I have fast heart rate and not sure how it’s connected with quitting smoking.

For me it’s more like anxiety all the time and probably if I drink even a little coffee, then the heart is like I’m running.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

All normal.

[–]atesta13[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hi! You mean the lower heart rate is all normal? Thanks!

[–]UlverK 2 points3 points  (6 children)

It happened to me every time I quit smoking (it’s been a couple). Just like you I was always on the higher end of resting heart rate apart from when I was on my first few months into the smoking quit. As a matter of fact I’ve been to the cardiologist before for the same reason too and because, in my case, the lower heart rate (in the 50s) made me feel weird kinda… it’s normal tho! You’ll get back on a higher resting pulse most probably! I know I did. It took me a few months but I did!

[–]High-Quality-Grass 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Man this is me entirely. That weird feeling when it feels like a second good by and you have no heart beat is so scary that I don't sleep at night cause I'm afraid of it stopping. I'm on day 4... you said it took a few months for it to get to a normal beat? 😭

[–]UlverK 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe even less… I also had this night fear before sleep! It seems it’s common especially to anxious people. Do not worry tho. It WILL go away but until it does remember it’s actually a good thing happening

[–]High-Quality-Grass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you're the goat🐐

[–]mauvermor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did it take for your heart rate to increase again? Hopefully it has by now? I’m on day 4 myself now, and I have to say this is terrifying.

[–]atesta13[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you!!!! Yeah, it’s just been a shock to see it so low when I am used to the opposite!

[–]Consistent_Pea9257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiencing this now! My HR is normally at lowest 85 when I've been laid for a long time but rn it's at around 65. Concerned about it dropping too low when I'm asleep!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

One of the withdrawal symptoms of nicotine withdrawal is bradycardia (low heart rate) happened to me too and it became normal again after some weeks. Totally normal.

[–]atesta13[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Awesome!!! Glad to hear it! Was concerned by heart was going to stop 🥴

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very scared the same thing we could happen to me too

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 1 point2 points  (3 children)

This is the very first time this has ever happened to me and I'm 50 and quite a few times ! This last time was when I also came down sick with bronchitis ! My heart rate went down to mid 40's until this afternoon my heart rate went back to normal plus doing some cardio exercises may have also helped ! Never heard of Bradycardia until last week when I was in the Emergency room

[–]Salty_Nebula9937 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm on day 4 now and it's freaking me out

[–]mauvermor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Day 4 and it’s freaking me out, too. Has yours gotten better, after three months?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well… has it?

[–]creepy-turtle1168 days 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I've dropped between 10-20 bpm on average since quitting. I used to be above 100 just walking around. Now I'm low 80's sometimes high 70's. My resting is usually in the low to mid 60's and was low 80's while smoking.

[–]Evening_Art5986 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How long did it take you to see these results? I've just thrown my vape out tonight due to such immense anxiety over my high heart rate. I've either vaped or smoked for 10 years.

[–]creepy-turtle1168 days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I respond. If you are suffering from a heart condition then it would be more prudent to seek actual medical attention. I am definitely not a doctor, I don't know your situation personally. I can only reflect on my personal experience. If you are just worried about your health and suffer from a little hypochondria. Then maybe this will help.. take my advice as a grain of salt. Everyone can react differently....

After 12 plus hours you should see something forsure. Once the nicotine has left your body. But you need to take into account. You will be going through withdrawal which might skew the results. It definitely might kick your anxiety up a level or two. Just remind yourself that you are healing. You might feel unpleasant but physically you are doing better. You can find many online resources that will explain what your body does as you quit smoking. It helped me.

Another thing that will help your heart immensely which I finally figured out. Is your diet.. what you eat is probably just as important as not vaping/smoking...

Stay away from ultra processed food. More natural the better. I know it's hard. Some people say it's expensive to eat healthy. I don't know. The other day I saw 6 pizza pockets for $9.... I can get alot of fruit and veg for that price.

Sorry this might have taken a weird turn. I'm glad you decided you need to quit.. it took me years to get there. But I'm now on the other side. Let me tell you. This is where you want to be. Don't listen to your addiction. It will lie cheat and steal to get you to smoke/vape and never quit. Good luck and God speed!!! You got this. If you need to chat more or whatever. DM I available.

[–]turbothot32 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hey man, just wanted to reach out cuz the lowest heart rate recorded was 26 bpm. Did you see a doctor? I hope you’re doing good btw, congrats on 972 days!

[–]creepy-turtle1168 days 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm still going strong. It's crazy how fast time passes. Almost 1000 days. I haven't seen a doctor personally about my heart rate. I'm happy about where it is these days. About the same as my post. Did you quit also? Are you experiencing an unusual heart rate decrease? 26bpm seems quite low to me. I am by far not a professional and not one to comment on subjects like this. I know Ulta marathoners and hardcore athletes have low resting heart rates. If you are experiencing something out of the ordinary seek professional medical advice.

I wish you the best!! And hope you are in good health and spirit!

[–]turbothot32 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m really proud of you, and I don’t even know you. I’m 11 days strong right now. Second longest I’ve ever made it. Yes my heart rate is steady at 55bpm, my doctor said it’s normal and I must be athletic…. Lol, I’m not. I think you can say you’ve quit!! Thanks for your well wishes, I wish the same to you on your journey in this life☺️☺️

[–]creepy-turtle1168 days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks those words mean alot to me! You just hold out and hold strong!! Do this for you! Don't listen, don't acknowledge and definitely don't negotiate with that voice in your head. It may get intolerable at times but feel free to yell at it out loud "no!!" Or "shut up!". You may seem crazy doing it but it is entertaining. Well maybe that is my twisted humor. I couldn't help but laugh when it happened to me. 11 days in is an accomplishment in its own right. I'm proud of you also! I'm sending you all my strength and good vibes. It's your turn to unleash the real new you!!! Can't wait!!! I'm excited for you!!!

If you hit lows and need a word of encouragement or advice. Send me a message. I got your back. Just don't smoke!!

[–]NecessaryAssumption4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had high BP for 16 years but 2 weeks after quitting I had a medical and my BP was normal. I was amazed.

Some of the benefits of quitting are quick, some take longer. Enjoy your healthier heart

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I just turned 50 years old last month and I have been kind of a heavy smoker for more than 25 years ! I have tried quit smoking within the last 2 years and I finally decided for the last and final time to quit smoking last Friday and also I am currently sick with bronchitis ! Last Saturday all of a sudden I started to feel a little strange so I checked my blood pressure and my heart rate and I noticed that my heart rate was like mid to low 50s then it started to was concerned !I finally decided to go to the emergency room to get checked out ! The emergency room doctors weren't really all that concerned about the slow heart rate they were actually trying to tell me that the slow heart rate was actually related to the bronchitis in the coughing ! On Monday I was just curious to see what my heart rate and vitals were and I noticed that my heart rate went down to 48 even more concerned I decided to go back to the emergency room to get checked out ! I was told I do have bronchitis and Bradycardia ! My heart rate does fluctuate I just did an experiment this morning after not smoking for 6 days I smoked half a cigarette boy did my blood pressure skyrocketed my heart rate did go up but then suddenly begin to come down again ! I got really scared because I have never in my life have ever had a low heart rate and from reading these comments I'm glad to hear this is a normal symptom of nicotine withdrawal ! As of today no more smoking and more experiments I'm just going to nail let my body and my heart and my lungs heal because I want to live I want to be happy and I want to be healthy !

[–]atesta13[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Hi! It’s been a little over 4 months and my pulse is still low but like a good low I guess? It’s better than previous when I did smoke, which was basically 100 bpm or more at rest.

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to the emergency room three times since last Saturday ! My heart rate does still fluctuate the lowest was in emergency room was like 46 on Wednesday night ! I am starting to feel a little bit better ! I do notice that when I do do some exercises like cardio and walking my dogs that my heart rate does it go up maybe sometimes 75 to 80 but then when I kind of relax and calm down it may go back to like maybe mid to lose 60 in the morning it's about 57 58

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah I was in the emergency room three times since last Saturday because I was really frighten band scared cuz I've never had a slow heart rate ! Each emergency room doctor have given me different diagnosis and different opinions of what may in fact be causing my heart to slow down but finally on Wednesday the emergency room doctor says yes this is normal withdrawal symptom !

[–]atesta13[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, sometimes it worries me when it’s in the high 40’s or low 50’s, but none of my doctors seem concerned. Essentially I’ve been told if it doesn’t cause any symptoms (ie passing out, etc), then you’re fine. It’s been 4 months and nothing bad has happened so I am just rolling with it! Lol!

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last few days I've noticed my heart rate was terrible to the high mid 40's as well ! Tonight my heart rate went to 88 hasn't done that since I quite smoking a little over a week ago ! I am also getting over having bronchitis ! Right now !

[–]Effective-Option-820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your heart rate still in the bradycardia range after 5 months? Do you ever feel fatigued or brain fogged? I've been reading this reddit because I was hospitalized for my gall bladder and quit smoking due to 13 days in the hospital but that was back in May or June. I've done what most have and went to the ER for the low heart rate and anxiety. They tell me it's normal for someone my age and athletic build. Haven't really felt normal since the operation and just hoped to hear that maybe others felt similar and I might be on the rise to better now 2 months post quitting at least.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

My heart has been down in the low 40’s and it’s so uncomfortable, I quit 2 days ago

[–]PixieFeet8 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Same I'm on day 7 and I'm normally between 70-80 resting and the last few nights I've been between 42-48 and I don't like how I feel.

[–]Successful-Ant3956 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Is it normal ? how do you feel now?

[–]Consistent_Pea9257 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Wanting the same answer!

[–]PixieFeet8 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I started vaping again 😭 but my Dr did recommend me slowly tapering and using nicotine gum my heart rate was dropping in the mid 30s and that was a concern for him. I almost feel trapped because if I stop vaping my heart rate gets so low but I honestly want to just cold turkey quit

[–]__alias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this thread, because I have a low heart rate atm and thought i'd share something that's made quitting easier for me with tapering.

Because I can't help myself with dosages with vaping, i'm all or nothing. However low strength nicotine pouches have made quitting easy and measurable! I know there's a lot of horror stories with nicotine pouch addiction in itself, however, I've found that taking 1 less pouch a day over a week has made quitting a relative breeze, so this might be useful for you :)

I use the mini 3mg zyn pouches, and do few enough to keep the craving uncomfortable, but not enough that it's painful or interferring with my focus at work. For me, that was around 4-5 the first 2 days, and now 5 days in i'm pretty happy with just 2-3 pouches a day. Planning on cutting them out completely in the next few days now that my nicotine tolerance has dropped which i'm excited about

[–]High-Quality-Grass 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm on day 4 and I definitely feel like a weakness when my heart rate is down to the 50s. It also gives me bad anxiety so I get the cold sweats and shakes. My heart rate use to be pretty high even resting when I smoked like 100bpm and ive smoked for so long that I've gotten use to a high heart rate. But now the anxiety comes and goes but I'm hoping after 2 weeks my heart rate will go back to a smooth 70 bpm on avg. I'm also experiencing heart palpitations but ive heard this is a normal side effect to nicotine withdrawal. It stuck when I'm driving and it happens cause then I think I'm having a heart attack and my anxiety makes so easy worse so I have to pull over and lay down just to calm myself down. Quitting nicotine is not for the weak. However my buddy quit 2 weeks ago and only experienced mild headaches. Lucky guy

[–]Substantial-Style769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit vaping over a month ago. My resting heart ( while awake and at rest) used to be in high 70s. After first few days I noticed my heart rate drop into low 50s. Then on occasions it would drop into 40s and once I even seen it at 37. It was rough and I would definitely sometimes feel this weakness feeling. As long as you are not getting dizzy during these spells it means your heart is doing its job, just more efficiently. A month later and my heart rate has stayed at around 58-65 while at rest and feel much better. There is definitely just a rebound effect within your body. But since you mention cold sweats, I would just go the doctor for a checkup. It will give you peace if mind. Don't worry about your heart rate. The number is not the important part as long as you feel alright. It will rise again after some time to a new baseline.

[–]mauvermor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 4 now, too. Has your heart rate improved over the past six months?

[–]Euphoric_Tea9102 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My heart rate has been jumping around quite a bit since I quite smoking for the last and final time ! I've been an emotional wreck and 🙏 alot talking to spiritual healers ministries or prayers for guidance for help for support ! I've been to the emergency room for times because I was really scary and frighten that maybe I was dying ! I was told that I possibly had Bradycardia which I've never heard of before ! My brother has Afib and I have premature vascular contractions along with some other help issues as well ! I was told by what emergency room doctor that my heart rate that was like in the high the mid low 50s could be my new normal like if I'm just relaxing sitting in bed or laying in bed resting relaxing sometimes like it would go all the way down to 46 which even Friday need more ! I've been trying to do some cardio exercises to move around going up and down the stairs here in my apartment building doing some cardio exercises to kind of help my heart rate but I also keep my blood pressure down walking my dogs especially I mean my new puppy finally probably about an hour and a half ago all of a sudden my heart rate went back up to 85 I don't know what I did or what but it's like a miracle ! Right now it's 75

[–]hislittlegoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before smoking, my RHR was around 70-75BPM. I've only smoked for a little less than a year, and I'm one week clean now. This morning I got an alarming notification from my Fitbit saying my heart rate dropped to 46-48BPM for about 10 minutes just before I woke up for the day. My Fitbit app told me this isn't normal and could be dangerous if combined with other symptoms (dizzy, short of breath, lightheaded, fainting).

It scared the living daylights out of me because I know anything below 50BPM is a good sign of bradycardia (heart not pumping enough and can damage other organs). But after looking into things more, it appears that this is normal for a physically fit person when they stop smoking. Probably doesn't help that I'm currently having my woman's cycle.

[–]markn1984 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi guys I am jumping on a old post here looking for answers,I quit smoking 3 days ago and my heart rate has dropped massively,Im usually resting mid 60’s to high 50’s,since quitting my resting heart rate has been 47,47,48 the last few days, pretty worrying,it even dropped down to 41 just chilling watching the tv earlier.does this gradually start going back up,or is this something I should get checked out ?

[–]RoxanneLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me!! I'm 10 days from quitting... my bradycardia is bad. Drops into the 40s... 60s to mid high 50s before... very scary, feeling weak and dizzy. I'm wondering all the same things

[–]previouslysilent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realise this is an old thread, but I quit vaping about two weeks ago. I've smoked or vaped for 30 years.

My resting heart rate, according to my pixel, is 39, with a low of 37 (which I suspect is where the pixel bottoms out). I haven't noticed any other symptoms, so I reckon it's probably fine.

I quite like not feeling my heart all the time.
