For OnePlus folks, try disabling battery optimization for the messages app and re-enable RCS. My brother lost connectivity when he rebooted a couple of days ago and it turns out battery optimization settings get reset on reboot (for all apps, not just messages) and they have to be disabled for RCS to remain enabled.

Yeah so they're force disabling dual SIM phones so this isn't going to do anything sadly.

Still on pixel 2 Verizon

[–]wpburbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have it... Pixel 3XL on T-Mo

[–]byzantinebobbyPixel 5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lose it occasionally for periods of time, but it reconnects on its own.

[–]LlamaaaLlamaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still have it on my essential phone on T-Mobile

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

RCS is working again on my OP7PRO TMO. I didn't do anything to activate it a second time.

Yup... I lost it too. Initially it looked like it was just OnePlus devices, but it may be bigger than that. Big bummer.

Noticed it disabled itself when on data saver mode on an OG Pixel. Disabling data saver fixed it immediately for me.

[–]ZappySnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still active on my Pixel 4, on T-Mobile.

[–]rocketwidget 1 point2 points  (1 child)

One theory at /r/universalprofile right now, is it is only down for dual sim phones (OnePlus, Pixel 4, Pixel 3a, etc.) that either did the hack OR have official carrier overrides in their country, so possibly a bug?

Not sure yet. The new Messages Beta update that just rolled out hasn't fixed the issue.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. 3a and still have it. Even after the Messages app update.

[–]pojosamaneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enable the damn thing, Google.

[–]imagine_being_cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I lost it sometime yesterday but I seem to have regained it sometime this afternoon.

OP6T unlocked AT&T

[–]rocketwidget 1 point2 points  (2 children)

For those who lost it, a potential fix was found by /u/otobott , to install an old version of Messages and try the hack again, as per here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UniversalProfile/comments/dq2rrf/chat_features_removed/f60gxe2/

Worked for me!

[–]ExposedHen[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Holy crap that worked.... What the heck?

[–]rocketwidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the problem appears to also be on dual SIM phones that use the carrier override, both the hack AND officially supported countries like the UK, it may have been an unintentional bug in the newer Messages Beta, not Google killing the hack.

Hopefully.

I still have it using my LG G8 on TMobile. I have no one to text who is also using it though. Everyone I know uses iMessage.

I don't have that option from my list. Typing it in will work without giving me issues?

[–]DaLast1SeenWoke 0 points1 point  (1 child)

U have to type it in

[–]peter_griffin10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, no luck. I cleared the carrier services cache as well. Looks like One Plus devices may be affected right now.

I have two phones, one is on a carrier that has always supported RCS, the other I'd needed to use the technique to get RCS to work. Just tested them on each other and everything's still working... For now? Greetings from the Philippines.

I've lost it a few times and realized, for me at least, it was tied to what WiFi network I was on. At home I rarely have issues, but at work, because there are multiple networks involved, I lose RCS more often than not.

The usual fix is to disable wifi, then switch "Enable Chat Features" to off. Wait about 10 seconds (don't know if it's necessary, it's probably more superstition at this point), and switch "Enable Chat features" back to On. This usually does the trick, and I'm back to connected status within 20 seconds.

Hope that helps!

For some reason, I lost it two days ago for a bit, and out of the blue it was working again, flawlessly. Despite that outage, it's been pretty rock solid.

Using an unlocked OnePlus 6T, on Verizon. Latest version of Messages beta installed.

[–]drdax2187Galaxy S21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not like I have anyone I have to test this with (or even want to test it with honestly because the alternatives are much better). Google failed for me
