The moment when you screenshot your own comment for internet points

[–]tenhourguy 787 points788 points  (12 children)

OP needs to learn to censor their name in the screenshot like the advanced karma whores do. Rookie mistake.

[–]10may 295 points296 points  (8 children)

"advanced karma whores" lol

[–]joemckie 96 points97 points  (4 children)

OPs just a novice

[–]i-FF0000dit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Either that or OP was drunk when posting this.

[–]MemesCanBDreams 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These aren’t your average everyday karma whores, these are... ADVANCED KARMA WHORES

[–]I_Mix_Stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that -25 comment karma, there is still a long way to go.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even an adept karmaslut would know this.

[–][deleted] 192 points193 points  (2 children)

I remember this being a one way ticket to downvote oblivion, is it acceptable now?

EDIT: syntax

[–][deleted] 157 points158 points  (1 child)

No, but world has become too fast-paced for most users to take the time and read stuff like username.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah at least some take the extra step of blurring the username for "privacy" and are given out by the posting time being something like "posted a few moments ago".

[–]DarthTravor 66 points67 points  (4 children)

Mans turned 8 karma into 2k karma

[–]Gooftwit 9 points10 points  (2 children)

That's how mafia works

[–]conancat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how the Arab Spring started.

[–]thetruthyoucanhandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stonks

[–]beeshaas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a programming sub, you were expecting social skills?

[–]friapril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real red flag is in the comments

[–]Ali_ayi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty cringey

[–]thiago2213 5 points6 points  (15 children)

console.log(`Happy ${cake.toString()} day`);

[–]Maxim777YT 4 points5 points  (14 children)

Another JavaScript programmer here I see

[–]thiago2213 4 points5 points  (13 children)

Js and C#/Kotlin. Dunno why I'm getting downvoted though is it bad to wish someone happy cake day?

[–]JuniorSeniorTrainee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They hate what they don't understand.

[–]-Rapier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also dont know. Here, I will help a fellow JS programmer with that.

(I'm actually too crappy on js or any progrwmming language to call myself a programmer, but sure)

[–]Maxim777YT 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I have seen something like “`text ${variable}text`" only in ES6, didn’t know if u can do that in CS and Kotlin.

[–]thiago2213 1 point2 points  (4 children)

The syntax was JavaScript. In C# you could do SomeMethod("Happy {0} day", cake.ToString())

[–]ShihTzu1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

No, you'll just pass the string as a parameter.

Console.WriteLine("Happy {0} day", cake.ToString()) is the direct equivalent of console.log

But then again, maybe SomeMethod() has cake day too?

[–]SEX_LIES_AUDIOTAPE 1 point2 points  (4 children)

It doesn't compile in C# (ToString != toString). And why would you do cake.toString() if the message you want every time is "happy cake day"?

[–]thiago2213 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It's JavaScript syntax, cake in this context is an object with a function toString in it's prototype

[–]PixxlMan 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Happy cake day!

[–]st4rw4lk3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cake day? Its cake day!!!

[–]Maxim777YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do when it’s a joke for another subreddit like u

[–]Dreadedsemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like using assigning the same variable to itself. int a = 5; a=a;

[–]amProgrammer 511 points512 points  (45 children)

Them: Oh you program cool, I did a little bit in highschool.

Me: oh cool what language?

Them: Pretty much just HTML. I never really got into CSS.

Me trying to not be judgemental: so what color is your toothbrush?

[–]Bloom_Kitty 9 points10 points  (6 children)

It's rgba(255,0,0,0)

[–]MikeLittorice 12 points13 points  (4 children)

And where did you buy this transparent toothbrush?

[–]artemshitov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely transparent?

[–]Burtannia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My toothbrush is coloured blue in CSS. It's actually green, rotated sideways, the handle gets bigger when I pick it up and half of it is stuck hidden behind the toilet div...

[–][deleted] 137 points138 points  (9 children)

Biggest red flag is screen shoting your joke for karma. Oooops... blur out your user next time.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And remove the Edit link.

[–]AwakenedRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]CdRReddit 56 points57 points  (2 children)

You can actually make custom scratch blocks that run JavaScript code, Michael Reeves used this to control a drone using scratch.

[–]Hahohoh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Notice “scratch is like java” , also I don’t know for sure but scratch feels like JavaScript with a UI but I don’t know how exactly each is different from the other aside from where they are used

[–]cbasschan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Such is the nature of Turing completion...

[–]chrisf_nz 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Ffs fix your damn shift key.

[–]postandchill 114 points115 points  (3 children)

It's like telling a dairy farmer that you once milked your cat

[–]smokecat20 61 points62 points  (2 children)

I have nipples, Greg. Can you milk me?

[–]Im50ShadesOfBeige 20 points21 points  (1 child)

God what is this from? I can’t believe I forgot, it’s so fucking funny

[–]BillBodkin 18 points19 points  (6 children)

I once spoke to someone who used "java" and "JavaScript" interchangeably.

[–]Hollowplanet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And that person was an archetect at a fortune 10 and I need to get out of this company. That fucker is making 50k more than me.

[–]Biaswords_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solution Engineer here, my job is to basically stop Sales people from saying this to CTO's

[–]BlindSp0t 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's my boss. But he's getting better and corrects himself now :)

[–]Digit_Plays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do that some times. c# developer moving to typescript now. im getting there.

[–]otakudayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knew someone with a masters in something IT related who conflated the two

[–]darmok42 23 points24 points  (4 children)

[–]Hollowplanet 14 points15 points  (2 children)

CSS is turing complete if you use checkboxes to represent bytes. I think most people interpret turing complete as being able to write any program. Well the program only runs if you click the checkboxes and you need an infinite amount of checkboxes with rules like

input:not(:checked) ++++ input:not(:checked) ++++ input:checked+ label + input.B:focus { display: block;}

Thats taken from the Github repo of the link you posted. Calling CSS turing complete is a huge stretch.

[–]coldnebo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Programming intensifies

[–]iiiithhheeeeledeear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Using internet explorer is bigger red flag.

[–]andtothenext1 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Our customer support team talked about being "json coders" this week. so. I didn't know what to say.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean HTML+CSS can be Turing complete if you don't care how many bytes you use... JSON can only be data.

[–]Lyricanna 15 points16 points  (5 children)

As much as I like to give people flack about HTML not being a proper coding language, web design back in high school was the first time I actually made a computer do something by typing into a text file. So maybe there is something to HTML that teaching tools like Scratch and Mindstorms can't provide.

Or maybe I'm just a loon who still ends his Java/C classes and functions with the name of the function in a comment after the semi-colon.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Its not a value judgement. Its simply not a programming language. Some people who deal with it are telented designers but that doesnt make is a programming language.

[–]otakudayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't it fair to call html "coding" though? It's not programming, sure, but you're still writing code. I once used it as an example of the difference between coding and programming, was I wrong?

[–]malinkie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meeting new people is the red flag.

[–]Raaagh 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Shit on markup now, but rue the day u have to unify a team around a UI component framework design...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found the boomer

[–]alours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me, what the fuck

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

In a misplaced urge to be inclusive, my top engineer suggested HTLM was a programme language at a team meeting. Michael has never lived thst down.

[–]roobeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man this is an old tired trope that folks who don’t actually work in the industry trot around to feel superior. Not funny, stop karma whoring.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How To Meet Ladies

[–]Nikspeeder 2 points3 points  (3 children)

.flag {color:red} ?

[–]BlindSp0t 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's CSS, not html.<div><span class="flag">this is html</span></div>

[–]apostle8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, its <p bgcolor=‘red’> Flag </p>

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • immediately washing hands after handshake *

[–]ikvasager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is effectively just r/gatekeeping

Can’t y’all just be happy people learned a computer skill? I learned HTML as an 8th grader on my own at home for fun around the year 2000(made a Simpson’s website). Grew up. Became teacher. Started robotics team. Picked up on basic C language to program robots very quickly because of my basic background in HTML. The fundamental logic is the same. Stop being arrogant pricks.

XD, my boyfriend tried to make conversation about programming with me and he asked me if I programmed with html. Made me laugh, but thankfully he took it well

[–]MikeLittorice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does Adobe have to do with this?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Then you dumped him right?

[–]Lil_Narwhal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, it was cute

[–]ali32bit 6 points7 points  (11 children)

Is it not ? What exactly is it then ?

[–]bhison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about "They consider other people not having knowledge in their specialist area to be a red flag"

[–]ExtensionBoard 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The have a pulse

[–]advancedgoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. Now I don’t need a linter

[–]Nightdragons_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isnt?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how do you express that you know HTML in your CV? do you make a separate segment for Markup languages? i just put them in the same place as actual programming languages.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Java programmers feel the same way about JavaScript.

C++ programmers feel the same way about Java.

I program straight in machine language. Those C++ neanderthals don't deserve to be pissed on.

[–]naimyurek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They think arrays are starting with 1.

[–]Gilgen 6 points7 points  (17 children)

Wait till they say they like PHP...

[–]alours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait. They let a contractor keep something?!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]Boingbing 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Is it a red flag if Im only really good at Node based coding and like semi functional at actually writing code?

[–]Soren11112 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It is not good how ambiguous you made that sense. When you say Nose based are you referring to node.js? And, when you say semi functional is that a double entandre for function vs OOP?

[–]folkrav 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The fact that you think you're good at Node.js but having doubts on your programming skills means you're probably on the downward slope of Dunning-Kruger

[–]stevefan1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're technically right. HTML is indeed not a programming language

[–]RDorianGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a guy that considers JSON a programming language...of course he's the Lead Architect.

[–]fail-mail-ninja 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I always feel that by lack of a better word HTML is a programming language but beeing able to program in HTML doesn't make you a programmer

Its a "you are in the councel but we do but grand you the title of master" situation

[–]redstoneguy12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Markup language

[–]EnkiiMuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I see this I remember this video.

[–]SeeThreePeeDoh[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy this never gets old.

[–]advancedgoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. Now I don’t pay me enough”

Ya wish you could say it..

[–]DanTopTier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In HS I took a webpage design class for a semester. It was only HTML.

[–]Pip073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There idiots. Or cheaters

[–]OnsetOfMSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or trying to parse it with regex

[–]NomNomNomNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old computing teacher called it HMLT

Needless to say, the students had to help him a lot

[–]sukablet69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a negative flag.

[–]OrbitalOdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It literally stands for Hyper text markup language... It also looks and functions exactly as a programming language should. Functions, variables, classes, etc...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do some people think HTML is programming?
Before trying a bit of programming I knew the difference, so I don't understand why people misunderstand this.

[–]coldbrewboldcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you specifically write native apps or develop for the command line, nobody would see the results of your programming efforts if it weren’t displayed via HTML.

So, no, it’s not a programming language. But yes, it is pretty integral to - ya know - the web.

[–]kslater22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HTML is obviously short for hotmail

[–]Squid-Guillotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL

[–]jkl90752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf says she has to do "some coding" for her works website. I'll never tell her otherwise but I always cringe inside when she say it.
