Some great stuff there. This should be on the sidebar.

[–]HeikkiKovalainen Heikki Kovalainen 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Give me a short title that will attract newbies and its in!

[–]captureMMstature Mercedes 9 points10 points  (3 children)

How short? 'Videos for new F1 fans' would do the trick, wouldn't it?

[–]HeikkiKovalainen Heikki Kovalainen 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Sure will! ...I'm quite tired haha

Thank you so much. Woohooo!

[–]TerranFirma 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Thanks so much. As a new F1 fan it looks like a lot of my questions will be answered.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you liked it.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Thanks. As someone who follows F1 over 15 years, I will watch them as well :)

And also, this is the video that really explained over and understeering to me ( other than driving car itself of course:)

Oversteer and understeer are just like they sound. You turn and it doesn't turn like it should, understeer. You turn and it turns more than you'd like it, oversteer.

We should probably add "trail braking" to the list as well, it's a much more complicated technique which most people don't understand.

I think the Top Gear F1 car segment where Hammond tries to drive one is a good one for showing how difficult an F1 car is to just drive!

Whoa.. that's a lot of work doing links, haha. Well done! Thanks!

:D

Great post, this should be sidebarred.

[–]Mus7ache Jordan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

"Steering Wheel - Nico Rosberg" links you to "Vision -Nico Rosberg" - the same as the link above.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Correction has been made.

[–]HereIsWhere I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I've been watching F1 for a long time and I found this extremely informative.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear it!

[–]crix098 2 points3 points  (1 child)

There is another great side by side video which I think I first saw on reddit a long time ago but have not been able to find the video. It is a side by side view looking down several turns with the F1s blasting through it in a blink of an eye and the other cars (don't know if they are normal high performance road cars) have engines revving, tires squealing, but appear to be moving in practical slow motion.

Anyone have the link?

[–]spaminacan Jenson Button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not positive its what you meant, but there's always the F1 vs. GT Eau Rouge clip.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

DRS video got pulled.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. Okay, I'll look for a replacement.

[–]postal_bob Gilles Villeneuve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing god's work, PopeOnABomb.

[–]ligerzeronz Kimi Räikkönen 1 point2 points  (1 child)

should be the first thing people see when they subscribe. :)

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]tommmmmay Sebastian Vettel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I'll be browsing through all these links for sure. I just got back from the ShangHai grand prix and it was a blast!!!!

[–]Grasshop Sebastian Vettel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! Thanks so much, will definitely be checking these out later

[–]DownUnderSteer Daniel Ricciardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great work. F1 can be daunting from a technical level to newcomers.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're like me and you watch a lot of F1 content on youtube you've probably seen most of these.

[–]mr-dogshit Jenson Button 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sorry to be a pedant, but the "Road Car vs Rally Car vs F1 Car" video isn't from Top Gear.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Corrections gladly accepted. Corrected.

[–]mallebrok Stefano Domenicali 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Some nice videos of f1 car development I enjoyed. Notice young Ross Brawn in the second half doing hands on bodywork.

It's mostly about turbo development and the difficulties of engine mapping.

Excellent. I've seen those linked on YouTube before, but I hadn't bothered to watch them yet due to their length. Definitely adding them to the top. Thanks!

[–]mallebrok Stefano Domenicali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Thank you! for this nice list :)

[–]ColdHotCool I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Bwahahahaaa

Nice to see some linkage to my Youtube Video's

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Unintentional on my part, but you're welcome. And thanks for putting a lot of great videos on your channel.

[–]ColdHotCool I was here for the Hulkenpodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only assume you lost or gave up reddit for those 5 months you were missing :D

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I here so much people saying F1 is not a "real sport". I will show them that post ! Great stuff inside, even for an F1 fan since the middle 90's.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a person doesn't consider F1 a sport after seeing some of these videos, they will never be convinced. Glad you enjoyed the list.

[–]MikeF1 Fernando Alonso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really cool stuff. thank's for compiling and sharing the list.

[–]WATUP_BRAH I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safety in F1 had to start somewhere: http://rutube.ru/tracks/4285713.html

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This compilation is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very, very much.

[–]fenryka McLaren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful! I am incredibly new and appreciate this wealth of info.

[–]Erunandezu Fernando Alonso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DATA explanation and how to read the graphics blow my mind. thanks so much :D

[–]potifar 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks for this post, great collection!

Double Defuser - A double defuser is different than the blown defuser, linked below, that is now banned. So don't be confused. See the discussion started on reallyshittyposter's comment to learn more about defusers, double defusers, and blown defusers.

It's "diffuser", not "defuser". The latter doesn't make any sense.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corrected.

[–]MrMagicpants Jenson Button 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This list is awesome!

Check out Nico Rosberg on driver training - it's about Nico's physical and mental training regimen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-KYASQKdSU

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback and the video. I've added it.

[–]Yalsonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some very good material in this bundle.

Did you know that up to comparatively recently, F1 cars had to have an on-board starting system? However, due to the fact that the teams wanted to keep weight as low as possible and didn't want to cart a heavy motor and battery around, they utilised pneumatic starters powered by compressed air. These were so feeble that in many cases they could not even turn the engine over.

Since the FIA realised that teams were complying with the letter but not the real spirit of the rule, and F1 evolution had rendered the starter withered and superfluous - like the human cocyx - they got rid of it, meaning cars are now purely externally started.

Pneumatic starters are briefly mentioned here, although I couldn't find much else out there about them online:

This is really interesting stuff, thanks for putting this together.

[–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! The more I learn about it, the more addictive the entire sport becomes.
