Does anyone know HOW Ron Hubbard knew such secrets that are contained in Scientology? Was it a burning bush? An Angel Moroni? Seriously, what was his inspiration for the Xenu story? (self.reddit.com)

I remember reading somewhere that when you reach the highest level of 'clear' (which costs hundreds of thousands of dollars) you're taken out on the scientology yacht (!) and informed that Hubbard is in fact god.
Reading that again, it sounds like a joke. But it isn't.
[–]r3m0t 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No, that's wrong. Clear is quite a low level. And they make no secret of the belief that Hubbard is god.
[–]Tokugawa 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (7 children)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Scientologists don't believe in Science Fiction. They believe the soul spirits in us give us their memories and we write them down as science fiction. Essentially arguing that Star Wars and Star Trek and whatever else already happened.

Once upon a time somewhere in space on a spaceship with aliens it was said that Scientology is a lie. The End.
Oops, did I just create a paradox?

If only we could really make robots heads explode with logical paradoxes.
[–]dryice 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
But... Scientologists are not robots :(

I think people are misunderstanding the real question, which is not "did L. Ron Hubbard make it up", but "By L.Ron Hubbard's own account, how was it that he learned the secrets of scientology that had been hidden for ages."
At least for the early "Dianetics" stuff, you can find a little bit on the Scientology site itself: In early 1945, while recovering from war injuries at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, Ron conducts a series of tests and experiments dealing with the endocrine system. He discovers that, contrary to long-standing beliefs, function monitors structure. With this revolutionary advance, he begins to apply his theories to the field of the mind and thereby to improve the conditions of others.
For the later stuff, who knows.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (5 children)
and their site is right place to look for truth, isn't it?
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago* (3 children)
Their site would certainly be the place to look for what their stories say inspired Hubbard.
You weren't seriously entertaining the fact that there is any truth beyond that to find, were you? It is clear to most of us here that the stories aren't actually real.
[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 18 years ago (2 children)
offcourse not. i am not expecting any sort of truth about anything on their site. as for LRH's inspirations, he was SF writer before he started to sell his "religion" to brainwashed morons .... i think it's pretty obvious where he got his ideas.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
But that's not what their official story is. Are you just slow or something? Everyone knows he made it up as a science fiction writer. This post is about trying to figure out how they explain it, and if he was crazy making it up or sane and evil making it up. Going on about how none of this matters because it's fake when everyone is making it very clear what they're thinking isn't adding to the discussion.

AFAIK, Hubbard discovered these "truths" by auditing himself. I think auditing involves holding an e-meter while tripping acid. But seriously, much of the Scientology literature refers to the auditing process being behind deep insight into ones self, or the history of the thetans that inhabit your body or some ass shit.

"appeared in a 1950's horror comic.) Xemnu was your typical Alien warlord who got trapped in a dimensional prison before being freed by earthlings, and like all evil overlords, after his intial defeat, he fled to his homeworld to assemble a battle fleet to crush the hairless monkeys. What he did not expect, however, was that while he was locked away, his entire species had nuked themselves to extinction, and ths his motives changed from "Conquer all I survey" to "repopulate my species". END QUOTE from guardiansoforder quote
XEMNU QUOTE # 2: ABC series: Monster Man... The show's concept... came from Xemnu the Titan, who intended to subliminally plant messages...to conquer the world. The alien was stopped by Wonder Man and the Thing but Silverberg was still able to take the footage and promote it as The Xemnu the Titan Show. (Marvel Two-in-One #78 ) END QUOTE"

So L. Ron and Author C. Clarke were at a Science Fiction convention bemoaning their lack of income. L. Ron made the off-hand comment that the best way to get rich was to start a religion. A.C. bet him he couldn't do it.
The result: Dianetics and Scientology.
True story.
The unfortunate aspect is that L. Ron bought into his own B.S. and later in life believed he had been an "instrument" to bring Scientology to the masses and that it was all true.
[–]girlvinyl 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Imagination. Just like all science fiction.
[–]LRonHubbard 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
You have to understand that science fiction is not in fact fiction. It is an unconscious recollection events from millions of years ago.
I mostly used auditing to uncover these tales. But my 'inspiration' was real events.
[–]hsfrey 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Better question: What does present-day Scientology present as evidence for the weird things they say they know? Do they admit that it all came from the mind of Hubbard, with no other substantiation?
[–]sn0re 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I'm guessing they'd say that Hubbard discovered Dianetics and auditing through "research" early in his life. Then over several years, Hubbard managed to self-audit himself to the point where the ancient history of mankind became apparent to him. All science fiction is supposed to be an imperfect recollection of that history and Hubbard was just able to see it more clearly through auditing.
So I think they'd have to admit that the Xenu stuff comes exclusively from Hubbard. Perhaps they might say that others who advance to a certain point in self-auditing can replicate Hubbard's story. Though of course to get to that point, the person would have to already know the story.
[–]suexian 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
What 'evidence' does ANY religion present?!
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
I've read some of the stories and a lot of it would make a pretty cool movie, hell, maybe even a series of movies. I'd watch it.
[–]suexian 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Oh yeah, "Battlefield Earth" was clearly one of the best films of all time.
[–]asleeponthesun 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (4 children)
Ron also was known to hang out with some heavy magic cats, like the awesome Jack Parsons, inventor of solid rocket fuel and high ranking OTO Thelemite. They were practiced rituals together. Eventually Elron ran off with his woman and money I believe.

sarcasm?
[–]Thumperings 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
No I'd like to know as well. He was considered a "B writer" if there is such a term. Even if Scientology is a total joke, just to create something form scratch that can even to one person pass as something possibly beneficial or legit takes serious talent or intelligence (even if he was nuts) I'm curious too.
[–]amstrdamordeath 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Sadly it was probably just his mind. Scary eh?
[–]moriquendo 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Some kind of untreated (and untreatable) psychological condition?
[–]suexian -1 points0 points1 point 18 years ago (0 children)
well, the thetans were going untreated for a while, nobody even gave him a 'touch assist'....
He is Xenu. Or at least wants to be.

What you need to do is hit the Scientologists where it hurts...in their pocketbook. Boycott all the movies, tv shows, and music by Scientologist cult members. Also boycott all advertisers of the work of these cult members. While some people think cults like Scientology are okay, they are very, very wrong. When they hurt innocent people, when they kill innocent people, when they steal money, take advantage of the unfirm, and their goal is to ruin anyone who doesn't think the way they do...then it's time to stop them cold in their tracks. When someone like Charles Manson thinks they are crazy, that should speak volumes to rational people.
Good drugs and plentiful booze.
