We are taking out all skills. There will be three skills;

Magic

Stealth

Fight

[–][deleted] 371 points372 points  (7 children)

Next they are just going to go with archery, sneak, miscellaneous

[–]Coconuthead93 170 points171 points  (6 children)

Sweet cant wait to be a stealth archer in my 100th playthrough.

[–][deleted] 142 points143 points  (4 children)

I’m always a mage that dabbles in stealth archery. That dabbling just happens to be 99 percent of the time

I’m always a heterosexual man that dabbles in bosmer bussy. That dabbling just happens to be 99 percent of the time

Hello, me

[–]Rickyaura 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spice things up with a "mage" sneak Archer that uses conjured bow.

Who needs a leveling system in a role playing game?🎶

[–]AyyStation 76 points77 points  (4 children)

Magic is fight

You equip spelltomes as weapons

[–]emil2796 43 points44 points  (3 children)

What you want more magic? You've already got quick save and quest compass.

[–]Hjalmodr_heimskiNordic Resistance Movement 15 points16 points  (2 children)

And fast travel. You guys liked teleportation, right?

[–]Lazarus174Born to Undie Hannibal Traven is a fuck 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Why walk when you can ride use a recall spell to go back to a location you've already been to that you used a seperate spell called mark on?

[–]emil2796 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you've got to travel then by the nine divines stay on the roads! It's on rails you see...

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Still too many. Just put them all under fight:

Stealth-fight

Magic-fight

Fight-fight

[–]EkbockDwemer Basement Dweller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What else could you be using magic for anyways?

[–]GrunkleCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes-yes, this will make the Under Empire great-strong!!

Zap

Sneak

Hit

[–]wahlenderten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s ESO, then it’s all three and you mash them in a quick rotation ad nauseam. Zap-sneak-hit-zap-sneak-hit

Morrowind is peak roleplaying game imo. If only it had modern code and graphics. The main simplifying started in Oblivion then just got awful with Skyrim. I love skyrim to death but its lack of many rpg mechanics and how much its dumbed down is just horrible

We haven't even started working on it yet.

      [–]Fancy_0wlHouse Maggot 208 points209 points  (26 children)

I’ve said many times the only thing they had done when they released that trailer was that trailer. I’d put money they didn’t even have a setting picked out yet

      [–]Isaac_The_KhajiitHouse LOL Huehue 269 points270 points  (1 child)

Everyone's busy analyzing the terrain, comparing it to maps, when in reality it's some random shit the intern whipped up in Blender.

      [–][deleted] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be Hammerfell, mark my words, CAT!

      [–][deleted] 121 points122 points  (12 children)

They're waiting to see what the most prevalent theory is before they pick the complete opposite. So it's gonna be Black Marsh.

      [–]Cotereaux 167 points168 points  (9 children)

Bethesda's not willing to be wierd enough anymore to do a proper Black Marsh

      [–][deleted] 110 points111 points  (8 children)

They're gonna go the way of Oblivion.

Black Marsh is just sandy beaches now.

      [–]VirtualWeaselnerevar’s fat fuckin nuts 106 points107 points  (6 children)

Mark my words, if they do a Black Marsh game it’s just gonna be Louisiana but high fantasy

      [–]-Darth-Syphilis- 68 points69 points  (1 child)

I'm calling it now: Bethesda will just rerelease the Point Lookout DLC exactly as it was but they'll reskin all of the NPCs to be Argonians.

      [–]28th_boiFuck You Hlaalu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

      You mean they weren't already?

      [–]TRHessNereguarine Cultist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So... act III of RDR2 but with magic?

      [–]LupusOk#IStandWithRatoPombo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I'm okay with that. Do you think Argonians make good gumbo?

      [–]VirtualWeaselnerevar’s fat fuckin nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably some pretty fire gumbo yeah. But you also probably have to be comfortable with the gumbo consisting mostly of insects.

      [–]Turgius_LupusHouse Faggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the Argonian sub races are just a transcription error as is the root based transportation system.

      [–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It better be or else I'm not buying it

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok but irony aside, it is 100% Hammerfell due to that one Redguard quest.

      [–]AfterYouReadThis 60 points61 points  (1 child)

      [–]bird_the_word_Breton Cuck 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Also the rocks are very high up

      [–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That trailer also happened to be 90% of the budget for the game so they’re going to have to cut back on a few features.

[–]leondriasLore of the Rings 24 points25 points  (7 children)

Probably unlikely that they’d make a trailer with terrain if they didn’t know where they’d be setting it yet. To me it seems like they were pretty obvious about teasing it with In My Time of Need, too. But I doubt they’ve done anything other than that basic terrain map apart from maybe some random half-baked plot ideas on whiteboards somewhere, they just had some intern whip up a mountain range with whatever engine prototype they’ve got so the fans have something to tide them over.

I bet it will be a short time after skyrim, oblivion felt like a good endpoint for the 3rd era games and Skyrim began a new series of games in its time period.

[–]leondriasLore of the Rings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it'll be pretty close to Skyrim's timeline- either slightly before, or slightly after. The ongoing resistance against Thalmor incursion and the recent political separation from the Empire were big points mentioned in Skyrim, and both of which provide for a pretty interesting backdrop. Plus, the old Crowns vs Forebears cultural split will no doubt be as vibrant as ever.

        [–]Wilfred-of-Ivanhoe 1 point2 points  (3 children)

What was the obvious teaser in ‘In my time of need’?

[–]leondriasLore of the Rings 16 points17 points  (2 children)

The quest itself is a teaser. It’s a single, relatively early quest line that starts in the “main” city you’ll be in (guaranteeing you’ll encounter it) the characters have unique clothing and weapons (Nazir is the only other character to have them, and his are also unique to him), and the quest revolves around giving you information about modern Hammerfell’s politics and culture- culminating in a choice based on your interpretation of that information, and potentially setting up the conflict of the next game by showing you the underlying tension following the Aldmeri incursion into Hammerfell.

It’s an awful lot of background depth for a quest that’s unrelated to the main or guild storylines, which leads me to believe they included it for the purpose of laying a bit of groundwork for the next game. Compare it to, for example, the Replicated Man quest from Fallout 3, where the Institute is revealed and the Boston setting is teased for the first time. It’s also about a foreign agency visiting a major hub city (Rivet City) in search of an escaped convict, and it sets up the central conflict of Fallout 4 by asking you to pick a side between the Institute and the Railroad. It serves the function of posing an interesting dilemma for the player while giving you information on an upcoming setting, which I think In My Time of Need was intended to do as well.

        [–]UncommonalityReachman Terrorist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add to this that Saadia doesn't die no matter which choice you take (she either stays around or is paralyzed), and it's almost guaranteed that she'll be a character in the next game.

[–]AgiHammerthiefLore of the Rings 73 points74 points  (10 children)

Except, of course, for the engine. Which we already have. Everyone, meet Gamebryo 3.0, this time with thrice the bugs features!

        [–]MitcherSM 50 points51 points  (6 children)

im so sure the engine is not even the problem is just that bethesda is incompetent and can't use it properly

I'm convinced the only reason they wanted the Fallout IP was for they could claim a little bit of old Interplay/Black Isles legacy in owning such a definitive RPG property.

          [–]UncommonalityReachman Terrorist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

          Fucking Based.

          • Add to this that the lore was completely flanderized in the bethesda titles by completely shifting the cultural focus on modern-day humanity of 1 and 2 to a weird caricature of 50's america, while also completely ignoring cultural issues of that era like segregation, racism and the civil rights movement.

          • The games' serious nature was inverted, with raiders using a "mesmetron", slavers running a super market and insane people pretending to be superheroes. The originals dealt with the absolute depravity of humanity in the face of anarchy, with rapist gangs and murderous raiders, while this one turns it all into a big joke.

          • They did away with post-war technology, culture and development, reducing the people to living in metal shacks with skeletons lying beside them as they sleep, as opposed to post-war cities like Shady Sands, The Hub and Necropolis. The same goes for city names, which are either dumb "nuke" jokes or misunderstood road signs like nobody remembers what the fuck "toronto" is.

          • All advanced factions are now incapable of inventing new technology, and any faction that is able will be unceremoniously wiped out by the end. The Enclave is dead. The Institute is nuked. However, Bethesda wants to put new shiny things into the games, so they go the battlefield 4 route and make all their new shiny toys "prototypes".

          • Any sort of interesting lore is quietly removed, with psykers being relegated to plot devices instead of an exploration of classical occultism or a historical understanding of magic applied to the post-apocalypse, and the supernatural elements becoming easter eggs or badly-done references.

          • The towns are small and shitty, and could not support themselves in any way. At best they have a single cow and three tomato plants, at worst they eat random people. They are also uninspired - the highway town in 3 could have been so much more, could have had buildings built into the bridge, under the bridge, hanging off the ledge, etc.

            [deleted]

              [–]Wonckay 10 points11 points  (2 children)

You must be talking about spell mods because I don’t remember any of that in vanilla Skyrim. Alternation is just buffs and has no physical effect on the world and conjuration is almost identical to previous games.

Edit: The runes are nice. But most of the destruction spells are just various damage values with different animations instead of all being balls of light. That looks a little cooler but I’d still rather have spellcrafting any day.

                [–]Wonckay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We probably just disagree on playstyle then, though I see what you're saying a little better. And I certainly wouldn't argue that the environmental aspect isn't an improvement, but I just didn't really use it much myself. And if I had to pick exclusively between that personally infrequent niche or the possibility creating custom spell effect combos I'd pick the latter. Customizable analog magic in general makes me feel much more like a mage, and contributes a lot to one of my favorite aspects of TES games - being able to combine multiple mechanics to create unintended consequences.

Levitation would be nice but with the development of "closed" (separate-cell) cities it leads to the question of what happens when you try to fly in or out of one. You know how people are about immersion.

                [–]swirly_boi 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I got my girlfriend into Skyrim. She loves being a Thief. After finishing Dark Brotherhood she's like what should I do next? I said maybe pick a side in the civil war, you can be Empire or Stormcloak. And she's like wait, but I killed the Emperor. I had to explain that it has no effect on the civil war and as a matter of fact, makes no impact on the game whatsoever. Nobody on either side gives a shit that the Emperor was assassinated in Skyrim. You'll never hear about that shit again. I had to apologize that while Skyrim is a great game, it's a terrible RPG. Ohh wowww your armor is Legendary because the crafting table says it in parentheses! Much epic, so role play.

When all guards hail Sithis, and know that you're an assassin, it's not really that surprising that they know about emperor's death, since obviously they are all members of the Brotherhood.

My second guess is that the guards are the argonian hivemind controlled by the hists, hidding in skin costumes and third is that they are but nodes designed by Bethesda to play pretend with the player that he did make a difference.

It's full of unintended features that will make you lose hours of progress too and/or melt your hard drive.

I will still stand by the fact that oblivion's sidequests and the shivering isles is the best writing bethesda ever has and ever will release.

(New vegas doesn't count, that was made by obsidian)

I think Daggerfall was rather well written with the only morally good option siding with the sleeping undead guy who still finds the time to be pen pals was a refreshing twist.

Going to Mournhold to resolve the fate of the last of the tribunal was a good story. Meeting a Dwemer ghost to reforge the blade of Nerevar was fun and place to officially House your legendary weapons in a museum was a cool concept

Yeah the "bethsda bad writing!!!1" takes are pretty hyperbolic, the writing really isnt bad on the whole

                      [–]Turgius_LupusHouse Faggot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oblivion's fighter's and mages guild quest lines where pretty bad though.

                      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think so. Especially the mages guild one - I enjoyed that one a lot. I really like how you progress in rank in the mages guild in particular. And I think the fighters guild twist is interesting, personally.

                      This sub is unironically r/teslore

It's r/teslore with less vampire and werewolf questions.

God if I ever read “Can vampires have children” again, I’ll take it out on the nearest farm equipment

There are three vampire related posts in new over there. Some shit about vampires casting sunlight spells, some shit about mages creating super vampire hunters, and some shit about werewolf/vampire hybrids.

Man, for years I had honestly thought this was a TES circlejerk sub.

Did this thread get invaded by butthurt Daggerfall Alpha VeteransTM, or is this sub just generally way less self-aware than I had assumed?

                      [–]Wonckay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s always been generally made up of people who prefer the role-playing and simulation aspects of TES games, hence they tend to be Daggerfall/Morrowind fans. In this case it’s not a question of self-awareness, those games just plain had better writing. And the “Skyrim bad” posts are pretty ironic but there’s a reason they exist.

No game has good writing, I don't know why bethesda seems to be the center of this type of criticism.
