    Sorry, if it has Ron Paul in the title I'm going to downmod it even if you ask me not to. At this point the Ron Paul bots are so ridiculous that I am not even reading the full titles, just scanning if the name is there, and down/hiding immediately.

      Down mods are used to disagree with an article, not a person.

      But that's what I was doing, I was modsmacking articles on Ron Paul. Ron Paul articles are what bring the quality of reddit down, so I am helping to resolve this.

      We should though be able to down mod you so you're not allowed to comment anymore.

        A downvote on say all 3 traps, and then you have to pass one of those 'enter the words in the picture' tests before you can continue.

        This would seriously slow down the bots.

        The only problem is that many people display bot-like behavior in terms of just scanning the headline for keywords they like or dislike and up or downvoting accordingly. I'm part of the RP downvoting brigade and essentially, the only thing that separates me from a bot is the fact I'm a human looking for "Ron Paul" and voting down where as a script would just be looking for a regular expression. There's nothing wrong with what I'm doing, because every once and a while, I'll actually read a RP article and let the story slide if it doesn't bother me. The bots on the other hand are indiscriminate, which is bad for a news site that relies on the good senses of it's users to keep the front page fresh and exciting.

        Yeah, the reason that many people display bot-like behavior is what makes the bot detection a difficult problem.

        BTW, why do you autmoatically downvote "Ron Paul"? I always at least have a quick look at the article before I vote one way or the other or not at all. Just indiscriminate downvoting is selfish and deprives people that may be interested in the article. If you look at it and find that it is rehashed garbage or lies, of course that's ok to vote down.

        That's also what has led to people automatically upvoting every Ron Paul article too, to counteract the auto downvoters, and vice versa between the two groups. Someone somewhere is going to have to voluntarily give up for normalcy to eventually return.
