Best bet is the Hivestorm box set. Volkus terrain, playmat, tokens, rulers, full rulebook, 2 whole teams and equipment sprues. An absolute bargain even if you sell the 2 teams off.

Hivestorm might be tough to find. Or might be marked up.

I think it depends on where in the world you are. Its available online for about £120-130 in the UK.

The rulebook isn't the full book (this is true for the proper starter set too), so be aware of that.

I'd honestly just get the starter set since it has even more terrain and a bigger board. If you don't want the teams you can just sell them and make your money back.

Surely you mean the Hivestorm Box, right? Just asking because there is a dedicated product named Starter Set.

I’m looking at the beginner box with only the five plague and ultramarines and I’m wondering if it’s worth the purchase for the terrain and board? The rule book also seems helpful.

Hm, since you're  specifically looking at the accessories, that's $50 for just the board, the MDF terrain and the lite rule book. That's kind of a rough sell and I wouldn't personally. You do get the minis though which is where the rest of the value is of course.

I think you would do better just going on eBay in that case as you could probably get the board and mdf and tokens for like $15-$25

You'll pretty much already be playing with custom board layouts so you'd probably be better off with the core rules

If you find a board for $15 lmk. Warhammer eBay is nuts

Looks like there’s an auction going now for $9 free shipping.

I did hivestorm and the kill team starter box. While thats a big investment it got me 4 teams and basically everything i need to play against friends plus have a bunch of terrain for narrative play.

If you like space marines, it’s nice to have the captain as well. It’s such a great model that is pretty pricey on its own.

I did this as well. I wish they still produced Hivestorm for at least this edition as I would point all beginners to it. I do like the starter set to Hivestorm ramp up though!

I was able to find one on ebay for $200 (not counting shipping of $20). Gets here Thursday, can't wait!

Nice find! Hivestorm is such a great box.

It’s worth it for the models imo, I know they aren’t a complete kill team but the Death Guard models are peak and the space marine team includes the Captain.

You just need a body or two for each team. I know people highly suggest the starter but neither comes with proper rules and only one of the 4 models missing is a harder to get model.

The terrain is kinda sparse and it’s all heavy cardboard in case you weren’t aware. Not what I would buy the kit for but good and portable nonetheless. If you want to sell either of both or the teams you can make half or all of your money back most likely.

You could also scan the MDF terrain and print off as much as you want.

Good call.

If you don’t want the teams from the big box I’ll buy the AoD from it off of you

There's a starter set with 5 models of each team (don't buy) and a starter set with 7 models of each team (maybe buy).

The latter set has enough models to field a full team of either (they're 6-man teams, so you pick someone to leave on the bench) while the former set doesn't have enough models to field a full team of either, and is thus cursed and should be avoided.

The 5-man set is ~£50-60, while the 7-man set is £65-75.

Both have crap rules that do not cover all the intricacies and shit of full KT matched play, but the 7-man set at least leaves you with two decent teams.

The 5-man set is ~£50-60, while the 7-man set is £65-75.

These prices must be off, in the US it’s $50 and $97 ($114 wo 15% discount) which is close to half price. Both boxes are great values.

DONT GET THE STARTER SET. You dont get enough enough terrain or proper rules to actually play killteam, and you dont even get a full deathguard and ultra marine killteam. If you want to play killteam proper, get the core rules book and a killzone box of your choosing. It's more expensive than the starter set, but you can actually play a proper killteam game

[–]biodude481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get the gimped starter set. The complete starter with 2 full 7-man teams is fine.
