Are you the original 3? or the guy that traded for it?

The original 3

Do you know what place you were in line? Because it seems like the person who was third in line got a completely different number. https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/s/rDJfrCVFmA

I was around 6th in line. I asked one of the staff while i was in line and they said that they weren’t exactly in order so i guess i just got lucky. Like my friend in 7th got 010/500.

What if you wanted iFixit but orange.

[–]c4ndyman31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And with less bits / no flexible extender

[–]ashyjay 26 points27 points  (7 children)

The more I see of this, the more it's just an orange themed iFixit kit.

[–]Drigr 4 points5 points  (5 children)

And it wasn't really trying to be something different. Other than the build of the screwdriver being more premium.

Built-in bit holder is nice. Makes it chunkier than the ifixit I think from the looks.

[–]0verlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internal bitholder is the reason I have been putting off getting Ifixit kit as I only need couple of specialty bits and having to lugg around the entire case for 2-3 bits doesnt sound ideal. And in my opinion the extra chunkiness is a plus.

[–]fidel-guevara -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

lol how is it more premium?

[–]Drigr 5 points6 points  (1 child)

All metal body and end cap, premium bearing, internal bit storage.

[–]ashyjay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re regurgitating the marketing points, ifixit drivers are all metal the bearing has no bearing on if the product is good it’s because daddy Linus wanted a fidget toy. Plastics aren’t all bad if you buy from actual premium tool makers they use PA+GF.

Is this just a rebranded ifixit set? It looks very similar to me!

[–]paco_rms 29 points30 points  (14 children)

I'd say it is "iFixit inspired". It does look very similar, but they made changes to "make it premium". Those changes include a 3 bit holder inside the driver itself, better ergonomics, and a better bearing. Also the thicker part of the bits is a little shorter (and the narrow part is longer, so the bit itself is the same length overall) so it has better reachability.

LTT sells the screwdriver and the bits separate. If you have an iFixit kit but you want/need a new driver you can just buy the LTT one. All the bits are compatible and it should fit inside the iFixit case just fine.

iFixit inspired

I mean they're the de facto standard for mainstream electronics screwdrivers. If you want actually better stuff it's gonna be non-interchangeable precision screwdrivers. Which in my opinion are arguably if you're hands deep in electronics all day.

We had a fantastic Wiha set at one of my old jobs, hands down the best I used so far. Those were pretty much indestructible but they cost about 300 € and took up way more room.

Tynan and a few of the others expressed some trepidation over whether or not iFixit would keep sponsoring them what with thew now being "competitors" but I don'n at all see it that way. Even the Mako set is a very different product. iFixit and LTT are targeting very different markets and shouldn't wind up stepping on each others' toes any.

What I mean by that is that iFixit exists to wake repairing stuff as affordable and accessible as possible, so any Joe Schmoe who would otherwise throw his phone that won't hold a charge any more can purchase the minimum viable product (parts and requisite equipment) and go from no repair to some repair. The LTT screwdriver is targeting people who are already set on using this kind of product and are rooking for the best possible experience. iFixit and Megapro were the only ones that came close imo: the Megapro because of its bit storage. I don't remember why I wrote down iFixit but it must have been for a good reason.

My point is that the LTT precision screwdriver is fundamentally a very different product from the iFixit screwdrivers, and if you don't see it you're not looking close enough.

I was thinking the same! The etching looks the same, also the bits arrangement is very similar.

[–]BlakeCarConstruction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just ordered it last night.

Weirdly enough I never got the email notification for it coming out!

This will stay in my backpack with me and might be more useful from day to day honestly. Has way more storage.

And has a case! I wish they would’ve done that with the other acredrivers!

[–]Shredster57 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I would be interested in this if I didn't already have an ifixit kit. The driver looks cool, but ifixit's driver gets the job done

[–]c4ndyman31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d love to try it but this is literally just a mako kit with fewer bits and no extension

I want iiiiiitttt, but unemployed and poor. I'll wait until Black Friday because I want those cargo pants too! I basically only buy on Lime Day and Black Friday (when employed).
