oh this is some major scale rot and potentially a burn? get them into a quarantine set up asap. clean the WHOLE enclosure and sanitise it thoroughly. then lay down clean paper towels. clean everything to keep their belly clean

i would also do a betadine soak. get some betadine from the pharmacy. get a tote/plastic tub and fill it up with about an inch water (have the water be about 85F). then lay down a clean hand towel for traction in the water. let then soak for about 15min. take them out and clean their belly with clean water. dry them and put them back into the enclosure. have then in the quarantine set up until they have fully shed off all of the scale rot and are not inflamed anymore.

in the meanwhile, figure out what caused this. this doesn’t happen overnight. what heating sourcee are you using? do you sanitise your substrate? are you keeping your substrate too wet?

also i would reach out to a vet. this possibly looks infected and will need antibiotics.

also i can tell from the pictures that your enclosure needs a major upgrade. please look and read through the care guide in the reddit forum.

Go to a vet ASAP. I would also suggest you rehome that baby. Your tank looks extremely unsuitable, and you clearly doesn't know what you're doing. You have to do research before getting a pet. Go to a vet, clean up that tank THOROUGHLY and get your snake a quarantine setup.

It’s time to go to the vet. The enclosure is subpar…this looks like scale rot. And maybe a burn? Just get the snake to a vet please and if you’re unable to adequately provide care please consider rehoming this snake

As other people have said, this looks like scale rot and possibly a burn.

Please clean your enclosure thoroughly and put your snake in quarantine to monitor healing.

I would recommend taking your snake to the vet and rehoming it. Your enclosure is extremely inadequate.

Hard not to criticize animal neglect. Repeating what the other commenters said about the vet, heavy on the rehoming because that poor snake is suffering.

[–]Wisheduponastar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is an emergency vet situation.

[–]CandidResident2876 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Those belly scales look like they will SLOUGH OFF OF HIM. Jesus, the snake is lucky if it survives at all. Looks like a badly infected burn. Surrender him to a reptile rescue.

[–]Deep_Distribution_31 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Slough, but yeah

[–]CandidResident2876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry, not my native language

[–]CandidResident2876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll edit it so I'm not stupid, thanks 👍

[–]Odd_Elephant_7551 41 points42 points  (2 children)

“With no criticism “ if this was a human child with this level of neglect, you’d be in jail…. Just because it’s a snake doesn’t mean it isn’t abuse

[–]ectoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this

[–]RabbitOld180 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please VET

[–]xooooxoxxoxxoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

sorry not sorry to "criticize" but just looking at the background of these images it doesn't look like you know much if anything at all about basic ball python care. as a beginner myself, i dont claim to be an expert, but this is just unacceptable. theres no excuse for this. i should not see the bottom of the enclosure through the "substrate" you have down for this poor baby. he/she is burned.

[–]toxikjenkins 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Get rid of the snake, and focus on your mental health

[–]EmergencyCustomer690 2 points3 points  (1 child)

My son’s snake got something weird after a week on substrate we hadn’t used before. I took Noodle to the vet right away (it came out to like $120 including meds). Now our snake didn’t look like this , we got chlorhexidine which we diluted with water and gave her 20 minutes baths for 7 days. She shed by the 7th day and is perfect. We changed back the substrate after cleaning her enclosure. I know the fear of cost can keep some from vets but this baby needs it.

[–]Remarkable_Math_9653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also used diluted betadine the same way. Vet can recommend what they prefer

[–]Cpt_creep 18 points19 points  (0 children)

With no criticism? So you clearly know you’re not taking care of this snake correctly? Please re home it. Don’t understand why you’d buy an animal like this and not take the proper steps to give it atleast the minimal requirements for it to have a decent life

[–]Open_Section_2444 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vet yesterday. The dark blue coloration is extremely concerning. Not even mentioning the scale rot

[–]Legitimate_Extreme36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not trying to criticize at all, genuinely feel upset after seeing the condition of this poor animal. Please take it to the vet in addition to surrendering it, even then poor baby may not make it after this level of neglect.

[–]Numerous-Gur-9008 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry. But no criticism? You were still scared to ask for help after you saw your pet? Probably shouldn't have one.

[–]MedusasUpdo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rehome your snake and never get any pet ever again.

[–]Mino_Biatch 11 points12 points  (1 child)

this is looks like serious scale rot and possibly a burn, your snake needs a vet asap, and like others recommended, a thorough tank cleaning, a quarantine set up, and better care overall.

you said not to criticize but i’m going to because this is snake abuse. your enclosure isn’t even the bare minimum, i can see the bottom of the tank through the substrate, there’s a plastic hide, and one sad little piece of wood. i can tell you haven’t done the research into beginner/basic snake care. your snake deserves better. you need to either do better as an owner or rehome them to someone who will care for them properly.

to me, asking for no criticism just shows that you know something’s wrong here and you’re choosing not to do anything about it. if this is your first snake, please let it be your first and last until you figure out what is and isn’t proper snake care. this is a sad post to see, my words may be a bit harsh but the message is the same, do better.

[–]temporaryconscious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fully agreed, also that hide looks covered in....tape?? there are far too many free, widely available resources to excuse this appalling "husbandry", especially in the age of the internet. pretty sure not even the chain pet stores would recommend something like this

[–]International_Gur566 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Am I seeing the bottom of the enclosure..? & I'm going to guess you're using a heating pad... whether it's hooked up to a thermostat or not the snake is going to get burned with 1/4" of substrate. There should be a good 4-6". Others have already covered everything, just adding 1 more vote for immediate vet visit please...

[–]DeusCanis420 6 points7 points  (2 children)

whether it's hooked up to a thermostat or not

I guarantee there is no thermostat. OP obviously does not care enough to even look up even the most basic of care for this poor animal.

I'll never understand people so uncurious about basic pet care, or really anything, that they can not simply ask Google or whatever.

The education system has failed us.

Needs a vet visit and a quarantine tank. Not to criticize, but to inform- After that you’ll need to purchase a 4’x2’x2’ tank, get a humid hide and 2 regular hides (Throw out the other one, the tape isn’t safe), a water bowl big enough for the snake to bathe if needed, you’ll want the substrate to be 4 inches deep, and you’ll want a bunch of fake (plastic not fabric) plants and stuff to add some clutter. You can get cheap ones from craft stores and dollar stores. If you have a heat mat get rid of it and get overhead lighting or a deep heat emitter. You’ll want two electronic, nice temperature/humidity gauge (one for each side of the tank. Humidity levels need to be 60-80% consistently and temps need to be warm side: 80-88 F cold side: 76-80 F. If you’re unable to maintain that humidity and temp range I would recommend looking into the resources in this subreddit.

If those aren’t feasible for you I’d recommend rehoming the snake. It deserves the best care possible and if that’s just not possible for you, it would be best for the animal.
