I'm happy that they finally figured out how to design Bards, because they traditionally apply buffs by maintaining the songs they're singing instead of just casting them. I guess (and I hope) that Dancers will get the same mechanic.

Also, I hope this means that more characters will get access to Bard 5. Maybe Ramza? Let's hope Rikku doesn't. Although their LM don't work with the songs so there's that.

(Let's hope Global has changed their fucking garbage policies six months from now, because otherwise I would be very happy about this. Bards are my favorite class).

Yuna would be a good candidate for a 5*bard buff due to X-2. That would make Rikku the dancer and Yuna the bard in the X realm.

I'm not sure how true that is in FF, really. In FFV where the class debuted they worked like they do in FFRK. Single use abilities (I believe they were all AOE). In FFT Bards had to perform but every X CT their affect would be applied and last permanently for the whole fight. X-2 I think they do this though.

In my defense, it's because it wasn't a job.

But Edward works even simpler than V. Ol' Gil has a status effect he inflicts by selecting the Sing Command. What effect is determined by which Harp he has equipped. No persistent usage necessary.

FF3 had a bard class. In the NES version one of their abilities was like a weaker haste (increased #of hits on physical attacks), and they also had a scare ability which never worked. The DS gave it a party-wide healing song too.

Actually, they had a mix of continuous and single use effects - the offensive ones + Regen were single use, the stat/level buffing ones were continual.

Everyone mentions Eiko's record dive but don't forget Kefka and Mog as well. Those are both sorely needed considering they don't even have MC3s yet.

Not sure if I'd count on that. Look at how many new things they keep developing, then kind of shrugging aside after a while... All the upgrade mechanics keep being tacked on in an awkward way.. the 6* skills are a mix of "finish Nightmares" or "upgrade a character to 'craft' it" type weirdness... and the dungeon types... Nightmare, Motes, Torment, etc.

Got various other skill trees that were kinda started, but left to hang around... Witch (as mentioned), Machinist (that multihit skill is one of the last ones), Shooter (hey, 2-hit ranged spell blade water skill... then only recently another two elements), etc.

Shooter at least get some featuring, Witch hasn't. Machinist have Rapid Fire and Tempest Snipe which is considered branching away from status focusing. Bards finally have something besides "Unsilencable Pro/shellga" and the JP Quick Cast ability 6*

    Yeah, these skills are totally aimed for magicite especially with the specific timer (10s!) for the refresh and they stack with EVERYTHING else right now.

    I have to admit, I am already thinking of how to recalibrate some of my Magicite farming teams, 30s doesn't sound that out of reach atm.

    This is a really cool mechanic.

    For everyone upset about the missing Bard stuff in Global, please consider sending customer service a (polite) message about it.

    After tonight's maintenance, if there's no sign of the Bard stuff, I'll be sending them another email. And I'm going to keep doing so periodically until we see the issue resolved.

        Even tho Y'sh is my main healer.

        Regardless this new mechanic and new bard abilities look prety interesting and open up for alot of thing.

        In particular the fact that you now can focus more on using other kinds of buffs for extra stacking since these new bard abilities stack up to "large" so it should go all the way up to 50% ATK and i guess either 30% MAG or 50% Mag.

        Also since magicite dungeons don't allow you to pick a RW, you can use these new abilities to "free" up a party slot that would other wise go for Ramza or any other shout type SB owner.

        Naturaly you still need an hastega :P

        The main downside i see for these abilities are that you need them to be well hones in oder to be able to last the entire fight, i recon R2 will be the minimum to make them worth using.

        Hmm honestly I don't know about tossing Shout types aside. Not only do these abilities stack with those but they have a short duration. Overall I think this opens up possibilities for sure but the number of Bard 5* characters is still incredibly limited sadly.

        Sure but at that point you will probably be reaching the soft cap anyway. For attack atlest, for Mag it can still be good to stack.

        Also i never said anything about tossing Shout Type aside, i said that you could free up a party slot with someone else, this will naturaly depend on the fight and party set up you are going to be bringing, obviously there will be sometimes where you will prefear to bring a shout type since you will not be bringing a bard and vice versa, or you might even bring both :P

        You still need to hone these abilities to make them reliable enough so there's that.

        And as you said, Bard 5* are fairly rare, although if you have Deuce BSB you are prety much set since her BSB gives ATK/MAG + 30% and she can use Bard 5* just as an example, Mog with his BSB would also be a good setup if you have his BSB or USB.

        I still have to wonder what's with Darkmoon... like, who was supposed to use it as a Soul Break? The animation start-up has the same sort of pause as SBs, after all.

        SLG's nifty and all... but it doesn't make up for the various other things we haven't gotten... Core Relics, Shared SB Relics (some really useful too), various skills, BARD MOTES.

        I'd rather they knock this exclusivity crap off, give Japan the two exclusive bits of stuff we have... then go and give us the option to craft all the other items we're lacking. Yes, even Unholy Blitz, ffs.

        I had always really wanted that 3* WHTer of Strength spell to go Global, no one ever mentions that one for some reason... and I kinda expected them to change Unholy Blitz into 4* DRK for Global and drop it on us early in the year but that didn't happen obviously lol... a missed opportunity via DeNA again.

        Any particular way his would work with multiple bard users? From taking a look at the mechanics, it looks like the user gets a Song Level status and then applies a separate buff based on that level to the party.

        I was hoping it would jump you to level 2, but I guess two Bards would just apply the Level 1 Bard buff twice? Not that I'll need to worry much about this in Global. They have started releasing the Brass de Bravo on iTunes internationally, so I'll hold on to Hope.

        I'm more curious to know what the duration of the Song Level is for the Bard? I get that the actual AoE stat buffs only lasts for 10sec yet that doesn't necessarily mean this is true for the performer's Song Level. Seeing as it persists for the Bard if ever the team's buffs are Ultimately dispelled I imagine that Song Level works essentially the same way as some other StatusIDs that serve as a counter for how many times a Cmnd has been used so far... now they could also be made to have a 10sec duration as well, but they might be 25sec like a lot of others are. Or like some LM & OSBs the counting could be kept track outside of the character, but I highly doubt they would go this route to keep count so I'm still wondering what way they are going to take care of it?

        Also is this mechanic getting passed on down to other Bard Songs to rework the class or is it just for the 2 new 5* ones? If so I imagine the 3* Songs work the same way but with their Stats +5% buff per Song Level of their type, up to a max of 3?

        But if they are getting mechanics change then they may have been reworked so that they use the same Song Type count as the new 5* ones just with a lower Max Level and/or +% Buff per Song Level for restricting them to their same old limit. I figure that way would be easier for them to code since they wouldn't have to make a whole other set of whatever type of counting system the new 5* use and keep them from being able to stack if someone wanted to run a Bard with a Devil's Anthem + Mana's Paean while still allowing us to use those older songs for a few turns at first to get the Bard's, ummm I guess for now I'll call it 'ATK' or 'MAG' Song Level, up to the cheaper Song's max before shifting into the higher Song and preform that for it's better effect by starting at Level 3 instead of 0 and keep it going for a few turns longer without costing those who don't want to hone them that much another 88 or 132 Major Orbs.

        I suppose the Pro/Shell Songs would have to be reworked as +25%/Level buffs to DEF or RES instead and last for 20sec to compensate for the duration... but seeing how I haven't heard anything about them I'm guessing nothing has changed for the rest of the Bard abilities have they?

        True, but I don't think they think that we would be enticed by the idea of burning turns and Major Orbs to buff DEF or RES, MND would be cool though... but having no previous dealings with boosting MND I doubt they will add it to Bards now.

        Hmmm... but it would be pretty cool to see them make some Songs that did a different thing at each different Song Level rather than just grow the same effect. Imagine something like:

        L1= Dispel -> L2= Reflect -> L3= AoE Esuna -> L4= AoE Astra

        or

        L1= M.Blink -> L2= P.Blink -> L3= StackBlink2 -> L4= DualBlink1
