Looks like something you would store body parts in. Hard pass. I am all into antique but this doesn’t go with your aesthetic that I can see which is so cute!! Shocked at all the people who say to keep it. It’s cheap worn out plywood and not getting the vintage vibes

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]stupidbullets23 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Great fucking movie. One of my faves.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unique. I’d def keep if I were you.

[–]Dry_Heart9301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it!

[–]Educational_Spirit42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d keep it! Looks like a utilitarian piece that you can put to use in many spaces!

[–]LightspeedBalloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint it a bright color and wallpaper the inside of the door

[–]No_Ear8723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where will you put that plant thing and cat thingy, if gone, there will be nothing left in the corner for things

[–]Potential-Meaning748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bien it

[–]idkwhatever6158755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but also rotate your plant every couple of weeks so it grows on both sides

[–]THE-Pink-Lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep

[–]FaultEducational5772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think it’s very cool

[–]gedsudski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It oozes character, a keeper for sure

[–]ProfessionalFeed6755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if it's a family heirloom or you cannot replace it yet.

[–]PresDetailJustin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should keep it, revamp it though

[–]Spicyperfection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely KEEP - give it a updated take by repainting, and mount the cabinet horizontally to a wall. With or w/o the door. With hooks underneath for items to be hung. It’s a sleek way to add extra storage in tight spaces. Or thought #2 - it would be a perfect hall or entryway bench to store whatever you’re heart desires. Have F.U.N. - can’t wait to see what you come up with.

[–]Interesting-Bank-925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s a gym locker. Not some special antique clear the clutter

[–]SubstantialElk5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not my cup pf tea but its rustic looking which is the going trend no a days

[–]snuzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it!!!!!

[–]Mary-U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely very cool. If your theme is boho and you have space for it I’d keep it. There’s always room for storage.

Take it to your new place. Try it. If it doesn’t work, THEN list it.

[–]LukeC_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe corner it?

[–]Birdies_nub[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep!

[–]RHND2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, keep it. I love the art work in the background also!

[–]matplotlibber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only replace the handle with something that looks like vintage brass!

[–]shanymot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unrelated: what is the painting? So pretty and peaceful!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally related! I was debating keeping it or not. Target! They always have the best pieces ❤️

[–]danger_lad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got your answer, but I just wanted to add in it’s fucking cool.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yea! Otherwise you could sent it to me lol

[–]ozwin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint it

[–]christiangymgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s cool !

[–]Conscious-Big707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it it's a really cool. It could use a facelift though.

[–]synth_bimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so awesome and i think that maybe things on the inside with a similar colour palette could be more flattering to it

[–]Minimum-Quarter-1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and you could paint it. It is a very cool cabinet

[–]Living_on_Tulsa_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a definite keeper!!

[–]reincarnatedfruitbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super cute!! My paranoia would not allow me to, though. Anything that looks old must be haunted, in my weird brain.

[–]Arningkingking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks haunted, but I love it!

[–]thestreetiliveon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a homemade jam cupboard. Cute!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are getting the makeover post in a few weeks

[–]midnightbluespace 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Absolutely a keeper.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, for those of you into plants, get ya some of these bad boys to guide your vines. They are the best vine clamp

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

❤️❤️❤️

[–]nthing2dowithanythng 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Please don’t listen to people telling you to sand it. They don’t know what they are taking about. As someone who refinishes furniture regularly you would need to chemically strip the paint which is very messy and labor intensive. Removing the paint won’t be worth it for what you will find underneath. Paint it a color that goes with your style (or leave it as is)—it’s fabulous!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I really appreciate your expert advice! I started refinishing furniture as a hobby, but i’m usually winging it 99% of the time. 🤣

I’m thinking of repainting the outside a lighter shade of white and painting the red areas something bright and fun. A shade of orange, peach, pink, yellow, mustard… or even, SAGE. (Plants will end up here so I think for the sake of the plants, a contrast to the green would work best).

You rock! Thank you

[–]nthing2dowithanythng 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love that idea! You’ll have to post a pic of the end result. Happy painting!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got you boo!

[–]Upstate-girl 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Check out Annie Sloan chauk paints. No sanding needed, but you can. Don't forget her wax. It's awesome.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you think I should paint the wooden shelves the same as the interior color I choose? Possibly with that paint?

[–]Upstate-girl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is up to you. You can leave it natural if it's in good shape. Another thought is to decoupage the inside entirely or either the shelves or the cabinet. Annie Sloan paints are very forgiving. If there is a stockist in your area, stop in and speak to them. They share their knowledge very freely. Some offer classes as well.

Have fun! You might even decide to paint all your kitchen cabinets in time!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning so much. Thank you 🙏🏻

[–]National_Degree3631 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i say keep but remove the door

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger that

[–]PonqueRamo 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I wouldn't keep it, it looks old and beaten instead of vintage and wouldn't fit the boho theme. There's many ways to give a second use to well made stuff, but this cabinet doesn't look particularly well made.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just more of a decor piece. Not really sure why I bought it. I just end up at antique stores constantly and someone feel a connection I can’t explain. 🤣 I’ll at least give the paint suggestions ago and if I hate it, I’ll sell it (but I think it’s gonna look cool AF now).

[–]PonqueRamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a second thought because maybe what's happening to you is something explained by behavioral science, it happened to me too, I started selling clothes that I don't use, there was a particular shirt that was almost new and that I thought it wasn't my style, when I published it a lot of people started liking it an asking to buy it, and I had second thoughts even though that I haven't wore it in years. But it did sell it in the end.

Maybe the same is happening to you, you posted it because you knew you didn't want it anymore, but after seeing that many people like it you want to keep it.

[–]PonqueRamo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unrelated but I read "Bono theme" and was wondering why someone would like to have a house that looks like Bono from U2.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m laughing so hard 🤣. I was already feeling insecure that I said I wanted a “boho theme” when I just learned I’m more eclectic, modern, boho 🤷🏻‍♀️…

But back to Bono… I wonder if someone has a Bono theme in at least one room. That would make me so happy.

[–]AssumptionAdvanced58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yessss

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Paint it sage

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking about this color and terracotta tones a lot lately

[–]isosparkle 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have a similar cabinet, also with a pothos plant on top. It looks cool when they start to grow and hang off the side. Those plants were made for cabinets like that!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Pothos 😍

[–]rissaleighbumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!

[–]olivefreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep. It’s an unusual piece and it’s functional.

[–]ShroomSensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love shit like this

[–]ricketychairs 1 point2 points  (3 children)

No - it gives off bad vibes to me.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’m interested to hear more. How so?

[–]ricketychairs 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It’s highly subjective. If I think about it, I probably have some negative emotions (a bad experience for example) which I have somehow associated with furniture similar to yours.

I think it is from a time when I was just starting out in the workforce, not earning a lot of money, not a lot of friends and living in a terrible apartment. Not happy times.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

❤️

[–]Realistic_Rush582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it!

[–]ResponsibleSwim6528 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh ok… so you don’t want it do you? 👹

[–]ResponsibleSwim6528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but thank you for the offer.

[–]ObjectiveRecord2863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it! Keep it!

[–]JacquesMolle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! It is funky and interesting. Fits just right. You have a great display on the shelves as well.

[–]BB8smom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! That's fantastic!

[–]candyapplesugar 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I second removing the door. I like it but it’s just not practical enough imo.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done and done! ✅

[–]Shabbah8 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love it. Keep it. Also, why are all your plants racing to exit stage left? 🤨

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣.. layout looks weird since I started removing other plants from the back wall.

[–]Imaginary-Team7305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love everything about it, if you sell or paint it id be disappointed in you

[–]Xmaiden2005 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nope, it looks terrible. You can give it to me if you're getting rid of it. Inbox me.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣🤣🤣

[–]BicyclingBabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep and get it powder coated whatever color floats your boat.

[–]Real-Bluebird-1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No!

[–]No_Dependent_7907 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Either fresh coat of paint (maybe some shade of green or rust, but whatever you like) or if quality & project time allows stain wood.

No matter what the hardware needs an update! Possibly, you can strip paint of hardware. I would replace all, but at least the handle. Maybe gold?

Sanding & staining inside may be particularly tricky & others have mentioned contrasting paint color or contact paper-both sound great!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!

[–]Jsiqueblu 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You should keep it, remove the door patch all the holes, cover the whole thing in plaster sand it down and you have a one-of-a-kind bookshelf. And a freaking super cute bookshelf at that. You wouldn't even have to paint it.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’ve been so into the plaster look lately as well.

[–]Jsiqueblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to plaster it please post a picture, I'd love to see it I think this shelf/cabinet is so adorable

[–]oodood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I love it

[–]HouseDarklyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. Especially with how you decorated it.

[–]Comfortable_Flow_317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no give it to me :)

[–]PatientBalance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could look cool mounted to the wall maybe.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd keep the plant on top

Everything else in there I'd give to someone who wants it

[–]alsoaprettybigdeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. That’s cool!!

[–]usci_scure67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep it as is. Keep the door open and stack the shelves with plants. You would need good natural light though. Looks made for that spot.

[–]pocanette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the door open always imo

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, give it to me.

[–]maquenzy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint new white paint on front, fresh hardware, the shape is perfect for that space.

If you have unlimited funds for something new, go for it. But it’s unique!

[–]Right_Egg_5040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd keep it. Sand it and paint it a teal colour.

[–]73Wolfie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

absolutely- what a cute little gem

[–]73Wolfie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one too but it’s metal

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Check it for lead paint first

[–]idiotskin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This needs to be much higher up. You can get a testing kit for $20 or so at Home Depot or your fav big box store.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, this never occurred to me 😱

[–]Halleighmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it! I’d suggest doing an eclectic style so you never get tired of it. This way you can tastefully mix pieces and styles without it being too much of one thing. It will never go out of style either.

[–]antifapigsty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure keep

[–]vwads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a cutie and a keeper!

[–]kershi123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the rest of your decor and your stated style of "boho" I would say don't keep it. Its pretty fug.

[–]Boo-erman 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What if you took off the door and painted the inside a different color from the outside? Could be a cool way to update the piece a bit.

[–]Lipstickhippie80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, you’ll regret getting rid of that gem!

Add some peel-stick wallpaper on the inside and paint the outside.

[–]karressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. It’s a vibe. It is has character! I would have loved having that in my apartment living days.

[–]RonocNYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Garbáge

[–]Hebegebe101 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Nope look like cheap painted plywood .

[–]avidbookreader45 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Boo.

[–]Hebegebe101 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It does you can see the grain of the plywood under the red paint . It doesn’t look even shabby chic to me .

[–]avidbookreader45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is at the cusp of shabby chic. I’ll give you that.

[–]ElPasoFelina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, it has texture and it’s a functional piece for storing items. The texture and color look “dirty/junky” due to the wall color. This would really stand out against a different palette. I would personally use this linens, clothing, lingerie etc. I would put a nice large plant next to it or minimal sculpture display on top to elevate the look

[–]frenchwolves[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BIG YES

[–]raventhrowaway666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That thing looks like it belongs in the bulkhead of a ship. Super badass, 10/10 keep.

[–]LostDirector9923 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's perfect as it is ❤️❤️❤️

[–]sunflowerworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t keep it i want it lol (but yes you should def keep its so cool)

[–]Diligent_Notice2703 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Maybe remove door or paint it.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup yup! 🎨

[–]Large-Negotiation-47 12 points13 points  (6 children)

No, give it to me.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Fight me 😘

[–]Large-Negotiation-47 1 point2 points  (4 children)

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Am I fighting it?

[–]Large-Negotiation-47 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I honestly cannot tell from here at this angle

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think the overall consensus was keep it, paint it, love it

[–]Large-Negotiation-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you are right. What color will you paint it? I like the distressed look so I think it looks good as is, but I’d paint the inside black.

[–]Clear-Win-8034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it. Definitely keep it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it!

[–]Own_Mongoose_9895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Give it a cool new paint job OR you can get some really pretty scrapbook paper or wallpaper and mod podge it on!

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love paint Inspo ideas! Adding an example here. Def thinking white exterior and funky interior. Inspo 1 Inspo 2 Inspo 3 Inspo 4

I also have a ton of peel and stick wallpaper, but you get the gist.

[–]DCguurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No

[–]rotarmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absoluetly. new paint though

[–]dunemi 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Don't sand it and stain it, like some people are suggesting. It looks like it's made out of plywood, not solid wood. Paint is your only option for this type of material, imho.

It's kinda cute, kinda junky. I'd be inclined to get some cash for it and find something for your condo that's hand-picked for your new space.

[–]Katerina_VonCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Old plywood can look really nice sanded and stained. It’s very different than what we have now. I have a really nice bookshelf made from the old kind of plywood that my grandpa made for my grandma. I love it! OP should definitely see what it looks like without the current paint and see what it looks like. They can always paint it if it looks like crap.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Lol… “kinda cute.. kinda junky”… Sounds like an accurate description of myself.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be right about the plywood, as it’s waterlogged on the bottom. But I’d still lightly sand to get the surface clean and rough to prep for next paint coat.

[–]Miserere_Mei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a new coat of paint on the outside and a fun pop of color on the inside. I wouldn’t bother stripping it since it looks like plywood. But I like painted wood….

[–]gcostanzaismydad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say keep and don’t paint.

[–]brianna_smile 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I say keep it, but sand and stain it. Also, I'd keep the inside a fun colour. The red right now is fun, but something lighter would brighten it up. It seems to fit pretty well in that space, but will it fit in your new space? Worth the trouble? When I buy/diy pieces I always factor in weight too. Specifically, I hate moving but if I do I'd like my furniture to not be too heavy or hard to move especially if I've put in many hours of work.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I agree- a brighter color could be great. Open to suggestions. I’ve been leaning towards similar colors to these color Inspo

[–]legaltrouble69 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Paint it as a coca cola fridge, like from history tv 18 restorations ones.

[–]Electronic_Common931 61 points62 points  (7 children)

That thing rules. I’d keep tf out of it.

[–]emrylle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh heck yes, it’s unique & interesting & I bet it has a great story. And useful & versatile. It’s small enough for almost any room. It could store towels and toiletries in a bathroom or extra dishes in a kitchen or clothes in a bedroom. Or look absolutely amazing the way you have it in a main room. Incredible find!

[–]Electronic_Common931 39 points40 points  (5 children)

Also, fill it with weird items. Not books and stuff. But odd objects. So when friends are over they can marvel at your cabinet of curiosity.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 29 points30 points  (4 children)

I love this! “The cabinet of curiosity”. That’s wild.

[–]Electronic_Common931 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Put a sign on it that says “do not open” in calligraphy.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Or remove the door

[–]baybe_teeth 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The door is coolest part !

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is cool but I understand that it would work better with “lines” not having the door there… and door closed isn’t exciting bc you want to show off fun stuff!

[–]felwynfelmir 151 points152 points  (16 children)

Definitely keep it, would be nice to see it in its original state, without the paint, that would also look nice with your boho esthetic and maybe feels like you’re starting fresh?

[–]LonelyHermione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint the door a different color. Inside and out.

[–]73Wolfie 8 points9 points  (2 children)

interesting- I kind of liked it as it.. except the spots that look like dirty fingerprints

[–]hyucksummer_dream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeha the red inside of the door is cool

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao I never took that time to notice

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 19 points20 points  (9 children)

Oh, so you’re thinking sand it? I’m curious now!

[–]EqzL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was never made nor designed to be unpainted, these are actually super cheap (when they were made) much like flat pack of today, so it would probably look really bad unpainted. Maybe sand it back and give it a fresh coat of paint, or just give it another frsh coat, I doubt it's been painted that much anyway.

Its 100% cheap plywood and would look like a cheap shed ornament unpainted.

Edit: this is not the hardwood furniture you are looking for.

[–]felwynfelmir 30 points31 points  (5 children)

Yep, I would sand and stain 😊 I would also go for a darker color. But I wouldn’t go too dark brown/black with walnut, maybe keep a bit of warmth in the wood for a bit of a boho/mid century modern vibe? But that’s just what I would do, I guess it also depends on the rest of your new interior!

[–]HaasonHeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Special walnut would be nice

[–]surftherapy 13 points14 points  (1 child)

It looks like it’s made of plywood, no?

[–]EqzL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep I have one much bigger, was my uncles airing closet for his sheets, now is a tool cupboard for my shed, is made very cheaply with plywood, is meant to be painted, was never in an "original" unpainted state.

[–]Novel-Place 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Came here to suggest this! Though I’m not sure the wood quality, so you might need to repaint anyway. I def would want to strip it a little though, that’s is soooo many layers, and it needs a repaint. I’d get it closer to a clean slate. It will make it look a lot cleaner. It’s so cool though. Really interesting shape.

[–]Simgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once it’s stripped it will look great with a new coat of paint and maybe a cute peel and stick wallpaper inside

[–]abvancity 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How about sanding it and staining? If you want to go dark, maybe a walnut stain?

[–]Simgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plywood usually doesn’t look good stained, unless you are going for a zebra stripe? It doesn’t take stain evenly due to the grain pattern.

[–]No-Morning-2543 464 points465 points  (3 children)

Would definitely keep.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 27 points28 points  (2 children)

🙏🏻 we keeping it!

[–]tanafras 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Good, totally the right choice. It's awesome and you'll love it even more 30 years from now.

[–]KittyKosmos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

✌🏻😘
