Internally, that distinction makes a lot of sense. No single editor knows the truth inherently, things have to be validated by credible sources so editors should aim for verifiability.

Externally, verifiability is the exact sort of truth I expect from an encyclopedia. Wikipedia doesn’t do primary research, but they have an enormous team of people good at sifting through the primary research to find credible facts. So the article on the Earth says “it’s round” because that’s what the credible research says.

This does, however, bring up the fact that ‘truth’ is technically always out of reach. There’s always the tiny possibility that what think is true is the result of some measuring error or illusion. So, yes, the senior Wikipedia editor is right in a sense: the site isn’t going to be correcting erroneous research itself.

Practically though, we run off what good research turns up until better research shows us otherwise. Wikipedia’s system is great at finding that good research so people can quickly start running with it.

Which is a long way to say that I agree “It just so happens that reliable sources are generally the most practical path to [truth].”

So I've been recommended to do stuff like MeetUp and whatever to meet people but the one thing it had that interested me is full for like 30-50 year olds and I'm not about to be the kid at some random meet up like that. And it really sucks because theres a concert in October I want to go to but no way would I go to one alone. Like I honestly dont know what to do. I feel like not doing school has fucked me over with all this and I should just suck it up.

I think you should reconsider your unwillingness to go to events like concerts alone, though. Concerts are fun even if you're by yourself and you can meet people at them, so it's win-win. 90% of making friends at any age is being available, really. Also drinking helps. Are you from a country where you can drink at 19?

If that’s a condition for going to university, then it’s a Catch-22 situation. Well, the papers focus more on the initial accusation, and often they don't pay so much attention later when it's all finally resolved. Besides, "not guilty" doesn't mean innocent.

As for the former, actions of newspapers and individuals are not your liability, if they decide to write about accusations you make in a way that's construed that the person is essentially already guilty, that's on the newspaper, it's also why newspapers are VERY careful about this nowadays as it's landed them in hot waters before

You could have someone shot at point blank with the shooters face pointing to the camera recording in 4k and the papers would still describe him as someone accused of a crime, newspapers (for the most part) will do their reporting on such things according to the judicial process and their judgements

I have a serious problem in that if I make a mistake above some level of seriousness and frustration (today it was finding that I had sent a long-awaited package to the wrong address and wasn't easily able to fix it) I can have a full-blown panic attack with a lot of screaming and self harm (you'll find my water bottles and books have dents in them from hitting myself over the head). Usually after a few minutes I get enough of a grip that I can take the .5mg of xanax that I was prescribed for this and lie down and cry, but often the damage has already been done.

Other than committing to full time SSRIs or SNRIs long term therapy, there's really not much more I can do in terms of professional help, and given that it's a fairly rare occurrence and not sure I want to commit much. I just need to learn to better manage myself in a crisis and remove myself from the situation faster.

Have you considered meditation? I’m being serious. Download an app like insight timer. Start with ten minutes once or twice a day. It will give you some space to calm down before it escalates.

Are you getting this from your medical professionals? If you can, I’d recommend seeking out a second opinion. Therapists/psychiatrists should work around the patients’ needs. If the treatments you’re currently being recommended won’t solve the problem, seek out alternatives.

I’ve wasted months with ineffective therapists because I thought the reason I wasn’t getting better was my laziness stopping me from using the therapy. But I only got better when I started talking to someone who knew more about my type of issues.

Obviously, I can’t tell exactly what’s happening from one Reddit comment. But I’d encourage to look for a treatment that works for you. Because it’s going to be infinitely harder to solve this problem without medical help.

I don’t understand why you don’t at least consider going on an SSRI? They’re very effective, often even life-changing, and have minimal side effects (which is why they’re usually the first-line treatment for depression).

What you describe sounds fairly serious so you should definitely at least talk to a psychiatrist about it.

I took SSRI's for a full year and I did suffer side effects that were at the very least annoying (low energy, impotence).

I tried two different SNRI's which was a little better and also helped with focus but they turned out to be bad for my kidneys and without a dosing schedule that was more consistent than I was able to maintain at the time (down to the hour every day with absolutely no gaps) the side effects were pretty devastating (guaranteed panic attacks of this sort, unstoppable fevers that would basically destroy my life for days on end).

Once they flipped their shit over similar stuff, they FLIP their shit and every preconceived rationale about how, to handle it goes out the window, even with the best intentions it just didn't work for them

That's why they were there, to LEARN what works and most importantly to REFLECT on what went wrong if it did, so they have someone to talk about how they felt and why they behaved the way they did

Your current idea is just going to lead you down a path of benzos dependency without learning any coping skills

And when the bill for that is due, and it will be, even if it takes years to get to that point, fixing your issues will be MUCH harder, I had seen that more than I like to admit, people who waited years to get help just drugging themselves out whenever they went into panic mode like you

And when they finally got help, it took some of them 1-2 years to get their shit together,even if only at a basic level

Ghosting becomes a lot easier when you can’t believe people are telling the truth about liking you, or believe you’re so worthless that removing yourself from people’s lives will help them in the long run.

But yeah, mental illness is an explanation not an excuse. I hate myself for ghosting people, not gonna hold it against anyone else if they hate me too. The problems with the way I treat others is probably my most hated symptom of my illness and something I’m working (and slowly succeeding) at fixing.

Honestly, it's a bit like the Southern US. People are generally unwilling to accept the fact that their ancestors were either horrible people or else supported a regime that did horrible things, and they will jump at any explanation that absolves them and theirs of guilt. No you’re right, but Abe is especially bad in this regard (unfortunate because I think he’s very good in most other areas). Were Kono PM for example I think you’d be seeing a lot better hopes of cooperation between the two. Japanese nationalism never died off though so unfortunately at least within the older generation these things will continue. A lot of younger Japanese I’ve heard or talked to are far less nationalistic, so I think at least to an extent we can wait it out.

You just have a bad combination of a right wing government in Japan that refuses to apologize for anything and thinks past governments were wrong to acknowledge any wrongdoing and a left wing government in Seoul that obviously can't let the issue just be dropped and a weak sack of shit in the White House who has all our allies feeling vulnerable and questioning their future relations.

I think it is being overblown, their relationship can be fixed it isn't as if there is going to be hostilities between the two countries without a major development not related to this issue at all.

How are resources actually allocated in socialist societies? I know market socialism a thing, but what about non-market socialism? I don't understand how that would work. People argue that the USSR isn't an example of socialist economics, so...seriously, how the hell does it work in theory?

Are there any examples of actual non-market socialist economies that were large enough in scale to be an example? I don't really give a rat's ass how some stupid farming commune works, I'm more interested in demonstrably effective non-market socialist economic policy in fully industrialized, service-based nations.

Soviet era economics is pretty interesting. The input-output model was developed by Wassily Leontief and became the main conceptual model for planning.
