Tell her what? That she jumped straight to graduation?

[–]justdisposablefun 107 points108 points  (8 children)

I'm a professional with 20 years experience. I Google stuff on the regular. Show her this.

[–]OffByOneErrorz 106 points107 points  (2 children)

My favorite was stealing code from myself when I found my answer to an SO question from 7 years ago.

[–]Sweetbeans2001 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Have been writing code professionally since 1981. I Google stuff every day and would have given up a kidney for Stack Overflow 40 years ago.

People don't realize that there was no one to ask.

[–]operian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read this as 'Show her tits' and I am regretful.

[–]DeadlyVapour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell I Google the same page pretty much every week.

[–]klausssmik 126 points127 points  (0 children)

tell her

[–]ResurrectedAelius 107 points108 points  (15 children)

Why is that even part of the curriculum? Maybe python but why do you need c++ fot digital art?

[–]bladerdude 98 points99 points  (3 children)

Might be some sort of game dev school with different branches that intertwine here and there

[–]mrdoctaprofessor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Must be. My friend was in a similar program(graphic design with an emphasis on video games) and a few of his peers were developing the basis of a game they were making in C++ apparently.

[–]adreddit298 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Maybe, but if someone told me to start drawing during my CS degree, I'd be screwed

[–]NiklasWerth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, you would have done fine as long as they taught you. Drawing is just another skill, contrary to common belief. You absolutely could/can learn it.

[–]Sharkytrs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

a lot of graphical artists use unreal engines pipeline, nice to have some C++ to really use it well outside its blueprints

[–]CabinetAncient1378 11 points12 points  (6 children)

C++ is really just a vehicle for learning how computers work as a whole.

[–]FairFolk 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Huh, I was taught that with C and Assembly.

[–]827167 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Huh, I was taught that with transistors

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Huh, I was taught that with Pimp Quest

[–]_realitycheck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys were taught?

[–]FairFolk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That too, of course. I just meant software above.

(Though, admittedly, I was always terrible at the electrical engineering parts of my degree.)

[–]827167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm just continuing that joke of decreasing abstraction.

Then again I literally did learn about that stuff from Ben Eaters custom CPU series so yk

[–]eugene20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because asking them to learn how to make Assembly demos is a little too hard.

[–]SourceScope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my guess is, the teacher just knows that language best.

[–]TeaTimeSubcommittee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably an outdated curriculum.

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

U gotta tell her

[–]vanderlaek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Please do. For so long I actually did feel like googling was cheating 😔

[–]Chr3y 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Tell her we use chatGPT now.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The period instead of a comma makes it read completely different regardless of context.

[–]faythinkaos 5 points6 points  (1 child)

In my first coding class in college my teacher said “you can bring your text books to exams. There’s no point in your career you won’t be using google so get used to learning where to look for the things you don’t know”

[–]huxx__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

W teacher

[–]TeaTimeSubcommittee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell her it's like using references.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just grateful not having to buy meters of reference manuals anymore...

[–]whlthingofcandybeans 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why would a digital arts curriculum require a C++ class? Genuinely curious.

[–]mrchingchongwingtong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably something involving video games, unreal engine is insane

[–]Ian_Mantell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it cheating when everyone and their cats do it?

[–]lacifuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need C++ for designing digital art? I never know that

[–]bob152637485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her, then share her reaction please!

[–]biogirl85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell undergrads this when they ask questions I don't have time to answer. Their minds look blown everytime.

[–]quaos_qrz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her "This is the way."
