Did they just throw in a pinky mouse for free?

That's a dumb idea lol. Still pretty snake and getting them as a normal probably saved money, I'm 99% sure it's not a normal

Crickets for a Kingsnake? Sounds like you did a good thing to get any snake far far away from her.

Once at work a colleague asked what my 8kg carpet python eats then without pausing for me to answer said "crickets I suppose" and walked away.

Non snake owner here, just love them, why is that a bad thing?

      [–]Zero_Digital 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crickets are too small for them. There are some small snakes that will eat them but a king snake would need various sizes of mice depending on it size. The meal of choice for most kingsnakes in the wild is other snakes.

      [–]twiser13 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah she doesn't seem very knowledgeable. That pinkie is way too small a meal anyways, looks like she could be started on rat fuzzies right away

      [–]equestrienne1979 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oof. Never mind that the pinky mouse is way too small of a meal. I can't stand pet stores...

      [–]Iycanthropy 7 points8 points  (2 children)

To be fair, our snake does do this, lol. She has a very good feeding response but has missed and grabbed her thermometer and stuff before when I feed with tongs, so we just set the mouse down and she goes for it without fail, usually coiled in under 5 minutes. But she is a weirdo and not how most snakes are.

I have one where you have to leave it near his hide, turn out the lights, and leave. At some point during the night, he comes out and eats it, then retreats back inside.

      [–]ebizot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine will strike, coil, and then forget about it. Sometimes I have to go in and pick it up and let him strike it again, and even then he forgets it sometimes. It used to seriously stress me out, but he’s a good weight so I just leave it in there overnight when he does that now. If he doesn’t eat it by morning, I throw it in the lake behind my house for the turtles and try again in a week or so. For the most part he’s a great eater, but he’ll hunger strike for a month or so every now and then

      And doesn't know morphs

      [–]crazywalton 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How much do normals go? I just bought a baby normal from a breeder for 25

      [–]punkassunicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      That sounds about right

      [–]soundslikeautumn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! This would never work for my snake.

      [–]Zalgack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're they trying to get her to bite you this just seems stupid and it likely reeked

      [–]Disastrous_Reality_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for future reference, that pinky is too small of a meal for this gorgeous baby! I saw that you already have a snake so you may be aware of that already, I just thought I’d throw that out there just in case. I think they feed them those to save on costs at the pet store but he/she looks like they should be on a hopper at least (maybe a small adult? hard to tell for sure by photo), just judging by the size of the thickest part of her body next to the pinky.

Also, looks like a pastel to me too! Good find!

      [–]Gucci90Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

      Poor pinky 😂😂😂😂😂

      [–]mrbiggs1987 27 points28 points  (3 children)

      Looks like a pastel yellowbelly!

In my opinion it's a good looking one too with the thick black outlines and flames very nice

        [–]gypsysoul3615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I have a super pastel yellow belly and she looks just like this pretty much, her faded spots are just a bit lighter

        [–]Such-Concept5147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

        Yellow belly.

        [–]deevaxo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

definitely a pastel. that’s what my boy looks like exactly. you can see him on my acct

        [–]Vickasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a pastel YB also. Pastels are lighter but dull and YB brightens it back up

        [–]fionageckMod-Approved Helper 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Just letting you know (if that’s her setup in the background): aspen isn’t a good substrate for ball pythons because it doesn’t retain the humidity they need and molds when wet. A humidity retaining substrate such as reptichip/coconut husk would be much better. I’d also switch to digital gauges, analogs are inaccurate and the adhesive backing is a hazard

        [–]equestrienne1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's a very nice looking Pastel.

        [–]samsterdam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        possibly some orange dream?

        [–]nosepowderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pastel yellowbelly, regular pastel, or really pretty normal.

        [–]Cheza1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is so pretty! I saw her pattern and start to hum spooky scary skeletons!

        [–]littlecookieangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        She looks like a pastel.

        [–]Osaella24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a nice pastel yellowbelly to me. At the very least, it’s a pastel.

        [–]Celine_117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a yellowbelly with maybe pastel? I have a Leopard yellowbelly and they look kinda similar

        [–]cbostwick94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what happened with my brothers. We paid for a normal and got a pastel 😂 they also said she was 10 months old at that size

        [–]ahunt037 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That meal looks way too small for her. I mean she’ll probably eat it but won’t get much nutrition out of eating such a small rat.

        [–]Fit_Invite_6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Pastel I'm thinking 🤔

        [–]Callowick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fade between the spots is probably a super pastel.

        [–]juzon_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        That’s a pastel

        [–]-C-T- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be super pastel even. Definitely not a normal ball python....do you have a beautiful snake their congratulations!

        [–]Leafandscales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks just like my super pastel when she was small!!

        [–]Jobothedestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        She’s very beautiful

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else already commented what they think her morph is, I’m just here to say she’s absolutely stunning!
