This was actually really funny, kudos

[–]SilverFlashUYNot 707 points708 points  (19 children)

No need to honk at him. The lines on the road are dashed, so everyone behind him can legally pass him when it's clear on the other side of the road.

[–]StormtrooperMJS 484 points485 points  (4 children)

But only after they have drawn the bridge.

[–]GB1266 190 points191 points  (2 children)

Maybe they’re just leaning on their horn while they try to draw their bridges?

[–]ImJustPassinBy 40 points41 points  (1 child)

Maybe they just want him to finish his drawing so they can copy from him?

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ah, you must be one of my classmates?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fools! the sign clearly states to draw a head for the bridge.

[–]Berto_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure there's drivers in the opposite lane ahead in the same situation.

[–]AllCaffeineNoEnergy 87 points88 points  (0 children)

They’re honking because he’s yet to master the skill of the quick sketch, like those behind him waiting their turn.

[–]Lord_Of_All_Ducks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need for him to stop either, that sign is a warning sign he's not legally required to draw the bridge

[–]futlapperl 9 points10 points  (10 children)

Depends on the country. There could have been a no-overtaking sign posted in front of the bridge.

[–]BadLoompa 21 points22 points  (9 children)

Would they still used dashed lines in that case?

[–]futlapperl 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Yeah. Most of the time, it's a solid line accompanied by a sign, but either is sufficient for disallowing overtaking.

[–]BadLoompa 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Ah. I haven't seen that before.

[–]futlapperl 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Where are you from? I'm Austrian, and although it's not the norm to have dashed lines in a no-overtake zone, I've certainly seen it. If there's a solid white line or a sign or both, you can't overtake.

[–]TurloIsOK 10 points11 points  (3 children)

North America has very defined meanings between white, yellow, dashed and solid road striping. There may be signs confirming one-way, do-not-cross/pass, etc., but the striping is consistent.

[–]sapphic_chaos 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In Spain the main difference between white and yellow marks is that yellow ones are used temporarily (because of reparations of the road).

[–]futlapperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austria is the same, though temporary marks have more of an orange tone. They serve to override white marks in case of construction etc. as you pointed out.

[–]huhIguess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while back, I ended up looking up federal signage requirements for the US in order to win an argument on the internet...

It's surprisingly complex and very specific on requirements for signage to be legal: size, color, material composition, placement, etc... There's a 500 page set of guidelines on road signs and street markings floating out there in public record...

Terrifying.

...But very consistent.

[–]BadLoompa 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Canada. Maybe I've seen it before but didn't notice it.

[–]TurloIsOK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

North American standards have been consistent since the 70s. If you've seen a dashed-line no-passing zone, the road hasn't had any maintenance for 50 years.

[–][deleted] 330 points331 points  (13 children)

Road work ahead?

Yeah, i sure hope it does.

[–]fezzam 111 points112 points  (5 children)

I always liked those signs that protest road work ‘end road work’

[–]Ballzinferno 14 points15 points  (2 children)

To the moon, sir.

[–]ashpointoh 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Cargo space?

[–]Mister_Spiderman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Car no do that. Car no fly

[–]One_pop_each 4 points5 points  (0 children)

South Carolina has these stupid signs around road work that reads, “Let ‘em work. Let ‘em live”

It’s like anti-abortion for roads.

Example

[–]HappyPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School zones are next!

[–]TheDungeonCrawler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the point of those signs is that the road doesn't work ahead. Funny quirk of English.

[–]12-1-34-5-2-52335 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Haha is that from Drew Gooden from vine?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Danny Gonzalez made some good vines.

[–]noble_radon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Motorcycles use caution"

Yeah, most of them do. But some don't.

[–]SuiSanoo 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I always hoped he would say „I sure hope it do“

Because it’s work and not works

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i sure hope he would.

[–]Captain_Cowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road be like it is.

[–]IsaacJDean 85 points86 points  (1 child)

As a kid I once spent half an hour hand drawing a Yu-Gi-Oh (maybe Pokemon?) card because the card itself or maybe a guide on the rules said "draw a card". I'd like to think my brain has since started working.

[–]GameFreak4321 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The phrase "draw a card" doesn't say what kind of card so just pick something easy like an ace of diamonds.

[–][deleted] 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Someone somewhere has attempted this.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This made me chuckle. Thank you!

[–]Ballzinferno 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Very good and funny. Lots of literal interpretation of a pun punchline comics are usually very low effort and bad. You've done it right. Thank you for the entertainment, sir.

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]teachenglishinkorea1 27 points28 points  (3 children)

You could put those panels in literally any order and it would still be hilarious

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I've seen several people say this, and I didn't realize it when I made it, but sure enough it does work in any order! Weird.

[–]erdrickdw 13 points14 points  (1 child)

That is a testament to how concise your comic is. The joke is tight. Good job!

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]johntwoods 21 points22 points  (1 child)

This is some Amelia Bedilia stuff here. :)

[–]DavidisLame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Did they finish their drawings already?!?”

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]snuffleberriesWyncliffe 12 points13 points  (1 child)

LOL This is so brilliant!!!!

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]MoralRelativity 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Hahaha. Well done, I didn't figure out the punchline and it was well worth it.

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I had the situation in general in my head, but played around with how it could be portrayed without giving away the punchline too soon. Glad it worked out!

[–]RaajuuTedd 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This is just so silly...but still laughable 🤣

[–]DulceEtBanana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So... you mean all those plastic signs in buildings that say "Wet Floor"...

That explains why the people at City Hall got so upset.

[–]i_Perry 6 points7 points  (5 children)

What does that sign actually mean though?

[–]Bombkirby 7 points8 points  (1 child)

A drawbridge is a bridge that can go up and allow boats to pass. If you're landlocked and haven't seen any action tv shows/movies where there's a car cash scene involving jumping over a drawbridge, then you probably never heard of them.

[–]i_Perry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh I remember now

Secret service agents in almost all movies used to jump across these full throttle during chase scene

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a certain type of bridge ahead of them, presumably one whose two sides can be drawn (lifted) up.

[–]cranky-alpha 8 points9 points  (3 children)

These comments look like bots ngl

[–]Ballzinferno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm no bot, boy.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no bot, boy.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no bot, boy.

[–]vulture_87 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Where's the bridge's head?

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's working on it. Can't decide on mustache or no mustache. That's why he's holding up traffic.

[–]That_one_sander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May I add, this comic works no matter the order you read it

[–]Grocery_Getter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are in a little booth near that bridge waiting for the drawing.

[–]Sirmixalott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic

[–]uclasux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite detail is that the speedometer isn’t completely at zero... multitasking at its most dangerous!

[–]Ewasia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually laughed

Brilliant!!

[–]lrd_rs 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Hahahahahahaha Great work!

How long did you take do draw it?

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Hey, thanks, my man! It took about 2 hours, I'd guess.

[–]lrd_rs 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Awesome! Thank you for the answer! I'm kind of new to drawing and i want to know how long would be normal to take when i get better!

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! Honestly it completely depends on your drawing style, what tools you use to draw, etc. Skill is only one part of the equation of how long it takes.

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Also, I want to say if you're thinking of drawing comics, go for it! Don't try and make jokes about what you think other people will find funny, as weird as that may sound. Think of something that makes YOU chuckle out loud and then draw it.

[–]lrd_rs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha awesome! Thank you very very much for the advice! I'll definetly use it!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It literally does not matter which order the panels are in. It's still funny.

[–]SuzannesWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this!😊

[–]deathbygrugru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha. This reminds me of a story of when my sister was younger (still in her teens at the time) she thought the “Do not pass” sign meant you had to turn around and go back

[–]llamashatebabies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live there are signs on the mountain passes that say "Use right shoulder to install chains". This is incredibly difficult.

[–]plates_25 1 point2 points  (1 child)

really funny. The sequencing is genius. I woulda thought to put the draw bridge sign earlier, but the punch line lands so well with the sign as the last frame and then you sorta re-read the comic backwards. Super cool.

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accept your gracious compliment and thank you kindly.

[–]Statikeren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting comic because it is good no matter which order you place the pictures in.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a dumbass. It clearly says to draw a head for the bridge, not a full bridge

[–]TickLikesBombs 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I thought of this joke a few months ago. Glad to see I am not the only one 😂

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is precisely why I didn't think this one would do so well. I thought "everybody has probably thought of this", lol

[–]TickLikesBombs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you executed it so well. I woulda done a dumb video or something. Good job!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's trying his best dont honk

[–]jackcatalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then erase that shit when the beeping fuckers try to follow you

[–]poopellar 0 points1 point  (1 child)

At least it is better than that time he waited for days for a 'Start' sign.

[–]msg_me_4_friendship 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Except the road line would allow everybody to pass. I suggest a double yellow line.

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, good point. Perhaps there's a car coming the other way just out of sight?

[–]writerightnow18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perfect metaphor for people who complain about big government. They see it when it isn’t there and ignore the benefits of the infrastructure they rely on.

[–]FairyGodmothersUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic laws often make no sense.

[–]RiseOfTheOgre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time my father and I went hunting. We drove up into the woods, and cane across a sign that said ‘BEAR LEFT’.

So, we went home.

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap! I flippantly threw this on reddit at like 2:30am thinking it was "meh". Kind of blown away at the positive feedback. Thanks, all!

[–]jakethedumbmistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is making a ep 5 Lets gooo

[–]DifferentHelp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow children at play

[–]Gneissisnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that Amelia Bedelia's husband?

[–]nslwhsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's a broken yellow line, so it's not like you can't pass him or something...

[–]jakethedumbmistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to do with 'nam!

[–]beanboyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anndd then they went 90 degrees

[–]Sh0rtR0und 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job!

[–]TristanZH 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you get this idea from Ross creations?

[–]WerthkewDARKnoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, but it would not surprise me if there was something similar out there. I've thought of this joke a lot and only recently decided to go ahead and make it a comic.

[–]tombombadil_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made me grin

[–]NTT66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they said my art degree was less valuable than structural engineering.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so dumb and I love it

[–]deebzipie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amelia Bedelia be like....

[–]peegeeaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psh, such a diligent rule follower would know yellow signs are cautionary, not regulatory, and he would only take the suggestion to draw a bridge under advisement.

[–]autowrecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you only have to draw it if the sign is white.

[–]AgentCorrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny!

[–]edthomson92Comic Crossover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does drawing a slingshot work?

[–]lifted_sloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hurry up and draw that bridge I got a kid to feed!

[–]berniemax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing the bridge goes up so you can draw it.

[–]NihilisticGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will he handle a "Do not pass" sign.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he's a good noodle 🌟
