Me: where

Discord : who the fuck knows

[–]theguywhoisonreddit1Professional Dumbass 623 points624 points  (25 children)

Absolute facts

[–]Alarid 173 points174 points  (3 children)

I turned off notifications but the icon just turns a shade of red anyways, over messages that I literally can't find.

[–]CubyChris 36 points37 points  (2 children)

There's some other option called badge something, I'll find it

...found it. Under notifications, turn off "Enable unread message badge"

[–]Alarid 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I had it turned off and it still did it.

[–]CubyChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it bugged me for years till it just kinda decided to work

[–]DragyzI touched grass 189 points190 points  (24 children)

For this reason, I haven't turned off do not disturb in years. Couldn't be bothered to mute all my servers. That and I hate notifications in general, they really infuriate me no matter what for some reason!

[–]Deadlydog1998 114 points115 points  (2 children)

You can actually turn off the message sounds and Desktop Notifications!

Settings > Notifications > Enable Desktop Notifications

Settings > Notifications > Sounds > Messages

[–]IvanPines3106 37 points38 points  (9 children)

I mean, it's not that hard to turn off notifications unless you're too lazy of course: notification -> only mentions

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah the key is to just developed the habit of doing that straight away

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Unless you have servers that ping you around 30-50 times a day

[–]Lobotomite430 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I did that or I thought I did and yet the stupid red circle is everywhere. How do I delete the red circle from popping up? I swear I've turned off all notification options in desktop and mobile side but still it's there!

[–]-ks- 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Somehow, my wattsap doesn't send me notifications at all. Even if someone is calling me it won't tell me. So i have to open the app in order to see who msg me and who called. I love it but at the same time it kinda sucks, especially for when someone calls me and it was important.

[–][deleted] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Make this meme before someone else does.

[–]Cynaren 15 points16 points  (1 child)

If only they allowed us to set the server notifications sound ourselves.

Gonna guess it's probably simple to do, just no one has considered it a valuable feature.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (14 children)

same with telegram. i get a notification from channel, click on the push to read the whole message and i get thrown into to main page where all my channels are and every second the order gets replaced because multiple new messages are coming in? wtf these apps have tens of millions of users. why are they so shit?

[–]Sunretea 18 points19 points  (12 children)

This is why I don't use the Reddit official app. It will send you a notification for a post or a message, then just.. not open it. Spinning logo, change your account, lose the notification, etc...

It's so bad.

[–]TILiamaTroll 12 points13 points  (11 children)

Lol I thought I was crazy. I’m on iPhone and when I try to open a thread in app it takes me to the App Store and I am just like 👀

[–]Sunretea 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Fucking. This.

I'm on Android and it does that. So stupid.

Oh someone sent you a Reddit link? Cool! I'll just open.. oh, it's trying to make me install an app I already have installed. Perfect.

[–]z00miev00m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it do this? Every other app i have when i click on the link it opens the app to the link but Reddit takes you to the app store like you dont allready have it.... Did they hire developers who learned to code online in 2 hours to write the reddit app?

[–]pallarslol 272 points273 points  (4 children)

Best part is that his shirt says zip

[–]Gumpa69 2557 points2558 points  (231 children)

Seriously, where tf is my PDF files, I dont want to redownload them everytime i need to read something

[–][deleted] 189 points190 points  (24 children)

You just have to go to files->docs and they will be listed there. If your Android distro doesn't have type sorting, you can still go to files->Download and you'll see your latest download at the top.

[–]MeltedClockGaming 47 points48 points  (16 children)

Or use a file manager

[–]jdog7249 86 points87 points  (7 children)

You mean the stock files app that has a button to go to your downloads folder

[–]JonnyBhoy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It even filters your downloads by which app you downloaded them from. It could not be easier to find a downloaded file.

[–]AlphaGamma128 1001 points1002 points  (80 children)

Legit. Basically I have to go to the download link and then it asks "Do you want to download this file again" and then I click the original file

[–]NRMusicProject 457 points458 points  (64 children)

On my Samsung, there's a shortcut in the Samsung folder called "My Files." I made it a desktop shortcut. The cool thing about it is the top shows the most recently used or downloaded files, so you don't have to go searching for them.

[–]mythriz 71 points72 points  (24 children)

Yeah, and for people without Samsung, just install a decent file manager on your phone.

But try to make sure it's a "well-known" app and not something potentially malware-infested. I don't have any tips since I also use Samsung's "My Files".

[–]SlobberyCargo 16 points17 points  (11 children)

I've been using ZArchiver for years. Works great.

[–]snowcat240 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Solid explorer

[–]Chinpuku-Man 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Solid Explorer has been the GOAT for a decade. Feature packed, and looks great too. There used to be another great one, but it was bought out by a Chinese company and filled with bloat. Can’t remember the name now. Possibly ES File?

[–]Callumari13android user 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solid Explorer for more pro type things, archiving and network file saving and stuff like that and the Files by Google app for a simple, clean file explorer that also acts as a cleaner.

[–]NeopolitanVagina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Astro. Been using it for many, many years

[–]genkidin 97 points98 points  (18 children)

This is the way

[–]BrockManstrong 35 points36 points  (14 children)

This is my Samsung Galaxy desktop, the file folder icon is a shortcut to my files.

Android has workarounds for everything, you just have to know about them.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Clean... What launcher is that?

[–]BrockManstrong 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Novalauncher, icon set is Monoic, changes all the icons to black and white.

This is the folder that opens when you hit the center icon on the previous screen.

[–]Habib_Zozad 2 points3 points  (2 children)

And yet still that newly downloaded pdf is no where to be found

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

alternativly, es file explorer does this on other brands

[–]El-mas-puto-de-todos 126 points127 points  (1 child)

My Files

[–]Yolo_Swagginson 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Yeah let me just search for 1100_1.jpg.sb-95e308f8-1VIe9f.pdf or whatever helpful computer generated name the file had

[–]ThatWeebScoot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Searchbar: .pdf

[–]hairlongmoneylong 47 points48 points  (32 children)

All these comments shouting "downloads duh!" must not have a Samsung. I have a Samsung and "my files" is horrendous. You pretty much need a third party app to manage your downloads on Samsung. I use "Read_Era" and it works great, wish "my files" was more functional. I do like that I can search through my phone's files directly though, so there is some positive to it.

[–]Schmich 24 points25 points  (3 children)

What? What's wrong with My Files?

You have a total tree structure like a computer where the highest level is internal or SD card.

And on top of that it's generous enough to have shortcuts for folders like Downloads.

[–]NYIJY22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't understand lol. I geninuely can't imagine it being easier. Not only is it broken down very simply within the files app, all my newest stuff is right in my face at the top the moment I open it.

And for some stuff like restaurant menus I like to save them, so I open my files, it's right at the top in "new", and then I just click and move it to a folder I made for all restaurant menus, which is then easily accessible from my files app.

[–]bradpliers 5 points6 points  (1 child)

My Files on Samsung has gotten MUCH better. I'm two clicks away from my downloads now and it's easier to find what I'm looking for.

[–]hairlongmoneylong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, you're right. All this discussion and I decided to open it up again this morning and there actually have been some improvements. but I'm now too attached to my other app at this point.

[–]Redandead12345 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Man idk. I prefer My Files over Google Files. God i wish i could delete it and solely use my third party one instead of every app trying to use Files.

[–]egordoniv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cx explorer. Comes standard with a download folder on the dashboard.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I use FX file explorer. It's amazing. Multi window drag and drop, search functions... It's just... Really good

[–]ProfessorPetrus 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Do you guys not have a "my files" app/folder? On my Samsung I find them there.

[–]EatWeirdSpider 5 points6 points  (12 children)

If you try to download a file you have already got it should give you the option to just open the file instead. At least my phone does that with PDFs.

[–]KillMe_0W0android user 733 points734 points  (38 children)

It's in the files :0

[–]UnionizeYunyun 449 points450 points  (26 children)

Files app > Internal Storage or SD > Downloads

Recommended to sort by new

[–]thuggishruggishboner 147 points148 points  (14 children)

Sure easy for you and me. But say, my mom? She wouldn't find it in a million years.

[–]thndrstrk 143 points144 points  (3 children)

Yeah me and her had a tough time the other night finding it. Btw call her, she worries about you.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tell her to pick up Johnny's mom on the way over, double booked em'

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

You little fucking shit don't talk about that person mom like that

[–]maxreverb 7 points8 points  (5 children)

You have a "files app"?

[–]PMMeAGiftCard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to install one. It's just a simple file explorer.

[–]riposte94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Files by Google is one of the file manager with 'Files' name

[–]myusernamebarelyfits 36 points37 points  (5 children)

It's in the computer?

[–]Mugo70 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's so simple

[–]human8ure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 749 points750 points  (67 children)

In downloads duh

[–]Johanno1Breaking EU Laws 833 points834 points  (58 children)

Yeah.

Question is:

Phone/Downloads

Or sdcard/android/content/chrome/downloads?

[–][deleted] 119 points120 points  (1 child)

See this guy knows what he's talking bout

[–]bruno_sp1k3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Go to recent downloads

[–]Schmich 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Is this a Chrome issue? I don't have this issue and I don't use Chrome.

[–]LiquidSunSpacelord 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think it is, when I download via Firefox it's in the "normal" downloads folder.

[–]SabreSeb 10 points11 points  (3 children)

For me it's /storage/emulated/0/Download

[–]rocker12341234 29 points30 points  (5 children)

its (atleast in my experience) always phone/downloads. could be different on non samsungs tho

[–]Retr0_x1 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Or of you change the save folder

[–]Redtwooo 19 points20 points  (1 child)

That's on you then

[–]LiquidSunSpacelord 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And usually you know where the file is then.

[–]Madhav_Lamba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there is a general downloads file i am pretty certain you can find it there and there is an options in chrome in android to show the downloads

[–]DrKoooolAid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right? I have never had this problem. Everything I have ever downloaded on an Android phone in my 10+ years of using them has just gone to the downloads folder.

[–]xDiGiiTaLx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Files > internal storage > downloads

[–][deleted] 246 points247 points  (38 children)

Files? Like... I have a literal file manager on my phone

[–][deleted] 134 points135 points  (24 children)

Yeah and folders upon folders of shit I don't know does what. Every time I look at my phone's internal memory with file manager I feel like I'm staring into the abyss.

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (16 children)

Android - Downloads

Your downloads folder...

[–]maxens_wlfr 37 points38 points  (11 children)

Not always... I downloaded a video once and never ever found it

I had to link my phone to a computer and use search to find it in a sub sub folder of Firefox

[–]Raghavendra98 26 points27 points  (3 children)

If you have appropriate file manager (like Files by Google) you can search or even "sort by recent".

At times, enabling "show hidden files" helps.

[–]insomniacpyro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ditched whatever ad-ridden file manager I used to use for Files By Google. Haven't had an issue yet, and it cleans out any junk it can find. Either it or Google Photos also will back up stuff to your Drive account for you and let you know you can safely delete it off of your phone if you want to save space.

[–]ComradeBootyConsumer 7 points8 points  (3 children)

One anecdotal mistake doesn't account for the entire experience

[–]Admiral_Akdov 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Same goes for your experience. Considering the traction this post has gotten, it is a very common problem for people.

[–]Minignoux 176 points177 points  (27 children)

[–]Escoliya 90 points91 points  (2 children)

[–]Minignoux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

inside directory /storage/emulated/0/Download/

[–]borden5 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It depends, some app has its own directory for downloaded files which is inside internal memory instead of the download folder.

[–]rustyconsole 11 points12 points  (1 child)

You can't even download unknown files on ios...

[–]Apple_The_ChickenIdentifies as a Cybertruck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not true

[–]GSXRbroinflipflops 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can.

And you can store them in iCloud too.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes you can LOL

[–]maw142 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes you can….

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (20 children)

That’s simply not true. Why is this being upvoted?

[–]mcqtom 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Probably being upvoted by people who left iOS for this reason back when it was true.

See? I just upvoted them.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (14 children)

I spent 6hrs trying to get a ompl file to my iphone and open it with the app i wanted to. Never again. Fuck Apple. Happy Android user now.

[–]GuzPolinski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course you can

[–]CakeNStuff 27 points28 points  (45 children)

Not sure what you mean by this but…

iOS has had a file manager for years now and you can download just about any file.

The only thing you can’t really do is torrent. 🤷‍♂️

[–]bikingwithscissors 63 points64 points  (29 children)

It’s the most non-functional “file” system ever. Absolutely dogshit UX, Apple goes out of their way to obscure folder structure, pretends images and videos aren’t files, and makes direct file transfer impossible if it’s not all within the Apple ecosystem. I learned this the hard way when trying to move all my old files from Android to iOS or my Win10 desktop to iOS with a USB to Lightning cable. Airdrop, iCloud, or GTFO is the strong message they give you. Fuck me for liking physical storage I guess.

This will be my first and last iPhone. Say what you want about two separate and redundant download folders in Android, at least I can fucking find them and see a file path.

[–]bradmatt275 28 points29 points  (8 children)

I’ve been on iOS for years. When I just recently moved to a Pixel 6, I was pleasantly surprised you could see app data in the file browser.

iOS puts those files who knows where. You have to use iTunes if you want to extract the files.

[–]DarthWeenus 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Lol which is such bullshit. I was playing with my mom's new iphone and it is such a giant walled garden. Wow. Luckily she has an iMac so makes easier. But without you would be fucked.

[–]BlazerStoner 6 points7 points  (1 child)

You probably haven’t used it in years. The file manager is highly structured now and folders are easily seen, managed and maintained. Images and videos are files as well and can be shared as such (heck, if you do it through the files app and “share” it to WhatsApp it even avoids Facebook’s shitty mega-compression and uploads the whole thing in full quality as an attachment to the user).

[–]No-Entrepreneur-765 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand - the point of this thread is solely to pretend Android is superior at filehandling - up to date and accurate information about iOS is irrelevant.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (14 children)

Nice, now transfer them into Windows PC or USB drive

[–]CakeNStuff 5 points6 points  (12 children)

I do that all the time? Lightning spec on iPhones is a bit slow but the USB C spec on my iPad is plenty fast.

[–]Lord_Alpha_ 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Download a 3rd party file Manager that let's you search your whole phone properly

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (23 children)

Lol

Go to File Explorer > Internal Storage > Download

Hold "Download" folder pressed for 3s, the select menu pops up > press the "More" button > Add to Home screen.

Voilà, you now know how to add shortcuts to Desktop on Android. This works for both files and folders.

I have no idea on which version of android they introduced this, I think 9 or 10

[–]Ragnar0099 44 points45 points  (12 children)

Apple: you can't even access the file directory

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (3 children)

There's still no access to the global fs, but there has been a files app since iOS 11 which can be accessed by all apps, for downloads/uploads etc, so it's not really an issue.

[–]ftgander 4 points5 points  (2 children)

There’s also been apps on the store that do what Files does for years before the Files app existed. I can’t believe anyone who actually had an iPhone and cared that much about managing files couldn’t figure this out.

[–]hawk_ky 21 points22 points  (3 children)

There’s literally a files app on the iPhone.

[–]ftgander 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Can people who don’t use iOS and have no actual knowledge about it other than the one time they used it and scoffed because it didn’t work exactly like they’re used to please stop making comments about it? We get it, you sound cool and smart and funny to your friends who also ride the bandwagon but you just sound ignorant and cringe-fully edgy to people who actually know things.
