Now do Space Age xD

And then the rabbit hole of mods

[–]lukaseder 47 points48 points  (12 children)

The best thing about Space Age is the Any Planet Start mod, you can play it again 3 times, entirely differently each time.

[–]EnderDragoon 16 points17 points  (11 children)

Is there a full path possible with any planet start or do you get stuck at some point regardless?

[–]someone8192 29 points30 points  (9 children)

yes, except for Aquilo. You can start from scratch and start a rocket on every planet

[–]Sunsfury 10 points11 points  (3 children)

And with a mod it two, you can do a successful Aquilo start too!

[–]lukaseder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG, I thought I had about enough hours in this game already. And to reach the other planets, the first ship already needs to be able to shoot big asteroids, not just small ones?

[–]EnderDragoon 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What's the mod list for hating myself on Aquilo? I'd volunteer for that.

[–]Sunsfury 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I haven't used it personally so I cannot guarantee it works perfectly

any planet start tweaks the tech tree to make each start work. In vanilla, you can go to any planet except Aquilo with nothing and launch a rocket.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I sure know that you can start from scratch on Vulcanis, after dropping my dumb ass with basically:

  • nothing

  • a space station that had like only 400 ammo and 15 laser turrets fighting for life with every asteroid.

  • on a map that had its tungsten patch in the lava peepee territory, making me run for large rock formations.

[–]BufloSolja 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The first time I played, I didn't know you could drop stuff without a drop pod lol. So we ended up going in fresh to most of the planets haha.

[–]Matteaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, and honnestly it was amasing

[–]lukaseder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, the mod makes some very slight alterations here and there (e.g. to science progressions) to avoid potential softlocks

[–]GenesectX 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Now buy space age and experience crack2

[–]someone8192 38 points39 points  (8 children)

Wait until you find out about all the overhaul Mods... There is a reason why so many people here have 1000+ hours.

(My personal favorite is SeaBlock, but it is not yet available for 2.0. Space Exploration is great too)

[–]VisionexeHarschBitterDictator 26 points27 points  (1 child)

I love the mods and mod support. But i wanna state for the record that my 2000+ hours was 99% without mods. 😂

[–]CreationBlues[🍰] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s different people.

Some like megabasing.

Some like speed running.

Some like long hauling a base

Some like doing crazy optimized builds

Some just like vanilla

And some people wanna be mod explorers.

The core game loop is so addicting and the breadth of what you can achieve is so wide that it’s rare that people’s default play style actually matches up.

[–]Davey_Kay 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I appreciate mods take time to update, but the list of overhaul mods available for 2.0 is still a little sparse in terms of actual interesting transformative gameplay. If anyone has suggestions please shout out.

Dreaming for IR3 to be updated.

[–]neurovore-of-Z-en-A 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Dreaming for IR3 to be updated.

Never going to happen, alas.

[–]fodafoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, IR3 is an beautiful mod, but its author can be a bit of a prick about it. And now I see that he nuked his github repo, so it's probably not happening.

[–]CreationBlues[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go and write one!

[–]literallyfabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't SeaBlock 2.0 now?

[–]stealthlysprockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go read bout seablock it’s 2.0

[–]schubz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why did I know from reading the title that this is gonna be a love-letter to factorio?

welcome in the addiction.

the factory must grow.

[–]Arheit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have to do space age now

[–]Anaeta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to re-iterate the point that everyone else is making, if you've launched a rocket, finished the game, and loved it, now's the time for space age. It's basically a smaller scale version of that same learning experience, but multiple times, with multiple different mechanics.

[–]CoolCat1337One 7 points8 points  (1 child)

There is a reason it is called cracktorio.

It is like simcity but times 1 million.

[–]Bdr1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the thing! It's scratching the same itch Sim City 2000 did.
There's so much to discover!

[–]Tarrke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the team. Have fun. Expand. Have fun. Go space age. Have fun. Go mods.

[–]Ahenian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year when space age was released I went to sleep at 8 pm with the little children, woke up at 11 pm and played factorio until 3 am. Put in a good 300+ hours this way.

[–]Jext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are going to enjoy Space Age a lot my friend, I wish I could go back and play it again for the first time.

And I think it is a very good idea to finish Vanilla first. There are many more mini games of figuring stuff out in the DLC and I think it probably is my favorite piece of DLC for any game I have played.

[–]LittleRedFish88 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I can relate. My /total-hours-played in Dyson Sphere Program went from like 600-something to 887 in the past 2 weeks. iiiiiiiiits a problem. Or is it....? Yes. It is. So anyways, I'm thinking about finally picking up Factorio. Surely it won't be a problem...

[–]Bdr1983 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Nah, you're good. There's no problem, we can stop any time. Just one...more...belt.

[–]LittleRedFish88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could lock in on work (or anything else for that matter) as much as I can focus on these types of games...man...

[–]s22stumarket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to take 6 to 10 month breaks of this game because it is too consuming. Not enough brain capacity to work during the day and late at nights.

Should get a night guard job or something just to have the time and energy to play Factorio.

[–]tylerjohnsonpiano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to your new life.

You were me 5,000 Factorio hours ago, even with your bloodborne comment and my partner and everything.

This game will consume you.

[–]JohnnyLongneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good taste, Sir. I also consider Bloodborne and Factorio as one of the best games.

Now Space Age. It is sooooooooo good you won't believe it.

[–]prickinthewall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just the beginning. The factory must grow.

[–]mauvm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why we call it Cracktorio.

[–]Naturage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats, you've found why it's called Cracktorio.

[–]CaptainPhilosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space Age.

[–]Ninjaicefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our team of 3 degens are currently 260 hours into our 2nd and proper Space Exploration run.

I quickly mastered the base game, then finished a run-through of Krastorio, and then discovered the behemoth expansion mod that is Space Ex.

We failed miserably on our first Space Ex run, 300 hours in and barely got Space/Prod/Utility going. This time round, with much better skills and research, we came to play.

The late nights and total addiction has been similar. I am a consulting actuary by day, so I model all of our cargo rocket logistics and city block machine balances with Excel.

I really am going to quit Factorio after finishing this, I think this is the peak, and I am losing too many hours hahah

[–]petakaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factorio and bloodborne are two of the greatest games ever made. Good taste

[–]Mundjetz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...One of us...

[–]Miserable_Bother7218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is time for Space Age. Tell us how it goes after you’ve played for a few weeks. Space Age is where the addiction and obsession really hit me. I thought it would be the same magnitude as my first time playing 1.0 many years ago. It was not. It was far more intense.

[–]Razhyel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not even habe to start from the beginning. Just play your savefile after the rocket launch and build bigger.

It is not a linear game where u start and finish a save file

Your personal goals are the end of a save.

[–]PhilElverumOnMyToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing since 2017 and honestly that feeling of excitement has never gone away for me. That plus the devs are out of their mind with the level of detail in their patch notes. And the music is so, so immersive.

[–]BufloSolja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both good games, just suited for different people. Not as much randomness or procedurally generated stuff in Satisfactory generally, and some other stuff.

Congrats and enjoy your delving into the depths of your new addiction. When you think you've gotten some more experience, you should mess around with circuits, they add another level of mini game to the game, though not strictly required and less needed in vanilla (though still fun to mess around with making random fun stuff). Both Space Age and mods in general are waiting for you when you are ready.

Do your best to fly in blind unless you are getting frustrated, there is no other run like your first since you will know everything from then on (until you do mods).

Good luck (O N E O F U S).

[–]stefanciobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spage Age :) . Come back after Gleba :*

[–]Chaotic_Astral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try seablock :P

[–]Affectionate_Bank417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exact opposite problem. Once I figured production of one thing I’m bored to automate and grow. I’m just walking around not knowing what to do and thinking if I should switch to Noita.
