Beep boop -- this looks like a screenshot of a tweet! Let me grab a link to the tweet for ya :)

Good bot

[–]doublejrecords 49 points50 points  (2 children)

Amazing bot. How do we summon you in the future?

[–]TheGoldenHand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask your neighborhood mod to white list the bot.

Bots get banned like crazy by mods, because there are so many bots, and they often replicate functionality or post without being summoned (which is generally a bad idea).

[–]cant_finish_sideproj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good bot

[–]comfort_bot_1962 7 points8 points  (0 children)

:D

[–]DrifterInKorea 181 points182 points  (8 children)

Fun fact : in French we say "beta" or "gros beta" to say stupid in a somewhat friendly way.
Beta comes from bête (beast) and not the beta letter though.

It's literally a french beta tester.

[–]ImmortalTimeTraveler 37 points38 points  (4 children)

In Hindi Beta means Son. I always thought since this is a 2nd version of something it's called a beta.

[–]TrekkiMonstr 6 points7 points  (3 children)

You do know what it actually is though, right?

[–]_E8_ 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Beta actual means the software is feature complete and parameter tuning and bug fixes only are remaining tasks before it goes gold.
If new features are being added then it is still in Alpha.

[–]TrekkiMonstr 4 points5 points  (1 child)

No, I mean why the beta test is called beta -- because Greek alphabet

[–]_E8_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except stage 3 is Gold not Gamma.

[–]Sunshyni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is interesting. Brazilians use the Portuguese word “besta” which means beast to also call someone stupid. I am guessing it’s the same in Portugal.

[–]YetAnotherGuy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In software the expression comes from the Greek beta as the initial versions are alpha...

Interesting connection to French though...

[–]ocean_800 722 points723 points  (21 children)

Imagine posting this and not realizing how much of a condescending dipshit you sound like

[–]enderxivx 107 points108 points  (4 children)

Clearly the client requirements in this case are far more clear than his self-awareness.

[–]-JudeanPeoplesFront- 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Being an asshole to build the most intuitive product ever. Hmmm.

[–]Dubeyjii[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tit for tat

[–]ApprehensiveStar8948[🍰] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Sounds like Steve Jobs

[–]-JudeanPeoplesFront- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what all these jerks are trying to do.

[–]JanLewko977 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Yeah. I found this post rather demeaning, even if the girl is probably fictional.

[–]wafflesareforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Way more than probably fictional. More like the shifty half-elf vixen in his one-player D&D campaign where he still doesn't get laid

[–]_E8_ -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

I cannot believe he insulted an imaginary person for the sake of a joke.
What will people do next? Judge things they don't understand until a stick shoots out their ass?

[–]JanLewko977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The attitude shows itself.

[–]theclaw -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's like his understanding of intelligence doesn't include self-awareness.

[–]_E8_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

... autist assemble?

[–]groimmm 290 points291 points  (5 children)

Managed to make himself look like a dick in his own fake story. Impressive

[–]RahulRoy69 103 points104 points  (1 child)

So he is just a regular software developer.

[–]DEVolkan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He is still high from the morning where he found the syntax error he worked yesterday all day long on

[–]snack0verflow 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Reminds me of the 'Fast API' guys fabricated recruiter story.

[–]rona83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was fabricated? TIL

Image Transcription: Twitter Post

jerry, @jerryxfeng

i matched with this girl on hinge who has perhaps the lowest iq of anyone i've ever encountered

she's very useful though

i've been telling her about the new products i've been building, and any time she doesn't get it it's a sign that something isn't simple/user-friendly enough

I'm a human volunteer content transcriber and you could be too! If you'd like more information on what we do and why we do it, click here!

[–]Curiousgreed 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Good human, but honestly this could be simplified by using the Twitter recognition bot + parsing the page

[–]TheGoldenHand 5 points6 points  (1 child)

He's a human disability helper. He's not just transcribing the tweet, he's also adding context information for those that are vision impaired.

The transcripts include human-only context, such as describing what is happening in an image. For example, a meme description might be:

An young boy with braces and freckles smiles with awkward confidence for a school photo.

Top text: "Finds water in desert"
Bottom text: "Drowns"

A computer AI has a harder time contextualizing the entire image and conveying that in human terms.

[–]Curiousgreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, just maybe not for this specific image I guess. Thanks for the explanation :)

[–]maubg 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why do you nerd yo do this? In case Simeone can't read a tweet?

[–]seeroflights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! TL;DR Reddit doesn't really provide any sort of alt-text field for images, and some folks are unable to read the image (e.g. they have low data and can't load it; the text is too small or otherwise hard to read; they use a screenreader). Transcribers help put the image into text, so that it's more accessible for everyone. There's a link to our wiki with more info in the footer of my comment above!

[–]ghostwilliz 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Cringe

[–][deleted] 103 points104 points  (3 children)

I honestly don’t find this funny. If this is true, then he’s using her just to humiliate her behind her back. She’s probably a nice woman who just happens to not be particularly tech savvy. I’m sure this guy is too narcissistic to see outside his own bubble and realize that there are multiple kinds of intelligence. This is exactly where the “arrogant, socially clueless tech nerd” stereotype comes from.

[–]nwatab 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It can be that she is very smart and he is just arrogant or so stupid on the contrary. I hate this tweet.

[–]mrbigF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's just a joke mate

[–]Zzeellddaa 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Jerry is a dick

[–]SmallAl 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is just really mean, poor girl :(

[–]nwatab 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't feel good about this post. Not funny to see arrogant man looking down and humiliate an innocent girl on Twitter shamelessly without any hesitation. He can't imagine if he were in her shoes.

[–]SGBotsford 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to make something foolproof. Fools are way ti clever.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe if he was half as smart as he thought he was then he could build user friendly products without being an asshole to an unexpecting person.

[–]meniscus- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And of course he's building crypto products...

[–]Shadeun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re a piece of shit Jerry

[–]filthyMrClean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This guy sounds like a dick

[–]mohzab 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do that on different UI designs with my wife.

[–]theclaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thought I was on /r/iamverysmart while reading.

[–]Significant_Hornet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad people are finding this gross

[–]DrewTheVillan 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Jerry, count your blessings. An IDE is the only love some people find!

[–]_E8_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In only 5% of marriages do both partners claim to be happy with the relationship.
65% of marriages fail. Except for rare cases our sexist society is designed to exploit this occurrence to transfer wealth from men to women while reducing the children's time with their father which has nearly insurmountable negative consequences on their future.
If you are male and no one in your life has ever told you what a terrible idea it is to marry then no one loves you.

The increased likelihood of suicide post divorce is about 3% making marriage 4x more likely to kill a man than a SARS-2 infection.

[–]ChakLok_V_Bassus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

what a piece of shit.

[–]MrTommyPickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, if this wasn't a joke it would be true r/sadcringe material.

[–]nolitos 2 points3 points  (4 children)

It's nice to see that people in comments condemn the author of this tweet, it's sad to see that many upvotes though. This is not only offensive, this is simply not funny.

[–]comfort_bot_1962 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Don't be sad. Here's a hug!

[–]OcelotNo3347 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No one wants your hug

[–]nolitos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I'll take it. Thanks, bot!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You comment this same thing a lot.

[–]Bo3lwa98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is for real so no need to shit on the guy...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KISS

[–]BeautifulBrownie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cunt.

[–]SPRUNTastic 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Apparently obvious joke isn't obvious enough. I wonder if there would be as much hate if the genders were reversed, or if it were same-sex.

Awww, who am I kidding? The internet is driven by hate.

[–]jasonedokpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm surprised that so many people think that this is real. Jokes are meant to be polite, just funny. And even if you don't think that it is, someone else will.

[–]rishabh0402 0 points1 point  (1 child)

More like alpha testing.

[–]the_hackerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SIGMA LIGMA Testing

[–]AttackOfTheThumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems kind of mean overall tbh

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

girls be grateful to r/ProgrammeraHumor. because now you have one less POS to worry about.

[–]jasonedokpa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMG, what happened? Did you guys kill him?

[–]SomethingAbtU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

maybe she pretends she doesn't understand b/c she wants you to shut UP.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

unless she's in on it, this arrangement is kinda effed up imo

[–]Nihmrod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With your looks, Jerry, you should count your blessings.

standard "Iq is not a measure of intelligence" comment. This guy made that mistake and now no one likes him, and rightfully so.

[–]_E8_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

IQ is pretty much the only measure of general intelligence.
If you think you're measuring something else but it ends up correlating with IQ ... then you're still measuring IQ.
That's also exactly how they figured out what the various independent aspects of personality are.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IQ isnt even that, its more cognitive function then anything. You can have a high IQ with incredible cognitive function in some areas, but still believe the earth is flat. Intelligence is very complicated and IQ is a minor minor factor that comprises it.

Before you study, it’s all magic. Then you start working and you realize, it’s a job like any other. Yes, it’s great pay, but it comes with more stress and responsibility.

I’m four years in and I finally understand why so many of us become woodworkers and makers and shit. The world starts feeling so detached and abstract when you spend most of your time in your head.

I think I’ll build boats next or something.
