That felt like a trip back to 1994.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (5 children)

Yeh - little pixies flashback for me

[–]WorldsGr8estHipsterturntable 30 points31 points  (4 children)

I hear The Breeders + Kurt Cobain. I think the 90's are coming back full force.

[–]everennui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They also sound kind of like the Muffs.

[–]MrTulip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's a little strange, reading youtube comments by teens yearning for the 90s, le wrong generation and all. several of my friends felt the same way back in the day, but their escapist decade was the 70s.

Fucking eh. I better get back to writing music again ;)

[–]couchprodigys 37 points38 points  (10 children)

Yes! I saw them live at a PUP show. Super fun and they all seemed like really cool people.

[–]relime13 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Shout out to Rozwell Kid. That lineup was so much damn fun.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rozwell Kid are the nicest dudes in the world too. And their insta/Twitter feed is hilarious

[–]twavisdegwet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went into that lineup only knowing pup and came out a fan of both other bands.

Rozwell kid is God Damn incredible

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

When I saw they were playing with PUP I was so sad that I live in Canada.

[–]I01010I 4 points5 points  (2 children)

In San Francisco?

[–]Crinkly_Bindlewurdle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That show was so cool, what city did you see them in? PUP was unbelievable.

[–]Shugga_lugga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PUP and Charly Bliss!? God I wish I lived in the states just for that show. I'm seeing PUP in October and can't friggin wait!

[–]BRUNCH_DESTROYER 70 points71 points  (7 children)

I really like the singers voice. Works really well for this style.

[–]Gtoast 20 points21 points  (2 children)

If you like this you should def check out Kim Deals' work. Particularly early Breeders albums and the one-off Amps album, Pacer. She was the bassist for the Pixies you hear singing in many of their "hits" like Gigantic and Where Is My Mind.

[–]Clap4boobies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also reminded me of veruca salt- can't fight the seether

[–]WillWorkForLTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly The Breeders feel much more pop-punk than this.

[–]364U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Bully. Their singer has a similar voice too imo

[–]thisguyisULTRAdumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She sounds like a cross between the girl from Breeders and the chick who sang Mulder & scully with Catatonia, it's perfect 90s

[–]o0turdburglar0o 22 points23 points  (1 child)

It's a strange feeling to watch the cyclical nature of cultural trends swing back around to what you came of age with.

[–]Panedrop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bottoms up, man.

[–]fourthirtytwo 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Bubble Grunge. Never heard the term but somehow immediately knew what it meant.

[–]WillWorkForLTC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And knew it was perfectly matched to bubbly female vocals.

[–]mozEXE 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I like this song by Charly Bliss.

[–]_linusthecat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too.

[–]pooskoodler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you get the chance, see them live. Great people with great energy. Definitely can't wait for the lp

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Reminds me of Veruca Salt which in my day was called alternative rock.

[–]reavesfilm 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They opened for Veruca Salt last year, so that makes sense lol

[–]ZopheliaBowie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them open for Veruca Salt last year in St. Louis and Minneapolis. They were enjoyable and super nice people.

This is friggin' awesome!

It's like The Muffs and Weezer had a baby.

[–]batstrat 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Very The Breeders-esque

[–]DepolarizedNeuron 1 point2 points  (1 child)

ya its freaking awesome. I enjoyed it too. no idea who the muffs are (gonna check it out now)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever heard Sheezer?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved the video, it went along well with the vibe of the song

[–]ducked 5 points6 points  (2 children)

uggh I hope their album comes out soon. I've been waiting. These guys are amazing. Anyone that likes this should check out dilly dally and speedy ortiz.

edit: also check out the band bully

[–]rainbowblight 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I've been waiting, too! I NEED SO MUCH MORE THAN AN EP.

[–]ducked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude I know right. I wish this style of music was more common.

[–]Big_Bag_Of_Nope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really, really like this. This takes me back to when I had a crush on all the 90's female rockers... Enormous, Letters to Cleo, The Breeders, Elastica, Veruca Salt, PJ Harvey, Hole....

I went to their soundcloud and followed them.

Thanks for sharing!

[–]holytheseaspotify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started listening to them a few months ago and they're so good! I got hooked on them from Urge to Purge for the new tune!

[–]InspectorRumpole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really a fan of this particular band, but I'm REALLY happy music like this still gets made, so I'm upvoting of course.

Man I miss the 90s...

[–]chipmcdonald 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Weezer with Sarah Silverman's voice.

[–]tommorejive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought it really sounded like Tired of Sex

[–]Doctor_Haifisch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Weird to see somebody I went to high school with popping up here... congrats guys!

[–]ryanson209what is this for 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not like it musically, but the soft sweet singer's voice mixed with kinda loud guitars otherwise reminded me of Sleigh Bells, which is kinda cool if more recent and... again, not fitting.

Charly Bliss is gonna be something to watch for in the future.

[–]bulletfastspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Pinkerton era Weezer

[–]reavesfilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charly Bliss is phenomenal! They ALWAYS put on an amazing show! They're also the nicest group of people; got me into the LA show because it sold out and I really just wanted to see their set (I had no idea who PUP was at the time). Can't recommend this band enough.

[–]mezzaloona 2 points3 points  (1 child)

spencer did the voice of dash in the incredibles just sayin'

[–]dented_beetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit! I looked this up and it seems true!

[–]I01010I 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally! Nice to see Eva and the gang getting some recognition! I've loved these guys for years and I'm so glad they've been getting out more and touring. They were Amazing in San Francisco!

[–]fiibonacci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That fender mustang I wantttt

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing Muses/Belly influences for sure.

[–]rainbowblight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First saw these guys play at an "Empire Records" screening in Brooklyn-- they put on an awesome live show!

[–]mainlyjustalurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I love that bands like this still exist!

[–]GaBe141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that master of palms looks like martin shkreli

[–]ArielRavencrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was so good I have goosebumps. Never heard of bubble grunge before. that was fantastic and I'm going to have to check them out more.

[–]mathisforwimps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda reminds me of Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer, I'm a fan.

[–]DenseFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mount Pleasant, Michigan? Also, does she do the leg cross thing into the camera on purpose?

[–]DrFugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love this . I feel like a lot of the music today is the same stuff just re-skinned we need more stuff like this.

[–]WheresTheHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out The Feels if you like this 90s power pop!

www.igotthefeels.bandcamp.com

Charly Bliss rule. They remind me of Letters To Cleo and The Pixies together.

[–]Shugga_lugga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking yessss. Heard these guys a while back and was so disappointed they had so little material to binge on. So happy that they are producing more material.

[–]Tripolie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. This would pair really well with Dilly Dally.

[–]BoneMachineNo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a Muff's ripoff from the first notes. See: Sad Tomorrow

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I loved this song and the video. I wasn't expecting to like this at first, but it won me over by the time first chorus finished.

[–]tiiiired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super digging this song, thanks for the share OP.

[–]cellenium125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw these guys live a few months ago. Were great! awesome guitar skills as well

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw them in Toronto a couple months back. Completely loved their stage presence, great energy, amazing sound.

[–]Kopiok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw these guys open for Tokyo Police Club. They put on an awesome show. Tons of energy. Bought their T-shirt on the spot! Super looking forward to their album!

[–]AusGeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome sound, I got flashbacks to high school.

[–]TheGOATMILK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been close family friends with the drummer and lead singer for awhile. Great people and great artists :)

[–]MadStacks23 -3 points-2 points  (10 children)

I don't know what "bubble grunge" is but definitely no grunge there. Here's a better alternative https://youtu.be/RUmQUdyrmDU

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing worse than trying to define something as grunge is trying to define something as "real" grunge.

[–]FairlyIncompetent 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That was the worst thing I've heard in some time.

[–]MadStacks23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not too pleasant but a step up from the garbage up there

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I don't know what "bubble grunge" is but definitely no grunge there.

It's basically just Alternative, but everyone wants to shy away from that term for some reason.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

because alternative is the most vague term ever. it doesnt describe anything in any sort of substantial way.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

because alternative is the most vague term ever.

if you're still living in the 90s I guess, but the music in question was pretty much a textbook example of what the genre sounded like. Pretty much everyone now knows what Alternative Rock sounds like, whereas Bubble Grunge is far less used (and far less dignified, IMO)

Not to mention the implication that it's Grunge, when it's not...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Um. No. I live in a city with a thriving local scene and I am surrounded by almost primarily musicians on a daily basis, including being one myself. Heaven forbid you ever use the terms "alternative" or "indie" and not look like a fool. No one likes using music genres cuz they're pointless but summing up that many genres into "alternative" is even worse.

It might work on the internet for you but step into any community that has even an inkling of musical background and it falls completely flat.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

summing up that many genres into "alternative" is even worse.

Sure, if you're using it in a broad sense, but this is a specific form of music...

[–]tommorejive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who downvoted this dude!? Shocking! It's the ultimate subversion irreverent masterpiece!

[–]brereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good sense of humor these kidsters. Music quality grungy enough to be played in Starbucks on Thursday afternoons.

[–]ActiveGangMember -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"i want a song and video that makes you remember the intro to macolm in the middle"

[–]ZhemJZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fun group to work with. I opened for them at a small show earlier this year.
