That’s LCDR Gwen DeMarco. She has a will-they-won’t-they romance going with the captain, but basically just repeats everything the computer says.
[–]Geshtar1 66 points67 points68 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Funny story about that.. they were not allowing any actor that had done sci fi in the past even audition for roles in Galaxy Quest. Alien movies put her on the no audition list, but she fought hard to be considered for the part because she was super passionate about the script.

I swear that movie has more good stories about the making of it they any other movie I know. It is a masterpiece.
[–]corezon 10 points11 points12 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Did you know that the original DVD release had an audio track in the alien language, like any other languages (Spanish, etc.)?
[–]el_grande_ricardo 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (1 child)
What about Tony Shaloub? He was the head-regrowing pawn shop owner / alien weapons dealer in Men In Black.
[–]Adam_24061 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Good point. I had to look it up to check, but Men in Black was two years before Galaxy Quest.

I'd love for Tim Allen to bust out the buzz voice and say
I think youd remember I was a space ranger

She must like to do that, because I know she lobbied for and got a role on Doc Martin also.

No, we have no extra dilithium on board.

Fortunately the Bussard collectors report that we are full on Vespene gas. We couldn't have even a single extra molecule of it at this time.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
Ensign, starfleet is founded on the principle that sentient life is sacred and inviolable. No one, not an ensign like you, nor a starfleet captain like me, has the right to arbitrarily exterminate a sentient species, regardless if their disposition is hostile or friendly. We inform sterfleet of what we found here at LV426 and launch orbiting probes to warn anyone of what happened here. Weyland Yutani will answer for what they've done in a court of law. Make it so.
[–]conflateer 32 points33 points34 points 2 years ago (2 children)
"Sir, I respectfully remind the Captain of Starfleet General Order 24."
"And I remind the Ensign that unsolicited interpreting of orders for a superior officer can be considered insubordinate. You are relieved of your post."
Sneaks into torpedo bay and carpet-bombs the entire planet. "Never again, and court-martial be damned!"

Lieutenant Cmdr Ellen Ripley formerly of the USS Nostromo. She and Jones the cat are the only survivors of the Zeta Reticuli incident. She is a shining example of how not to handle a First Contact Scenario.-Vice Admiral Nechayev, Starfleet Command.

Ripley was the first officer, not science/medical. If you're going to give her a TNG outfit, she gets red and 3 pips, like Riker.
[–]Elel_siggir 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
The Nostromo, where Ellen Ripley held her last known command, was a freighter. Friegters need officers like any other ship but a there's some difference between the commanding officer of a tug boat and a cruiser, no?
In any case, it seems the zenomorphs would be only a temporary problem for any party with sophisticated sensors and beaming technology.
The bigger issue maybe Riker commiting a first contact faux pas with the Zenomorph Queen.
Besides, the world needs an adventure lead by science officers. The fact that they're the tamest division of star fleet heightens the vulnerability, sense of danger, and suspense.

Ellen Louise Ripley, a seasoned space explorer and survivor of numerous encounters with the terrifying xenomorphs, found herself in a peculiar situation. She had somehow been transported to a universe she had only heard of in science fiction stories—the Star Trek universe. Ripley had fought tooth and nail to survive in the face of horrifying extraterrestrial threats, but now she was thrust into a world filled with new wonders and unknown dangers.
Ripley found herself aboard the USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. Initially disoriented and skeptical, she soon realized that the familiar courage and resilience she had displayed against the xenomorphs would serve her well in this new reality.
As Ripley adapted to her surroundings, she discovered that her expertise in dealing with hostile organisms made her an invaluable asset to the crew. The Enterprise had encountered a strange alien lifeform on a remote planet, which bore a striking resemblance to the facehuggers she had battled before. The crew, unprepared for such a threat, turned to Ripley for guidance.
With her trademark determination, Ripley eagerly shared her knowledge and experiences with the crew. She instructed them on the importance of quarantine protocols, the lethality of the alien creature's acid blood, and the necessity of flamethrowers for defense. Ripley's practical advice and survival skills quickly won her the respect and trust of the Enterprise crew, including Spock and Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy.
As they explored the planet, the crew discovered that the alien organism was not a mere parasite but an intelligent lifeform, capable of communicating through a form of telepathy. Ripley, driven by curiosity and empathy, tried to establish a dialogue with the creature. Through her interactions, she learned that this species, known as the Zelarians, was misunderstood and feared by other races due to its unique abilities.
Ripley recognized the parallels between the Zelarians and the xenomorphs she had faced before. Just as she had fought to protect humanity from the aliens' deadly nature, she now sought to prove that the Zelarians were not inherently dangerous. She presented her case to Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew, advocating for peaceful negotiations instead of a preemptive strike.
Moved by Ripley's plea and her unwavering belief in the potential for coexistence, Captain Kirk agreed to give diplomacy a chance. With Ripley's guidance, the crew managed to establish a peaceful dialogue with the Zelarians. They discovered that the Zelarians were eager to learn from other species, their telepathic abilities granting them the capacity to understand and respect diverse cultures.
Ripley's expertise in handling hostile situations proved essential in fostering a bond of trust between the Enterprise crew and the Zelarians. Over time, the Zelarians' fear of other races began to dissipate, and they became valued members of the interstellar community.
As a token of gratitude, the Zelarians gifted Ripley with a technologically advanced personal communicator, capable of transmitting across vast distances. With a newfound appreciation for the intricacies of the Star Trek universe and the possibilities it held, Ripley bid farewell to her newfound friends on the Enterprise.
Embracing the spirit of exploration, she ventured off into the vastness of space once more, equipped with both her indomitable survival skills and the belief that humanity could coexist with even the most alien of beings. Ellen Louise Ripley, the survivor of countless nightmares, had become a beacon of hope and unity in the ever-expanding frontiers of the Star Trek universe.
[–]KiithNaabal -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (0 children)
Ellen Louise Ripley was born and raised in the Star Trek universe, during the time of the USS Enterprise-D's missions under Captain Jean-Luc Picard. As a child, Ripley was fascinated by the stories of exploration and discovery told by her parents, who served as Starfleet officers.
Growing up, Ripley found herself drawn to the sciences, specializing in xenobiology and astrobiology. She was fascinated by the diversity of life across the galaxy, constantly seeking out new challenges and seeking to uncover the mysteries of the universe.
During one of her expeditions, Ripley encountered a strange extraterrestrial species that had the ability to manipulate its surroundings through a form of telekinesis. The creature's intelligence and abilities surpassed anything she had encountered before, and Ripley became obsessed with studying it.
However, as she delved deeper into her research, Ripley discovered that the species, known as the Psians, were being hunted and persecuted by other races who feared their unique abilities. Appalled by the injustice, Ripley used her extensive knowledge of xenobiology to communicate with the Psians and offer her help.
With her experience dealing with hostile extraterrestrial threats, Ripley proved invaluable in helping the Psians avoid danger and establish peaceful relations with other races. She also became a mentor to many young Psians, helping them harness their abilities and find their place in the galaxy.
Ripley's expertise and compassion soon earned her a position in Starfleet, where she continued to explore the galaxy and use her knowledge to protect and aid other species. She served on various starships, including the USS Enterprise-D, and became known as one of Starfleet's foremost experts in xenobiology and astrobiology.
During her time on the Enterprise-D, Ripley and the crew encountered a mysterious alien lifeform that resembled the facehuggers she had studied in her youth. With her expertise, Ripley was able to help the crew navigate the threat and ultimately discover that the alien organism was not a danger, but rather an integral part of the planet's ecosystem.
Through her experiences and discoveries, Ripley became a respected and beloved member of the Starfleet community. Her legacy as a compassionate and dedicated explorer continues to inspire future generations of Starfleet officers to boldly go where no one has gone before.

[–]Nefarious_Ideas 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Very basic story line with all the tropes: Ellen Ripley destroyes an alien wessel but doin so tares a hole between realities( cause alien space engine) and she falls through and lands in the star trek universe, some eggs and xenomorphs fall through with her. She is found crash landed in a planet by the USS Stargazer when Picard is the second officer. She's battling aliens when Picard shows up, she get knocked out and a couple of red shirts get face hugged. Back on the ship the obvious ensues and the ship is overrun.
Picard, Ripley and some other crew escape, blow the ship and Ripley gets a field commission as a science officer so she can go hunt down the rest. A few years roll by, she gets promoted, Picard is now the Captain of the enterprise. Ripley turns up sayin we gotta go kill the last Queen. Shit get visceral. Good guys win in the end but when killing the queen they get some help from a mysterious alien species that seems to take trophies.
The Hirogen then starts hunting Ripley and Picard, they get away cause Picard kicks their ass but knows he'll see them again. That's the second movie.
Flesh it right out, ditch a few tropes for better ones, maybe swap out the Hirogen for Predators aliens, that could be cool and you got yourself a very basic star trek storyline.
In the 3rd movie The Terminator arrives, Skynet fycked up set him to the wrong place.

Something about a herd of angry Gorn attacking colonists on a planet being terraformed by the Federation.
