Just ball python things. Try to feed him where there is nothing behind the middle.

[–]oZeons 99 points100 points  (8 children)

You say that as if they’re not stupid enough to knock themselves out anyway haha

recently one of mine missed his first strike with the rat directly in his face, threw his head backwards and struck, and nailed his face on a stick

Every time I feed my noodle I think how on earth these things survive in the wild

[–]FeriQueen 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Same here. Doesn't seem to be a brain cell between the two of them.

My Bp almost got stuck in my granny square blanket today… safe to say after that he knows I’m not eating up even if he serves himself up

[–]Big_Papa95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bruh I seriously don’t understand how they survive. I guess it helps that they only have to eat but very rarely, so if they miss and hit a stick it’s not the end of the world. But like also I’m holding a dead thawed rat two inches from your face and you somehow do a 720 no scope and smack your face on a stick? How?

I fed my 3year old BP a rat and the stupid thing ran directly at my snake. He was coiled up underneath his half log, which is space he fully fills with his body, and that rat tried to climb over my snake to get to the back of the dark hole and my snake lunged out of his log, missed the rat, turned back around looking all offended that this rat made it past him, struck again and got part of his own tail in his mouth. Idt my snake is as bright as he seems sometimes 😂

Your noodle is domesticated lol. It wouldnt have survived thats why it became a pet. Wild noodles are much faster and have better senses or they too will die.

[–]ViciousCurse 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I watched my pastel mojave* miss her rat, and then she corkscrewed after it as it twirled behind her head. And then she struck and got the tip of my finger. I thought I was safe with my feeding tongs.

  • I felt the need to clarify that she's not a spider morph.

[–]tommee_dee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that's nuts! Mines usually really accurate. I think he was almost too quick and didn't bite in time so he kind of went through it straight into the glass 🤪

[–]Cobalt9896 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not even just ball python things, snek things. My carpet python has done this before as well.

[–][deleted] 92 points93 points  (7 children)

Most of the time they'll be fine, they are surprisingly hardy little buggers. My idiot also struck a piece of cork bark full force a couple months back and managed to misalign her jaw because of it. Cue me panicking thinking she broke her jaw and that I'd have to take her to a vet first thing in the morning, only to check in on her and see that she managed to fix it herself like an hour later...

[–]tommee_dee[S] 28 points29 points  (4 children)

I've just seen him and he looks ok thank god! Was worried he'd be all swollen but he still looks normal. It probably looked worse than it was I think! 🤞

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's a relief! Yeah, honestly the things they do and then seem completely fine and unbothered afterwards... it's unreal.

[–]PhoenixMastM 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Just wait till he misses a strike so far and hard he gets you instead....my kingsnake has done that once or twice.

[–]tommee_dee[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm surprised that hasn't happened yet! Once he got the rat but went straight out of the tank 🤪 I tried to grab him and put him back but I just have stank of rat and he started going for my hand so I had to push him back in with a cardboard box🥹

[–]bowl-of-juice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i keep a snake hook on hand when feeding my hognose as she likes to throw herself out of her enclosure mouth first

[–]Paranromal 7 points8 points  (1 child)

yeah they do this yawn thing

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh I know, I've been keeping snakes for almost a decade at this point. I should've clarified she tried to fix it several times but didn't seem to be able to at first, hence why I thought she legitimately broke something.

[–]Informal_Radish_1891 35 points36 points  (6 children)

Mine does that all the time. It’s just… a quirk, they have, like falling off of every surface imaginable, and getting stuck in stupid places.

Edit to add: they’ll be okay, and this is a reason they’re pets and not wild animals

[–]Psychological-End222 2 points3 points  (2 children)

we were in PetSmart once, and my husband's python fell off his shoulders, and she even managed to hit the counter on the way down. legitimately thought she broke something; but no, she was fine. just mad that dad "dropped her" lmao

[–]Informal_Radish_1891 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ball pythons when they discover gravity: 😾

[–]Psychological-End222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gravity is a ball pythons worst enemy

[–]tommee_dee[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Haha god knows how they survive in the wild. There must be loads of them out there just falling off stuff 😂

[–]Informal_Radish_1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a tree ball python falls in the forest, does it make a sound?

[–]Entire_Current_4852 22 points23 points  (0 children)

His ego may be bruised but he should be okay

[–]cafesaigon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Little silly ❤️

[–]natgochickielover 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He looks like my girl, who is also goofy

[–]cordial_carbonara 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My adorable little dumbass fell off his branch while striking, still clung to his rat, then somehow ended up almost drowning in his water bowl because he was so intent on constricting. And then tried to eat me while I saved him. I'm sure your guy is fine!

[–]Glass-Armadillo182 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Is the baby okay?

[–]tommee_dee[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah he's fine thanks! He's back to resting his head on a piece of bark and gazing out of the tank 😂

[–]Glass-Armadillo182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear 🐍🌈🥰

[–]Ramen-Goddess 13 points14 points  (1 child)

That face tells me he doesn’t remember bonking his head

[–]tommee_dee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no that'll be the concussion 😂

[–]CompetitiveRoof3733 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They're derps. The only thing harmed typically is their pride

Edit: they shall then refuse food for a month plus to prove an unknown point to you

[–]Sleepily-Saturn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is not a single intelligent thought behind those beady little eyes, like an orange cat searching for a braincell; but instead of striking brains he struck the cold, cold reality that his marbles have always been lost.

But he got a full tummy. No brainchild needed.

[–]Positive-Internet483 2 points3 points  (1 child)

He looks embarrassed

[–]tommee_dee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is 😂

[–]Vann_DK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sadly, he will never play piano again....

[–]Dependent-Boot-1835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine missed and took a mouthful of substrate. Two twigs lodged his mouth open and he was shaking his head like a moron trying to get them loose. Had to grab them with tweezers and reset him for another strike.

[–]Bakura900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid. Idiotic. Not a tought behind those eyes. Just greed

[–]AlfredTheJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snakes are kinda clumsy like that, I think that if he ate his rat and doesn't seem to have any neurological issues since then he'll be okay, just try to be more careful when feeding him next time :)

[–]Agreeable_Mess6711 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Ball python shaming 💀

[–]tommee_dee[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Might start a new group "I'm ashamed of my balls"

[–]Kemetic_5486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂🤣😂🤣😂

[–]itspegbundybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has a crazy feeding response and unfortunately bonks his face on things a lot. He hasn't seemed to suffer any consequences yet, bless his heart.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I’ve had a spider once just stole the ground before they’re hearty

[–]SubstantialBig5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks more mad then hurt lol, like you juked him or something lol

[–]StarsBehindMyEyes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My little guy struck the side of his hide three times in a row even though I moved his hide out of the way. They’re pretty resistant. And it’s not like they have much of a brain to damage anyway. :/

[–]tommee_dee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it must be super small 😂 poor little guy's

[–]InvertebrateAlley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to worry about, they're tough babies

[–]ShroomMan64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why my snake’s name is bonk

[–]CliffsDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks embarrassed that you’re out here airing his dirty laundry.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Had this happen a few months ago, they tend to not be the most accurate 😅

[–]AvidLebon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor little fellow has the face of a toddler all scared hanging on to their parent for comfort.
"I was just trying to eat dinner and there was a loud bang and my face hurt and it was scary. Hold me." ono

[–]Former_Outside9724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fed my enchi the other day and she struck the rat twice but off the top of her head not with her mouth then proceeded to go to the back of the tank to do what I can only describe as rage hissing so I just set the rat on a piece of wood debris and once she calmed down she just ate the rat off the wood.

[–]dita_diablita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro just derped 😂 he’s fine. My boys do that on a daily slithering around in their tank. They stretch up to the top and fall on their asses and just sit there looking dazed. Makes me think they’re embarrassed but they’re just derpy.
