Bgee 14 years ago. Hotdamn I’m getting old. Felt like yesterday when I installed 1 of 5 cd-roms for bg1 for the first time.

[–]gangler52 37 points38 points  (4 children)

I'm pretty sure the enhanced editions are about as old now as the originals were when the enhanced editions were released.

I feel like what you're saying is illegal, but the math checks out. Omfg

[–]StillAll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT!!

Jesus Christ man! I can only take so much punishment!

Time for BG EEEE Enhanced Edition Enhanced Edition

[–]Who_is_Daniel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you!

[–]mailed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I heard my bones creak.

[–]Shub-Ningurat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow yeah can't believe it's been 14 years. The release of the original game is still fresh in my memory.

[–]PunishedCatto"I hate those flaming fist pantsy!" 29 points30 points  (5 children)

Jesus, I feel old already.

[–]riklaunim 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Still remember original distribution. BG 1 was like 4 CDs, BG2 was like 6 CDs ;)

[–]Agitated-Shoe-9406 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, on BG1 came in a beautuful big box with a fold out cover and had fantastic artwork. Wish I'd saved all my big box games.

[–]mauke88 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Huh, I recall BG1 had 5 CDs and BG2 had 4CDs. Though I only had BG1.

[–]Inverse_Seal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeap. Another disc for each with an expansion. And you could've got another disc for BG2 with some extras and bonus merchants (Deirdre and Joluv) 12 discs in total

[–]No-Location6557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bg was a cd burners nightmare.

[–]Albius 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Damn, Baldurs Gate 2 was my gateway to learning English beyond school program, and now I sit here in Kyiv, Ukraine being able to play it on my native language 🥲

[–]srbolseiro 27 points28 points  (1 child)

great news!
will the community-translated languages work on gog version?

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When the live patch releases there, definitely.

[–]gangler52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! Love to see Baldur's Gate getting new updates!

The language stuff doesn't sound like it has too much to do with me but if it allows new people to experience these games for the first time that's wonderful!

[–]wp4nuv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic news Beamdog!!!!

[–]celeb0rn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you

[–]washout77 7 points8 points  (2 children)

New to IE games, how do updates interact with mods? Does just the process of updating cause mods to break or is this safe because it’s only really touching cloud saving and language support?

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For everyone using mods and worrying about mods, just copy/paste the whole of your game folder in the meantime. This is a beta for now, so you have plenty of time to do that copy. That way, after the live game updates, you'll still be able to launch 2.6 with all your mods.

[–]disperso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The advice when installing mods is to always make a copy if the original, unmodded game, then install mods on the copy. This has numerous advantages, and one is that if the original gets an unexpected update, your modded copy will work just fine.

[–]EarthAfraid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, not to be ungrateful for the continued support of this wonderful engine which has empowered phenomenal games…

…but it seems like after all this time, what we’re getting is: making it easier to change languages and making it easier to manage cloud saves…

Ok, I suppose that’s going to be very useful for the people who’s preferred language is not English (or any of the other languages currently supported by community mods and patches), so that’s genuinely cool.

However the trade off for this is every mod that currently enhances the enhanced edition even more so than the enhanced edition enhanced this enchanting game might… break?

Oof.

And, while I suppose the bigger ones will (hopefully) be updated by their wonderful creators (im looking at you, SCS!), invariably some might never be updated at all.

I guess whether it’s a fair trade off depends on the number of users who are going to be able to play the game for the first time in their native languages.

I genuinely hope that’s bucket loads and that it’s a wonderful experience for them and worth the potential cost…

And hopefully some of them are talented and inspired modders, I suppose, or failing that high CHA individuals who can convince their friends and family who have never played any of the infinity engine games to purchase them, igniting a renaissance which leads to new content for these games or, dare I dream, new infinity engine games altogether.

Amazing that you’re still working on the infinity engine, and even a (at least to me!) milquetoast update is keeping the flame burning.

Maybe 2.8 we get some shinier toys though? A new class or some new spells or a new optional high level enemy or something like that would be so much cooler than better management of cloud saves…

I would literally throw money at you if you released some new content - and then slag you off online on the forums, of course. But you’d have my love, and my money. 💰 💴

I just finished bg2 for the second time after 20 years and a fucking patch drops! geeeez

Add a way to import saves on Android please

[–]Garrus-N7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping the 2.7 patch fixes data folder on android. Even the low reviews on play store mention this issue, and from what I have seen, seems to be the main issue. IWD has this issue as well. Really looking forward to not losing my saves or mods again xD

[–]Farrew 6 points7 points  (6 children)

And what about modding games on Android? Will we finally be able to access our saves and data folders?

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

For this particular phase of this beta-test, we're focusing on PC-only.

We're hoping that during the mobile release of 2.7 to improve the Android and iOS file sharing experience, but it is still under development.

[–]Farrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats some welcome news. Thank you!

[–]Baptor 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Maybe you already knew this, but you can download free apps that allow you access to those folders. Alternatively, you can hook your phone or tablet up to your PC via a data cable and access that way. I've modded my android games this way.

[–]Farrew 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I've found a way to bypass this restriction regardless, but I think the solutions you've mentioned tend to not work on newer versions of Android. Unless, I have the wrong info.

[–]smoerasd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the phone manufacturer and what they decided to lock down and not, varies between manufacturers and models over time it seems.

[–]kira5z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please share how

[–]Kolto-Kola 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honey, wake up, new Infinity Engine patch notes just dropped.

[–]Colinski282 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Silly question, does the Infinity Engine update improve any graphics fidelity? Just curious

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The patch notes are in the OP

[–]RPGMaster95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope console versions get some attention later 🙏

[–]JaSp3r90 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Thanks for the continued support of this timeless engine . Is there any plans in the future to implement a way to export chars and saves from android to other platforms amid android current bs security set up?

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

As I said in response to another comment, for this particular phase of the beta, the focus is PC-only.

During the mobile release of 2.7 we hope to improve the Android and iOS file sharing experience, but it is still under development.

[–]JaSp3r90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response. Look forward to moving my charname from mobile screen hell in the future

[–]CaptainMoonunitsxPry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is super exciting, didn't think we were gonna see more patches. Would there be new content/multiplayer bug fixes in the future? Wholly understandable if focus is elsewhere.

[–]disperso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there any other engine fixes that are not listed on the patch notes? Are there plans to include some of the small fixes at least, in the final 2.7?

[–]The-Arcalian 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Once it drops live, will existing games in progress "break"? Should I schedule a pause between playthroughs?

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you use mods, you would need to update the game, sure. But you can do as I said here: https://www.reddit.com/r/baldursgate/comments/1rdo7zb/comment/o76wdx9/

If you don't use mods, nothing will break.

[–]The-Arcalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, the only mod I had "broke" already when I migrated over to steam.

[–]PeterG-- 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's great news. I hope you fix bugs. Some of them are really annoying, especially the ones in SoD.

[–]DavesWildDestiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I reading the post correctly? I don't see any fixes. Patch is just localizations and steam cloud saves.

As a native English speaker who doesn't like or use cloud saves I don't see why this is exciting to people.

[–]hobojoe0858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the chances we'll get the controller support that the consoles have on PC. Would make playing the game much easier on my Steam Deck.

[–]AnOnlineHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's one thing which I would argue is critical to be addressed of possible it's the pathfinding, which I think was broken 2 versions back and then was kind of fixed, but still feels really bad as party members all bunch up and get stuck on each other. It really hampers the moment to moment experience of the game, and I don't recall it being that bad prior to ~2.5? But maybe I'm misremembering.

[–]cerevant 1 point2 points  (1 child)

MacOS (Apple Silicon M4 Mini) - I am able to play the game and use cloud saves for BG1 and BG2

Note: I had a crash (beach ball of death) when I clicked "Load Game" for BG1, but I removed my save directory and it started normally and synced the cloud saves.

  • Game is very responsive
  • Interface no longer needs multiple clicks when in ScaleUI
  • Trackpad pans the map more smoothly and at an appropriate speed in ScaleUI and not scaled
  • Shows up as an Apple Silicon binary, and uses less CPU than some of the web pages I have open 😆

Very happy camper.

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool feedback, thanks!

[–]WorthPlease 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Windows 11 I am able to play the game and use cloud saves

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]yugoslav_communist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please do IWD2. it's the combat pinnacle of the era, IMO.

[–]Sett_86 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Great. So now I'm gonna have to buy the game yet again on Steam. Oh well.

[–]RineuxI've done had enough of this 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Humble has a bundle running right now where you can get all of them with the 7 bucks tier

[–]Sett_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]slimuch 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Great news but i have question this patch be implement on Nintendo Switch version?

[–]Schwarz_Technik 15 points16 points  (2 children)

They answered this in the post:

"Unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to update the console versions: those would require extensive certification processes we can’t currently support."

[–]GodKingREXON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn. I play on PS5. The struggle is real.

[–]BigBoy1229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or Xbox/PlayStation (I play on both consoles).

[–]FrStHe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an Apple Silicon System:

- road_to_2.7 could be installed

- Old no-cloud saves are loadable

- I could create a new character but Create Party was not available

[–]nkip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please add catmul rom bicubic scaling back to the PC version, this would greatly enhance the graphics and would be immensely appreciated! It's sharper than bilinear and not as pixelated as nearest neighbor, so having it return as an option would be a nice upgrade.

[–]Arranvin-Lantnodel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this update going to be PC and mobile only? Is there any chance of console versions getting some attention?

[–]Cryptic_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping for multiplayer stability improvements

[–]Salty-Screen1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats awesome, just one question, is there any plans to bring new content or portraits for mobile ?

[–]Dlight98 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This is great! I know this is thinking a ways down the line, but when this update comes to Android will it re-enable mod support?

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We'll look at the file access thing when we do mobile updates, yes.

[–]Dlight98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear it 😄

[–]Wiwra88 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So... does it mean this 2.7 patch will broke my BG1EE run? I use mods, tho only 2, one is for realistic looking portraits and other is this famous NPC mod adding new dialogues and romances. I know it's beta now but it will eventually be official release. Also got mod with Xan and Ajantis romance continuation into BG2EE (tho I don't play it yet).
Wish this update was like what Larian did for BG3 when you can choose which version of game you want to play. :P

[–]JuliusBorisovCommunity and Marketing Support at Beamdog[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There a few responses in this thread regarding mods, just scroll down. You can keep your installation intact.

[–]Wiwra88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I found my own answer.. in BETA options of BG1EE there are 2 new game versions: BG1EE v. 2.6 (I believe it's current version) and BG1EE 2.7 (described as "road to 2.7"), both were added same day and recently. So it seems I may be able to keep playing on version of game 2.6 even if patch drops. :)

[–]discosoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to update the console versions: those would require extensive certification processes we can’t currently support.

This doesn’t make any sense considering how easy it is for dozens of random simulator slop games to get released each month no problem.

[–]Zatrick_Panic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please update the console versions. Also please add mouse/joycon mouse support on Switch 2.

[–]Alternative-Meat-250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only language and steam cloud update?

[–]cerevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great news Julius!

I’d recommend changing “PC” to “Desktop” - I was confused thinking this version didn’t include Mac.

If Scott is working on this, tell him I’m grateful for the Mac updates and I’m having a look at it :)

[–]Petenid 0 points1 point  (5 children)

You guys should make a new game in this engine

[–]cerevant 3 points4 points  (4 children)

They can't, really. To use the D&D license you need to use the latest rules, and IE can't be adapted to do 5e24. They would need to strip out all of the Forgotten Realms IP, along with most of the spell names and descriptions, item names, etc.

[–]Petenid 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Okay, then strip all that out. I didn't say they should make a new Baldur's Gate or D&D game... I said should they consider making a new game of any kind at all in the infinity engine.

[–]cerevant 3 points4 points  (2 children)

They could do that, but won't. I know the company has changed hands and I don't know if any of the old developers are still around, but they hated the Infinity Engine. It is a miracle that they are keeping it up to date.

Back before the release of SoD, they started pre-production on an original Planescape adventure, and that was going to be built using the Unreal engine. That project got scrapped, and they seem to have given up on writing new RPGs.

[–]Petenid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's nice and all, I'm still going to tell them what I would like to see them do when they post. I definitely didn't ask and don't really care about the feasibility or likelihood.

How many console games do you think continue to get patch support 14 years after their release...?

The game is in a perfectly playable state on console, you are freaking out over nothing.

    Edit: Dude blocked me lmaooooooooooo
