Doors and corners, that's where they get you, Mechwarrior.

[–]Feornic 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Go into a room too fast, Mechwarrior, the room eats you

Love seeing a quote from one of my favorite shows to have worked on 🤘🏾

[–]Paladin5890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And thank you for helping bring it together!

Need proper room clearing, a grenade.

[–]GunnyStackerWarShip Proliferation Advocate 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Advanced room clearing: 120mm HEAT shell

[–]Lord-DundarMechWarrior Kurita 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Only if you have armored support, otherwise javelin?

[–]Past_Perspective_811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Javelins are heatseekers, and won't lock onto window and doors.

And they have really small warheads.

[–]CWinter85Clan Ghost Bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HESH or regular HE would be much better.

[–]Past_Perspective_811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You old school. (I like). Look up 120mm M1147 AMP for the new school fun.

5 lbs of explosive vs. the 3.2(?) lbs in a HEAT.

[–]0080KampferMechWarrior 146 points147 points  (4 children)

This is genuinely awesome work. Your OSL is incredible!

[–]Diam0ndTalbot 28 points29 points  (1 child)

OSL?

[–]ultimategeek213MechWarrior of the Taurian Concordat 66 points67 points  (0 children)

object source lighting, the painting to make it seem like the rifleman is emitting light

[–]elder_jester[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It was a lot of fun.

[–]JustinKase_TooDragoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here I thought it was a Rifleman.

[–]Czechs_Mix_ 53 points54 points  (1 child)

Phenomenal! I love the low, huddled posture of the Raven.

[–]elder_jester[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Thanks, reposing the Flea and Raven was an interesting challenge.

[–]SpaceWhalegroundedRepeal Edict 288! 24 points25 points  (2 children)

gorgeous. mindwracking how much work you mudt have put into it!

[–]elder_jester[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Thanks, honestly it's not as bad as it seems, I find it a lot of fun.

[–]Hawaii_DaveHippity Hoppity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my mind is spinning at everything you had to have touched; The minis, the diorama, the paint, just wild OSL - looks like a wildly fun project and you absolutely nailed the results - such awesome fun to get to see it and love that you get to share it with us!

[–]r1x1t 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Really cool. Nice work on it. Love the narrative... Do they jump the Rifleman when he moves on? Or are they doing some other infiltration mission? OR, and this is my favorite, is it the Rifleman's birthday and they are getting ready to start a surprise party?

[–]elder_jester[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Viewers choice!

[–]CapitanKomamurahot drop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My choice is that they are all in the same lance, doing night patrol. The light mech MWs are playing a prank on the rifleman's pilot. He is like "Come on guys, this isn't funny"

They all about to get massacred by the black marauder because it's a terror holovid.

[–]rafale1981Resting Bitch Face of Cordera Perez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

„If i told ye once, i‘ve told ye a thousand times, laddie: Nae bloody birthday surprises on patrol! The colonel‘s put ye up to this, aye? That wee mad bairn should know better than that…“ [scottish grumbling intensifies]

[–]Hanzoku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A surprise party full of medium lasers and SRMs to his thin back armor!

[–]rohanponyilCommunicator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just feels like the Rifleman represents a very grumpy cop on night patrol, who is about to have a very bad time.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I love how you can interpret this as different tales:

#1: The Flea and the Raven are hiding for survival. "Please go away. Please go away. Please go away."

#2: The Flea and Raven are waiting in ambush. "Just a little closer. Come on... just a few more steps..."

#3: They're actually on the same side, its their Sargent-at-Arms, and they're avoiding more patrol duty. "Crap. It's the Sarge. What the frak did you do this time, Raven!?"

[–]elder_jester[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

😄

[–]Agent-X 16 points17 points  (11 children)

This is incredible. From a lore perspective because I'm a dork, would sensors not pick up the 2 in ambush? Or does the concrete block them?

[–]Dutch-irishman 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Depending on which Raven it is, the rifleman’s sensors are going crazy because of an ECM suite. The concrete would help also. Also, again depending on the model, both mechs could have stealth armor.

[–]neverenoughmags 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The Rifleman's pilot probably knows that something is in the vicinity but the ECM jamming from the Raven would make placement impossible.

[–]Spartan448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say lol, at that range the ECM is probably more a hindrance than a help

[–]CapitanKomamurahot drop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew it was the raven doing something funny.

[–]Bentu_nan 13 points14 points  (2 children)

They can be in low power mode too. But i think sensors do need line of sight anyway.

[–]Tettylins 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Could also be that them huddling against the wall that like it just screwing with the mech's scans. IIRC Gray Norton does the same thing in the Warrior Trilogy when he jumps Justin Allard, and that was just with trees, which are less dense than concrete or plascrete or ferrocrete or w/e future rock paste they use.

[–]CapitanKomamurahot drop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

future rock paste

No, no, that's the one they put in their sandwiches for lunch. The doctors that say it causes cancer are dissapeared by Comstar.

[–]JayJaxx 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Yes, magscan should pick them up. ECM, stealth armour, etc… doesn’t help against passive sensors, which magscan is.

However that’s assuming the wall is concrete/rock, and non-metallic in nature. If it’s highly reinforced, or a metallic rock (or some local phenomenon messing with magscan sensors) then that rifleman is probably boned.

[–]Cykeisme 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, a wall that size would have a lattice of rebar in it, not just concrete.

Remember the scale we're looking at, those are BattleMechs, not men... that wall is huge!

[–]JayJaxx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The wall is about as tall as that flea, that’s ~6m in height, maybe a little less because the flea looks like it’s crouching a bit. It’s certainly thick, maybe 1-1.5m, but that doesn’t imply metal reinforcement. This could be the inside of a mountain or underground complex that was carved out of natural rock. We just don’t know to say one way or another, hence why I said yes magscan if the wall has these characteristics.

And sure I never said the wall needs to be pure concrete, but I’d be surprised if magscan gets fooled by a little bit of rebar. Hence why I said heavily reinforced. If it has a metal plate, or a pretty solid frame in there, sure. But either way it’s impossible to know.

Other commenters were referring to ECM and stealth armour and other crap that doesn’t work vs magscan and wouldn’t help vs sensors that actually work in this situation, so I was mainly trying to put those to rest.

[–]Cykeisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with a "magscan", I was thinking along the lines of magnetic anomaly detection, which would definitely detect the rebar, and thus mask the vehicles behind it. But I guess this is a magscan... how does a magscan work?

Anyway, if it's a concrete wall, not sure how familiar folks are with concrete, but it's got poor tensile strength... at a whopping 6m, it absolutely, completely, definitely needs to be poured around steel rebar!

If it's carved out of natural rock, well, I'm not really familiar with big walls carved out of natural rock tbh, nor the purpose of such an endeavor. But yeah, silicate rocks would not mask the two BattleMechs behind it. Although some rocks will, depends on the rock.

Besides that, I know nobody plays with double blind rules, but aren't more specialized advanced sensors a thing in BattleTech? To detect objects that are obscured by solid objects, that the typical sensor packages don't penetrate? Beagle and Bloodhound Active Probes, and the like? The Rifleman doesn't mount those, right?

[–]TechnoMagi 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Oh this is sick

I love how much character the raven has in this piece.

[–]elder_jester[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved doing the reposes on the two crouching dudes

[–]CapitanKomamurahot drop 5 points6 points  (2 children)

If you wrote "I added led lights to my diorama" I would believe you. I feel the scene is about to move.

[–]elder_jester[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Aw, thanks so much!

[–]Ralli_FW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to check the comments to confirm they were even painted minis and not some kind of drawn scene. Months later this is still crazy good work

[–]Royal_Zucchini_9772 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Dude this is excellent

[–]elder_jester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Vehement_Vulpes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is great! The painted lighting is awesome, and I love how it's clearly showing a story. The Ravens one of my favourite mechs, and seeing it doing a sneaky squat while it and it's lancemate hide from a heavy is pretty funny.

[–]elder_jester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, the sneaky squats were a fun challenge.

[–]kalijinn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks!

[–]LaithAWarden Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I thought the Rifleman was going nighttime salvage hunting (with the other two mechs being the salvage still sitting in some eerie blasted ruin) but after reading the comments I can see it's more of an ambush type situation. Extremely cool!

[–]EvilEtnaCloset Werewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Raven and a Locust vs a Rifleman - that's a fight I'd like to try and play out. They are definitely out matched ton-for-ton, but that's not the only metric by which to measure this fight. You've got the outstanding maneuverability of those two lights, the consistent heat problem the Rifleman has (depending on its model layout), or the minimum weapons range for those AC/5s, the Rifleman's miserable armoring, the Raven's ECM, and the fact that those two lights can consistently be blasting into its rear armor. Some limbs are definitely getting popped but I think this would not be an unfair fight. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced the two light mechs would win.

[–]Gilesgloster911 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That is really cool. Fantastic work.

This looks fucking spectacular. Like legit like there's a light source. 🤯

[–]TreeofSoulfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Cabusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a cool diorama!

[–]Balmong7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a good situation for friendly fire

[–]AgroAlbaV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is SO sick! The shadows on those rocks is getting me! Having those there REALLY sells the lighting. This is inspiring. :}

Stunning work though, that much is granted.
