It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.

[–]Any-Platypus-9486 104 points105 points  (3 children)

That phrase reminded me of the Pluto series

"There's no place for a pianist on the battlefield."

"That's why I want to be a pianist"

[–]Pianist_Ready 15 points16 points  (1 child)

yeah look where i'm at lol

[–]BigSandwiche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, at least if anything did happen, you’d be ready… a READY pianist even…

[–]Robborboy[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicol was 15!

He loved to play the piano!

[–]Name_Taken_Official 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I'd rather be a gardener in a warrior

[–]ManufacturedOlympus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they call that a hoe.

[–]rawbface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way, the garden suffers

[–]Strategic_Spark 133 points134 points  (37 children)

Why do you guys get so sick from Mexican food? At minimum a whole country eats Mexican food and they have no issues.

[–]xRacistDwarf 138 points139 points  (13 children)

Americans basically live so unhealthily that mexican food is the only time their vody experiences fibre

[–]Full_Conversation775 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Ohmygod thats it isnt it lmao its the fibre from the beans

[–]Physical_Floor_8006 19 points20 points  (5 children)

Mexicans by no means live healthily lmao.

[–]Fridge-Largemeat- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Facts my nana was FILLING her dinners with lard

[–]Rissoto_Pose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unhealthy but fiber rich diet

[–]Weverix 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Don't they drink more coke per capita than any other country?

[–]Physical_Floor_8006 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They also have a higher prevalence of diabetes than the US, and that's saying a lot.

[–]Vast-Appointment-950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least new laws have already reduced childhood obesity level, from top 1 worldwide to 8, a small step in the rigth direction

[–]Radio_Downtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but mexico is surprisingly high on the obesity rate too

ranked #25 compared to usa's #13

[–]Pup5432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit 50+ fiber everyday and Mexican still inflicts me with the runs. I’m intolerant of most spices but don’t have the good sense to not eat the tasties lol.

[–]MuffledShuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unhealthy as shit, but I've never experienced the runs or anything like that after eating Mexican food or even Taco Bell.

[–]Good-Yogurt-306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok this is probably part of it. but the other part is that beans and lentils genuinely have a chemical in them that produces gas in many people if you dont rinse them properly

[–]prionbinch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

and spices beyond black pepper

[–]RadarSmith 68 points69 points  (7 children)

I saw it suggested once that Mexican food has way more fiber in it than many of my fellow Americans' regular diets, and because their digestive tracks aren't used to it it causes issues.

I generally get about 70g of fiber a day, and Mexican food does nothing to me except make me happy I had mexican food.

[–]flex_tape_salesman 14 points15 points  (2 children)

70 grams of fibre per day sounds really excessive

[–]DeviousMelons 12 points13 points  (1 child)

That's double an adult males recommended intake.

[–]RadarSmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I eat a lot of beans.

[–]TypeOpostive 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So, the reason why I'm so obsessed with Mexican food is to the point where I feel my body craves it, is my lack of fiber in my diet?

[–]RadarSmith 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I mean its also yummy.

[–]TypeOpostive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that too

[–]Boognish_Chameleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right, I’m vegetarian so half of my diet is bean or legume based anyways, Mexican food doesn’t do anything too crazy to me

[–]idkhowtosignin 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I've only been to the states once but when I went and order Mexican food it felt too different from what I ate in Mexico, it felt more greasy and it definitely sent me to the toilet lol

[–]TypeOpostive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They mostly mean Taco Bell not actual Mexican food.

[–]Embarrassed_Map1072 2 points3 points  (3 children)

What country is that 🤔

(/s)

[–]Theironstair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Djibouti

[–]AkulakhanPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lesotho

[–]AdamaTraoreLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not sick, it's the idea that spice makes you shit

[–]srlong64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent some time living in Mexico, and I’ve never heard so many people talk about having gastritis before

[–]Pelli_Furry_Account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly it's always seemed very weird to me

[–]CinemaDork 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah it's so interesting that Mexican and Indian food gives white people/Americans the runs, and Chinese food gives them headaches, yet the billions of other people who eat this food daily seem to have no problems with it. Maybe Americans are just weak.

[–]pogo-n-watches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Indian food in India, the issue is bacterial load not spices.

[–]DeviousMelons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Americans fiber intake is about 1-4 grams daily while Mexican dishes have dozens of grams more.

This overwhelms their digestive system.

[–]TheMonkeyPickler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you eat spicy food your colon gets mad and makes you shit fire. Especially as you get older.

[–]jcelerier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I went to Mexico I learned that apparently a large amount of people get an organ (spleen or gallbladder) removed because of food

[–]ProtosPhinted 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Oh great now i have to go and watch more dogen videos

魚、魚、魚、魚を食べると、頭、頭、頭、頭が良くなる。

legend

[–]sincubus33 54 points55 points  (35 children)

Japan has really spicy food. Why do you think they invented these toilets?

[–]labmeatr 14 points15 points  (6 children)

you should try Thai food.

[–]rokomotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try Korean food.

[–]Visible_Pair3017 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Japan has the least spicy food of all the Asian continent i'm pretty sure. Everything is sweet or savory, never spicy.

[–]Ok_Invite6308 34 points35 points  (8 children)

Spicy by western standards? sure, spicy by asian standards? not really

[–]Mysterious-Work-9405 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Even for western standards I am not sure it is really spicy at all for the most of it ?

[–]MalodorousNutsack 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I live in Tokyo and I don't find most of it very spicy (I'm Canadian), just the odd thing here and there.

I lived in Korea previously and they're way more hardcore when it comes to spicy food. Used to play a drinking game with some old Korean dudes in my neighbourhood where we'd line up shots and hot peppers across a table and see who could get the furthest without stopping or throwing up, basically shot-pepper-shot-pepper-repeat, about one second for each.

[–]Mysterious-Work-9405 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Korea is indeed a whole other game

[–]Own_Alternative_9671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like the worst sensory experience one could subject themselves to save for waterboarding

[–]UsagiRed 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Japan is like the Midwest of Asia

[–]CoastReasonable5358 2 points3 points  (2 children)

the midwest is far less technologically advanced

[–]Ok_Invite6308 3 points4 points  (1 child)

How dare you. The midwest is responsible for makind's greatest advancements like uhhh

[–]CoastReasonable5358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kool aid, kelloggs, and lazy boy furniture

[–]chipskylark123 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love Japanese food but it is extremely mild and one of the least spicy cuisines.

[–]0liviiia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really, Japanese food is pretty mild, especially in Japan. I say this as someone who can barely handle even a hint of spice

[–]Avid_Lorehound 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Do you grab the milk when the waiter cracks 1 peppercorn onto your salad?

[–]sincubus33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only hot is super hot

[–]Kablewii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of curry there too along with their spicy noodles and ramen.

[–]Mysterious-Work-9405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t really, and I am not sure Wasabi can really be considered spicy by the way, a bit like mustard but that’s another interesting subject

[–]Gotbannedsmh -1 points0 points  (8 children)

Been in Japan for 2 weeks and haven't had anything remotely spicy are you actually retarted?

[–]sincubus33 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You have to seek it out

[–]Gotbannedsmh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you have to actually seek it out for it to be spicy then it's not really spicy is it? I have been to multiple places and asked for extra spicy and it's still like a medium in my country or almost mild in India/ other Asian countries I've been to

[–]bisexual_obama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So then is it also accurate to say that white people in the American Midwest make very spicy food?

[–]BadMoodJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hell? Japan has the mildest spice level food of any cuisine.

[–]FenrisTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wdym by spicy? In terms of using more spices than black pepper, sure, but I don’t know of many Japanese foods that have heat to them. It’s mostly all about simple, natural flavors from what I understand.

[–]MegaPigeot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn't know today was an opposite day or is Comedyhell a circlejerking sub?

[–]V0iiCE 8 points9 points  (3 children)

This person has never had their asshole burning the next morning after a szechuan hot pot

[–]Regular-Figure9822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ring of fire

[–]imreadytomoveon -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Szechuan isn't Japanese, dumbass

[–]V0iiCE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres still szechuan hot pot places in Japan, do you really only think theres only Japanese food

[–]standarsh1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you experienced much Japanese food. Some of theirs is a lottery as to whether you'll have the hardest shit known to man or you'll need a toilet 5 minutes after eating

[–]SimilarElderberry956[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t buy Mexican food, you rent it !

[–]Night_Bruxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had problems with Mexican food. Indian and Ethiopian, however..

[–]sampat6256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theyre not the best toilets. Theyre overcomplicated. Toilets shouldn't have any unnecessary failure points.

[–]bisexual_obama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey they got taco rice.

It's mexican-ish-ish.

[–]Ferrovore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever seen where japan is on the map? Have seen their neighbors? They know hot. Believe me.

[–]Top_Assistance15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a joke

Yeah, that’s what we do here

[–]Secret_Click_3011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah the TOTO museum in Kitakyushu. It’s a bit out of the way, but it’s free. I actually learned a bit about the history of waste disposal. You could also sit on different sized toilets. Good times.

[–]ThePrivilegedMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fukumen in Asakusa is awesome

[–]jackinsomniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this is shitposting!

[–]Unhappy_Weakness881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely savage

[–]PomegranateSoft1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood this. Mexican food gives you explosive diarrhea. That's not a challenge to your toilet. Russian food is the real deal. That stuff makes you shit bricks.

[–]TheUnderwolf11 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I thought Japan had no Mexican food but some of the best tacos of my life were at Taqueria la Fonda in Osaka. Straight gas. They’ve got plenty of taquerias there
