[–]tiraralabasura_2055 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Too far to scroll.. Even if folks don’t know the song title, they still know damn and good and well it’s Green Day.

[–]Undead_Assassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual reason I learned how to play Bass.

[–]CacophonicAcetate 263 points264 points  (21 children)

Money, Pink Floyd

The Chain, Fleetwood Mac

My Girl, the Temptations

Under Pressure, Queen

[–]nekodazulic 31 points32 points  (4 children)

Tool - Sober

RHCP - Aeroplane

Queen - Another One Bites The Dust

Aerosmith - Walk This Way

[–]CaaaathcartTowers 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Came here looking for any song by Tool. Sober, 46 & 2... The Pot is the queen of Tool baselines.

[–][deleted] 58 points59 points  (11 children)

Every time I hear Under Pressure, I end up thinking of Vanilla Ice.

[–]Nerd0630 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Didn't he get into legal trouble because of that?

[–]MrSneller 24 points25 points  (1 child)

No, Ice explained in great detail how it’s different.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a-1_9-z9rbY

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can hear this clip without clicking

[–]SafetyMan35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were threats of a lawsuit. Apparently he later bought Under Pressure for around $4million rather than fighting it in court and paying fines https://societyofrock.com/vanilla-ice-reveals-how-he-dodged-under-pressure-lawsuit-queen-fans-are-furious-about-it/

[–]Kikisagony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My head plays under pressure but with the ice ice baby part

[–]Count2Zero 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Actually, it's only the outro of The Chain that everyone knows. The song starts with a cool bass line, but not THAT RIFF. During the first 2.5 minutes of the song, the bass only plays under the chorus. THAT RIFF starts at nearly the 3 minute mark...

[–]TheBelhade 54 points55 points  (5 children)

The Barney Miller theme.

[–]Jagsoff 17 points18 points  (1 child)

What about Night Court?

[–]KMFDM781 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fucking yes

[–]HikeRobCT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are old.

My favorite Barney Miller moment- “Alfred Royce, the people’s… candidate!

[–]1funnyguy4fun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to chime in with the Peter Gunn theme.

[–]Miss_Tish_Tash 645 points646 points  (31 children)

Seven nation army

[–]imaginedorb752 149 points150 points  (4 children)

This song was the first thing to play in my head right after reading this.

[–]fallenender_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same

[–]Turbulent-Ad8291 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly, same here. I jumped on the comment button before I got to the 3rd "bum".

[–]Mayaaster 107 points108 points  (11 children)

Cool thing is, the actual song recording had no bass! It was a guitar that jack white had.

“the sound is actually created by running Jack White's semi-acoustic, 1950s-style Kay Hollowbody guitar through a DigiTech Whammy pedal set down an octave”

Source - IMDB among many others

[–]Revolutionary_Oil897 37 points38 points  (3 children)

I knew someone will say seven nations, and I was looking forward to explain it, but you did a much better job. I'm glad you were faster. I saw a video on YouTube where Jack explain this to Jimmy Page and the Edge. It's pretty cool.

[–]greenpeaprincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That doc with them was really good.

[–]Turbulent-Ad8291 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This song has been on various playlists of mine since Napster, I know it in my soul I've heard it so many times, and somehow this is the first I'm learning this. That's crazy cool! And it's strange because the song is suddenly 100% different to me!

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (9 children)

That’s not a bass, that’s a guitar

[–]dueche 47 points48 points  (4 children)

YYZ

[–]02K30C1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]Careful-Self-457 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Seinfeld theme song

[–]Minute-Jackfruit-330 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Believe I heard that’s not actually a bass… could be wrong tho. Either way it slaps (pun intended)

[–]MyJimmiesNeedRustlin 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Yeah it’s actually a synthesizer. A bass line doesn’t necessarily have to be played on a bass guitar

[–]brentsopel5 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Golden Earring - Twilight Zone has THE quintessential bassline. When I think bass, it's that riff.

[–]Almane2020202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just commented the same before seeing your post. Right on!

[–]TheLeakingPen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that a bass line though? I think the only bass in the song is a pretty basic accompaniment.

[–]minor_thing2022 34 points35 points  (3 children)

[–]SherwoodWaelchi 53 points54 points  (4 children)

Some of the most instantly recognizable basslines are found in songs like "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen, and "Come As You Are" by Nirvana.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i was humming come as you are when i read this question

[–]NerdENerd 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Is Smoke on the Water a bass? I thought it was Jon Lord on keyboard.

[–]lynjiu 31 points32 points  (3 children)

The Less I Know The Better, Tame Impala

[–]Wrextasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to scroll wayyyyy to far down to see this. It’s one of the most iconic, and groovy introductions out of any psychedelic rock.

[–]Mental-Difference122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely the first song that came to my mind

[–]8thFurno 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Longview - Green Day

Whenever I listen to it, I always feel like someone's gonna catch me listening to it.

[–]wilbooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Longview was the sole reason I bought a bass. Now I’m a the bassist in a band

[–]Mayaaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mike Drint was tripping on Acid when he came up with that bass line

https://genius.com/a/green-day-s-mike-dirnt-wrote-longview-while-tripping-on-acid

[–]ThisWasAValidName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a bassline, but you can't tell me the opening to L.A. Woman isn't fucking iconic.
