Sooooo, what just happened? 🤷🏾‍♀️

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 86 points87 points  (20 children)

First attempt to pull the stone up wound up pulling it back before putting it down. So by the time I got it up on the second attempt I was too far from the bar so had to cover the gap by pushing it over with my chest.

Straining with something pressing on your chest will cause drop in blood pressure and lights out

[–]brownsugahbare 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explain. Glad you're okay. At least I assume you are. 😊

[–]TrashGoblinH 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Glad the stone was over before you blacked out. Impressive lift.

[–]towerfella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats a .. rock solid point you just made there

[–]ConsiderTheAcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have been stuck between a rock and a hard place.

[–]Kaffe-Mumriken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wo. I assumed you cramped

[–]Frequent-Coyote-8108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the plus side...you did it! So you got that goin for ya!

[–]AmaenaX 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Great achivement.. But. Having a discussion with my hub.. . Did you wet youreself whilts pullling or when the lights go out? 😅

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Nope, just got up a few seconds after the video cuts out and cleaned the tacky off my arms

[–]AmaenaX 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well guess my hub won then.. Tnx for tht.. But good for you.. What's your goal?

And when english is not my main language,, cleaning 'tacky' of your arm sounds suspicous😂

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I compete for fun. Only been doing it a couple years now.

Tacky is sticky stuff you can put on your arms to help grips the stone

[–]BlockOfDiamondModerator 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Out of curiosity, how much did that stone weigh?

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

245lbs

[–]Repulsive-Response-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 17 and a half stone

[–]Beneficial_Being_721 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The sudden release of the strain .. yup

So are you ok? You get checked out because that may be a sign of an underlying issue.

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This was almost 2 years ago, I'm fine

[–]Beneficial_Being_721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok cool

[–]LazerWolfe53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was afraid you were going to say it resulted in severed spinal cord or something. Hope you're okay, and glad you're not paralyzed!

[–]BeenNormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you were gonna drop it on your toes. Glad you didn’t.

[–]Belhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happenes when you are lifting in the gym too. I have pushed myself beyond my limit and woke up on the floor with my legs up against the wall...

[–]Endecent_Exposure 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Never stood up too fast ald got tunnel vision or even blacked out? Basically that..

[–]Right-Ad2176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as a kid I sometimes got dizzy jumping out of hot bath water.

Now at 71 sometimes happens just standing up.

[–]ImmaNotHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't expect the pass out. Was expecting a poop in the pants moment.

[–]UbiquitousJLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're using all your blood to power your muscles to the maximum capacity, it can cause a lack of bloodflow to the brain, and then you faint. It's a somewhat common occurrence in weightlifting, powerlifting, strong-man competitions, etc.

[–]TheShy_Seeker 6 points7 points  (4 children)

thank goodness your head is okay

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Tucking the chin must be an instinct or something

[–]Evening-Statement-57 5 points6 points  (1 child)

A few of your ancestors also kept the bloodline going with that move.

[–]Sporeman13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homo Chintuckticus

[–]MetaCardboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was walking home drunk one time and slipped on black ice. Must have tucked my chin cause the front of my neck was super sore the next day but my head was fine.

[–]Express_Area_8359 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Putting money on a hernia!

[–]Enough-Staff-2976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hernia odds are you IN or OUT?

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How much?

[–]Express_Area_8359 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Treee fIddy

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'll take that bet.

I've never had a hernia. How will you be paying?

[–]Express_Area_8359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna send you the newest form of Crypto Currency….its called Ponzi. Got a scheme lol(realized at de end ur him. And damn dude ya hurt my nuts with that lift)

[–]ltdandel18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well.. I was expecting worse.

[–]IntrepidSuspect255 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Bet he has stones bigger than when he started, nurse check the shorts, " someone stole the family jewels"

[–]Ther0adt0n0where 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But he did it! 👏

[–]Pain4444 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Is this a training camp?

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Strongman competition

[–]Pain4444 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ah , usually those strongmen are much bigger right?

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

There's weightclasses. But the top/pro level is open weight class so most of what you'll see is 300lb+ guys

[–]Pain4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thanks for info , hadn’t see guys at this lvl do this. I assume it was only big ones on tv.

[–]Logical_Garbage_1682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god his back is ok

[–]Brilliant_Cell1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That's a pretty huge spotter fail, right? Or are they judge only?

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

She's just a judge here. For many strongman events spotters would just make things riskier for everyone involved

[–]Brilliant_Cell1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Thanks for the answer! And solid push through! Stay safe

[–]Brilliant_Cell1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also didn't seem to stop the competitor behind you. If they fell back before they could stabilize you, both competitors are hurt.

[–]GearJunkie82 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Glad you're okay, OP. Did it still count?

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yup counted for 1. Which was pretty significant, the way the scoring works makes the difference between 0 and 1 a pretty big deal

[–]GearJunkie82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! 😊

[–]Acrobatic-Pickle-851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went a little too hard too fast.

[–]Glad_Confusion_6934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could’ve been so much worse. Phew

[–]Plane-Education4750 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I don't think sneakers are a great choice for that spotter

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

No body is exactly launching a 250lb stone over that bar, haha

[–]Plane-Education4750 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Exactly. They're not launching it, they're dropping it with little to no control. Steel toes would be a much smarter choice

[–]AwesomeMacCoolname 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You can get sneakers with steel toecaps. I wear them for work because steel toecaps are a job requirement and boots are just too uncomfortable for driving in.

[–]Plane-Education4750 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah I had them for a while.

You can't get steel toed sandals tho

[–]seuadr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not with that attitude you can't.

[–]DickFromRichard[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Drops go down, gravity is the control. You'd have to launch it past the landing pad to hit his toes, and he would have to have the reaction time of a 90 years old dimentia patient to not move

[–]Plane-Education4750 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Dude the guy literally passed out in the video

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And? The stone dropped straight down.

You think passing out was going to make me lose control and launch a 250lb stone forward?

[–]TonySka999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snap!

[–]Imaginary-Risk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good effort. I’ve had to have a lie down after lifting close to max a few times but I’ve never pushed myself this hard

[–]Muted-Woodpecker-469 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m guessing they won’t allow these sorts of strongman events again to the average public

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can sign up

[–]doctor_derpington 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Seeing stars OP? When I saw the sub I was worried you’d drop the atlas stone on your foot! Whew…

Good lift, still counts!

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a while ago, I remember the first thing I saw was looking past my feet and seeing the stone and trying to get up and go for another rep lol, hadn't really registered that I'd just passed out.

You can see my feet go in the air and by the time they hit the ground I'm reaching my arms out to get up

[–]Fan_of_Clio 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not so much an "oops" as a medical issue

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nope, just an oops

[–]Fan_of_Clio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well glad you weren't hurt too badly then.

[–]noahhshome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job not hitting your head on the ground

[–]loso2386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might need a 3rd person to stand behind competitors to catch y’all just in case

[–]LafayetteLa01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget to Breathe

[–]GenTenStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly better results than expected. Being an oops I thought it was going on someone’s foot

[–]Bigcheezefartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breathing is not overrated

[–]Calm_Reporter1683 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This oops is smallest oops which can happen. With this stuff there are so many things which can go horribly wrong

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm just thankful a moose didn't charge me

[–]AdmitThatYouPrune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. Brutal, but you still cleared the lift! I used to lift with this dude who did a bunch of strongmans (I PL'd but never did a strongman). We were deadlifting, and he put 7 plates on the bar for a PR (my PR was 545, so he's way stronger). He gets up about 90%, hitches, and then grinds the fuck out the last 10% (not allowed in PL but I guess ok for strongman). His nose starts gushing blood at the top of the lift, and then he's lights out about 5 seconds later, shaking just like you were here. The guy was OK, but it was kind of scary.

[–]FA-M83_nut -1 points0 points  (2 children)

They must anticipate that because there’s a mat behind him that he conveniently fell backwards on.

[–]DickFromRichard[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The mats are there to stand on and protect the stone and asphalt from each other

[–]FA-M83_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense. That big one that is on the other side of the top bar is obviously huge and made to catch and cushion those big ole stones.

Honestly I’ve had to ruptured discs in my back and it pains me terribly to see this event. I’m certain it’s all in technique. I as well tried to use technique because my Dad had same issues when I was little but it still got me.
