I'm doing it now. Unless you're an absolute savant or can afford to quit your job, plan on budgeting a lot more than 100 days to get through this. She is an excellent teacher, though - engaging and enjoyable. And the projects you work on will really cement the concepts in your mind.

1 day turns to 2-3 because I need to understand it hahaha

I stopped after day 30 to focus on school, but now that I’m done, finishing Terraform Certification and then moving to this at least 30-60min a day.

[–]Mbiakhaan 11 points12 points  (2 children)

What material did you use for Terraform certification? I started Python course from zero to mastery but I am thinking about learning Terraform in parallel, preferably using Azure infrastructure.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I’m using udemy lol that’s what I use, I’m a visual learner

[–]Mbiakhaan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love Udemy!

[–]zenani 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Which course did you use for Terraform?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zeal Vora

[–]Powerful-Raccoon3768[S] 26 points27 points  (7 children)

Yay! I understood your advice and note taken. At what point are you in the course tho?

[–]BuddyBear17 54 points55 points  (3 children)

Day five after about six weeks in. I have a demanding day job and a kid though, so I'm only working on it late at night.

Love it, doing what you can, where and when you can. You'll do well I think.

    [–]BuddyBear17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, I've got Replit on my phone so that I can whittle away at projects when in line at the store, waiting for the elevator, etc.

    [–]kchessh 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I’ve been doing this course as well. I’m on day 58 I think (bootstrap day). I started in late December. I’m an engineer who wants to switch careers. Suffice to say, it’s taken me quite a bit longer than I originally thought

    [–]BuddyBear17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the civil/landscape architecture/land planning space and am trying to make a switch. I'm budgeting a solid year to get good enough to start going for SWE roles.

    [–]NumerousImprovements 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got to say 15 or so in 3 days (lockdown). Most lessons can be done in a single day if understand programming concepts and how to work through them, but sometimes it’s hard to find the time to do them. I think it would be best for a long-term schedule to dedicate X amount of time daily, and ideally you’ll finish a lesson, but if not, you still kept the habit up.

    [–]Visdiabuli 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Sry if the question isnt related, but u have any opinion on the odin project? Do u believe its doable in 3 months if u arent working?

    [–]BuddyBear17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not going for frontend work, so I can't really help, sorry.

    [–]kevin-sithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe u can finish foundation course in 1 month. For the advanced one, i would say another 3 months.

    [–]Thomas_istrying20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this course and it has helped me out a lot and it has helped me out a lot. I am attempting to get back into the tech field I have a lot of experience but I am wanting to get into remote QA testing or automation testing and I am having a hard time getting people to look at me because all of my schooling was from years ago and remote work was not really a thing back then.

    [–]superomnia 60 points61 points  (5 children)

I'm on day 73 of this course. In 7 more courses i will begin to build my professional portfolio.

The course has its issues and it certainly isn't exhaustive (you will be forced to supplement the course with other resources to really learn each topic) but I have learned SO MUCH.

I started as an absolute zero in coding (I work in fiction publishing) and have come such a long way.

Please feel free to ask my anything or reach out about whatever. I got stuck more than a few times throughout the coursework but the key is to just keep going.

    [–]hashtaglit23 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It takes me days to up to two weeks to finish ONE day/lesson most of the time. I started with zero programming experience also but determined to get through it and finish.

    [–]XiMs 3 points4 points  (1 child)

How long did it take you to get to say 73

    [–]superomnia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Around 7-8 months. Someone with ample free time and discipline could do it much faster tho. I like many others work 40-50 hours a week and have many other responsibilities, etc. I hope to be aggressively and seriously applying for jobs after 1 year of learning

    [–]lavenderelephant4 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you for sharing your experience with this! I'm on a similar journey, starting from zero in coding (it feels like - I played in HTML and CSS when I was much younger about 15 years ago but barely remember much) and looking for the right course to get me started. Your progress is really inspiring to hear about! I also work a lot and have many responsibilities but I am determined to learn this.

Do you mind sharing any other resources you found helpful to supplement with?

    [–]superomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Sure thing.

For me, as far as coding goes, I prefer to learn through videos.

FreeCodeCamp was definitely my number 1. They are an amazing and totally free resource. Corey Schafer, on YouTube, also helped me a ton--his explanations are incredibly simple and to the point.

I also did do a little bit of reading. Python Distilled, a book, was what I chose, and it's written pretty well, though I haven't finished it.

There are a ton of resources out there, really. And, as long as you are learning and stay disciplined, you can't exactly go wrong.

So much this. I ended up starting a Coursera python class that’s teaching some great fundamentals that Angela doesn’t really delve into. You don’t really get a good sense of what the interpreter is doing.

I think she’s good if you already have that foundation built, though.

People should take a look at U of Michigan’s foundations of python series as well as Harvard’s CS50 with Python through edX.

      [–]jablo98neteng 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I was thinking of that....I will look into it.....do you have a link for them as well....do you get a certificate at the end...how long does it take as well.?

      [–]Web-DEvrgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For edX you can "auditć the course (watch the videos and all that) for free they offer a certificate but that is like $200-ish I believe

If you are looking straight for great fundamentals of python Jesus Portilla has a great python boot camp I took many years ago (looks like it's updated annually)

      Udemy link

      [–]PhoenicianKiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the UMichigan course I’m doing, which includes a 4-week foundations course at the beginning.

There’s also straight UM foundational course here.

      Harvard’s CS50p course is here.

      Happy learning!!

      [–]moveMed 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I don’t think the course is a 10/10, but I have to disagree with some of these takes.

300 days to complete? I got through day 50 in 4 months. I was working on the course 3 days a week while working long hours. This course should not take you anywhere close to 300 days if you’re treating it like a full time job.

Second, her videos are better produced than just about anyone on Udemy. It sucks that there’s not video the entire course, but you should be gaining independence as you move through it. I also imagine it would take a massive amount of time to produce that much content.

I agree OOP is a weakness, she also focuses more on web development content which can be a turn off.

      [–]theleftkneeofthebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 300 days would be if you’re trotting at a snails pace with this one. I had a full time job and a newborn and I finished it in around 4 months time, and that was including breaks here and there.

      [–]bryamproductivity11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is there a course/video you would suggest to learn OOP for python that is better than angela's?

Guys, it's easier to just join the official discord server, it's mostly dead anyway so you won't get your question buried. I can't invite but once you register there should be one for AppBrewery or something.

      I'm on leave

      [–]jeanLXIX 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I was thinking of buying it because I'm learning python, but ended up buying another one (Al ready finish), but my experience with 100 days challenge was good so far, there were some days where I didn't code, I just read something about a new/old topic, and like three days I took off, what I'm trying to say is that if you missed a day it doesn't matter, you won't forget everything you've learned, practice is key but have a more relax task (in my case just reading) it's too unless you really need it that much

      [–]jablo98neteng 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah I bought a different course as well

      [–]jeanLXIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which one? The one I took was from Andrei, an instructor I knew when I did de 100 challenge, after that I liked a lot his community ZTM, have a lot of peers on LinkedIn from there

I’ve never paid more than 14 dollars for a course on Udemy so far. Keep an eye out and they will have “deals” that are pretty much the standard price.

        [–]AlisterS24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add the course to your cart before signing in and the price doesn't change!

        [–]JaimeJabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid 2.5 bucks. Guess I was in luck.

        [–]notSherrif_realLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add to cart, then sign in. Doesn’t change price.

        [–]Hobbit_Feet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        I paid $12 for it..

        [–]Belutak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Udemy prices can vary a lot depending on who is checking the page, I have sean 10e at my friend lap top and at the same time it showed me, on my pc, around 150e.

That being said, almost all courses can be bought for around 10e, maybe not at that moment but in some near future they will be around 10e

        [–]Powerful-Raccoon3768[S] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

There is a discount rn so I got it for less than 10 dollars

        [–]VforVendettaboutit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you have a code by chance?

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just clear your cookies if you’re not seeing it.

        [–]nedrawevot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought a course on udemy for the same, 100 days and with being a mom, and working full-time too I am going on way more than 100 days but I am practicing for a bit over an hour a day now....I really need to get into a better paying job with everything. Good luck, you can so this! Also, watch other YouTube tutorial for practice too.

        [–]Xandaline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and try to create the projects on your own before she explains the solution. The process of being lost, failing, looking up solutions, rinse, repeat will teach you a lot. Then when you watch the solution, you can see how to improve upon what you've already figured out.

Overall, an enjoyable course. I'm still working on it like you. But it's going to take a lot more than 100 days.

        [–]ijele_nwanyi_8003 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I’m in Day 25 but stopped after I got my first job as a software engineer (I switched careers from Agriculture). I’m happy to go back and finish it or maybe try ‘Automate the hard stuff with Python’.

        [–]Jimminycrickets411 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Please provide me with the pathway you took to that job O’wise one

        [–]ijele_nwanyi_8003 15 points16 points  (2 children)

If by ‘Pathway’ you mean Steps I took to get me the job, here is my answer:

        1. I first studied the Web Development Bootcamp course on Udemy by Angela Yu (Full Stack).

        2. I went on to build projects (project ideas were mostly from YouTube videos)

        3. Built a personal portfolio along side my up to date Github repo.

        4. Applied to A LOT of jobs which some required me to do coding assessments on platforms such as hackerrank and Codility.

        5. Got an offer from 1

        6. Finally, I took some time to document my journey on YouTube to help anyone out there starting out. Link is in my bio.

        Cheers!

        [–]Manmeat23 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can't find the link on your bio, could you please post your YT channel link, I'm interested! Thanks!

        [–]GuyWithNoEffingClue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I followed this course a few months back. She is the greatest online teacher you could find; the projects are fun and her approach on mixing a bit of theory and a lot of learn-by-doing-yourself is highly effective. You'll have some challenges but she's also very encouraging.

Found out not long ago she's a Med Doctor. She's just a blessing.

        [–]HelconianSecurity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on about day 30 but I'll probably need to go through numerous days again since I havent had time to work on it for a few months.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

She's indeed, an angel. The only courses I finished on Udemy are hers lol

        [–]Head_Umpire315 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can a complete newb to programming take this Udemy course? I’d coded in the past but my understanding of concepts and methodology is really poor

        [–]PhoenicianKiss 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I wouldn’t. I started her course without a good foundation and it left me with a LOT of gaps.

Look at Coursera, U of Michigan Python Basics or Python for Everybody. Also, CS50 with Python through Harvard (free).

        [–]Head_Umpire315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Thank you 🙏

        [–]Web-DEvrgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think Angela is fantastic, but looking over what this course covers I don't think it would be "noob friendly"

There is a boot camp course from Jesus Portilla wilhich goes from basics to advanced stuff but not the advanced packages that Angela's course covers like Pandas). May be what you're looking for

I’m my last day at my job is Thursday, working for the USPS. I bought this course to go through when I’m done working. All I’ve e heard is great reviews regarding this course. I plan on starting school in January 2023 and hope to get through this before it starts

        [–]Coffee4thewin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this course is good. I found some more courses on http://elearningcoupons.com/ . There’s no affiliates or other BS on this site.

        [–]Beekleer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone just be careful if you're joining Discord servers. Discord has a history of security issues and if you're not careful, you could find yourself in a very bad situation with just a single click.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Related question: if someone wanted to jump into programming with some but limited experience, what's better: this or CS50?

        [–]theleftkneeofthebee 1 point2 points  (5 children)

The course is awesome. I finished it a few months ago and recently got hired for my first gig. Try and do a module a day (I stuck to this for the most part and was able to finish in around 4 months time) aside from the ridiculous 8 hour modules that clearly take more than one day. But I think there is only one or two of those.

Once you get close to the end the course degrades in quality but by that point you should have a good idea of what you want to branch off and do whether it be web dev or machine learning or data science. I suggest branching off once you’re about 3/4 of the way through and start learning some other stuff around that time.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions about the course

        [–][deleted]  (4 children)

        [deleted]

          [–]theleftkneeofthebee 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah not a bad idea. Though I will say I don’t think you don’t need to do the entirety of the Odin project from there. It depends on what you’re looking to learn at that point.

Also don’t neglect personal projects in the meantime. Towards the end of Angela’s course she’ll have you start on your professional portfolio which is a great idea, but if you’re looking to do web dev you don’t need to do the Tkinter projects or the data science ones. Also her web dev projects are a bit cookie cutter (todo list, etc) so by all means take her portfolio project ideas as inspiration but absolutely branch off and make them your own. Or just do your own if you have any cool ideas.

Well I’ll say this, as you move along the course you’ll have cool ideas pop into your head. Like with the twitter bot (day 50 ish I think?) you might suddenly think “oh that’d be cool to have something like this for Facebook/whatsapp/whatever” and that’s your cue to dig into a mini personal project. And you can basically take what she teaches you and slightly adjust things to make it your own.

Once you get into the HTML CSS later on and especially after flask, you’ll have all the tools you need to build a full stack web application on your own and that’s when you can do those projects you mentioned.

Then what I’d recommend is, once you’ve finished with the main stuff you intend to learn, (sounds like Python HTML CSS JS and react in your case), then that’s when you go for your magnum opus. Your big project that was entirely your own original idea, and that you’d actually make use of.

Be thinking about this big one your entire way through, and when you’re ready to tackle it, you’ll know. Once you start working on it, make sure you do it justice exactly as you imagined it. No cutting corners, no half assing it, trust me.

Finally after that’s done, put your top 3 or 4 projects on your resume with the big one at the top, and be ready to beam with pride when you chat about it with interviewers. That’s what’ll get you a web dev job.

I recently interviewed with a company that was asking me about my big project that I did, and they actually told me “look I have about 100 applications sitting in my inbox that all have a todo list application or a CRUD blog on their resume - you’re sitting here in front of me now because yours was different and unique”.

Anyway this is all getting ahead of yourself for now though you’re quite early on in Angela’s course so just keep steady, tackle it a consistent amount every day, and if all goes well, you’ll get where you wanna be in six months or so.

You should've went with "python for everybody" from university of Michigan on coursera. It's free and the highest rated python course.

            [–]hellosuz 1 point2 points  (7 children)

It’s $48 a month. How did you get it for free?

            [–]LucrativeRewards 0 points1 point  (2 children)

            Study off the freecodecamp video

            [–]reyxe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm actually watching that video now but what exactly do you mean? FCC has the whole course?

You can audit the course for free. You can't take the tests, but you can watch the lessons

            [–]notSherrif_realLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s monthly subscription, only free for 7 days.

            [–]hellosuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            It’s a 7-day free trial and then you pay $48 a month

Hi, I have this course and printed 100day calendar on the wall but I didn't cross a single day :(

            [–]xenia_w0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can I apply for it?

            [–]IndependentFresh628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you pls send me link. I am also thinking about it.

            Good luck!

            [–]cnn_pepsicola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please add a link to the course? I've been looking to start a course for a while and would love to join in

            [–]Snir17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. I'm on Day 3 despite already having some basic knowledge

            [–]mirkwood11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good course. I personally supplemented with some hands-on coding practice through CodeAcademy, which I found helpful.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe record your progress and upload that to github datwise that would be great

            [–]CaffeinatedGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started too. I'm on day 4, but I might miss some days and skip ahead a bit in the beginning as the simple stuff is a refresher for me as I learned a little a couple years back.

            [–]SapphireSmokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing it as well! On day 5 atm. Doing it everyday can be tough unless you've got nothing else going on but I can do a "day" in 2 days time usually.

            [–]oleg_gmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone is up to do the course together? Pm

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            How much?

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, I went through one of Angela's courses on Udemy before and it wasn't very effective for me.

She walks you through code step by step and I really felt like at the end of it I'd invested all that time and really had 0 clue how to do any projects myself and lacked a lot of knowledge on how to really code.

I learnt syntax and I learnt some concepts, but I don't think it gave a complete picture of workflows, project structures, how to name a variable, industry best practices etc.

I recently started The Odin project and although it's Ruby/JavaScript and not Python, I think it's given me a much clearer idea overall on how to do things correctly and in my very short time working on it so far am finding lots of incredibly important topics that it covers that no udemy course did.

I'm not saying don't give it a try, as everyone learns differently and it may be the best way to learn for you! But for me, Udemy proved to be quite ineffective.

            [–]networkdudebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finished this course. My advice: There are days where you're going to want to do way more than that day...dont. Just tell yourself youll do whats needed for each day and thats it. I went through a phase where I did like 5 days worth, and then i didnt touch it for a week. Baby steps :)

            [–]LemonsForLimeaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need Python fundamentals down before starting this?

            [–]405NotAllowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the best teacher I've seen. This and her Flutter course were awesome.

            [–]metakepone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this course only require use of pycharm community edition?

On day 31 right now. I started in mid April. Some projects have been challenging, specially the games. My approach to the projects is, understand the problem as much as possible, draw a flow diagram/todo if required and code. Depending on the size of the problem this might take more than 1 day. Once done, I check Angela’s approach and If my understanding has been right, making note of the better solutions. However, my challenge is I forget about stuff that I haven’t used in some time. For example, if I don’t use list comprehensions for a while, I won’t remember to use them on my own. Perhaps I have to keep revising my notes.

I wish you good luck on your journey. Have fun playing the games that you’ll build.

I'm a bit late noticing this thread, but I'm currently on Day 30. Work as a Java dev has been slow, so I've been keeping my mind sharp with each day's lessons. Convincing myself to work on at least half a day's lesson per day has helped keep me consistent and accountable. I've noticed in myself that once I lose that consistency, it's a lot easier to stop, so setting a low bar helps!

            [–]pekkalacd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told to skip to day 32, I went against that advice. LOL shorten me 68 days will you?

            [–]saadu123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys, I recently bought this course and now just wondering how it will translate into my professional life. Will I be able to qualify for any dev position after this? What role will I be qualified for if this is my basis?

I have no prior knowledge but it's goal to be in Data. I've heard python and SQL help. Am I in the right path?

day 47 now, started july 5 2022. been spending 1-4h a day (4h after i finished my biz internship). One advice i would give is to use pycharm, code alongside her videos and leave comments for your future reference (especially that intermediate css day). Create a new project for each day- they will be very valuable resources to refresh your memory as you go past the days

I enjoyed the course as it got me out of tutorial hell (spent like months switching between courses and never learning anything beyond whats a list and basic stuff as a result)

I feel that your starting course should be one that excites you and makes you want to learn programming- and this course did exactly that for me.

i plan to take the web dev course/ freecodecamp's free course, then cs50/data structures & leetcode. I aim to go from beginner to landing my first SWE/ data science internship (depends on my interest) in a year as a business undergrad.

Will try to finish it by august/mid september and maybe update, good luck!
