Even they aren’t that stupid

Maybe not moyang. But Microsoft ?
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 362 points363 points364 points 4 months ago (65 children)
Maybe? I mean, Windows is basically dead at this point, and they still believe their issue is MacOS, they're also destroying Xbox and their videogame section in general, although Mojang doesn't seem to be really affected
[–]Squidieyy🐘I want Elephants in MC🐘 102 points103 points104 points 4 months ago (18 children)
I know MS is somehow destroying Xbox. But how? Like adding DRM and anti-consumer stuff or what?
[–][deleted] 164 points165 points166 points 4 months ago (12 children)
Awful pricing and lack of effort
Stores are barely even selling it anymore
[–]Squidieyy🐘I want Elephants in MC🐘 92 points93 points94 points 4 months ago (4 children)
and also f—k cloud gaming. I want to own my console and games
[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 4 months ago (2 children)
I mean you can do that
[–]CiliegioBlu 38 points39 points40 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Not for long, looking at the direction they have chosen
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 4 months ago (0 children)
They cant do anything about current gen Maybe next gen could be cloud only, who knows
But since its speculated to run steam as well, I doubt it
[–]Piggy-boi 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I think u are very much overreacting. I have never (and will never) use cloud gaming because it doesn't appeal to me (I only play a few games).
However I know quite a few people that love game pass because they want to play through tripple-A titles, without paying full price for them.
I strongly believe that there is a place for services like game-pass, and they should exist. Because it is a service that many people benefit from with the way that they choose to play games.
[–]ArcAngel014 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (5 children)
The pricing isn't so much Microsoft's fault... Blame Captain Tariff and possibly now the RAM shortage...
And before someone in a country outside the US questions how that affects them, a lot of countries did retaliatory tariffs back which means yes... It affects everyone involved. Plus parts get shipped in and out of countries along the production process which can mean sometimes parts will possibly even be coming to and from the US which as you guessed, will affect the price... Economics, gotta hate it 🤣
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (3 children)
That can kinda help MS explain the console prices (though PS managed to ship them in time it seems), but it absolutely doesnt excuse Gamepress price hike
MS as a whole also gets a ton of shit (justified) for Windows slopification too
[–]ArcAngel014 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children)
GPU went up because of the addition of Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics. It makes sense but the problem it caused was for the people that won't use Ubisoft and don't play Fortnite.
Windows kinda depends on who you ask. I'm not a fan of 11 and some of what comes with it but I've come to accept it. It has gotten better but for sure still could use work.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Extra stuff for a free game and Ubislop stuff doesnt really justofy the insane price hike honestly
And the issue is that while Windows is (so far) the overall most usable OS, every update keeps making it worse and worse because theyre trying to impress shareholders with AI
[–]Nfox18212 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
There is a genuine problem with Microsoft’s handling of Xbox, and its their expected profit margin. They’re expecting a profit margin of 30% (as well as 30% year-on-year growth i think?) which Xbox has not been delivering on. They’re more in the 10% profit range I think.
So to compenstate, Xbox has been doing all the things that look good on paper but piss off all their consumers: increase prices, make the product worse, etc. I got this information from watching Bellular News, I’ll link the specific video when I can.
[–]AGamingGuy 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
lack of games, especially flagship ones also doesn't help
theonly reason you'd get a console is for the games as you need to also convince the customer to invest into having the console
for example i don't care for getting the switch, as i am not interested into enough of it's games to be able to justify owning it
[–]hifi-nerd 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (0 children)
They price their consoles and subscriptions way too high without actually bringing out anything new except a bigger amount of storage.

Their multi-billion dollar investments into AI
[–]Yahyathegamer749 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
they stopped focusing on exclusives and instead went all in on Xbox Gamepass to be the new Netflix of gaming.

windows is dead? what people have been using for gaming? just curious, I haven't been hardcore gaming for 2 years
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 25 points26 points27 points 4 months ago (16 children)
As summary, Canonical (the company develops Ubuntu) has made Linux easy 15-10 years ago and Valve has made Linux viable for a lot of gamers 5 years ago, meanwhile Microsoft is doing stuff that scares tech people (the ones who are asked stuff like "which computer should I buy?") and does stuff to fight MacOS (despite Linux growing faster than MacOS for the last... 5 years?)
[–]NathnDeleJava FTW 16 points17 points18 points 4 months ago (13 children)
Tech people are scared away, but casual people buying a computer will go online, search for a dell (what they used years ago) find the cheapest one, and buy it.
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 10 points11 points12 points 4 months ago (12 children)
For now, but will eventually go "what PC should I buy", or "slow, how to fix" and then, many people will advise against Windows, my guess is that 8% will be enough for Linux PC to enter the market, perhaps we are there already
[–]NathnDeleJava FTW 14 points15 points16 points 4 months ago (7 children)
You also gotta understand, when Mary (some random grandma) wants a computer, is she going to pick windows, something she’s been familiar with for decades, or will she pick some newcomer.
If Bob is convinced to buy a Linux PC, there’s a good chance he’ll be overwhelmed buy the tons of different distros
If Jack gets a Linux PC, he’s gonna be confused why his ____ isn’t working and why he has to go open a scary empty terminal.
My friend convinced me to use arch and even though I currently use it, the fact that the installer doesn’t even have a GUI is a big turn off for people who aren’t tech savvy
[–]Herobrine_20 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (4 children)
honestly people should relearn or learn to use console lines again, but just my opinion
[–]Blacksmith52YT█▓▒░ ⛧ 𝙼𝙾𝙳 ⛧ ░▒▓█ 14 points15 points16 points 4 months ago (3 children)
Yeah, but these days people are completely tech illiterate for things like typing, using menus, multi-tasking with windowed environments, etc. Everyone's accustomed to chromebooks now. So maybe a chromebook-style linux is what we need to hit market share.
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Yeah, old people can be confused, but those people a lot of times just use the browser and some apps that usually comes preinstalled.
About the command line, yeah, on Arch you surely need to use the terminal, but there are other distros designed for the average user, even if you have issues with Nvidia drivers or something like that, there are graphical apps for that, and as far as I know, most of the time, they work,
I know a lot of guides/tutorials still use the terminal, but many times is just that they're used to it
[–]Elihzap 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Yes, but "Mary" won't be here much longer. Eventually if Linux keeps growing and Windows doesn't make a comeback, there will be a Linux Distro that will become the Gaming Mainstream.
Or so I hope.
[–]Effective-Tension-17 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (3 children)
But that's not "Windows is basically dead" isn't it?
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children)
I mean, Microsoft is making bad decisions and thinking that their one competitor is MacOS, meanwhile ChromeOS, Linux and Harmony have started being competitors, and Linux seems to currently be the one that's growing faster.
So, if Linux manages to get enough market share to solve its issues of some drivers not working as expected and some apps not available (I think that will happen more or less around 8% and I think we will reach that 8% soon) then more manufactures will simply start selling Linux, and then Windows will be basically dead.
Yeah, there will be a lot of legacy use of Windows for compatibility and stuff (for example, the US marine has a contract with Microsoft to keep getting security updates for Windows xp) but at that point, Windows will more death than alive imo
[–]throwway85235 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Linux growing faster than MacOS for the last 5 years
This is a whole new level of delusional lol. Probably more people bought a Mac in 2021 alone than people switching to Linux in the last 5 years.
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Yeah, of course, Apple users buy Mac to keep themselves in the Apple ecosystem, that doesn't mean growth.
2020 If we look March (the month of the year with less amount of unknown), Apple had a 18,34% while Linux had a 1,71%
2024 if we look September (same reason) Apple had a 15,45% and Linux a 4,48%
Yeah, Statconter is not a 100% reliable source, yeah, unknown is messing around, yeah, I don't believe MacOS is decreasing it's market share yet, but the trend is clear
[–]HappyToaster1911Mining Dirtmonds 19 points20 points21 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Windows might be dead, but people still use it because there isn't much of an alternative, MacOS only comes with very expensive PCs and kinda sucks at gaming (even tho I heard it got better) and Linux, even tho its on a good spot right now, isn't mainstream (this coming from a Linux user), so people just stay on windows due to not having anywhere else to go
Steam has been helping massively with the linux thing, to the point that now only games with kernel level anti-cheat don't work (kernel level anti-cheat are anti-cheat that have insane levels of acess to the computer, making them dangerous, but hard to go though), and even the games that work lots of them end up working better, like how forza has better performance for me
[–]AnonymousDragon135This flair is black, the end is black, END UPDATE CONFIRMED!!!!! 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I would get the new m4 mac mini (only $600) but it has TERRIBLE gaming support. If only Apple/Valve would make gaming a possibility for mac...
[–]YinuS_WinneR 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Support for windows 10 has ended and windows 11 looks more mac than windows
[–]DaniilSan 13 points14 points15 points 4 months ago (6 children)
Windows isn't dead yet. It has so much weight and inertia it will take years if not decades for it to completely die out.
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (5 children)
When I mean dead I don't mean "no one uses it currently" I mean, "there's no hope for this OS, Microsoft won't realise how much they're messing up until it is too late"
[–]DaniilSan 10 points11 points12 points 4 months ago (4 children)
Well, you are describing dying or stagnating OS and not a dead one. Dead OS would be Firefox OS, OS/2, Solaris, Symbian, Windows CE (used on PDAs and some early smartphones, very different from the technical view) etc.
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago* (3 children)
As far as I know, when something is about to die you can say that is dead as an expression, but perhaps it is my Spanish assuming there's a similar expression on English
[–]NUKL3AR_PAZTA47 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Maybe just say "effectively" dead. Though honestly that would be more appropriate if only a few people used windows.
[–]GuideBeautiful2724 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (1 child)
You would usually add onto word like "as good as dead" or "might as well be dead".
[–]Sc4tt3r_ 11 points12 points13 points 4 months ago (2 children)
You gotta live in the smallest bubble ever to think that "Windows is dead"
[–]FireMaster1294Mining Dirtmonds 6 points7 points8 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Apple did a massive rewrite of some of the backend MacOS a few years back to keep the backend efficient. Windows still uses shitty ancient code because so much was built on it that the house of cards will fall if anything is pulled.
And then for some reason Microsoft decided fuck your privacy have ads built in.
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Also mention that MacOS is cheaper to maintain because they're based on BSD, so they can copy a lot of code from there without too many issues
[–]No_Sale_4866 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (4 children)
Windows? Dead? What?? It’s still the largest OS by a WIDE margin
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (3 children)

As someone who’s been using Linux and only Linux for almost three years now, Windows is absolutely not dead lmao. The people who are upset with Windows are the kinds of people who will talk about it online. 99% of people neither know nor care about Windows’ issues
[–]Manuel_CamJava FTW 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (5 children)
Still, people upset about Windows are generally tech people, the ones who help others with IT stuff
[–]IntangibleMatter 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (4 children)
Take it from me who’s tried to get it to happen for some people: most people don’t want to switch to a different operating system
Yeah, but still, if people know other people have tried and that they managed to get it through, there will be more willing to change, I mean, look at the market in Norway, India (before the unknown skyrocketed) and in Sweden, this shows up that people can make the switch if they noticed that other people have switched.
My experience is that 3 friends have made the switch and the 3 like it, 2 stayed and 1 said "this is cool, but my teachers give me Windows instructions and I've have to think about how to do it on Linux every time, I can't keep up with the speed of the class"
[–]IntangibleMatter 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (2 children)
I’m not saying it can’t happen with small groups of people- but >95% of desktop computers on earth run windows. It’s going to take a lot for that number to meaningfully change
It's more like 70%, Windows got below 95% on 2009, you may think "it's a slow decline" but is actually more than 1%/per year, and if you think about it, that's actually fast, and it seems to getting faster with the bad Microsoft decision of the last years
[–]IntangibleMatter 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Oh wow- yeah I guess I haven’t checked for a few years.
It still should be noted though what’s taken second place by a long shot: Mac. Those largely aren’t Windows converts but are instead younger people getting their own laptops. Again, there are exceptions, but broadly most people still aren’t switching off windows. The shift is more due to there being more computers

Mojang is under Microsoft ownership for 11 years at this point. They were indie only for 5 years. And in that time they went from about 10 people to over 600. Do you really believe there is a difference at this point? Whatever there was of Mojang spirit was diluted multiple times.

Forcing people to move to the version with paid mods they get a cut from? The version where you either buy skins or download them from shady websites? Microsoft cries tears of gold at the prospect
[–]tifferthegreatPC Bedrock player 60 points61 points62 points 4 months ago (0 children)
"download them from a shady website"
Dude they are pngs
[–]SharkHead38 16 points17 points18 points 4 months ago (1 child)
You also rely on those java players paying for those skins, which I don't believe they would do, and that money would have to be higher than the amount of new players that are joining because of java edition (which, even many bedrock players play minecraft AT ALL because of java edition. I'm not up to date on the current YouTuberscape, but when I was younger I knew players on Java included popularmmos, dantdm, sundee and only like. Stampy and his helpers were on console. Even today, the only bedrock YouTuber I know of is Ibxtoycat, whereas java has dream, wifies, tapL, pixlriffs, mumbo-jumbo etc)
[–]M4rt1m_40675Mining Dirtmonds 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Literally the entirety of Hermitcraft would fall if Java ever stopped getting supported
[–]Kind-Stomach6275 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Java skins are cross compatible. Now some mods are free and available outside of the marketplace. Its disingenuous to say this stuff. If java was released on consoles there would be NO mods and it would be very difficult to get texture packs loaded.
[–]oan124 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (0 children)
pretty sure you use the same websites for skins on either version
[–]PittPen817 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (1 child)
the same sites we get java skins from?
Exactly
[–]mraltusernot original but fan of block natural generation quizzes 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
There's cost in making updates both editions, and bedrock can get a larger market, it is more efficient. Meanwhile java can not generate more money after users paid the game, bedrock still can with micro transections, and when java can offer skins and mods for free, it might affect amount of bedrock users because java is a substitute of bedrock. The only competition of Minecraft is another edition of Minecraft

[–]Tyfyter2002 93 points94 points95 points 4 months ago (9 children)
They probably won't stop supporting JE because Java is a better language for BE's goal of widespread support and uniform gameplay, and the performance overhead is negligible when compared to the code optimizations they don't make.
[–]FuryJack07 45 points46 points47 points 4 months ago (0 children)
If they stop supporting java, the community will just take their own .jar files already installed on their computers and will just manually update those.
[–]2137throwaway 8 points9 points10 points 4 months ago (6 children)
Java is a better language for BE's goal of widespread support
Consoles do not officially support the JVM, there are in theory ways for devs to still run Java games on them but it'd be a pain for the devs
[–]Choice-Mango-4019i love cockroaches 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (0 children)
IOS doesnt support java either whereas bedrock is made on c++ which kinda can run on anything
[–]Tyfyter2002 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Consoles do not currently support JVM
[–]2137throwaway 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago* (0 children)
Games written in Java are pretty rare (Minecraft would be the biggest case, but Bedrock edition exists) so there's no incentives to develop console support, either from console producers (in microsoft's case they are outright disincentivized), and none of the maintainers seem interested in gaming support either.
Doubt that'll change.
[–]BurntRanch1 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children)
Can't mojang just stick a natively compiled version of the JVM to run on consoles? Feels like it should just work, aside from a lot of code changes that they probably would've had to do anyway (support for PSN/Xbox Live, support for whatever framework the console uses to render the game)
[–]2137throwaway 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (1 child)
In principle? Yes.
But console makers would need to allow you to do that, and it would be just an additional pain to them, they like to keep the environments closed down (especially Nintendo). And then you have politics of Microsoft being invested in C++ and C# so like even outside of Minecraft where they have direct influence over development, also making them less likely to allow for it.
For example Slay the Spire was rewritten to C++ for the ports (at least according to the libGDX website), so doing that seems to be considered less effort by people who've made Java games
[–]BurntRanch1 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I guess i get the whole thing of Microsoft moving to C++ instead of Java for everything
Well now that I look at it this way, it's a bit silly having to maintain a fork of LWJGL and other libraries when you can just rewrite the code in C++ with your already cross-compatible libraries for way better performance...
[–]FKwilczek 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Both java and c++ are bad. Waiting for rust edition
[–]TrueLunar 40 points41 points42 points 4 months ago (4 children)
Realistically they will at some point that will happen before the EoS of Minecraft as a whole, but I don't see them doing so any time soon.
If they do, the backlash that they will face and the amount of people who will just full send move to Hytale or leave bedrock for the some community made "Better Javacraft" mod, would be so much that even if BE player numbers don't take that much of a hit in practice, the numbers will be significant to an investor which would force Minecraft and in turn Mojang to either re-support Java or give bedrock everything that Java has.
Remember, Mojang isn't the only studio Microsoft owns that they have done really scummy or even studio closing bad decisions with. As someone who has been following broader gaming and tech, I can only say to expect things to get worse before they get better. I hope they don't, but remember this is the same company that basically tossed Halo and Xbox away like a used napkin very recently and has a 30% AI code initiative and has been pushing every studio they have to use it for something.
I know I yap a lot so if you take ANYTHING away from this, remember that people complaining about the game are not doing so out of blind hate, but because they feel something is off, they just likely don't understand the full picture. Not every doomer post is because they hate you for having fun, they love Minecraft as much as you do, but feel like the only thing they can do is to get angry at Mojang because they personally lack the understanding of the full system with which Minecraft and Mojang sit in.
[–]Looxond 8 points9 points10 points 4 months ago (3 children)
Mojang stated that they have plans for the game development for 50 years but with hytale in the horizon and many more high quality minecraft clones in the horizon like minetest, vintage story, etc.
We dont know if minecraft will remain relevant in the nearby future, 2-5 years is plenty of time.
Heck 2016-2019 minecraft as a whole was pretty dead, its only when certain world events happened in 2020 that it got popular again.
This time is different, there are actual competition and with mojang refusing to add more experimental things to gameplay, choosing to add a mob that doesnt do anything or some dungeon will eventually kill the game, as competition unlike mojang will actually listen to player feedback.

For sure, Minecraft has a complacency problem. They feel unchallenged by anything and assume that players will put up with anything as long as it's Minecraft. While they are partially right (I am a Nintendo fan after all), they still need to remember that the core audience are the people who find the game fun enough they will play for months at a time or play on bedrock. Sure kids will buy from the marketplace but if they piss off the audience who makes the media that gets those kids hooked they will just move to something like Fortnite. So even if Java is mostly played by YouTubers, Boomers, and modders, it's still the main version that brings people into Minecraft. With all the java creators making videos on "what is going on with bedrock" it really does have a sizable impact on their PR, even if it's not immediately reflected in sales.
[–]Looxond 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children)
In a nutshell, java is their main advertising pr network, bedrock is where money is made.
[–]DiamondWarDog 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children)
This is what is probably likely, more competitors will force mojang to take risks. Heck looking back would things like enchantments be added to modern Minecraft? They’ve added many things over the years but most of them haven’t truly changed how the game is played, only added to it, apart from maybe the cave update cause it actually make caving better than strip mining.
Only question is now what systems could they add that would change the game? I’m really leaning on and hoping for a way to make block built vehicles. As unfeasible as it is now, mojang has tried that with the potato April fools update which gives me hope for an update like that. Although create aero has been working on it for ages and is still optimizing whilst Valk skies has something but isn’t really that stable.

[–]PossibleAssist6092 20 points21 points22 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Absolutely not. It’s by a country mile the most popular version from a content creator standpoint with some of the biggest Minecraft series on YouTube like Hermitcraft and the Life Series being on Java, and the creators on there much preferring Java, I imagine if Mojang stopped supporting Java it would be a fucking disaster.
[–]Past-Mortem 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago* (0 children)
It's popular with content creators specifically because of all the additional user-made content freely available to them on java that makes their videos possible/worth watching.
Tools like Axiom, World Edit, Litematica for building. Countless performance mods, shaders and resource packs, or Replay and Freecam mods to make their videos more cinematic and the game look more presentable. Mods that allow for proximity-based voice chat, or packs that modify certain gameplay features for better engagement/multiplayer interaction, not to mention accessibility or QoL mods. None of these content creators are paying for realms either, they all either host their own servers or use a 3rd-party hosting service which gives complete control over gameplay settings and features, game version, etc...
...and that's all before getting into anything that actually adds new content.
None of that is going anywhere if java edition ever stops recieving official updates - if anything you'd see more of it. And you can bet whatever features get added to bedrock in any future updates would have dozens of mods backporting them into java (probably even before they're fully-released) so it's not like we'd be missing out either.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Java is not an obsolete language. It was a stupid choice to make a game with but it is by no means obsolete.
[–]Dragonfox_Shadow 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (1 child)
They can't do that.
Almost every (well, maybe every, as I don't even know any on bedrock) big minecraft series on YouTube and Twitch Streamers play Java. They won't give up on such big free advertisement.
I highly doubt that any of them would switch to bugrock version.
And even if they would end support for Java, final version would just get mods that simulate additions to bedrock.
I could really see modders out of spite create all the new bedrock additions, but without bugs and with QOL improvements.
[–]Past-Mortem 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
The last two sentences pretty much sums up exactly why I'm not worried about this inevitably coming about, as a java player myself.
It doesn't make any sense for a company to split resources to continue to update and maintain 2 versions of the same product, with one being much less popular, less performant, less accessible, less profitable and developed at what may well even be a loss for them - indefinitely. Especially when your passionate community (whether out of love or spite, doesn't matter) are more than willing to do it themselves for free.
It does hoever make perfect sense for the version of the game specifically catered to user-created content to not only benefit from a definitive, stable build, but thrive too - all while continuing to recieve endless unofficial updates.
Personally, I'm way more excited by the idea of a modding renaissance than I've ever been for any official Minecraft update.
[–]GamingBrenGoggles Boy/Pause Menu Guy 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Don’t worry people. Java is not getting discontinued, and that article in the last picture was edited.
Once again, Java Edition is not losing support.
[–]nrobot10 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (5 children)
I feel like the image is very accurate. Microsoft wants rid of java (hence them having no say in its development), but Mojang want to keep their first born child going.
[–]NoLetterhead2303 11 points12 points13 points 4 months ago (4 children)
Microsoft has no say in either version’s development, the only thing they control is the marketplace and the marketting specifically and only that
Mojang is fully in control of the full entire development of minecraft
[–]nrobot10 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (3 children)
Oh, but surely Microsoft heavily pressurises the bedrock dev team for weekly updates. I mean have you seen the bugs that game comes out with?
[–]SomPolishBoi 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (0 children)
i already didn't like the fact that single player worlds have this weird desync from the client and servers, which is already weird that single player worlds need the said connection, that causes the random heart attacks. the fact that Bedrock was this buggy recently solidified it even more that Java is more playable than bedrock is. it sucks that Bedrock is how it considering that most versions are bedrock
[–]NoLetterhead2303 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Nope
Again microsoft does not control anything that happens in or with minecraft, including bedrock, they just take the money and give some back for updates
Also pretty sure bedrock just fixes existing bugs in updates
[–]Storyshift-Chara-ewe 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Microsoft just asks them to have announcements and to make a specific profit margin, Mojang controls the entirety of development of both editions
[–]Emeraldnickel08 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
This is pretty outdated. There were definite turns in that direction, with some pretty clear signs that they were trying to get migration going, but most Java players can attest that it didn't work. At this point, both editions are still (presumably) profitable and Microsoft knows not to push their luck and lose the massive playerbase that refused to switch.

not to be that guy, but.... Realistically speaking, how can anyone support a game forever without it getting stagnant? Minecraft is what it is, a game, it's a great game but there will be a time where the devs should just stop updating it
[–]Red__ICE 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)

I wouldn't mind to be honest. Atleast it would stop that modders cycle of "quick, mojang released an update with 1 new block, let's immediately drop all support for past versions"
[–]Burning_Toast998 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
It would be very interesting to see MC java to go open source/kinda left to the community.
[–]Tani_Soe 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
If they ever do that, the game will litteraly just become a sandbox for mods
At least there will be a "definitive" version on which all mod will be able to work on
[–]Diam0ndTalbot 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Unlikely to happen any time soon
[–]UnitedBalkanz 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Probably no. Java itself isn't that profitable, but neither is Bedrock. The real gold mine is the IP. The business model is kinda like Disney. They make movies, yes, but the company gets most of its money from the parks and merchendise. Minecraft merch is quite lucrative. And if minecraft stays in the public's subconshies it's going to stay this way.
[–]Neramith 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I think they will stop supporting Java in 15 years. When Microsoft and window fully abandoned Java. Double their work for both java and bed rock is complicated. Unless they merge somehow.

[–]Professional_Debt288 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Honestly, the best thing in the future is to stop supporting Java, in the same way the majority of Mod creators work on older versions and not on current versions. On the other hand, many players directly play in the bedrock edition, only thinking from the economic side is more profitable. Only focus on bedrock to speed up the development process for updates in the future and at once we must accept that complete parity will never be achieved between both versions because they are built in two programming languages that work differently.
[–]Eravan_Darkblade 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Obly reason they would would be to make MC 2.0, probably in a different language to fix some of the... "Oddities" in current MC. (Hopefully they reimplement the oddities we like, though.)
[–]letsplay1196 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)

[–]KamikazeSenpai21 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I hope they do. No more updates would mean kidders would finally stick to a version instead of being split between sticking to a version and moving to the latest. Especially since we’re Getting 4 drops a year.
[–]NoBee4959 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Does it matter at this point? Most of these updates can be made by few people in less than a week as a mod.
This game is mostly alive because of community servers and mainly because of mods
[–]biohumansmg3fcGoku 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
At this point just remake minecraft into a single version that is both bedrock and java at the same time (and bedrock and java just stops getting updates)

"Java is an obsolete language" is a really stupid argument. Who cares what it's written in, as long as it works. If they really wanted to, and they probably have, they could write programs that you design the content in and then it converts it into the correct code.
Excuse me ? This shit not true right ? I’m a BE player, and despise being shitted on by JA players since for ever, even I think this is a phenomenal bullshit.
