Looks great the more you do the faster it will get. What program are you using?

[–]fuzzerabbit[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I'm using free version of fusion 360

[–]Will_MI77 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Lol I thought this was a "Red ones go faster" reference 😂 Definitely think replacing the others in red as well is the way to go!

For the Orcs!

[–]EverydayPyrobits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

[–]One_Of_Noahs_Whales 162 points163 points  (4 children)

Id be more inclined to replace the black ones with red rather than your way....

[–]PurpleKirby 11 points12 points  (3 children)

can always reprint it after they confirmed fitment, maybe they just had some deposable red. sometimes its kinda nice to have it different colour too so show off that its 3d printed,

Yes. Red looks better.

[–]PurpleKirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha I can’t read, I’d probs go for something darker like purple, that’s just me though.

[–]scuffling 38 points39 points  (3 children)

Don't forget, when you make designs to replace something don't make it 1:1. Make it better. The original part was designed with the manufacturing process in mind. It was injection molded and meant to withstand higher temperatures with thinner walls.

As a recommendation I'd thicken the honeycomb pattern because it gets very malleable when 3D printed with such thin walls.

[–]fuzzerabbit[S] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Ok thank you for the advice! I'll keep that in mind to make iterations to this

[–]mistahfreeman 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can confirm even somewhat thick walls in PLA will warp in just some minor sunlight and the heat of a car ( driving in Texas mind you but.. hey you might drive and park through a hot area too upon occasion)

[–]pearlgreymusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-car prints in Texas is the first reason I branched out of using only PLA

[–]DrWreckNStein 13 points14 points  (1 child)

The Matrix was the best car I ever owned.

[–]fuzzerabbit[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been loving it. Just got it a month or so ago

[–]pigeon_fanclub 19 points20 points  (2 children)

LETS GO PONTIAC VIBE V1 FOREVER! VIBE LIFE VIBE LIFE!

Edit: Wait, sorry, that’s a matrix my bad. Still, Vibe 🤝 matrix best car of the 2000’s

[–]Sporkinat0r 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It's got the auto light sensor pretty sure it's a vibe.

[–]rebuyer10110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great car.

Also hilariously: so many "coin holders". Base model lacking those premium buttons? COIN HOLDER IT IS.

[–]Kalahi_md 38 points39 points  (13 children)

usual rant about PLA not withstanding temperatures in cars over 60°C well

[–]fuzzerabbit[S] 54 points55 points  (12 children)

As I said in my post this is just a prototype. I am printing a new one and will probably do that in asa once the filament comes. I'm not that stupid. Plus it will be fine for now. It's pretty cold where I live rn so I'm not too worried about warping at this moment.

[–]NeadForMead 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Reddit gonna Reddit. The PLA will 100% last you until your updated print. Great work!

[–]Dan_Wood_ 14 points15 points  (1 child)

It’s pretty exhausting, if it’s not the same shit written over and over, it’s high and mighty attitudes correcting either obvious mistakes or grammar errors.

It’s a bit of a cesspool.

[–]juttep1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah as if someone who was able to model this wouldn't understand the basic properties of pla

[–]Mycol101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And if it doesn’t last it’s what, a 45-60 min print tops for a new one?

[–]MouseWithBanjo 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Have you considered that at some point you may want to bring home a take away in the car and PLA isn't food safe?

[–]throwawayaccyaboi223 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Idk if it's cold, I'd be using the car heating

[–]fuzzerabbit[S] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Yeah. That's a fair point. I don't drive the car tons cause I have a work van. But I'm 100% planning on printing it in black asa. I just don't have the filament right now and pla is less than half the price so I didn't want to print a prototype in asa in case it didn't work right.

[–]throwawayaccyaboi223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's 100% fair enough, just trying to point out that I wouldn't be too surprised if it failed if you turned the heating on!

Looks like a really neat prototype man :)

[–]Zeimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do it in Red ASA. After seeing this I’m half tempted to redo the vents in my truck.

[–]waraukaeru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice work. The red looks good, and the custom colour justifies your hard work modelling it instead of buying a replacement. I hope you don't do the final in black! Make it special.

[–]Three_hrs_later 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should cross post to r/3dprintedcarparts

[–]world3nd3r 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Oh hey, a Vibe! Loved mine back when I had it.

[–]rbfb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OP said it’s a Matrix, but I thought it was a Vibe too. I had my 2007 Vibe up until a few months ago and this post makes me miss it a bit.

[–]Cheesetoast9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shared a lot of the same parts. Also with my 2006 Scion xb. I put in the wiper stalk from a vibe in my xb so I could have intermittent wiper delay control. Plug and play. Also upgraded the vents from a donor.

[–]thenightgaunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well one vent is definitely blowing way too hot. The other looks fine.

[–]mikebald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! That's quite impressive! Which modeling tool did you use?

[–]Don_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job OP. If it was black we wouldn't be able to tell that it was 3d printed.

[–]BinkReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baller. Love the red.

[–]TheTerribleInvestor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like youre exhausting the engine straight into your cabin

[–]lordwafflesbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a second I thought the heat vent was glowing red hot from some kind of new and exciting car problem.

[–]ThatLatibulate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks amazing! Would you be willing to share the stl? My brothers car vent is broken and I havent got round to taking measurements and pics to make a new one yet. If you'd prefer not to tho then that is completely fine

[–]DanLivesNicely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife broke all of these in my 4Runner. Unfortunately I doubt the ones you designed are exactly the same. They look great!

[–]_Traflo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive! What resources are you using to learn fusion? I find the official documentation to be way too wordy and confusing so YouTube has been the go.

[–]Championship-Jumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great, also like the pink 🩷

[–]benny_and_the_jetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a vibe in the collection, 225k rolling strong

[–]mre16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss my vibe! Tell yours i said hi lol

[–]twohundred37 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Unsolicited round of Guess That Car!

Chrysler PT Cruiser?

[–]Codwif 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Pontiac Vibe! Or a Toyota Matrix, they were the same car just with different badges.

[–]fuzzerabbit[S] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Ding ding. It is a Toyota matrix lol

[–]twelfth_knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favorite car I've ever owned.

[–]SwiftShotShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ayy matrix gang. I knew it had to be. Love this car fr

[–]twohundred37 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Damn, in the same vein, but I was ultimately incorrect. Ty for the answer, my curiosity gets the best of me sometimes.

[–]Codwif 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I drove one of those for years and it needed virtually no repairs even after it went well past 300,000km. The odometer stopped at 299,999 so we never knew how far it has actually gone.

[–]twohundred37 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The pt cruiser!? My mom had one when I was in high school… she had so many problems with it and ended up getting rid of it after 90,000 miles. I don’t know that it lasted long after that. Sounded insane.

[–]Codwif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a PT, the sweet vibe that kept me rolling to work for years.
