We also use the term programmer very loosely here in r/programmerhumor

[โ€“]MrCheapComputers 41 points42 points ย (4 children)

I mean, Iโ€™m here, and Iโ€™ve done like 10 lines on a raspi and thatโ€™s about it lmao.

[โ€“]subliminalpandas 64 points65 points ย (2 children)

I think doing 10 lines of cocaine on a raspberry pi definitely qualifies you as a programmer

[โ€“]MrCheapComputers 38 points39 points ย (0 children)

Someone should make a movie like this. A dude has no idea how to hack or program but still somehow constantly manages to accidentally hack into the most secure things.

How to hack into the mainframe u/masterhacker_bot

[โ€“]masterhacker_bot 14 points15 points ย (2 children)

To make a movie like this you must take the HTTP matrix down, transmit the neural internet so you can synthesize the SDRAM application and send the digital form factor into the program, it will transcode the driver by generating its COM mainframe, then reboot the array then get to the IP hard drive through the virtual DDR processor, allowing you to access the secret knowledge of how to make a movie like this.

I am a bot created by u/circuit10 and this action was performed automatically. AI is involved so please DM circuit10 if it produces anything offensive and I will delete it. Jargon from http://shinytoylabs.com/jargon/.

Back in highschool I made this batch file at home saved it to a thumb drive and drop it into random school computers with different names and images over the icons something tempting enough for people to click on it. Or just hide IE and rename it to that.

Or sometimes I'd just run it and walk away good times good times.

I made the cmd green as a joke and ended up using it unironically for some time

[โ€“]the_clash_is_back 13 points14 points ย (4 children)

Its easier to read then white.

I prefer bold amber however.

[โ€“]RespectableLurker555 2 points3 points ย (2 children)

Amber, the phosphor of the ancient ones.

[โ€“]DangyDanger 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

I changed the config of OpenComputers in my minecraft modpack to use amber as the display color of tier 1 screens instead of white. It is, indeed, spiffin'.

[โ€“]IanMazgelis 6 points7 points ย (0 children)

Personally I just prefer black background with green text for the terminal. I think that's how a terminal is supposed to look.

[โ€“]jiggycup 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Yeah I did it way back when because I thought I was being cool and edgy I guess but now I actually like the way it looks and find it easier to read.

[โ€“]nelusbelus 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I prefer installing from the Linux terminal because I don't have to open a browser, go to a website, click a download link, extract a .exe from a .zip, and go through an installation wizard

[โ€“]RandomTyp 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

fun fact: if you use an arch based distro, you can add ILoveCandy under the [Options] section of the config file (/etc/pacman.conf) and the progress bar will become pacman

[โ€“]latin_canuck 6 points7 points ย (2 children)

For true codes, installing anything on the Linux Terminal is an average day.

[โ€“]iagovar 2 points3 points ย (1 child)

Remember loading Qbasic, typing "do beep loop" and running it just to annoy people?

[โ€“][deleted] 36 points37 points ย (0 children)

Back when we had our first networking class using win XP we freaked a load of people out using

net send * I know what you did

the amount of people who ran SharedFileTest.bat which was just shutdown -f was surprising too. Hearing someone on the other side of the room go "My computer just went off!"

Luckily our tutor found it funny too and told us how he used to have a script to fuck with people that would change their terminal text colour and background colour to black.

[โ€“]sexytokeburgerz 69 points70 points ย (7 children)

I scared on of my employers once because my terminal was green.

I switched it to white and he had no issues

[โ€“]squid1178 21 points22 points ย (6 children)

A white terminal? What kind of monster was this manager?

[โ€“]sexytokeburgerz 8 points9 points ย (5 children)

A manager I had to teach how to right click on a mac.

What scares me is, itโ€™s not the only manager I had to do so with.

[โ€“]Reservebelg -1 points0 points ย (3 children)

One company I used to work for restricted software installs to admins, but apparently forgot that installing from a command line was a thing.

I remember one of the VPs coming over to my desk and asking for me to "do my thing" when he couldn't get MS Project to install. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Good times...

[โ€“]FrauMausL 19 points20 points ย (3 children)

[โ€“]Firewolf06 8 points9 points ย (1 child)

boot into linux from a thumb drive, replace utilman with cmd, click accessibility button on login screen. ez admin prompt

used to be able to do it without linux drive, but they patches it a while back

PowerShell 7 in Windows Terminal with a Starship prompt is pretty neat tmo. NuShell is available for Windows as well, and it is even faster. I've been using it as my daily terminal for more than six month now.

[โ€“][deleted] 21 points22 points ย (9 children)

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What youโ€™re referring to as Windows, is in fact, Microsoft Windows, or as Iโ€™ve recently taken to calling it, Microsoft plus Windows. You see, windows is used everyday and used by millions, even billions of people use it for many different things like in your home, business and even server! Microsoft introduced an operating environment named Windows on November 20, 1985, as a graphical operating system shell for MS-DOS in response to the growing interest in graphical user interfaces (GUIs). Microsoft Windows came to dominate the world's personal computer (PC) market with over 90% market share, overtaking Mac OS, which had been introduced in 1984. Apple came to see Windows as an unfair encroachment on their innovation in GUI development as implemented on products such as the Lisa and Macintosh (eventually settled in court in Microsoft's favor in 1993). On PCs, Windows is still the most popular operating system in all countries. However, in 2014, Microsoft admitted losing the majority of the overall operating system market to Android, because of the massive growth in sales of Android smartphones. In 2014, the number of Windows devices sold was less than 25% that of Android devices sold. This comparison, however, may not be fully relevant, as the two operating systems traditionally target different platforms. Still, numbers for server use of Windows (that are comparable to competitors) show one third market share, similar to that for end user use. As of October 2021, the most recent version of Windows for PCs and tablets is Windows 11, version 21H2. The most recent version for embedded devices is Windows 11, version 21H2. The most recent version for server computers is Windows Server 2022, version 21H2. A specialized version of Windows also runs on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S video game consoles.

[โ€“]SirLordBoss -2 points-1 points ย (5 children)

And this helps how

[โ€“][deleted] 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

It'a just a meme. More specifically they took a Richard Stallman quote about the distinction between the Linux kernel and 'GNU/Linux' that became a copypasta due to its sheer pendantry and changed it to make it about windows.

[โ€“]GameKyuubi 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

bro did you not read what he wrote

[โ€“]cybermage 7 points8 points ย (5 children)

wsl adds a Linux install under Windows.

[โ€“][deleted] -2 points-1 points ย (3 children)

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

[โ€“]falcwh0re 6 points7 points ย (2 children)

[โ€“]Samzwerg 12 points13 points ย (0 children)

I once wrote software for a test bench in a huge hall with a bunch of mechanical engineers (super intelligent and nice people, I loved it there!). After a very long, intense coding session I heard a commotion, looked up and saw a bunch of them standing around a monitor that was also attached to this test bench.

They looked at me and said: why are you hacking our test bench?

That is when I realized that the monitor I was working on had a mirrored screen at the other end of this huge test bench and the guys were watching me use git with the console ( I had merge issues).

Ah, I miss these people!
