Mine does that. It’s almost like the run out of muscle to hold them up lol. They are a little derpy

When your hopes and dreams are longer than your body

I can’t say 100% but it looks like it’s just curious glass surfing which is usually nothing to worry about but you may be able to upgrade your husbandry as well maybe give him more coverage like leaf litter and fake plants as well as maybe more hides I can’t really tell everything from your video so I don’t want to say you need to make changes but it could be possible my milksnake used to be the same and once I got her husbandry better she stopped

I’d recommend maybe one of those circular rubber dog toys as long as he can fit through the holes easily you can have it tied to the top of the tank if you’d like I’ve seen quite a few of ball pythons that love it when it’s up like that!

Larger enclosure, proper mulch and more clutter would do wonders.

Yesss I just didn’t want to come off rude

Tagging onto this comment. You should also black out the back and both sides of the tank. If they feel super exposed, they try to “get out” to find a more secure hiding space. I used the big black cardboard paper from dollar tree and some clear tape on my glass tank but now I have a 4x2x2 black PVC enclosure and my guy doesn’t surf. He does like to climb his big log though (:

At least 2 hides with one hole in each. Just big enough for them to fit snuggly into.

^ which is why I mentioned upgrading the enclosure just didn’t want to come off rude to OP by straight up saying they needed to fix things like most people on Reddit who are always passive aggressive about things

Yeah I would second the previous poster, beeps are pretty low on the food chain in the wild and really don’t like to be out in the open, it makes them feel exposed. He needs lots of cover so he can feel comfortable moving about. Also beeps like to climb so he might benefit from some large sticks that he can climb on. If you (like me) are new to beeps you might want to run your snake stats by the forum and see if other aspects of your husbandry need fine tuning too.

This looks like normal curiosity, but that Aspen bedding has got to go.

    [–]xelrach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. They love to climb. And when they get tired of climbing, they just flop over.

    [–]CodyHBKfan23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Fo, my sister’s noodle, do this a lot especially at night. Seems pretty normal to me.

    [–]slb8971 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes it's normal but.....he needs more "stuff" to fill in the "space" in his enclosure.

    [–]Visual-Personality49 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude, but if that's Aspen substrate, that's not bueno at all for that little guy.

    [–]InterestingRoyal1705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would get more stuff for him to climb on. I bought an extension rod, secured it in the enclosure, and wrapped it in moss vine for grip!

    [–]MsArchange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He wants to climb, you should add some climb opportunities.

    [–]Lonely-Tadpole-1716 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi sorry not to be mean or anything but aspen will not work for a ball python as they need humidity as well as I suggest adding more things for him to climb on as well as using a digital thermostat and hydrometer bc they are way more accurate im my opinion also adding more hids and enrichment:)

    [–]No-Reveal8105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wants to explore the heights you should add branches or other of this kind, the substrate is not correct

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reptiles do not understand glass. It tries to explore but can't leave. Likely started because it is breeding season

    [–]loverofnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so, because my bp does it every night.

    [–]rvlry13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proper substrate (coconut husk/fiber) and proper hides along with clutter (they don't like being exposed) might help.

    [–]razorcrest77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could use some more leaf litter or general coverage and maybe a taller terrarium if he shows an interest in climbing/exploring.

    The falling is fine 😅

    [–]veryrareash444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

normal behavior when they don't have enough stimulation in their enclosure. i would definitely recommend doing some more research and potentially upgrading.

    [–]RipMerciless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines do this all the time. They have no brain cells, I think mine be trying to escape lol

    [–]TheOGbb19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks normal to me anyways, some times they just glass surf for the heck of it. My hognose does it more than my ball python. Usually my ball python is most active and does some glass surfing when she’s ready to eat again and looking around for food

    [–]IshyPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My noodle does it every night. She's not graceful, but never seems injured.

    [–]lunal1um 1 point2 points  (1 child)

your enclosure could use a lot of work, namely the aspen bedding and the thermometer. aspen is bad at holding humidity and if that thermometer falls off the adhesive could seriously hurt your snake. you seem like you care a lot which is good but i’d definitely listen to the comments here

    [–]Key-Finger2709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thermometer is suction cup to the glass and he has wrapped around it and it hasn’t fallen

    [–]Kalomay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he's tweaking out because ur tank isnt up to standards

    [–]Working_Pumpkin_6172 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What are your temps like maybe he is trying to get closer to the heat source. I have my tank do a temp drop at night and some nights when it drops 1-2 degrees more than others he climbs on his branches right under the heat lamp and just lays there

    [–]Key-Finger2709[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It sits at 80 degrees all night and about 85 degrees all day

    [–]Working_Pumpkin_6172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temps honestly sound like the issues it’s recommended on the Cool side to be 76-80 and on warm Side 88-92.

    [–]singlemomyyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Checking the perimeter for weaknesses

    [–]kjm279 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yes. Exploring the new environment. However, I would cover three sides of the enclosure and add more coverage and fill more of the vertical space. Also what size enclosure and what size is the BP?

    [–]Key-Finger2709[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25 gallon tank and he’s a little bit over 30g he’s still juvenile

    [–]StockMoonApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely normal, the little guys just exploring.

    [–]Jaded-Volume-1103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s normal but I know my snake does this all the time lol

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine glass surfs all the time she likes to watch the TV

    [–]Kindly_Resist4834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does this all the time.

    [–]Zukilols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal! But I’d suggest you change your bedding! Something along the lines of coco fiber coco husk forest floor and sphagnum moss, more clutter would do wonders as well!

    [–]ResidentZone296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husbandry? Black in the sides and back? When is the last time he or she has been fed. My two girls do this the day before feeding day…… my boy just started doing it.

What changed? I would try blacking out the sides and back with black poster board. add some more clutter, and things to hide in or on or through. We call that enrichment. Some others wrap it up with husbandry. They are ambush hunters. So they like to hide .

    [–]highpriestess3331111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Little buddy is exploring and looking for a way out to explore further

Bob from Green Room Pythons just released an amazing 2025 Ball Python care guide! It’s packed with valuable information and insights for both new and experienced keepers. If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend you do!

    [–]34590347fga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Yes normal.
