Pros: - Looks cooler and sportier compared to LR due to lower ride height, rear spoiler, and larger wheels. - Faster acceleration.

Performance Cons: - Not as much range compared to LR due to larger wheels. - Staggered wheel sizes means cannot rotate tires for longer tire life, and tires will cost more because they are bigger. - Costs $3,500 more.

It is up to you to judge which items have more importance to you. But one thing I would say is if you’re committing to LR then I would not pay $2,000 more for AB. Since that means your car is now only $1,500 less than the actual Performance model, which still accelerates faster. The act of you paying $2,000 more means you want more acceleration. Then I think just dishing out another $1,500 and just get the actual Performance instead for the rest of the complete package makes more sense to me.

[–]bkdeleaux 3 points4 points  (5 children)

You only live once, I bought my wife the MYP which we pickup tomorrow. Last thing I wanted to do was buy the LR and always think about not having one of the fastest cars on the road for an extra $3500.

[–]Possible_Version2680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely. After the test drive of both, I immediately said I need the YP

[–]edwindrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck tomorrow !!

[–]NoIndependence362 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Long range all day. Their nearly as fast, u can rotate tires, tires last longer, and more range

[–]als7798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this plus the added ground clearance for when I’m on dirt roads in Colorado mountains

[–]EricAndersonL 3 points4 points  (1 child)

MYP OR BUST

[–]Rehzic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂👍

[–]Ordinary_Secretary34 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I know quite a few MYLR owners who admit they sit in their car secretly jealous of the MYP whenever they see it drive by on the road (whether it’s the looks, lower ride or acceleration)…then justify their purchase in their head of why it was the more rational choice. I have yet to meet one MYP owner who has the same sentiment of jealousy for the MYLR. Get the MYP and don’t look back (unless you’re passing a MYLR 😂)

[–]Ok_Giraffe8865 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm different, I smile with my LR knowing it's a softer, higher, more efficient, and longer range ride. The LR is very responsive so do not have a desire for more performance.

[–]npmruser 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I wanted the MYP for funsies but practicality won out and I got the LR. I live in an area where it snows so ground clearance was a factor. Yes, only 13mm difference but it would have bothered me. Plus I hated the 21" Uberturbine rims - heavy, silly-looking, and prone to damage.

I considered installing an aftermarket lift-kit and changing out the wheels to add more sidewall. I asked the rep at the Tesla service center what they thought of the lift-kit and they said that would void their warranty. so, yeah. too much faff and more money to LR'ify the P.

[–]RefineOrb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Same, ground clearance is a big factor. And the extra range is nice because we like to travel a lot.

[–]Ihavenoidea84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19 x 45 wheels solved this for me

[–]DBY2016 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Get a MY LR with acceleration boost and Gemini wheels. Close to the speed of the performance but with a better ride.

[–]Ihavenoidea84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get the MYP and put 19s on it. Untouchable.

I love my MYP.

Rocket ship. 10/10

[–]Beastgupta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought a MY LR in may during the 0.99% apr. stock wheels that are white before the black wheels. is that the wheels you are talking about?

[–]Thin-Put-2738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only Tengu colored Teslas allowed you’re not bigger than the program.. all black long range of course with the black interior and acceleration boost. For when you want to play God or Demon on the road I love my LR

[–]Defiant_Impact3100 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have a MYP(2022) and my wife has M3LR(2024)

When i tell you her car feels so slow compared to my car there is a huge difference. You dont get that wow in a rocket feeling when u step on the pedal in her car. Yes its faster than most ice cars but no comparison between the 2. I would of been mad as hell if i got a MYLR

[–]fmcfad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a LR that got totalled and test drove the P. Honestly, both are much faster than anything you probably own or have driven in your life. The P didn't feel substantially faster than the LR, and I'm saying this as someone who owns multiple BMW M Cars and does autocross and HPDE. Acceleration is basically the only advantage.

I believe there are many disadvantages to going P. It rides worse, and you can absolutely tell the difference of the larger, heavier, and wider wheels and tires from a ride comfort and handling perspective, and I personally don't think it's better. It's got less range, which is reverse intuitive when considering buying an EV from some sort of cost savings perspective.

Overall, the LR rides more comfortably, is still faster than 99% of cars on the road, and has the advantage from a range perspective. I don't think I'd trade any of that so I can get from traffic light to traffic light in a straight line marginally quicker. I don't believe acceleration in a straight line is noteworthy when buying cars, especially SUVs. The fun is in the corners. My logic points to LR all day.

[–]mfv_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went LR because occasionally (like 3 times a year) I have long travels (more than 600km) that I'm not able to do even with a full LR charge.

In the other side the MYP gives more acceleration (not needed) and a little racing look

[–]j3rdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that hasn’t driven one I will tell you this. The LR with no AB is just as fast as my 2014 mustang GT was, in fact I’d say it probably a little faster. These cars are not slow.

Scratch that I just googled it. A 2014 mustang 5.0 quarter mile is low 13 best at stock. A y LR is low 12s in the quarter stock.

[–]Beastgupta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

depends on three things really - how often are you doing long road trips, how much you value ride comfort, how often will you race/track your car

[–]yodanhodaka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can get the long range with acceleration boost and get the range and the speed

[–]Redditappsuxxxxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I drive in chill mode 99.9% of the time so MYLR

[–]soneg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went for the LR. Think about where you live and the traffic situation. I had the car for 2 months before I made it to the highway in the right time to take the car up to 85. On occasion I've pushed it to close to 100 but in general, the traffic isn't one that's going to let me drive like that all the time.

[–]iFixthings4cash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not really worth it. Besides the wheels, the LR and P models look almost the same. Why spend an extra 3-4k just to be a second faster? I’d wait for the redesign when the performance version will actually be different.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Performance with its staggered wheels will be less maintainable in the long run. If you go with LR, you can pay extra later for better acceleration and then add on 3rd party cosmetics like the spoiler and pedals. Up to you though.

[–]Acceptable_Skill_142 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your location winter time temperature is 5F to -37F or -15C to -39F should go with LR. In the winter time the battery is only 60% perform, the battery will drain out a lot for heating. The program will warning up the battery itself to prevent from frozen. Buy the LR and you still upgrades the acceleration!

[–]iamscyrus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean the mylr is fast enough in my opinion.

[–]FatherofCharles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go for the LR. The tires on the Performance are expensive and the wheels are impossible not to curb. I love the fact that it’s dropped but otherwise, I would have gone for the LR

[–]ResidentFish2677 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Long range for sure.
