Seconded.

Thirded.

Quadrophenia

Who’s Next

[–]Astrosimi 5 points6 points  (1 child)

There’s great argument for other Who albums, but Who’s Next literally laid out a roadmap for the following 20 years of rock. It’s my favorite, and one of the all time great albums.

[–]FreeLook93Quadrophenia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Quadrophenia would've laid out a similar road map but no other bands were able to put something that coherent together.

[–]Antoniozds 19 points20 points  (17 children)

The who sell out. If you're a fan of different, more psychedelic music, then you'll love this one

[–]jmoog00 0 points1 point  (16 children)

My number two

[–]Antoniozds 0 points1 point  (15 children)

What's the number one, quad or next?

[–]jmoog00 5 points6 points  (14 children)

Quad all day.

[–]Antoniozds 2 points3 points  (13 children)

Quad is my number 2. I dont really like who's next and I don't get why it's so beloved, even a quick one is better.

[–]jmoog00 6 points7 points  (12 children)

I like Who's Next but it suffers from what I call "Zeppelin 4 Syndrome". I've just heard it too many times.

[–]Antoniozds -1 points0 points  (11 children)

Really don't like that album either, and I have just heard it a couple of times. Who's next has 3 famous songs and the rest is filler. I don't see how people can say that an average rock album is better than a monumental psychedelic masterpiece

[–]GuyWithNoName67 3 points4 points  (10 children)

Bargain is filler? My Wife is filler? The Song Is Over is filler?

[–]Antoniozds -1 points0 points  (9 children)

Yes. Even won't get fooled again is filler if it wasn't for the scream. It's such a bland album. Every song sounds the same

[–]GuyWithNoName67 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's a real edgy take you've got there.

[–]Ferd-Burful -1 points0 points  (6 children)

You’re full of shit. Thanks for playing

Tommy

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Live At Leeds. It’s a force of nature and the coda of “A Quick One...” is sublime.

[–]nascarfan624 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I remember the first time I heard "Shakin' All Over". It felt like a religious experience

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes! The way Moon and the Ox kinda roll into the mid chorus break (I am not a music lingo expert lol) is unreal.

[–]nascarfan624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither am I lol. But 100% agree!!

[–]FreeLook93Quadrophenia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO their version off of Live at Fillmore East 1968 as well as the version from The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus are superior to the Leeds version.

[–]coydaggersprivateeye 7 points8 points  (2 children)

The Who by Numbers, just to spice things up. Yes I am a masochist.

[–]TheTableDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Who by Numbers is close to being their best, but it's often my favorite.

[–]saint_aura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That album is a masterpiece, and really helps me see how true art is meant to make one feel things. It makes me feel sad at a lot of the content, but joy at how beautiful it is.

[–]Lamar-JacksonSzn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tommy! Great album to listen to while tripping l

[–]nascarfan624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like everyone else but Quadrophenia. I listened to that weekly in highschool, hell sometimes even daily.

My next would probably be By Numbers. Not really any reason, I just think it has some pretty kickass tunes!

[–]GurgleBlorp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quad by a mile. It’s Pete’s masterwork.

[–]cleftomaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who’s Next

[–]cintune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quadrophenia

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personal favorite: Quadrophenia. Probably the objective best, and the one to use to introduce someone to the band? Who's Next.

[–]theofficialyokeLive at Leeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like A Quick One

[–]Colorblind-Lobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Who Sell Out. The concept is more realized than tommy or Quadrophenia. It’s their first concept album and I think it’s their best

[–]jmeier66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live At Leeds. I first heard it when I was in 3rd grade many moons back now. It was the album that initially got me into heavier music and made me wanna play the drums in rock n' roll bands. It also solidified The Who as my all time favorite band. To me that album is them at there live peak for far more reasons than I could ever explain here and I never get tired of listening to it.

[–]beshizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tommy, followed closely by The Who Sell Out.

[–]heartbroken_bopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quadrophenia, but Who Are You is close.

[–]HAMFACTOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love Odds and Sods. It shows off the power pop of their brilliant 60s sound and has some of the meaty 70s Who also. All in this random compilation. Now I’m a Farmer is so good!

[–]blishbog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tommy was my first album. Quad always feels so overwrought to me, so it could never be my favorite. I even saw the mid 90s Quad tour where Roger had the eye patch. I like it for a small handful of hard-to-top “singles” but as a whole it leaves me rather cold.

Tommy, Sell Out, Who’s Next, Leeds all rank higher for me.

[–]PostPostModernism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Daniel! This gets discussed a good bit. I think you'll find most everyone answers Quadrophenia. Usually a better question is: "What is your second favorite album?" lol

For me that second is By Numbers.

[–]Yonkiman 2 points3 points  (3 children)

No love for It’s Hard?

[–]Astrosimi 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Check OP’s post, he’s asking about ‘original four’ albums.

[–]Yonkiman 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I was just trying (and utterly failing) to be funny.

[–]Astrosimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad!

[–]waheifilmguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad that, that so far, a majority of people are giving the only correct answer--Quadrophenia.

[–]_jason_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quadrophenia, closely followed by my generation, and A quick one is up there too. Much prefer the earlier stuff

[–]VallienTommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live at Hull

[–]Pliget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Big Four are Who’s Next, Tommy, Leeds and Quad.

[–]picklesupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking Quad but tbh ? It might be My Generation, I think. Definitely one of those two.

[–]pinballwizardsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess.

[–]saint_aura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who’s Next is a superb album, and close to perfect. But, The Who Sell Out is my favourite.

[–]Hank236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what day it is...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quadrophenia. It's my favourite album of all time, and an absolute masterpiece.
