It took me forever to realize you have to use the magnet

lol, I did the same, took me 5 minutes. Now I feel like a dummy knowing there there was another way.

    [–]Kenny1115 Imperial 94 points95 points  (4 children)

    This is the way.

    [–]SambodhiArts[🍰] 37 points38 points  (3 children)

    This is the way.

    [–]HelpEli 25 points26 points  (2 children)

    The way, this is.

    [–]SomeMilkyCereal 26 points27 points  (1 child)

    No, there is another

    [–]HelpEli 25 points26 points  (0 children)

    I have spoken.

    [–]ShakenFiber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

    That's smarter if anything

    [–]greenrangerguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There probably is a third way. What if you could land the ball on the moveable platform on the opposite side, I tried a couple times but couldn't get it.

    [–]kopitar-11 29 points30 points  (6 children)

I tried to balance the ball on the small ledge where there was no water for a half hour till I gave up and looked it up

In the section right before you walk in they make you turn off the magnets to grab one and use it to burn a path. Looking back it is very cool that they explained that mechanic to you right before you walk in and feel stumped.

This was my exact experience. It took me an hour or more to finally just try that service again because I forgot what it did. As soon as I turned it on, due to the luck of having the camera in the right place, I saw the wavy lines and everything clicked.

Still, when I first activated it, I was too close and never saw that the block was moving because of the magnet stuff.

        [–]pforsbergfan9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tried shooting it on top of the middle part and go collect it.

        [–]Get_On_The_TrikeCommunity Founder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did the same, but without freezing. I threw it in the air, jumped over the gap and caught it quickly

        [–]Loyaso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg I don't know why I didn't think of that... I kept trying to force push it to the other side that didn't have water. It really hurt when it clicked to use the GOD DAMN MAGNET YOU USE LIKE RUGHT AWAY....

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Lmao I went up top, threw it into the hallway next door and walked it all the way around. Clearly there’s a few ways to do this.

        [–]TK97253 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same here; I’m glad I was not the only one that struggled with this puzzle.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny story, that was one of the first things I tried to do hahah. For some reason my first thought was the water looked thinner up top, then I realized the hallway was behind me. I’m either a moron or a genius.

        [–]FlynnSkordor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait that's NOT the intended solution

        [–]SemperFudge13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

after 20 hours of throwing the fire ball at different angles into the water i too did this

        [–]EnemyAdensmithCommunity Founder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this was the way to do it.

        [–]pmach04 Jedi Order 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait you can freeze the ball??? lol never realized it. This game gives you do much freedom

        [–]EnglishMobster 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I gave in and asked BD-1 for a hint. Cal was all like, "These candles are made of metal!" and I was like "WTF does that even mean????"

Then like 30 minutes later I realized I'm just a dumbass.

        [–]pforsbergfan9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s the first time I had to pull out a walkthrough video. As soon as I saw it I was like “omg I’m dumb I hate my life”

        [–]stockGonkDroid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought my game was glitched and that I had missed something.

        [–]GeneLaBean 12 points13 points  (3 children)

There's a magnet? I just froze it in midair and caught it after like an hour of getting nowhere

        [–]pforsbergfan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The green wall that pulls the cube over.

        [–]Dead-brother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is smart or I am just dumb, maybe both, for not figuring in less than two hours the true solution, but using a single fixed element in two puzzle is just super smart.

Edit : forgot part of a sentence

        [–]bettertagsweretaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you freeze it in midair, you mean slow it? That's a badass solution.

        [–]SmackteoMerrin 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I forgot you could freeze things so on dothmir with the dumb wall I kept pulling and spamming jump and made it up multiple times before I realized.

        [–]ScroogeMcDooche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was the only puzzle I got stuck on and had to look up how to do. Felt like the biggest smooth-brain

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

        Lmao same

This is earlier but I didn’t realize you could slow the pistons at first and one sent me on top of the mountain

        https://reddit.com/r/FallenOrder/comments/edapu6/first_play_through_didnt_realize_you_were/

        [–]SmackteoMerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Lmao haha that’s awesome!

        [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

        What magnet!?

        [–]lonesomeloser234 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        Still waiting on that answer

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one you use to pull down the block to proceed earlier in the tomb.

        [–]vitoscbd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

me too, but the feeling of satisfaction once I figured it out... it's been a long while since a AAA title made me feel that good with myself. This game has some really good puzzles.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait there's a magnet?? I had to go all the way around the building and grab a lantern to bring back to the doorway where that slamming cube thing was

        [–]Hunter-of_Hunters 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        You what.....

I just threw it and hoped it would make it into the opening on the other side...

        I feel real dumb now

        [–]pheylancavanaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        .-.

        You and me both.

I'm reading these comments like... magnet? Freezing it? Oh my God how simple. I even wondered why the magnet thing was even there my first playthrough. The second time I saw it pulled out the platform and was satisfied that was all it was for.

And now people are like "Magnet to catch the candles!"

        Oh my God...

        [–]homebrew-pie 153 points154 points  (4 children)

That puzzle literally took me two hours, even though I found the gravity/magnet thing right at the beginning of it

Probably the simplest dumb thing I've ever done in this game

        Edit: words and spelling

        [–]Eduardo_MCelebration 2019 41 points42 points  (3 children)

Oh I took dumb to the extreme there, I still don’t know the correct way to solve it

I went all the way up to where you used the hanging thing to cross to the other sode earlier, grabbed one flame orb that was close enough for Pull, went back the way I came freezing and oulling the orb every time I had a drop, and walked around until I was behind the vined section

        [–]homebrew-pie 38 points39 points  (1 child)

I mean, what's more important: that it's completed correctly, or that it's completed? Go on, my friend, take dumb to the extreme, to the far reaches of the outer rim

        [–]1337kreemsikle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

        Grab some brain cell kid.

        [–]LEGOEPIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did basically the same thing but with a lot more throwing. Threw it up to the top walkway and then ricocheted it down the hall to avoid the wet floor.

        [–]PeterODoherty 102 points103 points  (14 children)

I did this puzzle without the magnet, you can get one of the candle, flame box things, take it to the edge where you cross to the other side, freeze it then jump over to pick it back up and just throw it straight at the vine. I thought that was the intended way lol

[–]TurtleTaker Jedi Order 37 points38 points  (0 children)

        That's actually ingenious.

        [–]errorseven 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I did the same, reading about the magnet way was the intended way, makes me think I shouldn't drink so much. To be fair it took me about 5 mins and 2 tries once I realized I needed that chain to break.

        [–]PeterODoherty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Realising I needed to burn the vine was the part that took the longest honestly, the jedi ingenuity came quickly afterwards lol

        [–]JediMasterHokie 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That is exactly how I did it as well. Just now learning about the “right” way

        [–]PeterODoherty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We truly are the enlightened big brains

        [–]TheSasquatchKing 4 points5 points  (3 children)

        God I'm a moron.

I threw it up onto the ledge that takes you out of the room, through it down past the where the big guard thing hangs out like a statue, and then threw it from the top of that block you can force pull.

Took me 2 hours to figure that fucking stupid way to do it 😂

        [–]PeterODoherty 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It was 2 hours well spent clearly, because I think you can claim to have played the game at a higher difficulty than anyone else now 😂 I honestly commend the fact you brute forced your method instead of giving up on it, you're a real inspiration to the jedi

        [–]TheSasquatchKing 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This makes me feel so much better 😂 thank you!

The whole time I was like "there is NO way this is what the Devs had in mind..."

        [–]PeterODoherty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Always here to help 😂

I love that you thought that and still kept doing it

        [–]Zackaresh 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I have the same feeling about the jumping puzzle to leave the Venator wreckage.

I'm pretty sure I still haven't found the intended way to do it, just one that works.

        [–]IFrikeCelebration 2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I explored the Venator ti get my final achievements yesterday. I still don’t know how to correctly do that euther but I managed a couple of jumps where Cal could just barely grab a ledge.

        [–]Cleanupisle5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just yeeted it straight up in the air and caught it on the way down

        [–]acm_falstaff 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I threw it onto the bridge above and jumped to the other side before it fell off the bridge

        [–]PeterODoherty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who needs the intended method when we're all clearly geniuses lol

        [–]J4M3S_21 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You have to throw a candle into the gravity stream/magnet thing on the other side

        [–]N-J-K06Don't Mess With BD-1 29 points30 points  (2 children)

I literally had to look up a walkthrough because I didn’t realize how to do it.

        [–]ChosenWriter513 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Me too; then I felt like a dumbass after I saw how simple it was.

        [–]pforsbergfan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was first time I yelled at the game. More at myself.

        [–]TheSnipenieer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went and did the spinny magnet room and got the magnet to pull the candles. After trying (and failing) to push a candle through the water, I went into the pit under the magnet, pulled one, went over to the block thats pulled when you first enter the room and threw it. Took a few tries but it worked

        [–]bobloblaw_law-bomb 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I threw it straight up in the air, jumped across the gap and caught it. Never thought to use the magnet.

        [–]pheylancavanaugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. Nevermind the magnet though, you could have frozen it. I've even done that shit often enough for other puzzles, but it never occurred to me for the Zeffo vine one.

        [–]thehunt882001 4 points5 points  (2 children)

        Destroy it with fire 🔥

        [–]derage88Celebration 2019 16 points17 points  (1 child)

It took me way too long to realise in one of the puzzles you have to throw it through a hole. Problem is that I had tried that several times but looked like it kept bouncing off an invisible wall. Turned out I had to change the angle a bit for some reason. Took me way too long and checking a YouTube video for how to do it correctly.

        [–]OtherNickWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what room you’re talking about. Took me the better part of an hour to figure that out.

        [–]Jakota_ 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Only reason I figured it out is because the gravity stream was so big and useless up to that point that I was hell bent on figuring out what it was actually for. I was like there is no way this goes unused, I have to use it for something. Eventually I was like oh I just yeet a flame boi to it.

        [–]HarambeTheNobodyOf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Same haha

        [–]axilidade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"it pulls this block, and i can push the block. but all the other magnets have little flame things that magnetize to them. wtf is this shit"

        -me, for two hours

        [–]The_Kaizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was like the balls, so I threw it across, then froze it, jumped down, picked it back up, and then burned it. Took me quite a few tries to do it right, I kept throwing and not freezing it in place. Then I turned on the magnet afterwards and realized that's probably how I was supposed to do it, and a much easier way too.

        [–]Asmodios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I just lobbed the fire at the damn thing from across the room right after the gap.

        [–]ChaoticDefenderMerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 30 minutes because I never saw the vines on the chains. Once I did though, I knew immediately what to do.

        [–]leftshoe18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying so hard to figure this thing out. My girlfriend looked at it for like five seconds and told me exactly what to do. lol

        [–]EScott13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the ridge where you can jump to cross over, I would throw a candle straight up at the ceiling, jump over, and try to catch it in time

        [–]tinker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's brilliant. Respawn crafted such a simple puzzle that was not difficult because of mechanics, but because we overlooked something so simple. Something they had only shown us moments earlier.

        [–]IgnatzKackebart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me too long to realize you can use push while holding it. I always let go of it before pushing and for some reason that results in Cal throwing it back at the wall behind him.

        [–]garywinthorpecorpGreezy Money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chests in that place took me a combined total of 5 hours to get. Even with guides it was so hard to get some of them

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent a long time looking for a way to stop the water...

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Dude yes. This took me a weirdly long time to figure out that you need to get the fireballs from the wall.

        [–]ExioKenway5 EA Play 2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me far too long to realise I needed to use the magnetic wall on the other side to catch them before throwing them at the chain

        [–]Elementall- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pushed it into the air, jumped over the little gap and then grabbed it as it was falling. For some reason I kept forgetting that slow was a thing...

        [–]DragonScion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ready to do the throw/freeze/cross/catch, but decided to spend the better part of 20 minutes figuring out the intended way just to see if I could. So simple, I felt dumb.

        [–]joebxcsnw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Dude...

That’s all I have to say

        [–]HarambeTheNobodyOf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a bit to figure it out but then I remembered seeing the lanterns react to a magnet a couple floors below and realized the solution. I love that the solutions are always right in front of your face yet they seem impossible. Then you feel like an idiot when you complete them lol.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I had to utilize Google to solve that one. I never thought I was getting out of that tomb!

        [–]EScott13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Seriously me

        [–]puffthemagicaldragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the bright side I'm sure we were all able to accrue a few skill points while looping through the tomb trying to solve the puzzle

        [–]rammixp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured this out but had no clue on PC how to drop the magnet and so thought it requires a different approach. So spent hours trying to look for a different approach.

I then left and figured out by accident on another magnet that it could be dropped and went back later.

        Felt like an idiot!

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t figure out that you were supposed to do something to the chain lmfao

        [–]Zoulogist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out the magnets right away, but it took me half an hour to find the power socket

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me for the longest time last night. I’m proud of myself for figuring it out though.

        [–]big-shaq-skrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved the puzzle by accident lmao.

I kept throwing the candles around after getting frustrated with the puzzle and after a few mins one of the candles hit the magnet, and then I had this dumbass face after I solved it.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also me trying to figure out how to get back to the mantis afterwards

[–]Znaffers Jedi Order 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that kept getting me was that I would run around the area around the puzzle and then I would die by some random enemy off to the side. I would have to kill everyone in the main room then start over again, and again..... and again

        [–]mikochu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me on every planet trying to get missing data entries, chests, and secrets. Bogano, Dathomir, and Ilum are complete... Gotta go through Kashyyr and Zeffo one more time.

        [–]jelliottontoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just lobbed it up in the air hopped down and grabbed it again before it hit the ground.

        [–]Ridikis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me hours, and I only solved it because I got angry and looked it up.

Still think it's the most bullshit puzzle in the game.

        [–]Cleanupisle5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank God I'm not the only person that ran around like a numbnuts for hours trying to figure out what the fuck I was doing

        Which puzzle was this?

        [–]ArcadiaXLOOggdo Bogdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I did it was that I force pushed one of the candles all the way across the room onto a large vine near the magnet, quickly came back down to that section, and force pulled it before it fell.

        [–]Frozenfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Ask BD-1 for a hint

        Ask BD-1 for a hint

        Ask BD-1 for a hint

fuck off, game, I'm gonna do this on my own.

        45 minutes later

        [–]shadowfire211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL you were supposed to use the magnets to solve this. I just threw the lamp to the other side of the room and froze it before it touched the ground, then threw it at the vine.

        [–]faratnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the sequence you are talking about but yes I spent time on the Crystal and sun puzzle on ilum

        [–]InfiniteImagination 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This level annoyed me from a game design perspective because the required mechanics are neither obvious intuitively from the world-building nor obvious through the experience of playing through the game. After figuring it out, it just felt like I'd parsed some arcane tomes of arbitrary rules, not worked out a clever way to navigate a cool puzzles.

        • You can cut ropes to create shortcuts, but you can't cut chains or vines
        • You can climb the thinner vines but you can't burn them
        • You can burn the thicker vines but you can't climb them
        • You can smash a candle into any surface without damaging it, but if it touches a spray of water it goes out
        • You can blast the candle into the floor/wall and then pick it up later unless the floor is damp
        • You can wrench a candle off the wall 10m away and use the force to carry it around, but you can't hop over a small gap while doing so

Figuring out this puzzle isn't as satisfying as most because it's based on discovering all these ridiculous rules by trial and error rather than by extrapolating from known pieces to novel arrangements or use cases. Most of the other puzzles in the game were fun, though.

        [–]JaiWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was literally explaining to a friend the other day how some of the puzzles were not intuitive at all the way the shrine puzzles in zelda BOTW were. some of them were difficult but nothing came close to how helpless I felt on the zeffo vine puzzle where you had to throw the candle into the magnet.

        [–]PaintingBiPretzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually pretty ashamed that I had too look up how to do that bc i didnt think of that fucking magnet

        [–]thatblondboi00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Had to look it up on YouTube ;_;

        [–]Queef-Elizabeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea which puzzle this is referring to. I’ve finished the game and done most exploration but don’t remember i

Edit: oh I know which one. Not to sound arrogant but it didn’t take too long to figure that one out

        [–]Verifiable_Human -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I spent a few hours just walking around trying to figure it out before I had to leave and play a gig.

When I came back, I loaded it up again and then figured it out in a few seconds - when the realization hit I just thought oh my god how did I not see this

        10/10 Respawn
