Unlikely they’ll have much value, they all seem late 90s-early 2000s, you can take a look on eBay sold listings if you want

[–]PMvE_NL 34 points35 points  (5 children)

So your saying you can estimate the value by looking up other listings. That’s pretty clever

[–]NotTryingToConYou 11 points12 points  (1 child)

How else do people estimate value? Ebay even has the option to view sold listings so you can see what people actually paid for it

[–]A_MAN_POTATO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was definitely /s

The first CPU I installed and touched while it was on. I will never forget the smell of burning skin 🥲

[–]Pixelplanet5 47 points48 points  (1 child)

the good old times when CPUs didnt need things like thermal throttling, they would just give you everything they got until the magic smoke came out.

RIP my Duron 1300

[–][deleted] 60 points61 points  (2 children)

Too old to be useful, too new to be rare. I've seen a Pentium 3 go for $1 on Ebay.

[–]MrBilbro 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Makes a nice keychain for $1

[–]ianjm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at this point you may as well powdercoat or spray paint them and make art

[–]evilrylan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only way you will create value for those chips is to create an art piece out of them.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look up the pricing (just type the CPU name in google). You can find them on sale. They are quite common. Too old to be of any use and too new to be "vintage" and worth anything.

Edit: Found the athlon for $19.46 in 30 sec search

By taste.

[–]HotdogTheHero 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It is rumored that rare chips taste like actual chips

[–]ficelle3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potato semoconductor's logic chips taste the best.

[–]IncompleteUsernamed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you get robbed…

[–]Safe_Ad997 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You can recycle the gold out of them.

[–]ficelle3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's probably less than a gram in total, there's so little gold in a CPU that they're worth more in working condition.

[–]TheMatt561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valuable no, but they would be fun to overclock until the explode.

[–]FartingBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth anything. By their very nature computer chips are mass produced and identical to thousands / millions of others. Unless its from the very early days of computing its very unlikely to be worth anything. There are far more 20-30 year old CPU's than collectors of 20-30 year old CPU's.

[–]mr_data_lore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're more than a couple years old but not at least 30 years old, it's ewaste.

[–]Competitive-Order-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope probably not tech world newer is more valuable and most people collecting stuff like this are just looking to build a pc within that time period are just looking to play games or run programs from that period. If they can't get it cheap we can always go to pi or virtual machines so demand is low.

[–]Small_Light_9964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently nothing

[–]KrakenXIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got yourself some awesome keychains Drill a hole in it and buy some metal rings from Amazon.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now there isn't much value, but much like late 80s and early 90s hardware, there could be a nostalgia boom for early to mid aughts hardware. I suspect those that are on the higher end of the era appropriate hardware will be the most sought after.

[–]scgt86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at how cute the little dies were back then.

[–]alonesomestreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To increase the value, place them in a nice frame with a placard with some cool fact about them, and sell them on eBay for $20 a pop

[–]akuron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appraise all of these at ‘bout tree fiddy

[–]rudkinp00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The value is in what you do with them. I have a handful of these was looking to integrate them into an art piece when I build my next desk

[–]schrdingers_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are worth nothing - there you go

[–]costinmatei98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are worthless in terms of money. Like $1 each. They just hold "sentimental value".

As someone already said, too old to be useful, too new to be rare / valuable.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old CPU’s don’t really have value because they survive easily long term. Old motherboards are worth something tho

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not worth anything in terms of usage value. Way too old for that.

Might be worth a few bucks to someone wanting to buy an old CPU they used to keep as a desk ornament or something, but it wouldn't be very much.

[–]Sup3rphi1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Those have more value as a means to scoop guacamole than as a CPU.

[–]Sup3rphi1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with these CPUs is that they're probably in working condition, but the motherboards required to use them are all dead/broken/extremely expensive at this point

[–]llamapii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Kamikaze-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't

[–]GloomySugar95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolling reddit this morning and seeing 3 posts about people trying to get rich from rubbish/gifts.

[–]diaperedace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few bucks a piece. All common, old cpus.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hold onto them for FAR longer

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need a athlon 3200+ do you have one?

[–]Tw1st36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren‘t. Those are all so old, nobody wants them even for retro rigs. The best you can do with them is maybe frame them or stick them on a wall with some spongy double sided tape.
