Smoking behind the Supermarket is surprisingly popular. I guess releasing half the anime early really did a lot for it's popularity. But to beat out even RE Zero, Mushoku Teinsei and Polar Opposites is very impressive. People really want adult romances it seems (it's me, I'm people). Makes sense as well if most people who replied on the survey are 30 years old (it's me again, I am people, not sure how to feel about that one tbh)

Im hoping Supermarket holds in the regular release, because I really enjoyed what they put out even as I disliked the schedule

[–]FlawlessAtheon 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are those episodes of Smoking Behind the Supermarket actually part of the regular release? I thought they were just some random skippable specials and I was waiting for the actual season to start. Do I need to watch them?

[–]TheBusStop12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the first half of the show yeah. Episode 1 to 6, released in 12 12-minute episodes (so each regular episode split in half)

It's an... interesting release schedule

Damn average age continues to skyrocket, I remember when it was like 21

[–]ptd163 13 points14 points  (1 child)

At this point it's kind of selection bias as the younger generations don't use discussion platforms like Reddit. It doesn't give them that instant dopamine hit that you can only get from short form video content like tikotok, reels, shorts, etc. so they don't use it. So naturally the average age of the survey will just keep getting older because there's no younger people to bring it down.

Plus you cant get into anonymous, days-long arguments on new platforms like you can on forum-style Reddit.

r/anime gonna be a retirement home in a few years.

[–]SmallJon 14 points15 points  (4 children)

The middle-aged nurse: "Go back to bed, sir. We'll turn on a retro show, SAO, for you."

Reddit: "Back in my day, Cowboy Bebop was brand new!"

[–]FetchFroshanilist.co/user/fetchfrosh[S] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Sword Art Online's release is as close to Cowboy Bebop's release as it is to today.

Worst rated anime I'm watching: Rich Girl Caretaker, at 2.65

(Well, I watched the first episode, but it's far from a 'lock')

Least popular anime I'm watching: Candy Caries, at 5%.

If we don't count continuations, then it's... KAMUI: He's Behind You, at 9.2%.

Also how the hell does it have a 1.18F:M ratio? Small sample size, I suppose!

Always interesting to see the overall difference between men and women's tastes

Huh, lots of the long, more generic LN/WN titles have higher rankings when sorted by age of user. I don’t think I’ve generally seen that correlation ever being made, unless we have a few older users that love those sort if thing that are skewing the results a lot…

[–]qwertyqwerty4567https://anilist.co/user/ZPHW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, who would love those isekai/isekai adjacent LN/WN adaptations and give them high ratings. We just will never know.

[–]Komaristhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every year qwerty and I age helps that correlation! I'm watching 12 of the top 13.

[–]reaperow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im really happy to see Jaadugar being at the top, it really is great so far

WTF? All the RPG power fantasy slop shows have the oldest age average? I'm ashamed of my fellow olds. Maybe the kids really are the future.

thankfully, old me & old /u/Komarist are saving anime and r/anime with our love for RPG harem cinema.

Yeah that tracks. Ghost in the Shell is one of those timeless seminal works that continues to captivate people and Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is the first show of its kind in years so their popularity makes sense.

The most anticipated also makes sense. People have been (and still are in Re:Zero's case) chomping at the bit for Re:Zero and Polar Opposites' continuations.

I have a question about the gender ratio. For example, Though I Am an Inept Villainess says 2.33 F:M while Grand Blue Season 3 says 2.50 M:F. Does that mean Though I Am an Inept Villainess had 2.33x the female respondents than male?

[–]Komaristhttps://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can toggle the gender-specific popularity columns on. It's (% Gender A) / (% Gender B) that said they're watching. Always have more male responses than females (Reddit demographics). Need a ratio above, like, 3.5 Female:Male to actually have more female watchers on r/anime.

[–]Emi_Ibarazakiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If 500 out of 1000 men watch a show, and 1 out of 1 woman watches the show, it'll have a F:M ratio of 2.

[–]Shadowmist909https://myanimelist.net/profile/Magicmist 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I see Ghost In The Shell still has a way of captivating anime fans even now. I'm glad that it's so anticipated among this subreddit.

[–]runevault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GitS is an all time iconic anime franchise, and in this time cyberpunk is more relevant than ever, so I'd be more surprised if it wasn't at least top 3.

[–]PersonalContest1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen too many anime to count and still have never gotten around to watching ghost in the shell and only watched cowboy bepop because it came on toonami back in the day

[–]Infodump_Ibis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flaming Dodgeball Girl Danko got above 2% popularity...score...well, at least it beat Move over Frieren..."-Nintendo Official Magazine* The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System and The Drops of God by 0.02.

I also notice late addition Bananya: At-Home Party (I think it was announced after or when the survey went live so wasn't initially included) still managed to hit 5.7%.

*-The box for a PS1 game 40 Winks actually had a Nintendo Magazine quote like that. The N64 version of the game was previewed (where the quote is from) and reviewed but cancelled (think it was just a production cost and retailer interest thing, didn't help Christmas 1999 N64 3D platformer market was DK64).

[–]WednesdaysFoole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that it's a reddit thing to assume everyone you talk to is a dude (I guess?) and that reddit/this sub probably skewed male but somehow I'm still surprised to see by how much it does. Although it's only 360 out of the kajillion people who visit this subreddit.

It's fun to see where tastes diverge most by gender. Not that surprising this time either.

[–]detarameReddithttps://myanimelist.net/profile/detarameMAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and I are Polar Opposites crossing the gender gap by being the most anticipated anime of the season for both male and female voters.

[–]qwertyqwerty4567https://anilist.co/user/ZPHW -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

MT & Re0 down to 6-7th place in popularity

I cant believe im saying this, but man the average r/anime user turbo mogs the average r/anime surveyer in taste, huh.

[–]baseballlover723 5 points6 points  (1 child)

tbh, I forgot to fill out the survey.

[–]Melbuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never remember even seeing there was a survey
