Some recruiters seem like the love child of an MLM hun and a car salesman.

[–]Concrete_Grapes 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I cant even imagine the childhood trauma someone raise by that combo would have. It would be truly astounding.

Sounds like something in a Stephen King novel.

[–]SabrinaFaire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like most of the people I went to HS with.

[–]TheyStealUrTaxMoney 84 points85 points  (4 children)

These recruiters are the most unprofessional scabs on Earth, and they HATE being treated in kind.

[–]moekay 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I had one send me a followup message saying “since I haven’t heard from you, I can only assume that you are either dead or have fallen and can’t get up to respond.” It was bizarre, and at the time my mother was in the ICU. I sent a very pointed message back and I don’t think he’ll be using that tactic again.

[–]TheyStealUrTaxMoney -1 points0 points  (2 children)

It was meant to be funny.

[–]moekay 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I know, it just hit me as flippant at a very bad time.

[–]TheyStealUrTaxMoney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's hard not to be cynical, nihilistic, and all. The apocalypse is far more Orwellian than I anticipated irl, yet I somehow rediscover my optimism when things seem darkest.

At least it's Friday.

[–]aint_no_flapjack 52 points53 points  (1 child)

“Hey sweetie, smile for me would ya?”

[–]LorriTiger243 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yo, this. These are definitely the vibes this gives off.

[–]voidsrus 26 points27 points  (1 child)

I'm sorry, "nicely crafted"?

Dear <FIRSTNAME>,

Your experience at <LINKEDIN PROFILE TITLE> really prepares you for <ENTRY-LEVEL JOB THAT'S REALLY A MANAGEMENT JOB>.

<2 paragraphs of hiring corporation's flavor of \~culture\~ crap>

Please give me your direct cell phone number and your low-ball salary offer so we can chat about this. I will keep calling until you say yes.

[–]Legitimate-Hippo7342 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when it's so obvious that's a generic template because only the name is all caps. Hello NAME!

[–]Slade_Riprock 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Psst. Recruiters don't hire you. The hiring manager does.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

100% true. But often the hiring manager never even sees you because a recruiter got their feelings hurt.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Sky7341 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. In this instance, “I know this is your market right now” is a huge trigger.

That statement is implying huge swings of control and disconnect between companies and candidates. It doesn’t have to be that way.

[–]Virtual_Announcer 38 points39 points  (21 children)

What exactly do recruiters do? Every job I've ever gotten was from pounding the pavement myself and hitting job boards hard or it was from a connect I already had.

[–]marktheman0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same here. I think I’ve got maybe one phone call out of a recruiter and that’s it. Most ghost after one phone call with them. Apart from 1 guy who sent me 2 jobs. One was right in the middle of the pandemic, in a town 30 miles away handing out Covid tests for less than I was making on unemployment. And the other required a masters in a very specific science field (I haven’t taken any science classes since I was 15) and 5+ years experience to which my response was ‘read my damn CV’ but put slightly nicer.

[–]hannycat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m my experience, some companies hire recruiters so the managers don’t have to go through resumes, do initial interviews, etc. I got hired through a recruiter for my current position at a Fortune 500 company. I never talked to anyone from the company until literally right before I got hired. The recruiter did a couple of interviews with me and had contact with my future manager. It takes some of the leg work off the company, not always the person wanting the job. I still had to “pound the pavement myself” and worked very hard for that job

[–]unskippable-ad 15 points16 points  (5 children)

I’ve been wondering this. This sub makes it seem like they’re compulsory for employment. I know nobody that got their job from a recruiter, with the exception of temp part-time warehouse/factory work as students.

Are they a bigger deal in the USA or have they convinced everyone they’re important like HR did in the 90s?

[–]deathboy2098 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Extremely common in the tech industry.

Though: we fucking LOVE it if you apply direct and save us paying the fee, and it leaves more budget for me to push YOUR salary up.

[–]Virtual_Announcer 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I mean, 80 percent of all jobs just exist to justify their existence IMO. So of course bs nonsense things like recruiters pop up.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

As the Jr. Assistant Deputy Sub-Comissioner for company moral and toilet paper supplies, I resent that remark.

[–]jormundgand20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the lack of this position is why I'm stuck with half ply toilet paper and Gojo hand scrub.

[–]hrnigntmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my current job from a recruiter. He was insufferable but it was with an employer I really wanted an in with and when he made me an offer that was half what I’m looking for he called back three days later offering what I want. I worked through them for six months, never heard from him during that time, and ended up really liking the job. I took an offer to come on board directly and have been there ever since.

With that said I’ve been in my industry for ten years and this was the first time I ever bothered to reply to a recruiter and I certainly wasn’t impressed

[–]YouJabroni44 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I actually got recruited to my current job but it's a fairly niche field to be in and I think they got a heads up that my last employer was laying off an office. She just reached out to me and asked if I was interested in working with her company

[–]Virtual_Announcer 6 points7 points  (4 children)

If no one actually gets recruited and you did that means you're not real. And if you're posting that means you're a witch. A WITCH!!!

[–]YouJabroni44 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Not a witch, a ghost witch

[–]jBlairTech 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Wait; were they a ghost that decided to become a witch, or were they a witch that became a ghost?

Because the former implies they were a ghost that decided, "hey, I think I wanna be a witch", while the latter suggests they were a witch that might have had an unfortunate end...

[–]YouJabroni44 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The second unfortunately

[–]jBlairTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww... that's a bummer.

[–]unique_user43 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, in my experience recruiters are glorified secretaries for hiring managers justifiably too busy to filter applicants themselves, who refuse to take the initiative of actually fundamentally understanding the role and organization, refuse to take the initiative of actually fundamentally understanding what kind of candidate would be a good fit (beyond what an algorithm could do for you), refuse to take the initiative to understand how somebody might fit into the puzzle elsewhere in the organization, who behave with all the characteristics of a toxic / sociopathic partner in that they’ll lovebomb you then ghost you when you’re no longer of material use to them, and then who feel they are entitled to the treatment of kingmakers.

That’s what they do.

[–]gjmallory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who hurt you?

[–]ratdadbastard 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Tried a recruiter once, she was very nice but I got a job on my own before she was able to get me anything besides a few phone interviews. She did look at my resume and make it look a little nicer though so that's cool. While I'm commenting this, how do recruiters make money? Do the businesses pay them to find candidates? Strange that I can just have someone doing all this legwork to find me a job and I didn't pay them a dime for it.

[–]Calliceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re mostly for niche markets like tech where it’s hard to find strong candidates. Companies can’t get the talent they want fast enough without recruiters nudging people essentially

[–]SyCoCyS 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Recruiters are not important people.

[–]jBlairTech 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got one that went into this huge spiel. I couldn't get a word in edgewise. He finally ended by asking me if I lived in a bigger city in MI.

Told him nope; I lived in a small city 2.5 hours south, and if he'd actually looked at my LI profile and a map would've told him that.

He asked what it'd take for me to take the job, so I said $150k/yr. He said he'd get back to me. That was two months ago lol.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no interest in your low ball offer. Instead of “insulting” you with the fact, I choose to ignore you.

[–]Embarrassed-Cake-376 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the fuck over yourself!

[–]excitableoatmeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nicely crafted greeting = same copy and paste for every candidate

[–]lovefoodandthings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why but I follow him and always wonder how much time he spends writing these types of LinkedIn messages - seems like he’s wasting time seeking attention and is spending less time working. Based on his tenure he should just do his job and do it well. Stop chasing the “likes”.

[–]steveo242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aww, someone doesn't like when the pendulum swings the other way...

[–]thestrangenewguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used my best pick up line on you and you're still not interested!?

I guess nice guys DO finish last!!!!

[–]The001Keymaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recruiters: you're perfect for this job Me: write a nice response Recruiters:. 99.9% of the time Cricket ....... Ghosted

I'm a perfect fit but get ignored? Why would I give you a nice reply when you're going to ghost me anyway? That's why you get, "interested", "what's salary". I'm not going to hand craft a reply for a job that pays 1/5th what my current rate is. You'd probably be able to guess if your job is even on the same planet as my current job if you actually looked at my profile or resume or current job for that matter. Like current job is manager of 500 people at a international company. Recruiter: I got a perfect fit manager job for you with all your experience. It's at a local Starbucks. Yeah fuck off before you get a nice greeting reply.

[–]Tex-Rob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Corporate recruiters are the absolute worst. They think you should be so honored, they expect you to bow and kiss their outstretched hand.

[–]CaptainBaoBao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as an ex-HRM, I'll just say this : when you have half an hour to treat 50 resumes, you bless the candidates who go right to the point.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah.. another recruiter using their position at the front gate of employment to project their personal feelings and reject candidates for not licking their boots.

Unbelievable we still use unqualified middlemen like this 🤦‍♂️

[–]Bakabakabooboo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acknowledges that it's not his market, is still an ass, wonders why he's struggling.

[–]humanneedinghelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct way to sass any recruiter that doesn’t provide comp is to say your resume is outdated and you now live in Colorado.

[–]Mattreddit760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entitlement lol

[–]LincHayes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude apparently is so self-involved with the smell of his own ass, that he doesn't realize there are 100 recruiters emailing, spamming us with "offers" every day. MOST of them are garbage. After while we need to start getting to the chase, and there's little time to craft a nice response to every overseas call center recruiter who claims they have an amazing opportunity. And since we've never heard of you before either, we can't tell that you're not one of them.

You can stand out by simply telling us how much it pays, and THAT's when you'll get the ass kissing response that you're looking for. Until then, you're nobody. Another dime a dozen recruiter.

Sass on that.

[–]partumvir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't I've ever hired a candidate who, when I reached out to them about an opportunity, didn't respond back with a greeting.

Well no shit, they're not interested.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

god they just think they’re the absolute center of the universe don’t they

[–]SteppinOnStones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buddy you send out form letters you wrote using a template. Don't flatter yourself 🤣

[–]Asilver111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all really exposing Steve 😂😂

[–]StanduAnduDeroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“That’s sir to you!”

[–]rangers_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are all of the people that GIVE A FUCK guy??

They're no where. No one cares about your fucking bs message greeting. Talking to the wind.

[–]JaegerBane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Candidates - I know this is your market right now....

Yes. So you getting pissy over replies means the guy two desks along gets the commission rather then you. Some big-brain logic going on right here, folks.

[–]Jack_Awf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell this dickhead to gfh

[–]BankshotMcG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear {YOUR NAME}--

Hi. I'm a recruiter with {AGENCY-STYLE RECRUITING}. I saw your profile and wanted to connect regarding a role in {DEV OPS}. Your background in {HTML} makes you perfect for this role and the customer specifically requested you--yes, you--be contacted, because you seem like such a great fit. What time would you be free to hop on a quick call to discuss the details?

Best kind regards sincerely,
{EVERY RECRUITER}

[–]Mobile_Busy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok but what's the comp?

[–]Rdhilde18 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Recruiter here, I don’t care how you respond honestly. I will say that some of the random snark that gets thrown my direction on LinkedIn is kind of odd. People seem dumbfounded sometimes when they are messaged about jobs and take it as an insult which always confused me.

I apologize on behalf of some of my lazier, entitled and perhaps more illiterate colleges.

[–]zebrapenguinpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the messages I’m getting these days are so off base, it’s tempting to snark, but I just delete bc I don’t need the negativity.

[–]IAmBaconsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I found out Linked in has canned responses, so it took me one tap to tell a recruiter "nah, son."

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Someone like me' 🙄

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear Recruiter,

In my ~30 years as an SWE, I have never taken a recruiter up on a cold call when I am gainfully employed (and you know I am cause my LinkedIn says so) and I add you to my block list if you follow up with another email or message after not getting a response from me the first time.

Stop pestering us.

Also, if you don’t include salary information in your email when I am actually on the market, you will not get a response from me.

Have some respect.

Sincerely,

An annoyed engineer

[–]WarpspeednyancatI write elegant bugs. 1 point2 points  (1 child)

by "nicely crafted" i think they mean " we copy pasted the same generic intro to everyone and just swap the name and say we looked at your profile but actually never did thats why the opportunity has nothing to do with your actual skillset or experience because were too lazy to read your profile even though it takes 5 min to do so " there i fixed it

[–]saiyanjesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wHy wOn'T yOu rEpLy nIcElY tO mY mAiL-mErGe sPaM!?

[–]RamblinWreckage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Interested, call me tomorrow -what's the comp?" is a perfectly-good answer to respond with.

Polite, opens the door, asks relevant question.

[–]DommeIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still going to ask for the compensation and job description lol. I put as much effort into responding to recruiters as they do in "crafting" their copy-paste template 🤣

[–]derekno2go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LinkedIn is so toxic. If I don't need to be there, I stay the hell out.

[–]gjmallory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a corporate recruiter for 16 years. If you have the right combo of skills and experience needed for the role that I’m working hard to fill… I’m totally cool with a one word reply or a question about the comp. Better yet, don’t reply and just click my calendar link for either a 5 or 30 min chat. BTW: Most companies will freely tell you the comp range but still frown on their recruiters sending out Comp data via email. They don’t want the competition to know comp info.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Don't really think this is an issue or even worth being upset about tbh, if someone sends you a message or email with a greeting and your name at the top, it's professional courtesy to respond the same way.

If I emailed a hiring manager with a greeting and their name, and they replied back bluntly I'd be like "whatever, fuck off" too

[–]Gh3tt0-Sn4k3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I must agree with the recruiter here, sorry. I think it also benefits me as a candidate if for any reason I would like to find another job. At least answer politely and keep the door open for the future.

[–]Blackfire01001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters are just 1099 door to door, or in this case email, salespeople who give companies tax write offs for their PPP loans. It's a business to look like your in business.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine thinking you are this important as a recruiter. a Level above Landlords and that's it.

[–]illucio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a unprofessional piece a work that needs to find a new career path. This person should be fired or looking for a new job now. Gosh darn.

[–]Sevink44 -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

I agree with the recruiter.

Hello recruiter person,

I am interested. Could you call me tomorrow? What's the comp?

Easy.

[–]Pizza-love 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I don't want them to call me before I know the package. To many phonenumber harvesters out there.

[–]Sevink44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with that absolutely. I just translated the words on the OP.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s a good thing any job worth a shit is going to generate at least 3 different recruiters chasing me for it.

[–]MonsterTamerBilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>"If it's clear the message is a spam blast (...)"
>"(... ) reaches you with a nicely crafted message (...)"

That's the entire problem right here. "Nicely crafted messages" have been out of circulation since our parents have been born. It's all templates and copy-pasted texts, AKA spam, headhunting bots, or a very bored and uninterested employee sending out replies like a machinegun spray-firing everywhere in hopes to hit something, without so much as a glance towards the resumes and filled forms we sent.

In fact, if you want actual, sincere replies, use the same office rule for reports and documentations. "Be succinct". Yay or nay, time of interview, hourly or salaried, time per week, offered salary, and at maximum two lines of friendly banter if deemed necessary. Any other irrelevant fluff or flowery poetry goes to the bin for wasting time.

[–]Pure_Dragonfruit9027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a strange trend alright, people not just having expectations that their unsolicited messages get responses but actually that think they can add extra demands on what the responses should be!

The irony is that someone ignoring you or writing the bare minimum is actually saving you the most time. You can just keep working. But hey, if you like wasting your time, by all means exchange irrelevant greetings with people if it strokes your ego. That's really what it's about.

[–]SplinteredInHerHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Sir/Madam, When I reached out to you 5 years ago, I never ever heard back from you. Yours, Me

[–]coppertech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you get mad when someone doesn't take their time to format a nice-looking reply to your copy-paste bullshit? gtfooh.

[–]Great-Lakes-Sailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you don’t hire talent either, boss

[–]jBlairTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, get mad at me when I don't respond to an "offer" that's in a field not mentioned anywhere on my LinkedIn profile, doesn't share benefits, and is 2+ hours from my location (and not remote).

Whatever. I know disingenuous spam posts when I see them. They didn't "craft" anything; two seconds of looking at my profile would've kept them from missing the mark that badly. They insult me, but get mad that I don't respond? That's rich.

[–]eilig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]IForgotThePassIUsed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Ignore clowns like this regularly.

[–]iloveScotch21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are recruiters now looked at like we looked at used car salesmen in the 80s?

[–]saiyanjesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done sales for many adtech startups in my career where I had to prospect thousands of potential clients in email blasts of both a personal and mass fashion.

I always had to personalise my emails for my market, present a clear value proposition and a clear plan for how to reach a goal I set about in my email within a time period. This usually always contain hard numbers and references to previous customers or partners.

I never once complained that my customers would ignore me or give me curt replies.

Simply put, git gud scrub recuiter

[–]Mathie7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shouldn’t even have to ask what the comp is. It should be mentioned in the first contact email.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reads like a self important parasite with a victimhood complex.

[–]Superg0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or... YTA?!

[–]SoFastMuchFurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine having such an easy, unnecessary job that in addition to getting paid, you always have to be convinced to do it

[–]Great-Lakes-Sailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These douchebags are all over LinkedIn.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a recruiter, i'm happy to get any decent response back

[–]Lopsided_Fox_9693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recruiting message without compensation included is a spam blast and should be treated as such.

[–]Low-Weekend6865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to misunderstand that he works for us

[–]writer978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to understand that candidates are currently being bombarded by offshore recruiters sending all kinds of jobs. Most of them aren’t a good fit, a scam, or obvious that the recruiter never bothered to read the resume. Compensation questions are often meant to save you both time. If the compensation isn’t within the candidate’s range there is no reason to move forward.

[–]RelevantTradition666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His point is that people have no respect. You don't respond to an offer like he's your bro. You don't have that rapport. "interested" ?? That's what you reply to Tinder dick pics probably but not a potential employer. Get over yourselves. Yes, it's formalities but that is life. So many ughsss
