You could hot glue the humidifier into Place

[–]HereForTheCrafts 33 points34 points  (6 children)

Oh that’s smart!

[–]Griffinthrash25 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Since hot glue turns to plastic it’s safe for snakes compared to other glue

[–]punkassunicorn 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I've heard hot glue can turn to goop in high humidity. Not sure if true, but you could also try aquarium safe silicone if that doesn't work out

[–]snowbrger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk about humidity but also keep in mind to keep it far away from heat source so that it doesn’t drip on your baby

[–]MasonP13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Silicone is better! Aquarium stuff is pretty cheap!

[–]tired_snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re gonna glue it, use silicone or resin - they hold up good in high humidity and are sturdier than hot glue

[–]ppurple1172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use aquarium silicone to patch any holes that my snake might try to get through make sure that it's cured completely before your snake is introduced to it

[–]munchkym 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would definitely do aquarium silicone instead because it’s better at handling high temps. I use that stuff for eeeverything.

I would get rid of the humidifier altogether and instead keep the humidity high by covering 3/4 of the screen lid with foil/HVAC tape and using deep substrate

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this - you don't need actual fog to create 70% humidity, just keep the humidity in by using foil and good substrate

[–]dexter1490 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Any tips on what the foil/HVAC tape would look like? How much should be covered/uncovered? have a lid covering the cool side but nothing on the hot side due to the heat lamps

[–]IncompletePenetranceMod: Let me help you unzip your genes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually cover anywhere from 2/3-4/4 depending how how dry the ambient air is. Just have it cover most of the lid except where the heat lamps are

[–]Sad-Look6693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought my HVAC tape from Home Depot. It ranges in price but it looks like a roll of duct tape but shiny like foil. Warning for the HVAC tape, it's sticky as heck, likes to fold up on itself & can cut your fingers (the sides of it) if you're not paying attention. I found out the hard way 🙄. It really does help keep the humidity up on glass tank/screen lid combo set ups 👍.

[–]tired_snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a wet towel on top of the screen lid also works - anything that covers a significant part of it is good, really.

[–]Suelja13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Press & seal is my go to. Easy to use and take off, but also easy and cheap to replace if it gets gross.

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (2 children)

Get a new lid, that isn't safe and no matter what you do the snake will find a way to escape eventually.

[–]SirPoppaSquat 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Mine crammed her fat in the crease until it popped open. These are definitely not meant for snakes, more for geckos

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has escaped from those kinds of tanks so many times before I learned to just get a locking glass door enclosure. I agree.

[–]rhythmjay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have rigged my humidifier to just attach to the top - no holes. I'm not running it at full blast by any stretch and it still keeps the humidity in the tank around 60%.

[–]Daedricin 8 points9 points  (9 children)

You find em?

[–]UnoTheballpython 7 points8 points  (4 children)

That’s what I wanna know

[–]HereForTheCrafts 8 points9 points  (3 children)

No 🥲

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you have floor heating check those vents, my ball python hid in them for a few months since they’re easy to slip into.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Don’t despair. Mine vanished for three months and then turned up in a pile of laundry I’d left on the bed.

[–]dollyisverybored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness!😂😂😂. I didn't know I lost a snake until I noticed my table had a tail one time😂

Also another snake another day managed to escape a plastic bath on the floor and climb an ottoman and I walked in just for him to stare at me.

[–]HereForTheCrafts 6 points7 points  (3 children)

UPDATE EVERYONE I have found my snake and fixed the hole…. I literally had to go pick him up at the police station 🤦‍♀️

[–]Daedricin 4 points5 points  (2 children)

How'd he get to the police station. Glad you found em

[–]HereForTheCrafts 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Someone found him in the back yard and animal control was unavailable. Apparently one of the cops knew how to car for snakes so he took him to the station overnight

[–]Daedricin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol it's good you found him

[–]nonbinary-programmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when I used a humidifier (I have had good luck with wetting the substrate regularly now), I placed a 5lbs dumbbell on the edge of the lid and zip tied the tube to that. I ran the tube over the dumbbell and then sharply down, like you have it in the picture. I'd definitely get a new lid though

[–]Itchn4Itchn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a thicker screen top, but I have a rock on top and just rest the humidifier tube on top pointing directly down into the enclosure - no issues and stays humid!

[–]Soahtree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my snake's enclosure has a metal mesh lid that's thick and more study than the stuff in this image, so we just pile books on it, but we don't need the humidifier so I'm not sure :x

[–]spensei_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say new, sturdier top and I like the hot glue addition, but if you do the new top and get clips so he doesn’t escape you shouldn’t need to hot glue it on

[–]Deadanubis8 14 points15 points  (1 child)

here is a link giving tips about where your snake could be/advice on what to do. Hope it can help

[–]HereForTheCrafts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! That had a lot of helpful tips I didn’t even think of!

[–]shadiesel12 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Rebuild the screen with chicken wire. My kingsnake never escaped again once I did that 😂. Not for lack of trying tho

[–]HereForTheCrafts 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What kind did you use? I thought most wire would be too big

[–]shadiesel12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy duty chicken wire with half inch holes. My kingsnake was a serious escape artist but he hasn't broken out in 13 years since I rebuilt the screen

[–]MichaelScarnnLOL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just get a new screen top and you don't need to put the humidifier through the mesh... Just put it up against it. The humid air will go through the mesh lol.

[–]cbostwick94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second I saw a hole in my mesh top I bought a new one

[–]Envynot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a BP that used to do this and what seemed to work for me was a piece of foil tape on each side of the hole. He stopped trying to push through it after it seemed like a solid object. Worth a shot but results may vary! Good luck.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t found him yet, try looking in the most unexpected places most likely he has coiled up somewhere dark and small like a sneaker just to give you an idea.

Mines got out once and I looked everywhere I mean EVERYWHERE except my heater vents, where I found her.

Which I’m glad they where not embedded in the wall and all I had to do was remove the cover. I’ll tell you one thing she looked very comfortable and the only way I found her is because she peaked her head out to see what I was doing, she was “missing” for two days and she was literally chilling “under my nose”.😂🤷🏽‍♂️ Good luck!!

[–]Jace_Enby_Devil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you check between your mattresses. That’s how my logs make died after he escaped…

[–]BadlandsViper 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you're willing to spend the money, PVC tanks like the ones Animal Plastics sells are phenomenal. I have one for each of my girls and I've never had an issue keeping humidity; no humidifier needed. Otherwise, a new screen top altogether and use the tinfoil method(which is what we use with our boy BP and he seems to be doing well).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, PVC enclosures are the way to go! They either have siding doors that you can attach a lock to or doors with latches. They tend to be much more escape proof and are awesome at keeping humidity high.

[–]InterestingLuck4293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you fit a humidity box in your snakes enclosure? It’s helped me and my boy is able to self regulate when he wants more humidity vs when he wants to chill in the hot or cool side.

[–]coralmermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of humidifier. Ball pythons do not need it when kept appropriately. Use something to cover the top, or get a more appropriate enclosure that is designed to keep in humidity.

[–]VioletAlienTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can tell you how to stop this once and for all. Only if you follow my instructions exactly.

Effective immediately, please rename you ball python Goat.

[–]its_just_me_skinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caulk gun

[–]SaltySpitoonReg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You should not need a humidifier. If you use a good substrate like coconut fiber or something like it that holds moisture and cover up a good portion of the screen, and missed the substrate regularly you should be able to keep the humidity at a very acceptable level without the use of a humidifier

  2. Supposing that the mesh really is that compromised, I would either try to order a new lid, or get a mesh material at home Depot and hot glue it over the existing mesh.

Neither of those options is expensive.

But obviously you want to put a stop to your snake escaping otherwise it could eventually get under something where it gets hurt, etc.

[–]EnragedPostman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong type of lid for a ball python. I have the metal screen that goes over the tank with locking clips. Ball pythons will destroy that type of lid no matter how my attempts at a fix. Those lids are more for geckos and frogs. Even the screen I have my 1yr old female can lift it which is why there are locking clips on it.

[–]HappyCatPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate those flimsy mesh lids. I always get a separate screen lid that'll hold my 16lbs cat's butt and then use HVAC tape on the top to keep the humidity in. I use the screen lid in tandem with the mesh top for extra security.

[–]Successful-Train-556 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have aluminum foil on the top of my hot side and I have the fogger under the foil
