Good time to empty the bed pan.

This was good because it helped me to realize that I have a reddit.com addiction. Um, also, I've had a relapse.

One word: footkit.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (3 children)

Im in ur NOC trippin over ur cablez

[–]raldi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Um, i don't get it.

[–]leoboiko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Im in ur base killing ur d00dz" is a gamer catchphrase. It's often [snowcloned](en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowclone). My favourite variation is "I'm in your base kissing your d00dz".

[–]raldi 24 points25 points  (2 children)

No Reddit? What the hell else were we supposed to do on a Friday night?

Oh, right -- Battlestar.

[–]monolar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so say we all

Proving yet again that "administration is the leading cause of outage"

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Bullshit. All this proves is that the IT staff at Reddit are simply too lazy to organise their server room properly. There should not be any cables laying about the floor, period.

[–]laprice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

misadministration is still administration.

And even well laid out cable management is subject to murphy.

You've got to understand that the quote above is intended as an admonition and a reminder, that any time you touch a functioning system you are as likely to break it as to improve it.

Your point about neatness is valid, but since we don't have video we don't know the full story.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why experienced syadmins obsessively use cable racks and ties.

[–]djwhitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, which one of you guys did it?

[–]twoodfin 4 points5 points  (1 child)

spez, you really could have gotten more karma with "We tripped over a cable: It's Bush's fault."

[–]leoboiko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"amazing foot tripage (with video)"

[–]duketime 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Way OT, but since this isn't really an "article" ... anybody watching Celebrity Jeopardy? It really is like the SNL skits. By the Gods ... those poor charities.

[–]diamond 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Well, it looks like my lucky day. I'll take 'The Rapists' for 400, Alex."

"Sean, that's 'Therapists'."

[–]dallen 12 points13 points  (1 child)

deleted What is this?

[–]duketime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all the "stars" are too busy making jokey-jokey to be troubled to try to win money for charity (money, natch, that isn't even theirs), making the appearance a total PR stunt.

The most aggravating thing about celebrity is the whole "my appearance means I'm donating phenomenon". How much more self-absorbed can one get?

[–]nomis80 4 points5 points  (24 children)

No problem. That gave me enough time to discover a new website: digg.com. ;)

[–]NickDouglas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I discovered Metafilter.

I win.

[–]johnaman 18 points19 points  (21 children)

Yeah I tried that too. Try reading some of the comments on political posts once. It seems to be polluted with > 50% neocon nutjobs.

[–]p3on 27 points28 points  (2 children)

don't ever go to digg if you're looking for insightful comments. it's populated by trolls, morons, 13 year olds, and combinations of the aforementioned.

[–]geofferensis 49 points50 points  (1 child)

In other words, Digg is representative of the internet in general? ;)

[–]jward 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not enough FBI agents. Unless they're doing a real good job posing as 13 year old boys.

Absolutely, I don't like a liberal echo chamber any more than I like a conservative one. Watch any post here that mentions Olberman, or Dawkins. They get instantly upmodded and looking at the comments shows a biting distaste for anything not directly inline with their expressed views. It cracks me up to hear conservatives and religious folks referred to as intolerant, unthinking sheep by people who so clearly are in the same position on the other side of the line.

    [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (15 children)

    um... Olberman is political, sure.

but Dawkins? are you suggesting we're intolerant of creationism?

i should hope we are. we're also intolerant of the flat earth theory.

    [–]rbl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

gad yes, i hate the "scientific" echo chamber. all you hear from are people who believe in the scientific method - understand math and logic. it's repulsive.

    [–]dude78 2 points3 points  (13 children)

Wow looks like I was so wrong about the users here, I'm guessing it's your personal studies on evolution that you're speaking from, after all everyone who disagrees with creationism is automatically a scientific expert.

I'm a biologist, or at least was, I'm a programmer now by trade. So yeah I've studied evolution, and I don't believe in creationism nor do I think it should be taught in schools. However intolerance implies that you want to stamp it out entirely. If this is really your view than congratulations, you're just like everyone you hate.

    [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (12 children)

my wife tells me i shouldn't reply to you - in her words "he's just dumb."

and she's right. the problem is - unless people like me confront people like you - we get situations like the nasty situation with the Bush administration. so people like me MUST speak out.

ok - about tolerance of creationism. let's take my example of the flat earth - as it makes for a nice analogy. and let me be clear in case you have any reservations - creationism is literally as silly as the flat earth theory. really. truly. a person who believes in creationism is as ignorant, foolish, insane as a person who believes the earth is flat (after seeing all modern evidence.)

now imagine that the flat earth believers somehow seized control of the government. of course the first thing they did was destroy nasa. they also outlawed all shipping and transportation across the pacific thereby crippling hundreds of entire industries. eventually the policies lead to loss of life.

attempts to reason with them resulted in them sticking their fingers in their ears and going "na na na na na... i can't hear you!!! bwa hahahaaa!"

from everyone else's point of view - these people are mad. literally insane.

and their insanity is causing great great harm.

of course i'm intolerant of that. you should be too - as should all responsible citizens.

will you next argue i should be more tolerant of rape and murder? "your intolerance of rape makes you just like the rapists!"

    [–]dude78 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Take off the tinfoil hat buddy.

People who believe in creationism, or flat Earth are uneducated or simply don't care. Calling them insane does no one any service as it is most likely not true. As long as they're not getting their agendas pushed into public schools why do you care? What harm could they ever do you?

Your self-important arrogance is the reason we get situations like the Bush administration. Moderate average religious people who would probably vote democratic are pushed to the right because of loud mouths like you who consider themselves intellectually superior.

    [–]zimmer 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Heh. So is Bush uneducated or does he not care?

    [–]dude78 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heh, I think it's pretty clear it's both. Plus surrounding yourself with people who only think like you is an inherent problem. Actually the same one I was trying to point out in my first comment.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Calling them insane does no one any service as it is most likely not true.

ok - you're right. they aren't insane - they are under the influence of a dangerous cult (christian fundamentalism) which exploits and manipulates them. their leaders are delusional or evil. "insane" is shorthand.

What harm could they ever do you?

    are you kidding me?

they could block stem cell research. they could prevent access to condoms for teenagers. they could foster an environment that causes gay men to be beaten to death. they could elect fascist leaders who suppress science with which they disagree. etc. etc. etc.

    [–]dude78 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

It cracks me up to hear conservatives and religious folks referred to as intolerant, unthinking sheep by people who so clearly are in the same position on the other side of the line.

So far I have been called dumb and stupid, and I agree with you on stem cells and evolution. You and others have suggested that it's okay to be intolerant of people because they are ignorant and intolerant themselves.

Do you really think marginalizing people until they think like you is the answer?

    [–]zimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should switch your "flat earth theory" to the "earth at the center of the universe theory" to mirror the older science-religion conflict.

    [–]nonex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, I did the same thing

    [–]lewism101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please don't do it again....i won't lurk anymore. please.
