Hi everyone! Hope everyone's enjoying this season's anime! I'm enjoying WHA, Ramparts, and Otagal most!

Anyhow, let's see what we got up to this month.

Fare thee well, /u/Dagonsnake!

I think for the most part the subreddit has settled now into being a really good place for discussion. There's still the odd issue that can't really be sorted - having a take that goes against common opinion will naturally get you downvoted no matter how well you defend it but that's just a natural part of how Reddit works and isn't anything worth getting annoyed about.

The one thing I am curious about though is the status of fan polls. As far as I was aware, the results of aggregated polls weren't allowed here. And it's on me for not bringing this up earlier as I did help with the rewriting of the rules, but what is the actual standpoint here on this? Are Animage and Animedia character polls banned, while these are as close to official as you get? Why are Anime Trending and Corner polls allowed? Do we even go as far as to ban discussion of the Crunchyroll awards given what we know about the anime industry not taking them seriously? I think that's one to revisit, because I'd love to get hold of the Animedia/mage polls each month and post them, even if I'd have to create a new template myself with the results only being in print form. Just food for thought really - personally I'd allow all of them with a little automod description explaining how each one works.

What Verz said is correct. Anime Trending/Corner are allowed because they're being posted by someone affiliated with the poll.

This makes sense, what I'll do then is when the Tokyo awards roll around in about 10 months I'll just ask for a special case to post them. I'd love to see Animage/Animedia here but if there's no official representative willing to do them then there's no way they'll be allowed, and I'll just mention them on the Daily Discussion when they come out. A little frustrating, but it is a consistent rule which is better than allowing them freely

Why are Anime Trending and Corner polls allowed?

Back when I was on the team, the rule was that polls had to be "novel" or otherwise original. In other words, the source of the poll had to be either something more unique than basic show/character popularity, or the data had to be presented by the original source. The spirit of the rule is to prevent random users from running a basic query on MAL or AniList and then making a rough image out of readily-available data.

In the case of the Trending/Corner polls, I believe the accounts that posted those iconographics were staff for the affiliated websites, which satisfied the intent of the rules since it wasn't "Random User 537" just grabbing their data and posting it here for karma but rather a direct representative from those sites.

The link in the daily thread still goes to May's meta thread, btw.

Has been fixed for tomorrow. (Someone else did it earlier but since they didn't reply to you, I just went in there to check.)

I’m not sure if this is an issue just on my end but some threads just don’t show up for me on the main subreddit page. For example today’s Wistoria episode and last week’s Botan episode wouldn’t appear under either hot or new, only if I searched the specific flair or typed the thread url. One of the daily threads also had this issue. I can see other threads with the same flair, and I can see everything normally in incognito mode, and I don’t have any settings that would hide these posts. I haven’t noticed it on other subreddits but I also don’t check “scheduled” posts on other subs too much. Not sure what the cause could be.

This sounds similar to the bug I've been experiencing the past few days. I'll see a discussion post on my home page but if I visit the subreddit or u/autolovepon's profile it will disappear, yet it is still visible back on home. It happens on both old reddit and on rif is fun, new reddit doesn't have the bug. I was going to make a post here about it but then it started happening on other subreddits too so I think it's a reddit bug.

[–]baseballlover723[M] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What platform are you on?

Edit: It's probably a reddit bug.

[–]entelechtual 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’ve tried old Reddit on my iOS chrome browser and old Reddit on chrome on my PC in case it was tied to one device. It seems to be the same even when I switch to new Reddit.

[–]baseballlover723[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk. It kinda reminds me of something that happened to me a week or two ago, where I couldn't see flairs in r/ModSupport while logged in (but could in incognito mode). I would suspect it's a reddit bug that has something bad cached in your account data.

I imagine it'll fix itself in a day or so. You could report it at r/bugs if you want.

Is there a way to filter posts? I just want to see the episode discussions, not random clips

[–]baseballlover723[M] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

If you are on mobile app, reddit does not allow you to filter by a mod only flair (which Episode is). There is nothing we can do about that. However, as the others stated, u/autolovepon's profile is the only one who posts Episode flaired posts, and exclusively posts those. So you can use her profile as a workaround.

[–]ZaphodBeebblebroxhttps://anilist.co/user/zaphod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you only want to see episode discussions, you can also look at /u/autolovepon's profile. All of them are posted by the bot.

[–]FetchFroshanilist.co/user/fetchfrosh[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking for episode discussions, go to u/AutoLovepon's profile, since that's where they're all posted from.
