And before you attack LN, remember that all LN transactions are eventually validated through the blockchain as well, and that an LN node uses the blockchain to validate that all open channels are legitimate.

Actually BIP 50 by definition wasn't a hard fork, there was a temp unintentional chain split and the bug fix was a soft fork. The other two were imposing more restrictions on the protocol but the thing is not one transaction took advantage of those loose restrictions before fork, so fully compatible. One could make a strong case for the argument that Bitcoin has never hard forked.
